Personal Learning Plans
The philosophy is nice, but do they realize what amount of time it takes to develop this plan? Then what about the realization on maintance of the plan? Is this going to be done by the teacher? When will teachers really teach? Take 25 students and create plans for each one. Sounds great, but the time involved, and time to adjust each must happen..what daily, weekly, monthly? Should one teacher be doing it or should it be evaluated and done by all the teachers at the same grade level? A lot of questions to be answered before beginning this process. Even Auburn with the computers (IPads) will have difficulty with individual plans. Subliminal learners ...aren't we all as we sit in front of the computer screens or tvs?

Not at all,if you chose that accept all the refuges and their families and their relatives and they keep having more and more children. Why should Lewiston be surprised about needing more classroom space, having to move seniors out of their comfort zone spaces, adding classrooms and bonding for large projects that the state won't fund.
Examine a map and you will see that where the expansions are like McMahon have a large immigrant population in public supported housing.
Driving the local population out of once all white areas in other areas. Catholic Charities of Maine brought these refugees here and dumped them on the city of Lewiston. That church ought to pay for their education costs, etc, oh I forgot that they probably haven't any money after all the sexual crimes committed by their priest and then having to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in settlements for each one.
It is an interesting contrast Pedophiles and Refugee support. Then the burden falls on the city. No one in Lewiston asked for all these people and did anyone ever look at the long term impact? I doubt it, they probably just said save these poor people... Damn they weren't even Christians. Shouldn't the Catholic Church save those people first?
Better
I think that they did better on Winter St this last storm, as it seems to me that they went up and then came back down and then entered into Pettingill Park... I hope this will continue and I hope that we were one of those tweeks.
Remember
Germany prior to the second world war, such patients were euthanized because they were such a drain on the state economy. Personally, I believe that if I were in a similar situation I would want to be put out of my misery and yes I know there are religious and moral issues, but carrying this forward and look at the cost and if the cost were zero then the idea is sound, practically, probably not however, a solution needs to be found and this is one way to do it.
Schools
are publically funded wings of the community. Each community seems to think that it and it alone has the best students, best physical plant, etc.
What is really needed is a customized learning situation for EACH student. Do we find what they're interested in from Kindergarten and assist them in learning what is needed? Do we realize that choices and changes are made as one gets older? The age of computers and electronic gadgets will allow us to do away with physical plants, teacher unions, and hire only a few select teachers/instructors who will man the keyboards 24/7 to assist with programs, questions, etc.
Without Large physical plants to maintain, the savings could be enormous, without teacher unions demanding more and more raises for the employees, health insurance for the many teachers again more savings.
You may ask where will all this savings go? Well, it is NOT going back to help with you taxes. It will help fund new and better technology for the students. We will always need a few employees to administer or repair any tech program, but the fewer the better.
Diplomas will become meaningless. What you can do on your own or show a potential employer is all that will be necessary. State laws and national laws regarding education will be obsolete. Programs that furnish money or demand that local systems follow a planned curricula like "No Child Left Behind" are foolish and overburden the existing staff.
Can you see it? Schools without buildings, schools with minimal number of teachers/instructors. Day or night students learn anyway don't they. What is missing? Well, I believe that the "Hands On" programs like electrical, plumbing,etc. referred to as the "Trades" can be conceptually taught, but must have a practicum or field experience of many hours to finalize course work.
Oh, think of the money we can save without school administrators. Only 2 or 3 will be needed for the whole electronic network... wow, I am pleased.
Finally, we must realize that not all students want to learn or care to have learning pushed at them. There will always be a percentage of people who would rather do something else...drop outs should be allowed from grade 6 forward through grade 12... you can't save everyone and we have to realize it. It is like saying that there is a GOD. Well, we can't make everyone believe that there is or that there is only one religion either.
Bet this will stur up some feathers just about everywhere.
