Mic

case and point MIC. we are talking about Auburn not Lewiston you can not judge what one city does and compare it to another, apples and oranges my friend.  On a side note, if your teachers were helping you like you said, you would have a diploma not a G.E.D

Now I will say this when I was at LHS the SRO did nothing but break up fights and sit on his a$$, Vicki Wiegmun  was the saving grace for that school. But believe me when I tell you this i have seen both sides and Auburn SRO's actually care.

Close minded Mic.

Then you are obviously not spending much time at the school if you think that is all they do. Again the proof is in the pudding so to speak, look at the documented proof that the schools are better off, the crime rate rose dramatically the last time they cut the program. One SRO that I know takes high risk children and does stuff with them on his own dime; teaches them how to cook, clean and be responsible yound adults. now with that said as you know an SRO can not be at all places at all times but the SRO in most cases take the kids and help them notice the value of themselves which cuts down on the crime rates because they understand that there is more than one road they can choose in life. Besides MIC if you know of all these wrong doings in the schools what are you doing to help?

Seriously guys????

I have said it before and will say it again, Cutting the SRO's from the schools is a bad idea. They were cut from the 2004-2005 budget and the juvenile crime rate increased 38%. By cutting them you increase the amount of money the state has to spend on court fees and housing in the detention centers, which in turn puts the States overall budget even farther in debt; then the first thing the governer cuts for the 2012-2013 budget is education so our children loose twice.

Now in regrards to the person saying we need to pay more taxes, 4 years ago the city re evaluated my propery and everyone elses. Auburn claimed to cut the mill rate yet since the values were higher increased our property taxes an unbelievable amount. my taxes went from $1800 to just shy of $4000 per year. Where is all the money going?

SRO officers, are you joking?

By eliminating the SRO positions the city says it will be able to cut $25000 from the budget by making them cover vacations and overtime. Well that may look good on paper but they forget to take into consideration the increase in juvenile crime that happened the last time they cut the SRO position in 2004. A 38% increase in the juvenile crime rate. So what happens? More police assistance is required to cover this which alone will increase the cost in the budget; rather than one police officer being able to take care of this (at a lower crime rate) they will need multiple officers. Not too mention that all of the court and jail fees will be absorbed by the state making the state deficit bigger which will make the state cut more funding in the school systems for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. way to pass the buck A($$)ho!Now as far as AHO freezing his pay last year to help with the budget good for him, am I supposed to feel good about this? I have not had a raise in my position in 4 years; no cost of living increase...NOTHING and I am sure more people out there are in the same boat as me. why dont you lay off the city workers that stand around smoking while the laborers are digging the holes, we all see it 3 supervisors for every one laborer is what it looks like from my point of view.

Big surprises in store for tonights meeting.

Just wait, tonight they will vote on eliminating the SRO positions at the schools. for those of you who do not know what an SRO is, it is a School Resource Officer. The last time they disbanded the program in 2004-2005 juvenile crime rose 38% and then lowered again once the program was re instated.  The problem is that by eliminating this program it will cause a surge in court costs and jailing costs paid for by the state and not the city. By the state taking on the cost, the state budget will be affected and the first place they always cut is school systems.....That is perfect the Auburn schools systems we take a double hit and our kids will be more proned to crime and will have no books to read while sitting in jail!
