John Martin is right.........the flooding that took place near and around his home was nothing new. I lived on the Swain Road for 11 years and remember the countless times the road would flood. I also remember, as he stated....the shovels full of tar that were used to bandaid the problems. I recall several occassions when the road would flood at the intersection of Spruce and Maine. This Hurricane Irene event was not a new situation...sounds like Rumfords wonderful selectmen are as per usual...throwing the blame around.

What is the point of a protection order? Why was this guy allowed out of jail knowing how dangerous he was??? Our judicial system is never on the side of the victims of domestic abuse. Three innocent people are now dead because this lunatic was let out of prison. Like he'd never get his hands on another gun while he was out of jail...Did they think telling him he couldn't possess one would work?? When will the judicial system take some responsibility for these deaths? They allow them to happen over and over again.

Wow..left the car in neutral..no e-brake on......the cost of retrieving the car is at least going to equal the loss of the vehicle! I can't imagine getting any money from the insurance company for this! The e-brake is there for a reason,dude!

@Kevin....I really don't think the Librarian or The Board of Trustees would make such drastic cuts without there being budget cuts. Having the Library open is an important necessity to area students. If I were one of Rumford's tax payers, I would be livid knowing my tax dollars were going to Black Mountain. The town of Rumford would not fall apart if this ski area were to close as they cried they would without the money. The tax payers should not have had to give them any money. Black Mt. should have planned better when they did their little face lift. And where is the "critical circumstance"? Black Mountain does nothing for the town of Rumford. They have taken advantage of the taxpayers, used money that could have gone for real "critical circumstances". Rumford needs to get those "yahoo" selectmen out of office as well.

I can not count the times I have been cut off and/or almost driven into by a Somalian. driver. They do not know how to drive! On the few occassions I have had to drive down Lisbon street, each time, I have almost been hit by a Somolian driver cutting me off. No I am not singling these people out, I am stating a FACT!! Unless you slowed down while "passing" them and checked their tires, how do you know their tires are bald? I'm one of those drivers that slows down when the road conditions are bad. My tires are far from bald and I have several idiots that fly by me, obviously in a hurry, so I guess they didn't give themselves that much time for bad weather.

Politics are dirty......period!! It's so hard to know who to trust when it comes to voting time. The biker may have revved his bike to alert the driver of the car? Well that's a new one! Isn't that what the horn is for? Knowing the area of this KFC, the woman most likely didn't see this guy coming when she backed out. This area is like the Indy 500, with cars and bikers alike flying through here. Everyone is so quick to blame the car/driver when this kind of accident happens. Can't be the motorcyclist was actually going too fast and came out of no where. Then we have the acrobat on his Harley in Bridgeton. His stupidity leaves some heartbroken people behind.

If this dog has already been considered a dangerous dog, why was it not put down in 2007? Wouldn't you think the idiot owner would at least have the brains to keep the dog restrained or penned or something? This angers me beyond words! The dog already attacked a human...then Vining says he can't explain why the dog attached the Terrier......BECAUSE HE'S DANGEROUS....that's why you loser! The dog needs to be put down this time. A family has lost a very precious pet. Three children had to witness this horrible action, one they won't soon forget. These college kids throw a drunken party....get out of control to the point several police depts are needed....then they start boo hooing that the big bad cop picked on them? Please!!! I saw broken bottles all over the news report...stupid acting drunk students, it was very plain to see what the cops had to deal with. Grow up kids!!! Why is it every single time something like this happens, or an officer has to shoot someone, it's the cops fault..or as Tron said...a republicans? It was Witham that didn't stop for the officer, so at this point, not only did he have outstanding warrants, he was eluding the officer. I sincerely hope the Mom and her baby are okay. The officers are well trained and do know when to stop a pursuit.

I think, too, that the daughter should have thought over her decision to bring this book up to her father. If he had never mentioned this to the family, there was obviously a reason. I agree with "seacat7up".....when you rent a place...problems can't always be seen right off. I speak from experience after renting a mobile home from hell rented from a horrible landlord. What looked like a wonderful mobile home turned into a nightmare. Electrical troubles, leaking roof, heating problems, rotting floor that had been covered up..........etc.  Getting the landlord to do anything was a joke. It always seems like once they have you in and the rent is paid.....you're on your own.

The punishment for these slime balls need to be so much more then a slap on the hand. A few months in jail doesn't cut it. It states this woman is a UMF student....is she walking around town topless because she isn't allowed in class this way? Has she made her point on campus and in her classes as well? I have no idea what goes on behind the walls of this motor cycle club....and it's none of my business. I will say that one afternoon a couple years ago, a friend and I stopped to help one of the bikers whose car was broke down and he was nothing but nice and grateful to us!  I hope Bert is up and riding soon!

I'm sure the officer has been well trained in handling rape victims and when he said she wasn't "injured" he probably meant physically. Yes, I have heard of the word "Accident". I myself have been involved in one when a woman pulled from a stop sign claiming she didn't see me and I was in a bigger vehicle then she! I do not care how old this driver was that was pulling from the speedway. If she's old enough to have her license, then she should be old enough to handle ALL responsibilities that come with it. No, she didn't get up that day with the intentions of causing an accident that day,let alone taking a life, but when you are behind the wheel, you have alot of responsibilities. You watch for EVERYTHING, from vehicles,to pedestrians, kids on bikes to MOTORCYCLES. I'm a biker, and this man and the size of his bike would have been enough to be seen if she was paying enough attention. Yes, I feel sorry for the girl too, BUT, what about Mr. Lorthrup, he died, and he has a family that is now suffering a horrible loss. This girl needs to pay the consequences like anyone else. She may have to live with this the rest of her life, but at least she lives. Mr. Lorthrup no longer does.

Regardless of which will explode quicker, thank God the fuel didn't because everyone would have died. God Bless Mr.Jackson and his family. What a horrible accident and by looking at his car....even though we all know his death was quick, there is no way he didn't suffer pain and fear. First....thank you to Sun Journal for doing this follow up article...great job! Not that any murder makes any sense, period.....but the motive for this one really doesn't make sense. If Moulton was the one with the issue against Sheldon, then why didn't he kill Sheldon? And for both killers being on the honor roll.....they sure didn't use any brains when they planned this murder. Moulton hung out in the bathroom....Hamel runs out into the public where he can be seen and identified....Moulton then describes him to a T to police. And I do find it hard to believe that Sheldon's estranged wife aka Moultons girlfriend, had no idea that this murder was being planned, just my thoughts on this. The gal obviously has poor choices in men all the way around. My sympathy goes out to the families left to deal with this tragedy.

I can't even express the anger I feel that this stupid pathetic guy will walk away from this as if nothing happened. And there is a family mourning the loss of a loved one. This is just so sad. No one ever seems to learn for one, not to get in a car with a drunk driver, and the dumb ass drunk drivers seem to be everywhere! No one ever learns!
