Well, the current majority

Well, the current majority in Congress is Democratic and the President, Obama, is as well. So all his wishes for our country will be met probably. President Bush did a lousy job and we wanted change and now we have it. We are headed down the garden path to higher deficits, national health, more control over our lives. Where are the promised jobs? Sure there are the ones created through the stimulas, but they sound very much like the ones created during the depression through WPI projects and they are not going to bring any money into the country. The National Health situation is even worse and is going to drive small business out or else limit the number of hours employees work in order to avoid the fines proposed for not carrying health insurance.
Big Business such as Walmart already do that type of thing. Obama's plan seems a lot like that in MA and will fine people who do not take health care offered. So that's another way to stick to the masses of people who would be covered if they got decent enough wages to buy insurance. So here we are with what we asked for--CHANGE. Sometimes change isn't so good.
I don't approve of Bush's antics nor do I think Pres. Obama is doing any better. He is a better orator and charmer but he is just as elitist and fits right in with all the other lawyers and millionaires running our government. He doesn't identify with middle America. How much time has he spent at the White House since he was inaugurated? Now he & family are off to elite Martha's Vineyard and so is the Secret Service, and staff. Whose paying for them, hmmm? Could it be us? No, he is no better than most politicians who are just in the game for power and control of the American People and who want rid of the middle class.
Again, I ask where are the new jobs? Nowhere on the horizon because we have no manufacturing base left and no reason for it to return. Remember the British Brain Drain? I do becaus a relative of mine, an MD, left for Australia as he said that he wanted paid more than the mailman. A lot of the cost of private insurance and health care is because of government mandates and malpradtice suits that are ludicrous. When you go to your doctor's office note the number of people working there who are not medically necessary but are there to do all the paper work involved. Health care in America is a sinkhole for unemployed people as there are no real jobs in this country to fill. Maybe soon there will be an American Brain Drain to China.
Obama's father seems to have been a Marxist and it seems that the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. Remember the leaders in communist countries live well as do party member and the rest of the citizens do not. Well, again, we asked for change and now we sure have it; that is only small change will be in our pockets because we will pay for this change we asked for.

The outdoor policy in the

The outdoor policy in the state is getting a bit thick and reminds one that Maine is turning into a police state. One understands that second hand smoke is dangerous, but so are the fumes from motor vehicles and from barbecue grills. If the state is going this route then no drinking in front of children should be allowed as that will lead them down the path to alcoholism and drug abuse. The state needs the tax money from the use of tobacco to fund the myriad of programs it offers as Maine has lost it manufacturing base due to the draconian taxes. I am afraid this country is going down the path to Marxism just as China is loosening up. In college, I read "Brave New World," and "1984". The scenarios in those books are becoming frightenly real and seems like "Big Brother" is alive and getting bigger by the minute.
People want to live forever and be safe. Well, that is not the way things will ever work.
If humanity doesn't learn to stop overpopulating, over developing that may stave off some catastrophe for awhile, but there are natural disasters waiting to happen which we can't stop. Wars and terrorism we can't seem to stop. So, focus on tobacco and be self-righteous, take away freedom and not let people focus on real threats like this new swine flu virus or avian flu. Let them feel that the government, be it federal, state or local, is going to keep them safe so people don't focus on the fact that it is the ineffective leaders who have lost the jobs in the state for us and ruined the lives they havevbefore something that can't be controlled happens. No mention of AIDS much these days, I have noticed. That isn't a problem is it anymore??? What a sad state this has become; nothing more than a tourist destination like Cancun or a place for the rich retirees to live. Sorry I have to live here.
