Instead of adding workshops and outreach, why don't our leaders do something to increase the availability of good paying jobs, and the preparation to fill them here in Maine. Re-establishment of vocational training and apprenticeship programs would be a decent start.
Like we don't have enough to worry about with the ridiculously high price of all fuels, now we have to worry about being cheated. $316,637.00 is a very nice extra profit. You can't tell me they didn't know after they "stuck" their tanks and compared sales figures in their daily accountings. They should be made to pay the money into something like a LIHEAP account for the elderly. Once we know who it is, the people can vote with their feet. Shameful!
then it should have been made in the USA. I'm sure the efficiency and quality could have been duplicated here. Another example of sending work overseas.
So much for "we will change out the meters at no cost to the ratepayers", If sales are down, then maybe they should look at reducing costs instead of raising rates again.
I have heard a lot of people express the same sentiment about several candidates and issues that they wished they had waited to vote. Maybe early voting is not such a great idea.
Well, we took a beating on this one. With the purchase price, the money the city has put into it, the lost tax revenue for the past three years, and the TIF return, we must have a million dollars in it, and are getting $450,000.00 for it. The only ones that made out in this deal were the Desgrossiers. Good for them.
I walk on Poland Rd frequently, and it doesn't seem that the job that they claim is actually being done. It is littered with paper, glass, nails, screws, etc all the time. Center St. is another area, especially the sidewalks, that needs attention. There are the same items plus construction debris and winter road sand still present after a four month opportunity to clean it.
There is no reasonable excuse for having a motorcycle that is loud enough to be heard accelerating a mile away in the middle of the night or one that can be the only vehicle heard among a group of vehicles waiting at a traffic light. The only reason for having loud exhaust is to bring attention to yourself and I don't mean in a safety conscious way. It's time to enforce these noise regulations so we can have some peace and quiet.
Some of the biggest violators of handicapped parking regulations are those that have been issued the placards or plates. How many times have we seen the handicapped driver pull into a space and sit in the car when their perfectly capable spouse, friend, child runs into the store for their business. Handicapped parking is a blessing for those who need it and follow the rules, but the abuse of the priviledge is rampant.
Looks like they did very well for themselves. More than twice the average salary in the area, a raise, and very little cost share for insurance. Go Auburn School Administrators.
Les Otten and his cronies walked away with millions while the common stock holders lost pretty nearly their entire investment when he mismanaged American Ski Company.
The water district is charging an additional $284.00 for the radio transmitter in addition to regular meter connection fees on any new service. So much for "no direct cost to ratepayers".
The information that has been shared that the Androscoggin Sheriff's Department does not allow ride-alongs for legitimate educational and informational purposes is incorrect.
Absolutely do not cut personnel from the police department, however, the use of overtime should be looked at for drastic reduction. For the sake of jobs in this tough economy, all personnel, union or not, should be willing to hold the line on salaries this year.
Otten did run American Skiing into the ground before he was shown the door. All of us Mainers who invested in his company, with the exclusion of bond holders, himself, and his buddies, lost 95% percent of our investment. Is this what we want from a leader?
Tron, How foolish are you to think that any sheriff, no matter who it is, or any police chief or fire chief for that matter, is personally supervising their staff in person 24/7. It is tragic for the family, and those involved that day that this man decided to end his life, whether in the jail or at any other time or place.
The question for the investigators though. is: Were there policies in place for the well being of those in the jail, and were those policies adhered to in the care of this man. No state police detective or attorney-general's investigator is going to risk their reputation in covering up wrongdoing in this incident or any other. It's too bad that you feel there is some sort of a conspiricy out there putting our citizens at risk. Let's wait and see what they have to report when they are done with their investigation before we point the finger of blame at those who perform their jobs every day in a very stressful atmosphere.
Chief Crowell is uncanny when it comes to locating and successfully applying for grant money, and he does not hesitate to praise his large and qualified staff for their contributions. Keep the grant money rolling in, chief.
All this time and resources would be much better spent on trying to solve the two year long contract crisis for the same 70 plus workers in the department. The commission needs to move forward on this very important issue.
Why would anyone insist on the ability to be able to discredit the organization they work for and represent? Why would they want to work for an organization that allows this type of activity? For me, it is not a free speech issue, it is a pride, integrity, and respect issue.
Maybe it's time that Sabattus looks at entering into a contract with the sheriff's office or state police for coverage. Poland has done this successfully for years. The difference may be that Poland is willing to pay for the added coverage.

$238.000 per unit
That kind of money for multiple units seems a ridiculous waste of money. Unsubsidized units, paid for without taxpayer money, are half that cost.
