People in our families, at work, and in our circle of friends. People in his life are gay, likely including some of the religious clergy in his life over the years. I went to Catholic school from kindergarten through graduate school. The percentage of gays in religious life is more than the average in society. Maybe even some of the people on your ship Pirate. This letter cracked me up. Might I suggest that you start by creating a list of entertainers who sympathize with these radicals. The free thinking must be stopped!! In the meantime, remain in your bunkers!!
All you can really see in the small version of your image is a burning flag. Love it. Dare you to leave it there for an extended period. Next we'll find you in Kennedy Park with your guitar singing protest songs.
More republican "facts". You should consider writing a novel. I have to applaud you for your new picture though. Even though it has an image of the president in the corner, it's very left wingy.
Here we go with the old Leviticus argument again. Hope you're not having a ham sandwich or lobsters and clams for lunch John. That would be an abomination.
So let me see if I understand, we should vote for someone as our representative to the United States Senate who has no political experience? I'm not so sure about that. Who did you have in mind? Maybe we just do a lottery.
So Jeff decides to write a letter on a whim without doing any research or having any apparent knowledge about the subject. Thanks buddy. Did you know that you can save money by switching to Geico? The majority of banks have paid back in full. GM has partially paid back. If the Treasury plays the market right, it could sell it's stock and recoup 100% of the GM bailout. BTW, who signed this crazy bill into law anyway. Oh, it was George wasn't it. Socialist!!!
I know you can do it! Just get a whole bunch of your folks together and take your socks and shoes off. Every person equals 20 votes if you include the toes.
You're absolutely right Bob. Don't they know they're Republicans. They're supposed to say no and not work with Democrats in a bipartisan fashion. Vote 'em out! God bless us every one.
I like the "go with my budget plan or I'll campaign against you" threat against the legislators in his own party. Perhaps a lead pipe would have been more effective. Maybe Jeff Gillooly is available for the open Communications Director position.

Same posters with the same perspectives every day. To me the comment section has become B-O-R-I-N-G. It's clear that the SJ prefers the current method. I'm sure it's a heck of a lot easier for Pattie. I'm not sure I can take much more of the same old posters. I've taken to reading and posting on Yahoo. I like the volume and varied points of view. I drove down Lisbon Street this weekend. It didn't look like a "fourth world" country. It actually looked pretty good. The one thing I noticed that didn't look good was the big, empty former Drapeau's location. I'm very happy to hear about this. Welcome John! And good luck!
I agree that there's an issue here, but we should be clear that these are contracts for services. The payment to these organizations is disclosed. They fact that legislators and other state officials also work for these non-profits is what is not well disclosed. The story is a bit misleading and sensationalist.
Well it’s a long and complicated story, but blaming it on Obama is like telling your children not to go out at night because of the Chupacabra. One could focus on one aspect of Bobbi’s letter, healthcare, and talk about a U.S. system that is out of control for a wide variety of reasons that were in effect long before Obama: health insurers constantly raising rates, care providers charging unrealistic rates as a result, uninsured Americans seeking care in ER’s, pharmaceutical companies charging exorbitant rates, lobbyists in D.C. pushing hard to save high profits. Now I love supporting local economies by eating out a local restaurants and such, but when one considers the national healthcare problem, one wonders about the possible positive outcome of taking greed and profits out of the mix. Know what I’m saying here? Starts with an S. Hmm?
If he's going to do a presser, he needs to write a speech and work on delivery. Get someone to help him out with this. The mayor is the mouthpiece of Lewiston. You have to admit, he's not good off the cuff. Like you've said about others, he doesn't have executive experience. Or public speaking. He needs to get good fast, if he's going to be effective. Soon he'll be on TV running meetings using Robert's rules. Is he ready? He doesn't want Lewiston to be laughed at anymore. Well neither do I. Lots of people were laughing this week. I didn't think it was funny. I thought it was weak and amateurish. Make sure he's ready for what lies ahead.
"MacDonald was less cordial about the win calling his opponents sleazy and threatening to exact revenge." Ugh. Just great. Gonna be a long and embarrasing couple of years.
It's neat that he was your coffee buddy Bob and that he can sometimes repeat some of your ideas, but I have a hard time believing that anybody who saw the debate would actually vote for him for mayor of Lewiston. He had a difficult time stringing words or thoughts together. In his all important opening statement: "uh...I wanna talk about Travis Soule!" Okay. That's nice. With regard to shops being opened downtown by recent immigrants, which Mr. Paradis discussed positively: "It's filthy.....it looks like a fourth world country!" Not the right guy to be the face and voice of Lewiston.
I asked you a couple of questions. You wrote that Ed's post was true. The reality is that neither you nor Ed really read or understood what he posted or where it was from. It was just another classic case of oppositional piling on. Unless you really are fond of the works of Nancy Spannaus and LaRouche.
I had to opportunity to see the comment before it was removed. Some quick research revealed that it came from the Lyndon LaRouche camp. I was dying laughing. You a big fan too Paul? What, Ed couldn't find anything good to copy and paste from the Ted Kaczynski website?
If that's true, you've raised a boat load of money. My life couldn't be happier. It's very mature for you to constantly disparage anything liberal including the mayor. Grinch!! Still laughing....
I watched the debate. I really don't think it matters where the polling takes place. I think the results are in already. Paradis by a landslide. My vote was already in the Paradis column, but hearing how Macdonald presented himself and hearing his penchant for the term "those people" only solidified my vote.
These dudes are out there day and night repairing the damage from a hurricane/tropical storm, while you surf from the comfort of your house in your sweatpants. Give me a break. My power was out for about 24 hours. Kudos to CMP for getting it back on. I live on the left side of the political spectrum, but I have to say that your negative shtick has grown more than tiresome. You and your sparring partner are both a couple of negative Nelly's. You deserve each other.
Lately gas on the Turnpike has been cheaper or equal to gas at my neighborhood Cumby's/Irving. The pike is usually much more expensive. It's down to $3.49ish in Bangor area. Can't help but fell like I'm being gouged.
The over/under on Perry leaving the race is Halloween. I'll take the under. Bruce Bartlett and many others think he's an "idiot". His philandering ways are about come back and bite him in the you know what. I'm afraid you'll have no choice but to vote for Romney, but I'm not sure he can win it. Looks like you folks may not have a winning horse in this race.
So they wants to make a video to show welfare fraud, but they end up with a video and story that shows that the system is working?!?! I can't believe they proceeded with the press conference. They made themselves look like idiots. This guy's about as transparent as they get. Maybe he should work on B movies instead.
So he wants to make a video to show welfare fraud, but shows a video that shows that the system is working?!?! I can't believe they proceeded with the press conference. They made themselves look like idiots.
Shocked! (sarcasm) Reminds me of the silver spoon Young Republicans when I was in college. All geeked up on their parents' opinions. Driving their BMW's. Not a single original thought in their heads.
we're going to call some of our people and if they say they don't like you, you'll have to go. Knuckleheads. Olsen wanted transparency?!?! What a rogue! Get rid of him!
Still not clean? The river has made incredible progress over the last 40 years thanks to the hard work of many (mostly left wingers). Goodall presents a bill this spring to reclassify the lower Androscoggin to B status, but business and Lepage throw fits and do all they can to put the squash on it. Believe me, business had no concern for the union workers.
"But the proposal has met stiff opposition from dam owners, paper companies and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. All argue the legislation would create stricter and more costly pollution and permitting standards.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Richmond, also has encountered push-back from the Department of Environmental Protection operating under a business-advocacy directive from Gov. Paul LePage."
Your frequent use of phrases like "Layabouts, welfare sucking work avoiders,..." is not encouraging to anyone. It's hurtful and makes people not want to listen to any message you may have. Of course we made no progress in the debate above, though I did hear you come around a bit on Palin. Good luck with Perry. It's a little late for him to be making decisions, but honestly at this point you don't have a winner in the race. Maybe he'll become president, then return to the democratic party where he began! He'd better leave out any "intelligent design" conversation though.
It makes me laugh every time. I'm not perseverating on "executive experience". I simply laid out their histories to show preparation for the POTUS. I happen to think Obama's experience prepared him perfectly for the office. Again ConLaw expert, very smart, State Senator, US Senator. An understanding of our constitution and federal experience. If you would honestly choose Palin over Obama because she was a Mayor of Wasilla and Governor of Alaska, then you have to look in the mirror and say "Bob, I am blind to anything other than my party regardless of the facts or truth." Go ahead and do it Bob. You'll feel better. Maybe have a good cry. Open your mind.
To take it a step further with you while I'm at it, some people are poor and less fortunate than you or I Bob. They're not milking the system to purposefully steal Bob's hard earned money. Show some compassion. Worry about people, not your tax return or wallet all the time. To constantly put down those less fortunate than you makes you come across as a miserly old Scrooge.
Seems to me I wrote down both of their work and educational histories. Care to add anything to Sarah's. I realize now that I did forget reality TV star and Fox News pundit.
I believe I said folks like you who support Palin are not credible.
Let's have some fun now shall we?
Come on fellas. Would you really vote for Sarah Palin for president or even vice president. Really? Given our obvious differences in philosophy, we will likely also have differing HR strategies, but let’s compare:
Barack:
Director, Developing Communities Project
President of the Harvard Law Review
Magna cum laude from Harvard Law School
Author
Professor of Constitutional Law at University of Chicago Law School for 12 years
Civil rights lawyer for 11 years
Board Member of several community service-oriented non-profits
Illinois State Senator
U.S. Senator
Sarah Palin’s
Eventual BA in communications from University of Idaho after attending Matanuska-Susitna College, North Idaho College, Hawaii Pacific University and University of Hawaii
Miss Wasilla
Third place in Miss Alaska
Sassy Sports Reporter at KTUU
Wasilla City Council
Mayor of Wasilla
Governor of Alaska
I’ll take the Harvard JD, Con Law expert, practicing attorney, State Senator, US Senator (fairly standard presidential pedigree) any day of the week over BA, sports reporting and frontier politics.
Just don't give me this Sarah Palinesque "lamestream media" mumbo jumbo. LePage, Palin, Bachmann, et al say moronic things, then claim persecution when it gets reported. You can't shine a sneaker.
All reporters have to do to make him look bad is quote him. He takes a rare opportunity to speak and says he doesn't want to "piss off" lawmakers. He's the most eloquent speaker since Larry the Cable Guy. Of course his staff looked nervous. Who can blame Demeritt for resigning. Who in their right mind would want to be this guy's communications director?
This "liberal media" crying you constantly do is way off base. All that is happening is news outlets in Maine and across the country are printing quotes and showing video of what our Governor is saying and doing. No spin or slant needed.
You must travel in a tight Tea Party circle. You're feeling pretty good about how things are going are you? Proud of your Governor? You think he's a good leader and representative of the State of Maine? I thought elephants had good memories. Apparently you can't remember the last three months.
To me the quote is the most concerning thing about this whole affair. I'm angered about the removal of the mural, but it would seem to me to be Politics 101/Civility 101 to never refer to any of the citizens you are governing as idiots. After a few months of making multiple embarassing comments, he does not appear to have learned that he needs to filter and use big boy words. Instead he is weekly fodder for local and national news outlets, now including the New York Times. It amazes me that there are still people out there supporting him as Governor.
Why? Why? Why? We have the new Palin. This guy just shouldn't speak. Just smile and wave Paul. Just smile and wave. Or better yet, read up on Nixon and use some of his words. "I shall resign effective at noon tomorrow."
They knew the repeal effort was futile. I love wasting congressional resources for acts of symbolism. Next up on the Republican agenda, rolling large boulders uphill.
If you get elected to the highest office in the state, then you should present yourself with tact and professionalism. You represent the entire state. After the run on CNN and Fox, the country now knows we voted in an inarticulate clown. If I were behind either one of you Clem, I'd be inclined to kick it.
Please with the Old Testament civil laws. Follow those and you'll be sacrificing goats and whole wheat on Bartlett Street. As far as the new testament, more interpretation on your part. You're freakin' me out dude. I've never really seen you thump before, or maybe I just missed those posts. You're really showing your below the Mason/Dixon Line colors now. Most of us are Catholic around here. Try to blend in.
Say what now??? I think you're doing more interpreting than reading and understanding. People who do that give me the willies. I didn't see you support your claim anywhere in your response. The death penalty is not the answer.
He should have that lady that does the Mardens commercials for him do his public speaking. That would be a great improvement. "We're ain't goin' to no NAACP event deah!' Ain't that cunnin'!"
Tron, Boehner made his appropriate remarks earlier today. I consider myself a liberal. I believe the time has come for us to treat each other with respect. The time has come for us to act as one nation. Use this opportunity to act responsibly and with civility.
I like your second paragraph a great deal Publikwerks. Those are words of wisdom for this website, for the country, and for the world. I think you should just keep posting that paragraph again and again. Peace.
People aren't flocking to Maine for it's welfare programs. He knows it. But he also knows that the bunker dwellers will stand and applaud if he makes such statements. Also, I don't even own a bippy, otherwise I'd take your bet.
If the SJ loses more than a dozen subscriptions over this, I'll give you a dollar. You a big fan of news about the Old Port and West End? Enjoy the Press Herald. I'll miss you.
To refer to Veritas as ignorant shows a lack of intelligence and common sense on your part. I'm no relation or friend to Veritas, but the guy presents intelligent arguments often in a witty fashion. I appreciate his presence here. I hope he uses the Veritas signature in the future at the end of his posts. Apparently what you seek is unilateral opinion. Best for you to stick to those news outlets that only present the conservative opinion. You'd be much more happy there.
I am so tired of conservatives constantly wringing their hands and spouting off about taxes. My uncle, Mr. Stone, and all the other conservatives in this country. The Empire paid taxes to Caeser and it hasn't stopped since. I don't love paying taxes and I'm not happy about the Social Security situation, but for the love of Pete, try to think of something else. My 19 year old daughter's boyfriend grew up among conservatives and the poor kid wants to have conversations with me about his concerns regarding capital gains taxes. Dude! Play a video game or something! And the rest of you, close your eyes and go to your happy place. For me, that would be a beach environment. For you conservative types, it might be an apocalyptic bunker. Either way, try to think of something positive for a minute!
Your image speaks more loudly than your tired and disdainful commentary. You and I see the world differently. Perhaps a nice red state south of The Line would suit you.
I lived in Massachusetts for a decade. Take a drive down 128 or take the Mass Pike into Boston during morning rush hour. The housing market is through the roof. You have to pay 3 or 4 times what a house would be worth in Maine. Now I live here. My commute on the Pike is peaceful and easy going. I bought an affordable home for my family. Nice people all around. And like the parrot said, the summers are great. Come down off that ledge Armymom. Always look on the bright side of life (whistling).......
Nice move. Seems to be more of a reasonable course of action to allow public comment and discussion versus the shenanigans from last week. Kudos to Gleason.
What troubles me the most about this story and subsequent comments are "hands on weapons" and "fingers on triggers". I'm getting a vision of Theriault or Job Public ending up in prison for assault or worse. Violence is not the answer people. Put those guns back in their safes.
Shouldn't the State have voted on this? Imagine the increase in drunk driving. Imagine the riff raff hanging around the facility. They'll probably hire illegal immigrants. This does not fit Maine's image. Maybe a nice root beer facility would have been better. ;)
I'm not gonna let you be. Mini-Vegas? Please. We are talking about one business in Oxford. Nobody sees this as a solution to Maine's economic woes. It's one business in Oxford. Some jobs for local people. A little growth. Say it. "It's gonna be OK." Go on. Say it. "It's gonna be OK."
I'm assuming you have insurance Lenny, so you'll likely financially survive your romp through the system. Have a look at the costs for your multiple interactions with health care providers. Tell me if everything looks in order and reasonable.
That reminds me of the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say.
Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…
I'm not sure exactly what people think is going to happen if they put in a casino with a restaurant and entertainment. I think some people have images of the old west with people coming out of swinging half doors shooting guns in the air. The scare tactics are just that. I've been to casinos in different cities. I see civilized people spending recreational dollars on entertainment, food, and beverages. If we were talking about a community putting all their hopes in the gambling industry like Atlantic City or Vegas, then I'd be opposed too. But we are talking about putting one attractive facility in Oxford. I think Maine's image will survive.
The argument that Mainers voted down casinos in the past, therefore, there should never be any further discussion on the matter holds no water. Mainers voted down different initiatives in different economic times. This one passed. Go ahead and recount. Exercise in futility. Maybe CasinosNO can find other ways to impose their moral values on me. Maybe they can take a shot at prohibition again.
Kooky letter Bill. I'm confident that the good people of Maine will not vote this guy in come November. This Marden's manager/city council meeting facilitator is not a good candidate for the Blaine House.
I was dumbfounded when he though it was a good idea to write the first letter. Now a second letter?!?! Bert, nobody cares what you think about the NFL. I'm gonna watch 2-3 games tomorrow and love it. Now I have to get back to watching college ball.
It's a good thing the FD didn't show up. If they did, we would have had to deal with the Right exploding all over this comment section about having to foot the bill with their tax dollars.
Not appropriate Tron. Nobody cares what you have to say. Or Bob for that matter. Why you don't you two leave this site and take your issues up to the hills like the Hatfields and the McCoys.
I just prefer queen's concept of continued efforts to reduce our dependence, versus your and Clem's apparent opinions to simply throw up your hands and say "it's too tough to live without oil, there's nothing we can do".
with the "drug dealers, prostitutes and petty crooks" routine. You know who goes to Uncassville? Memeres and peperes from Lewiston on a bus that leaves from the Park and Ride to spend their money and have some fun.
This is easily the funniest LTE I've read in a long time. It was like spending time with your old cranky uncle. "I remember when bread cost a nickel! I used to walk to school, up hill both ways!" OK Uncle Leo, time for your nap. Now that I think about it, it wasn't that funny. It's actually kind of sad. Especially the racist parts.
Roger, please see my photo. Tin foil hats do work wonders to prevent aliens from reading your thoughts. Conservatives use this reference often, but if Rush ever offers you a cup of kool-aid in a plastic cup, I wouldn't drink it.
You get your numbers right. You know as well as I do that the the less than 2% figure is not an accurate representation of the current g/l population in the U.S. It's just a convenient survey that you choose to use.
I'm voting soon Mark. What about the deal with Casella regarding the Lewiston Landfill? Where did you actually stand there? Any information would help me on Tuesday.
Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I'm The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you." No on 1.
Madore said something. Who gives a flying hoot? “Maine Grassroots Coalition, has spent about $8,300 on the campaign so far, according to state campaign finance reports. About $3,200 has gone toward paying himself and his wife, Susan, for their efforts.” Hilarious. What a martyr. He should grow a little nose-widthed mustache.
The ratings issue is pure math. There's one righty network. The rest of us can choose from a wide variety of other outlets, spreading out the ratings. If there were two networks, Fox would be in last place.
I don't know if it will be taught in schools, but i do know that my kids got the full lecture on the subject by the Bishop at mass this weekend. I don't believe they absorbed the Bishop's message, but they know now that there is such a thing as homosexual marriage. Either way, I'm ok with it. The overall issue is a part of society now. Whether it's marriage or just the fact that a classmate might have same sex parents, it's part of life. Time to accept it and deal with it people. I do know that the more I hear my church speak out on this issue, the more I want to go elsewhere.
Seriously mom. Are you a blind follower? Are you saying it's not OK to be a Catholic and ask questions? Have an original thought mom. You might like it.
I think it would be great if there was a local meeting, so I could watch misinformed righties blowing forehead veins and frothing at the mouth in person instead of just on YouTube. Very amusing stuff.
Gil, your icon and Coulter quote freak me out. Do you really want to associate yourself with her. She's the Queen of Nutjobia and your one of her loyal subjects.

Mark shoots...
.......and misses. Was this explanation of our economic situation from the elementary school edition of the Young Republicans manual?
Her dream job is to be the next Ann Coulter??
What a lofty goal.
You wrote higher up in this thread that
you don't live in Maine anymore. Move on. We don't need any more anger here. There's plenty. You don't need it either. It will only do you harm.
This is a legitimate critique
Angry much?
I'm sure these kinds of comments are great for your business.
Paradis camp
Paradis camp. If your doorbell rings tomorrow and there's a lunch bag on you doorstep on fire, DO NOT STOMP ON IT!
Just heard on radio, while driving to work
"MacDonald was less cordial about the win calling his opponents sleazy and threatening to exact revenge." Ugh. Just great. Gonna be a long and embarrasing couple of years.
I'll say it Pirate
VOTE AGAINST BOB MCDONALD!!!
Oh yeah, well....!!
...wait a minute, I sort of agree with you Mr. Reed! Except maybe the last sentence. Well done sir.
I partially agree with Tina
Toughen up.
I thought you were a pirate.
Assumptions?
I asked you a couple of questions. You wrote that Ed's post was true. The reality is that neither you nor Ed really read or understood what he posted or where it was from. It was just another classic case of oppositional piling on. Unless you really are fond of the works of Nancy Spannaus and LaRouche.
Put it back up Ed!
But be sure to reference the Lyndon LaRouche camp. I had no idea you were a fan. I thought it was hilarious!!
You in the cult parrot?
I had to opportunity to see the comment before it was removed. Some quick research revealed that it came from the Lyndon LaRouche camp. I was dying laughing. You a big fan too Paul? What, Ed couldn't find anything good to copy and paste from the Ted Kaczynski website?
Let's vote in the best candidate,
Mr. Paradis, then deal with things as they come.
Oh, I see.
My mistake. You were just passing information along. I'll consider that my gift from you.
Laughing
If that's true, you've raised a boat load of money. My life couldn't be happier. It's very mature for you to constantly disparage anything liberal including the mayor. Grinch!! Still laughing....
Scrooge checks in!
Merry Christmas to you Ebenezer!
???
???????
???
This has something to do with the Mayor's office because............????
Won't Matter
I watched the debate. I really don't think it matters where the polling takes place. I think the results are in already. Paradis by a landslide. My vote was already in the Paradis column, but hearing how Macdonald presented himself and hearing his penchant for the term "those people" only solidified my vote.
Couldn't agree more!
This is a no brainer. Let's just get this over with and get Paradis in office.
Just living in the now!
Catch up.
That's what I'm talking about!!
Way to go people! We're a blue state! I think the red experiment is over.
Settle down Beavis
I wanted the casino too, but unfortunately it was a statewide referendum. It was never just our say.
Fantastic Computer Chair Quarterbacking
These dudes are out there day and night repairing the damage from a hurricane/tropical storm, while you surf from the comfort of your house in your sweatpants. Give me a break. My power was out for about 24 hours. Kudos to CMP for getting it back on. I live on the left side of the political spectrum, but I have to say that your negative shtick has grown more than tiresome. You and your sparring partner are both a couple of negative Nelly's. You deserve each other.
Will Marden's
Will Marden's be open tomorrow?
Whaaaaat?!?!
They should have leaned in and whispered "we don't bargain".
Turnpike
Lately gas on the Turnpike has been cheaper or equal to gas at my neighborhood Cumby's/Irving. The pike is usually much more expensive. It's down to $3.49ish in Bangor area. Can't help but fell like I'm being gouged.
Perry
The over/under on Perry leaving the race is Halloween. I'll take the under. Bruce Bartlett and many others think he's an "idiot". His philandering ways are about come back and bite him in the you know what. I'm afraid you'll have no choice but to vote for Romney, but I'm not sure he can win it. Looks like you folks may not have a winning horse in this race.
"A young girl had been
"A young girl had been walking two pit bulls with her mother nearby, Stringer said."
What is the matter with people?? Only expert dog trainers should be allowed to own pit bulls. Even then I question it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Epic fail on O'Keefe's part
So they wants to make a video to show welfare fraud, but they end up with a video and story that shows that the system is working?!?! I can't believe they proceeded with the press conference. They made themselves look like idiots. This guy's about as transparent as they get. Maybe he should work on B movies instead.
Epic fail on O'Keefe's part
So he wants to make a video to show welfare fraud, but shows a video that shows that the system is working?!?! I can't believe they proceeded with the press conference. They made themselves look like idiots.
I am shocked by this!
Shocked! (sarcasm) Reminds me of the silver spoon Young Republicans when I was in college. All geeked up on their parents' opinions. Driving their BMW's. Not a single original thought in their heads.
So
we're going to call some of our people and if they say they don't like you, you'll have to go. Knuckleheads. Olsen wanted transparency?!?! What a rogue! Get rid of him!
Hmmm?
Which one? Baseless personal attack? Seems a bit sensitive. I thought there was enough rationale for the comment.
He doesn't recall

Bob = Spin King
(SunJournal, Mistler 4/11)
"Layabouts, welfare sucking work avoiders"
Your frequent use of phrases like "Layabouts, welfare sucking work avoiders,..." is not encouraging to anyone. It's hurtful and makes people not want to listen to any message you may have. Of course we made no progress in the debate above, though I did hear you come around a bit on Palin. Good luck with Perry. It's a little late for him to be making decisions, but honestly at this point you don't have a winner in the race. Maybe he'll become president, then return to the democratic party where he began! He'd better leave out any "intelligent design" conversation though.
Say executive experience again.
Any inaccuracies?
Seems to me I wrote down both of their work and educational histories. Care to add anything to Sarah's. I realize now that I did forget reality TV star and Fox News pundit.
(laughing)
(laughing)
You're not credible
I believe I said folks like you who support Palin are not credible.
Let's have some fun now shall we?
Come on fellas. Would you really vote for Sarah Palin for president or even vice president. Really? Given our obvious differences in philosophy, we will likely also have differing HR strategies, but let’s compare:
Barack:
Director, Developing Communities Project
President of the Harvard Law Review
Magna cum laude from Harvard Law School
Author
Professor of Constitutional Law at University of Chicago Law School for 12 years
Civil rights lawyer for 11 years
Board Member of several community service-oriented non-profits
Illinois State Senator
U.S. Senator
Sarah Palin’s
Eventual BA in communications from University of Idaho after attending Matanuska-Susitna College, North Idaho College, Hawaii Pacific University and University of Hawaii
Miss Wasilla
Third place in Miss Alaska
Sassy Sports Reporter at KTUU
Wasilla City Council
Mayor of Wasilla
Governor of Alaska
I’ll take the Harvard JD, Con Law expert, practicing attorney, State Senator, US Senator (fairly standard presidential pedigree) any day of the week over BA, sports reporting and frontier politics.
(laughing)
Loopy
Whoever thinks Palin is more qualified than Barack loses all credibility with me. Too much of the righty kool-aid Bob.
Palinesque
Just don't give me this Sarah Palinesque "lamestream media" mumbo jumbo. LePage, Palin, Bachmann, et al say moronic things, then claim persecution when it gets reported. You can't shine a sneaker.
Sorry Bob
All reporters have to do to make him look bad is quote him. He takes a rare opportunity to speak and says he doesn't want to "piss off" lawmakers. He's the most eloquent speaker since Larry the Cable Guy. Of course his staff looked nervous. Who can blame Demeritt for resigning. Who in their right mind would want to be this guy's communications director?
Thank you negative Nelly
Sour grapes. Our family has already filled our new 32 gallon recycling bin. We're thinking of going bigger.
Lighten up Francis
Thanks for the humor LaFlamme.
Hilarious
And the winner of this year's Frederick Wintle Award for Erratic Behavior by a Politician is........Mike Farrell! Congrats Mike!!
Really???
When I moved back to Maine from Massachusetts, registering to vote wasn't even in the top 500 on my things to do list.
Poor guy.
All angry and hateful. Must be rough to live that way.
Lewiston's gain is Gorham's loss.
Lewiston's gain is Gorham's loss.
Get a life Ron.
Get a life Ron. It's an interesting story. Congrats to all who graduated or will graduate this year.
Holy flying leap Batman
Holy flying leap Brian. How'd you get there from this story?
Liberal media
This "liberal media" crying you constantly do is way off base. All that is happening is news outlets in Maine and across the country are printing quotes and showing video of what our Governor is saying and doing. No spin or slant needed.
Are you serious Mark?
You must travel in a tight Tea Party circle. You're feeling pretty good about how things are going are you? Proud of your Governor? You think he's a good leader and representative of the State of Maine? I thought elephants had good memories. Apparently you can't remember the last three months.
Most concerning
To me the quote is the most concerning thing about this whole affair. I'm angered about the removal of the mural, but it would seem to me to be Politics 101/Civility 101 to never refer to any of the citizens you are governing as idiots. After a few months of making multiple embarassing comments, he does not appear to have learned that he needs to filter and use big boy words. Instead he is weekly fodder for local and national news outlets, now including the New York Times. It amazes me that there are still people out there supporting him as Governor.
I hope you don't
I hope you don't bet on horses.
A for effort
with this spin attempt. Fail.
The Tea Party Speaks
Is this a serious letter? "Trim the fat off teacher salaries...." Ugh.
Way ahead of you
This has been my picture since I started on here. My hat works great!
Oh no...
Why? Why? Why? We have the new Palin. This guy just shouldn't speak. Just smile and wave Paul. Just smile and wave. Or better yet, read up on Nixon and use some of his words. "I shall resign effective at noon tomorrow."
Slot machines?
No thanks. Guess I'll drive to Oxford.
Ooops
Once again, reason overtakes his verbal impulse control disorder.
whoa
I already don't see my record on my account. I enjoyed seeing my 750 some-odd disagrees!

Professionalism
If you get elected to the highest office in the state, then you should present yourself with tact and professionalism. You represent the entire state. After the run on CNN and Fox, the country now knows we voted in an inarticulate clown. If I were behind either one of you Clem, I'd be inclined to kick it.
Please
Please with the Old Testament civil laws. Follow those and you'll be sacrificing goats and whole wheat on Bartlett Street. As far as the new testament, more interpretation on your part. You're freakin' me out dude. I've never really seen you thump before, or maybe I just missed those posts. You're really showing your below the Mason/Dixon Line colors now. Most of us are Catholic around here. Try to blend in.
"God has instructed us to use capital punishment"
Say what now??? I think you're doing more interpreting than reading and understanding. People who do that give me the willies. I didn't see you support your claim anywhere in your response. The death penalty is not the answer.
"Fat Jesus"
That's good stuff! I'm dying over here!
Mardens Lady
He should have that lady that does the Mardens commercials for him do his public speaking. That would be a great improvement. "We're ain't goin' to no NAACP event deah!' Ain't that cunnin'!"
Hilarious.
I'd rather listen to a three hour speech my Mayor Menino, than listen to LePage for five minutes.
I couldn't be more proud.
I couldn't be more proud. Jackwagon. Please, please don't make the national news.
I couldn't be more proud.

Nothing that sunglasses and a fake beard couldn't fix. We need answers! We want the truth!!! FREE THE WATERVILLE TWO!!
Wait a minute
I'm gonna need pictures and preferably video of these two pushing this thing. We need LaFlamme to get up there pronto to investigate further.
Enough
Tron, Boehner made his appropriate remarks earlier today. I consider myself a liberal. I believe the time has come for us to treat each other with respect. The time has come for us to act as one nation. Use this opportunity to act responsibly and with civility.
Agree
I like your second paragraph a great deal Publikwerks. Those are words of wisdom for this website, for the country, and for the world. I think you should just keep posting that paragraph again and again. Peace.
Do you
Do you have hundreds of composition books at your place with all of your "thoughts" written down? You've lost it brother. Get help.
Not cool
This comment by fixit is not borderline Scott. It's completely inappropriate and should be removed. Fixit should be out of here.
People aren't
People aren't flocking to Maine for it's welfare programs. He knows it. But he also knows that the bunker dwellers will stand and applaud if he makes such statements. Also, I don't even own a bippy, otherwise I'd take your bet.

Goodbye Ed
Goodbye forever Ed. I don't know how we'll manage without you.
You deserve a medal
Gil, If I ever meet you, I'll give you a fifty cent piece and a medal fashioned out of tin foil for using the word myrmidon!
Bet you a dollar
If the SJ loses more than a dozen subscriptions over this, I'll give you a dollar. You a big fan of news about the Old Port and West End? Enjoy the Press Herald. I'll miss you.
Lack of common sense
To refer to Veritas as ignorant shows a lack of intelligence and common sense on your part. I'm no relation or friend to Veritas, but the guy presents intelligent arguments often in a witty fashion. I appreciate his presence here. I hope he uses the Veritas signature in the future at the end of his posts. Apparently what you seek is unilateral opinion. Best for you to stick to those news outlets that only present the conservative opinion. You'd be much more happy there.
Well
...um...Ok then....I was right. BTW, you lost the war. Get over it.

Dennis Bailey?! I, for one, am shocked! Shocked!!
Now you're talking
Now you're talking frosty! Your blood pressure just went down 10 points!
Go to your happy place
Image
Your image speaks more loudly than your tired and disdainful commentary. You and I see the world differently. Perhaps a nice red state south of The Line would suit you.
Vegetarian?
I'll assume so.
I can't stop laughing.
That race would go well.

Everything is relative
I lived in Massachusetts for a decade. Take a drive down 128 or take the Mass Pike into Boston during morning rush hour. The housing market is through the roof. You have to pay 3 or 4 times what a house would be worth in Maine. Now I live here. My commute on the Pike is peaceful and easy going. I bought an affordable home for my family. Nice people all around. And like the parrot said, the summers are great. Come down off that ledge Armymom. Always look on the bright side of life (whistling).......
Funny
Funny comment. Thumbs up.
Do you remember
when bread cost a nickel cranky? Do you often harken back to those days and remind everyone around you?
Yes

Rolling Large Boulders
The rolling of large boulders uphill has commenced.
Video footage?
Did anyone see any video footage from Washington today? Were the Republicans crossing their arms and stomping their feet?
Wow!
Nice move. Seems to be more of a reasonable course of action to allow public comment and discussion versus the shenanigans from last week. Kudos to Gleason.
Headline?
I'm not sure the headline is appropriate. It could also read: "Some Mainers panic-stricken as new GOP-led Legislature meets."
oops
Weird letter, I should say.
Uhhhhh
Harry! Harry! Harry! Should auld acquaintance be forgot. Wierd letter Harry.
Opportunity
My fear is that some folk who like to pack are looking for an opportunity to "defend" themselves.
arghhh
Was your hand on your sword when you wrote that?
Wheeeee
"Let's see. Nutting? Nut job. He's perfect! OK. Harring? Total nut job. Great! Sign him up. Who's next?" Gonna be a short lived experiment people.
Troubled
What troubles me the most about this story and subsequent comments are "hands on weapons" and "fingers on triggers". I'm getting a vision of Theriault or Job Public ending up in prison for assault or worse. Violence is not the answer people. Put those guns back in their safes.
NoOnBeer
Shouldn't the State have voted on this? Imagine the increase in drunk driving. Imagine the riff raff hanging around the facility. They'll probably hire illegal immigrants. This does not fit Maine's image. Maybe a nice root beer facility would have been better. ;)
ugh
ugh
Enough with the dramatics!
How much did passing your kidney stone cost?
I'm assuming you have insurance Lenny, so you'll likely financially survive your romp through the system. Have a look at the costs for your multiple interactions with health care providers. Tell me if everything looks in order and reasonable.
Thanks grampa!
Revote is Foolish
I'm not sure exactly what people think is going to happen if they put in a casino with a restaurant and entertainment. I think some people have images of the old west with people coming out of swinging half doors shooting guns in the air. The scare tactics are just that. I've been to casinos in different cities. I see civilized people spending recreational dollars on entertainment, food, and beverages. If we were talking about a community putting all their hopes in the gambling industry like Atlantic City or Vegas, then I'd be opposed too. But we are talking about putting one attractive facility in Oxford. I think Maine's image will survive.
Apples and Oranges
The argument that Mainers voted down casinos in the past, therefore, there should never be any further discussion on the matter holds no water. Mainers voted down different initiatives in different economic times. This one passed. Go ahead and recount. Exercise in futility. Maybe CasinosNO can find other ways to impose their moral values on me. Maybe they can take a shot at prohibition again.
Let's do it up here in Maine Paul
Whaddya say? To hell with safety and the environment!
Great
I think I'll start building a bunker like the conservatives did two years ago. I'm off to buy bottled water and canned goods.
Well thought out letter Pete.
Well thought out letter Pete. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Yes on 1.
Not Gonna Happen
Kooky letter Bill. I'm confident that the good people of Maine will not vote this guy in come November. This Marden's manager/city council meeting facilitator is not a good candidate for the Blaine House.
I love koalas
I'm relevant. Did you know koalas are from Australia? Well, at least they were born there.
Born
in Lewiston. From Lewiston.
Really Cathy??
Paul LePage "has professionalism and has already proven himself"??? Are we talking about the same Paul LePage?
Seriously??
Anyone who strongly supports the likes of LePage, O'Donnell, and Palin loses all credibility with me.
Two Letters
I was dumbfounded when he though it was a good idea to write the first letter. Now a second letter?!?! Bert, nobody cares what you think about the NFL. I'm gonna watch 2-3 games tomorrow and love it. Now I have to get back to watching college ball.
Dinosaurs
I hope nobody ever asks him about ancient earth. The T-Rex**** will really hit the fan then.

I always vote Democrat
That's why I voted for Snowe! Keep up the great work Republican Senators. (wink, wink)
Best Outcome
It's a good thing the FD didn't show up. If they did, we would have had to deal with the Right exploding all over this comment section about having to foot the bill with their tax dollars.
Not cool
Not appropriate Tron. Nobody cares what you have to say. Or Bob for that matter. Why you don't you two leave this site and take your issues up to the hills like the Hatfields and the McCoys.
Continued Effort
I just prefer queen's concept of continued efforts to reduce our dependence, versus your and Clem's apparent opinions to simply throw up your hands and say "it's too tough to live without oil, there's nothing we can do".
Tron
I'm a liberal democrat and a "normal American". I enjoyed this story on a Friday morning.
You're right Clem
There's no way to make any of that stuff alternatively, so let's just forget the whole thing. Let's stay dependent on Big Oil.
Here we go
with the "drug dealers, prostitutes and petty crooks" routine. You know who goes to Uncassville? Memeres and peperes from Lewiston on a bus that leaves from the Park and Ride to spend their money and have some fun.
See You At Church
See you at church on Memorial Day Myrtle.
So you're comfortable with
So you're comfortable with paragraph 2 RWB?
Funny!
Nice Work!
Yes. You've said enough rebam. Apparently you're a fan of hate crime. Great work Center for Prevention and the Edward Little community!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new leader for the wierdest letter of the year contest.

Regarding your earlier post
Regarding your earlier post Sirmel, another good reference for you to read is the dictionary. Look up "allot".
Roger, please see my photo.
Roger, please see my photo. Tin foil hats do work wonders to prevent aliens from reading your thoughts. Conservatives use this reference often, but if Rush ever offers you a cup of kool-aid in a plastic cup, I wouldn't drink it.

Uh, Fixit001? You OK buddy? Do you have hundreds of composition pads in your home filled with stream of consciousness writings?
You get your numbers right.
You get your numbers right. You know as well as I do that the the less than 2% figure is not an accurate representation of the current g/l population in the U.S. It's just a convenient survey that you choose to use.
I'm voting soon Mark. What
I'm voting soon Mark.

Who
Madore said something.
Wow. Passionate and well
Wow. Passionate and well written response.

That's a bit of a stretch. Can you tell me the lottery numbers for Saturday oh great Sperkle?
I don't know if it will be
I don't know if it will be taught in schools, but i do know that my kids got the full lecture on the subject by the Bishop at mass this weekend.
