Uber autonomous car kills pedestrian in Arizona

A self-driving car from Uber Technologies Inc. hit and killed a woman in Tempe, Arizona, on Sunday evening, what is likely the first pedestrian fatality involving a driverless vehicle.

The woman was crossing the road when the Uber vehicle, operating in autonomous mode, struck her, according to the Tempe Police Department. She was transferred to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. “Uber is assisting and this is still an active investigation,” Liliana Duran, a spokeswoman from the Tempe police, said in an emailed statement.

Uber said on Monday that it was halting tests of all its autonomous vehicles in Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Toronto and the greater Phoenix area. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family,” a company spokeswoman said in a statement. “We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation of this incident.”

First sue uber for a million then the transportation dept. for 10 million then the manufacturer for 100 million this is what and only what these idiots understand. This is complete insanity and because some yuppies wanting to make millions on a device that is not human who cant think or prepare for rash changes in the real world. they can only follow gps and should that go out in a flash it knows not where it is, it doesn’t think in a no win situation does it hit a car, a cow, or a bus of children, it just does not know in the event that an accident is imminent. the transportation dept. is being paid off and should be dismantled of all executives and with loss of pension they will scrap this idiotic idea and it’s menace on the people of the united states.

Then again we could just remain in the dark safe ages. How much you want to bet the same argument was used when the first pedestrian was killed by an automobile with a driver. Ever notice how in America, it’s always litigation first no matter what the situation. Law suits can solve anything, right every wrong……………

Self driving cars are like drones on wheels. If Timothy McVeigh had self driving cars he could have taken out 100 buildings instead of just one. We need to ban them. They are a horrible idea.
