As an elected Official I want to point out I am in agreement with this article, It has been my contention all along that the FOAA has made it harder to obtain public information by the process that has been developed and the working groups suggestions will make it more difficult. I agree public acess to public documents is a right. I do understand that folks have abused the right in the past by overburdening Towns with blanket requests for large amounts of information.
As an important note your elected officials do not generally have knowledge of any requests as they are handled by the appointed FOAA officer usually the Town Clerk Manager or other office staff.
Elected Officials have very little to do with the day to day operations and realistically, most "Elected" Officials meet twice a month for two hours, How much do they really have to hide? How many Towns are run by a Manager or Town Administrators? In this day and age How much do your Elected Officials really know?
