Reporter for the Sun Journal since 1983. My 29th anniversary working here is Halloween! How the time flies. I am the senior reporter, (not sure if that's good or bad! Dan Hartill loves to tease that I covered Abe Lincoln. We have a fun group in the newsroom.)
I cover education, focusing mostly Lewiston-Auburn schools and school committees. I also occasionally cover schools in our circulation area, and area colleges. I enjoy assignments that allow me to interview students and get into the classrooms. I also write general assignment.
Past beats I've covered are "Tough People Smart Money," -- a six-month gig on how to save money. That was fun. I was also the political reporter/State House reporter during Angus King and John Baldacci administrations. Before that I was a Sunday reporter writing investigative, feature and environmental stories. Way back in the 80s I covered the city of Auburn. I've been lucky, and have won a bunch of Maine Press Association writing awards through the years.
Personally, I'm married, the mother of three grown sons (Eddie, Charlie and Joey); three step-children (Stacey, Nick and Lindsay), and grandmother of four (Eddie Washuk IV, 3; Alex Washuk, 18 months; and two identical twins, Clark and Will Washuk, born in April, 2011. Naturally they are all soooo cute.
My spare time is spent at home cooking, reading, on the treadmill, hanging our with husband Rick, raising our fur babies, Lucy our black lab, and Gizmo our aging Shitzu. Rick and I do a lot of hiking and walking with our dogs.

As a mother and grandmother, I can only imagine the loss. Our thoughts have been with the family.
Congratulations to Deputy
Congratulations to Deputy Chief Minkowsky, and LPD. As a reporter most cops are great to deal with when we calling (on deadline at midnight) asking for details about a bad crash or a stabbing. Minkowsky is always so helpful and professional. Seems like a credit to his department. -- Bonnie Washuk

This so sad. Doug was a great news hound. He had a great sense of what was a story. He was a good writer, a good editor.
More than that he was a great guy. He used to show me pictures of his grandchildren as he flashed a big smile. We liked to talk politics, environmental stuff. He always wore a smile. We miss him in the newsroom.
My sympathy toKathi, his daughter, his grandchildren and other family.
