A recent news article says that research has determined the the extreme right wing tend to be be of lower IQ and more subject to manipulation than normal folks. I submit: Exhibit 1, John Davis. Exhibit 2, those folks that agree with him.
I can't quote you chapter and verse because I don't keep all that stuff. FWIW I read in the late summer or fall of '09 that the demand for oil had fallen off substantially and that was the reason that prices were falling. Public relations may have had a bit to do with it as well. As for savings, I read yesterday that Americans have less debt than they have in years (I want to say decades but you will want me to prove it and I can't) The premise was they were paying off debt-that surely can be akin to savings. My take is that Americans are getting in better shape for another rainy day. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Actually a tax on profits might not help the price of fuel for the reasons stated, but- the tax itself might help the general economy. Can Big Oil pass it on? sure but the market place wouldn't stand for it and sales would go down. Prices get lowered to increase sales etc. You get the picture. Last I knew we were SUBSIDIZING Big Oil. Can you imagine subsidizing the largest business in the world Exxon Mobil. That predates Obama. He wants it gone but the Republicans won't let it happen. Imagine that. Big Oil contributes to both the Rs and the Ds but considerably more to the Rs. Ya suppose there is a connection?
Back in the late 50's one of my favorite things was listening to the Lewiston City Council on the radio. They were so bizarre it was hilarious. I am already looking forward to reading about the latest gaffe. The early returns are in. It could be hilarious, unless of course you are directly involved. Good luck Lewiston.
I operated a very large power boat on the coast of Maine for many years. I was also a member of the a unit of The United States Power Squadrons. All, and I stress all, of the folks I boated with followed a very strict rule. NO drinking by the captain until the vessel is secure for the day. The captains monitored passenger consumption and limited it. although captains might consume after the boat was secure, we limited that because in the boating world, you never no when an emergency might arise. Even in recreational boating, the captain is in charge and is responsible for the actions of his/her crew. Every boater should takes courses offered by the USPS or by the Coast Guard Auxillary. Stay safe out there.
Read the the editorial, read the national and international press and learn that the vast majority of the world thinks Obama had no choice. Note the line in the editorial where it says "Obama took the highest road possible". Then join the military and learn something about the UCMJ. After you have done all that come back and make your stupid remarks. Otherwise shut up!
Note that it was a Republican offered resolution designed to support Republican supported Big Oil which contributes about 100 times more money to Republicans than to Democrats. Note also that it was the Democrats with some courageous Republicans that defeated it. Remember that in November.
Donald,
It can work either way. Frequently, if the charges in the demanding state are more serious than ours they will send him back. In that case it would be likely they would leave our charges on file and issue a warrant. They can limit the area from which they would extradite. Although there is a laundry list I would doubt we would extradite from Fla. If he ever came back to Maine he could be arrested.
On the other hand, we could deal with him first and then send him back. Prosecutors have to balance the benefits received by the state (the people) with the costs involved and extradition from Fl can be very expensive.
When you add to all of this that the health insurance industry is helping to orchestrate the theater, it makes it helps to understand why the Repubs want Obama to fail at any cost. I fail to understand why anyone thinks the Republican Right Wing (the only vocal wing) has the interest of the country at heart. They sure do have their own interests at heart.
As for Palin, its a wonder she doesn't just lift off into the sky considering what she has in her head.
Yes Candice you are confused. The article says they were in investigating early Tuesday morning. They started getting calls on Monday night. Now I will admit that perhaps the article was amended after you posted but that seems unlikely in 19 minutes.
Robert,
I certainly didn't mean to demean Lewiston public employees. I have re-read my post and I don't think I did. Nonetheless, if that is the impression I left on you, I apologize. The council, on the other hand, is a different story. More and more, people, not just in Lewiston and South Paris, but elsewhere are being elected on a single issue platform or with a single issue agenda. They are unable to see the big picture-unable to understand that actions have reactions which in turn have other reactions and so on. Rumford has had that problem as has Andover and certainly other places as well. I am aware of several dedicated and professional public employees that have left jobs because some loudmouth with a personal axe to grind has made life miserable for them.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) I am NOT saying that these various councils are evil but the concept is the same.
Back in the mid-50's, before we had a TV, listening to the Lewiston city council on WCOU was real good entertainment. On the morning after meetings my classmates and I would discuss the latest stupid thing said or done by that body. It was pretty entertaining. It is pretty entertaining today for many of the same reasons. Lewiston is being outshone only by South Paris in that regard. Municipal government is in a pretty sad state of affairs.

Sorry Bob, you are wrong.
Sorry Bob, you are wrong. Excise tax is collected by the towns and kept by the towns. The tax supports all town functions which does include roads.
