I'm glad someone is speaking in defense of this man. I read too many stories where I fear the news gets blurred and made to look very incorrect, often ruining the reputation of people. I am a big supporter of our officers and firefighters and I don't blame them either. But it seems more is missing to the story.
I'm the type to go out of my way to help others and I usually never get really upset at the lack of charity by others (I just cough it up to bad upbringing, personal problems or what not) but the last big snowstorm we had, I was stuck in it. I had to go to the store to get water and necessities (we have arsenic in our well water so I have to buy bottled water all the time). By the time I came out of the store, the parking lot was pretty deep and the shopping carts would barely go through the snow. I had one of my children with me but she was too young to push or pull the cart either. I also have medical problems which are obvious but no one offered to assist us. I had to drag the carts inch by inch to the car which was at the end of the line. I saw several tall, strong men pull up in pick-up trucks and none offered to assist when they saw us. The drive home was also very bad and I was fortunate not to be one of those cars that ended up on the side of the road. I would have NEVER gone out if I had realized how bad it was that day but we also needed water. I didn't have much of a choice. It does bother me that not one person could offer to help in the store lot.
Unless the woman is not having s..xual relations and just seeing these two men as friends, I find the advice inappropriate. A woman her age should have some sense of virtue by now. It is rather sad to see how society now values pleasing self as the "sole purpose in life." From what this woman says, it is sad she married young. It is possible her marriage was never valid from the beginning. I think what is worse, she doesn't seem like she got anything out of having children or a full family life. Dear Abby used to give moral advice but not any more. Now its just "hip" advice from some modern writer who takes over her position.
I don't see any difference if LePage doesn't want to attend, in comparison to when Obama blew off National Prayer Day and didn't attend events or honor it. Obama DID however go out of his way to have several Islamic events at the White House and Muslim feast days.

Same as Obama saying no to Christian prayer day
