Retired fiscal conservative from out of state, living on a pension. -- Distrust of both political parties.
Pet peeves: Tort lawyers, the obscene class action suits and the excessive settlements in medical suits that are ruining our health care system. -- Socialism: The sheer number of social programs we have, their abuse and lack of oversight. We do not have enough working people in Maine to support these lavish programs, though they are compassionate. --- Legislative bodies that waste time in minutia: The State of Maine needs jobs. In order to attract businesses that would provide those jobs, our representatives need to address our tax imbalance in comparison to the rest of the country. We need to get our taxes down to one of the lowest in the country. This will bring in the jobs & stimulus that our economy needs. Instead they tie themselves up in sheer nonsense, wasting time that could be spent getting a handle on the hard issues.

Pot Plans
Weigh it on certified scales, photograph it, keep a sample for analysis, then for court purposes and burn the rest immediately. Why on earth did they attempt to hang on to so much pot in an unsecure facility? It just gave the entire judicial system a black eye. Most police agencies have a relatively small evidence room and there was no way that much pot could have been held securely, unless it was under constant guard.
Pot Plants
Boy, you almost have to laugh at this one, but it's a sorry lack of security. Why can't the plants be weighed, photographed, put a small sample into evidence and the rest be burned immediately? Either that or loaded into a trailer and taken to a secure State run site. The county can't be expected to build a vault to store pot.

Good stop State Police, but it's still perfectly legal to send up to $10,000 a day out of the country using Western Union or some such service. I know of a Spanish community where almost every day, the Western Union counter is the busiest place in town. A big loophole that needs to be closed.

I have no problem with immigrants who arrive legally, adopt the U.S. as their country, pledge loyalty to the U.S., WORK, pay taxes, learn our language and become law abiding citizens. I do have a major problem with those who arrive illegally, immediately go on public assistance, make crime their source of income, hate the United States, yet demand special rights and come merely to plunder the social services we, more than generously, provide.
Way to go Wal-Mart
Often I get upset when a few of the big box stores donate or favor radical, liberal left organizations and snubbing conservative groups. Battered women can need physical and mental support to help make them independant and bring them back into the work force. This is a good cause. Thank you Wal-Mart.
