FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) — A University of Maine at Farmington student plans to pedal his unicycle from Vermont to Maine’s easternmost point after he graduates this month to raise money for cancer research.

The Bangor Daily News says 22-year-old Tristan Bates plans to set off from Lake Champlain’s edge in Burlington, Vt., and pedal through New Hampshire and then across Maine. He’ll have a support team along the way.

Bates, an aspiring mathematics teacher, plans to begin what he hopes will be a 10-day trek on May 23.

Bates’ father died of malignant melanoma in February. Bates wants to raise money for research into the disease.
