addiction or treatment?

Did the earlier articles about this not state Maine led the nation in TREATMENT of prescription pills? There is a difference between ADDICTION rates and TREATMENT rates. You cannot quantify addiction rates, so they study treatment rates which may be skewed due to availability of treatment facilities.

What does CNN interrupting

What does CNN interrupting their program to air the story have to do with anything? That is what they do. They are a television network. Neither the Sunjournal nor the PPH have television programming to interrupt to air the story. Also, do you know where all those state, national, and world stories in the PPH come from? You can almost be assured that they were not written by anyone from the PPH. I highly doubt that the PPH sent a reporter to Detroit to report on the two people trapped in a building reduced to rubble.

The PPH, Kennebec Journal, and Morning Sentinel are all owned by the same company, Maine Today Media, Inc, so a story you see in the PPH regarding Waterville is also going to be in the Morning Sentinel and probably the Kennebec Journal. If you want Portland news and AP written state and national news, by all means subscribe to the PPH.

As far as the story on Sugarloaf goes, the article states it was written by the Associated Press AND Staff Reports, so they didn't even entirely write the article. I've seen the same article all over the internet from local and national news sources. You can't even guarantee who wrote it.

Armymom don't be a troll.

Armymom don't be a troll. Sunjournal does just fine. There was a reporter for CNN out skiing the mountain yesterday and he happened to be on Spillway East when it derailed. Sunjournal had the story up very early yesterday afternoon, but CNN reported first because they had a reporter already on the mountain, stranded on a chairlift, witnessing the rescue operation. No brainer here. Of course CNN is going to have the most up to date info.

Know your facts before you knock Sunjournal.

Law enforcement doesn't make

Law enforcement doesn't make the laws, they enforce the laws. Venting your frustrations on the officer will not change the fact that you were breaking the law.

These laws were brought about due to the astronomical cost of health care. The cost of treatment for someone who is ejected is going to be higher than someone who has seat belt abrasions. When someone is rushed to the hospital via ambulance, treated, and released, the bill is covered in 3 different ways.

1. Maine Care
2. Private Insurance i.e. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
3. YOU out of pocket

Unless you are rich and can afford the cost of health care on your own, someone else is going to pick up the tab. No one wants to pay for something that could have been prevented or minimized.

On a side note. It is not cheap to die either.

I find this bill to be a

I find this bill to be a foolish waste of taxpayer time and dollars. Yes there are two different socio-economic zones in Maine, but do you really think it's any different elsewhere in the nation?

I grew up in Maine and currently live in Southwest Virginia, and nothing resembles the progressive city life of Northern Virginia or the Hampton Roads. The people associate more with the government of Tennessee than they do with the government in Richmond, VA, but I haven't heard them pushing bills to separate.

Maine is Maine, whether you are in the Northern or Southern extremes. If you feel neglected by the government in Augusta, it is your responsibility to contact your representatives and congress(people) with your concerns and not back a wing-nut who would rather waste your time and money separating the state than actually doing something to benefit the people; such as creating business.
