Unique fundraiser on tap for Saturday

FARMINGTON — Live bands, a scavenger hunt and barbecue highlight a fundraising event Saturday at Titcomb Mountain.

The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area invites the community to attend Synergy: A Festival of Philanthropy from 4 p.m. until midnight May 7. Activities include live bands, a bonfire, a free barbecue with ticket purchase, interactive art, a scavenger hunt where teams of four will compete for prizes and participate in geocaching and other interactive activities with United Way partners.

The grand prize includes $100 cash, $25 in groceries at Tranten’s, Troll Valley Disc golf certificates, four Maine Huts & Trails base memberships, a $25 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card and a Farmington House of Pizza gift certificate.

Synergy is the uniting of different elements to form something greater than the sum of its parts. This event is about people working together to strengthen the community. All money raised at Synergy will benefit the United Way and be reinvested in the community.

Bands include a Bar Harbor-based reggae band, Catcha Vibe; a classic rock jam band of University of Maine at Farmington students known as Nigel’s Thornberry; a rock band, The Running Gags; and Indie pop rock group, Grand Hotel.

A schedule of events includes Catcha Vibe (Reggae) and scavenger hunt from 4 to 7 p.m.; barbecue from 5 to 6:30 p.m., bonfire 7:30 p.m. to midnight, Nigel’s Thornberry from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m., Running Gags from 9 to 10:15 p.m., Grand Hotel from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.
