I'm a teacher at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford Maine. I am also a proud parent. I live with my wife and daughter in Jay, ME.
I find those comments personally offensive and ignorant. To say, without any facts or statistics, that there is more gang activity five minutes away from another town is absurd. I teach in that town and I am proud to teach there. Mudslinging will neither provide students with a better education nor save taxpayers money. This stereotyping only serves to incite tensions and not to solve problems and find solutions.
What money will be allocated in the already tight education budget to implement the program being proposed? If there is money of this, then why can't we find other monies to fund far more important mandates in education? Sounds like just another unfunded mandate from Augusta to me.
This is a fantastic day for the family and a great cause to support at the same time. I hope people will come and and check it out. It has something for everyone in the family.
