I really feel sorry that people on MaineCare have been cut to only having two non generic drugs a month. For the past 25 years while having the best health care and prescription coverage available. Now that I am on Medicare and Medicare part D which I pay for every month I am now as in the past forced to accept generic medications for every prescription if they are available. Or I can pay the difference between the generic and the name brand. Oh and yes I have a $20.00

In order for work I was required by law to have a drug test every two years to keep my job. In addition to that i like Frank was subject to random testing. I see nothing wrong with evey politician (you know the ones that pass the laws ) along with anyone applying for assistance having to be tested. However not just once but randomly. If your afraid of the test there is most likely a good reason. It's quite easy to pass. No studying involved, just stay clean.
Children should be taught that being a parent is more than being the sperm or egg donor. Parent hood is a huge responsibility not to be taken lightly. Part of driver training should be on a skid pad. We live in an area where for at least five months a year the roads can be very slippery. It's easy to say don't hit the brakes, steer into the skid. However when it's your first time this is eaisly forgotten. Practice makes perfect.

This drinking party was not a the residence or parent. When our teenages (we had 5 teens at about the same ages due to hers and mine) we always knew where our kids were. How did this happen? Yes every colllege student and every other person eligeble to vote should exercise their right. However why should out of towners or staters be voting on town or state issues? The don't pay town taxes. If I own property in Farmington but my residence is in Oxford I have to vote in Oxford. Why are they different? They can and should get absentee ballots from the place they really reside. Please explain this for us.
I'm not a reconstuctionist. However having driven a class "A" vehicle for over 20 years there are possibilities for this crash. (1)The driver was travelling at well over the posted 40 mph posted speed limit. (2)The vehicl was severly over loaded. (3) The brakes were in terrible condition. Quite possibly all three conditions were met as a vehicle with 22 tires on the ground would not leave 200 feet of brake marks at the posted speed.
If we really wanted to protect people we would ban all motorized vehicles, walking around in a thunder storm, swimming, many jobs, and the list goes on forever. You cannot fix stupid of carelessness. Besides the father in this case was doing something illegal at the moment.

Everything is in the downtown area of Lewiston Auburn? When was the last time you were in either downtown? Your right fifty years ago all the stores and jobs were in the downtown areas. They sure arn't now. While there are a few parts of Westbrook and So Portland that are closeto each other (they do border each other) there are many othersthat arn't. If you are at the Maine Mall and going to the exit 8 area of Westbrook/ Portland the Pike is the only sensible way to get there. If you want to save the toll in New Gloucester going south you can always jump on in HLewiston get of in Auburn and run down 100 and 202 catching the pike in Gray like I have to.
While you are right about the cost of the turnpike on L-A users traveling north or souththere are others factors to look at. As it stands L-a users travel between the two cities free. Try that between Westbrook and So. Portland or Falmouth. How about if you live in Wells you pay the same toll as a person getting off in Gray. While you make some good points the entire length of I-95 and I-295 have to be toll roads or freeways. That would be the only fair way to do it.

Tim I am a retired Teamster and have been for 11 years now. There were four contracts where we had a choice of slight increases in wage and more into our health and welfare contributions, or taking more money and less contributions. Looking beyond raises for the next three years we settled for higher contributions because we knew the economy was down and we couldn't have both. Oh by the way our pension fund included no cost of living increases so I am receiving the same today as I did in my first retirement check. The same is true for state workers today. The biggest argument is for the workers who are not yet employees. Business' cannot operate without profit and neither can government operate above their income. This is a sad but true fact. This is a time when everyone has to tighten their belts a bit.

Something like non drug users are today. everyone smoked it was the in thing. When I entered the service to serve my country a carton of smokes was one dollar. That's right a dime a pack. in the service we didn't get breaks they were smoke em if you got them breaks. C rations contained a pack of 4 cigarettes in them. Thats right paid for by the government that now thinks it is such a bad habit. Was it good for us, of course not but you had to do it to be in the in crowd. Unfortunatly some of us got really hooked. Sort of like all of you that have to have a drink or two every day, or a joint or what ever your habit is. Would i like to quit of course I would, and have tried many times. Would there be an increase in the murder rate if I did . Most likely the answer is yes until I were caught.

Bad eating habits. Hmmm it's meal time you set down to eat, not knowing if your going to get past the first bite before the alarm sounds. Maybe you tend to gulp the food down in a hurry.
Maybe the editorial staff should get off their butts and go out and see what life is in the real world. How real people keep food on the table for their family. Skiing is a dangerous sport. Even under the best of conditions it is much more dangerous that auto racing. When you are skiing it is you against the obstacles. Every skier knows this (or should at least). When one gets to the slopes they start to think with the left side of their brain. Oh sure they tell me it is icy but that only increases the challange. People go out driving during an ice storm then complain when they crash their car that the roads were slippery. Well duh did you really need whatever you were after that bad. It is a human nature thing not to listen to advice wether the advice is given to a two year old or an eighty-two year old. My sympathys to the skiers families.

Officer Vega arrested this person on Nov 24 for OUI. Less than two weeks later she is back in custody for the same and numerous other charges. No one cares anymore. While attending the Christmas parade in So Paris saturday I was appaled at the lack of respect for the flag. I was one of the very few that removed my hat and placed it over my heart as the flag passed.

If you are old enough to remember when you went ot the doctors office and there was a doctor and sometimes a nurse / receptionist and only other patients in the office the cost of the visit was reasonable. However now when I go to the same doctor there are six office people and three RN's. Why because everything has to be documented. Why because if you go to the doctor's office and feel that they misdiagnosed, mistreated you then some sleeze bag lawyer runs up to you and tells you that you will get millions if you sue. While this is good for a few it adds millions to the cost of malpractice insurance. Ask any doctor what their insurance costs along with the added office staff and you will see why an office visit costs so much.

Tron I am a conservative bully. I want all public assistance to end for those to lazy to get off their butts and work. However if a person is working and being an upstanding citizen and misfortune hits them with a real injury, or disability then they should receive help, real help. The firefighters did one hell of a save on the building. according to Federal standards there have to be 19 firefighters on scene before anyone can enter a burning building. It is a shame that a town the size of Rumford has only two paid firefighters on duty.
The tiny town of Oxford has four on duty from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday thru Friday and two on duty on weekends. They do share duties between the fire and rescue departments. Perhaps it's stime for other towns to be looking at a better staffed fire department.
Having worked with a bad back for over twenty years I can honestly say that I would be hard pressed to stand day after day holding a sign. Pain is a part of life. Get over it. learn to live with it like I did, it's not pleasant but life goes on.

It was once the center of community life, with concerts, balls, dances, traveling minstrel shows, theater performances, National Guard musters, town meetings and high school graduations. The key word in that sentence is was. When was the last time any of these activities happened. The last thing I remember happening out of that group of activities was NHS graduation in 1961. If you are out riding around and see something you feel is worthh calling 911 about take a second and pull over and confirm that it really is an emergency situation. Being a responder in Oxford I can't count the times that we and neighboring towns have been dispatched to that arn't emergency situations. If your riding along and see a motorcycle laying on it's side stop and ask if the rider is alright, we have had three situations where we have been dispatched to a motorcycle crash when in fact the bike layed over because the kickstand sank into the dirt. It's a good thing to report an accident but a lot of people put themselves in jeopardy to respond to these situations that are not emergency situations.
Being a menber of a small local fire department and having joined the ranks of toll taker at our local MDA toll bridge I can tell you no one is forced or coerced into giving. Whether they give or not they get a wave and have a safe weekend greeting. I'm sure it is the same with the Lewiston Fire Department members. They are there trying to raise money for a good cause.

ErnestFirst I'm not a resident of Otisfield, nor Paris Hill. That said why is it that there is a full time post office on Paris Hill when every resident there has to drive past the SO. Paris office to get home, and if you use the free RFD mail service the mail is delivered to your house, which many residents on the hill do. That said six pieces of mail a day seems like a money losing practice to me, especially when you can put the outgoing mail in your home box and put the flag up to let the carrier know you have outgoing mail. Perhaps it is time for the postal service to look really hard at some of it's past practices.

Does it work, it did for our 6 kids, and thier friends many who refered to us as mom and dad.
Show your children you love them and care for them. Don't be afraid to say no sometimes. It's called tough love. Your children are not your friends, they were given to you to be molded into responsible adults.

With a due respect how qbout we have a program that teaches all children and adults that having children is a huge responsibility. Not to be taken lightly. It is an eighteen to twenty something year commitment. This training needs to be given to both males and females.

Tina do you have family? I have two daughters that were single parents, they lived with us for some time after the grandkids were born. I have two nieces same situation. The thing is none of them ever applied for anything. They went to work in low paying jobs and worked their way up to a somewhat decent pay. Once on their feet they moved out. Part of driver training should be on a skid pad. We live in an area where for at least five months a year the roads can be very slippery. It's easy to say don't hit the brakes, steer into the skid. However when it's your first time this is eaisly forgotten. Practice makes perfect.

when the French Canadians came to lewiston/Auburn there were jobs waiting for them. Tons of jobs that why they were recruted to move to the area.The mills even provided housing for them. My grandparents (I'm 100% French Canadian) were in the mills working 60 hour weeks at the age of 14. Thats how much of a need for employees there was at the time. Unfortunatly as time progresses situations change. First the mills started moving to the south in the 1950s. Then the shoe factory jobs started going south in the 1960s. Today there are very few of the jobs available to people with little or no training. There is no factory housing. In short the immigrants of today do not have the opertunities to improve their life as the French Canadians did a hundred or so years ago.

that Justin was a very good person when he left to go to war, that was not the person than got fatally injured by the officer. The person the officer was facing at that moment was going to trial for beating another man senseless for refusing to give him a ride. How many people were involved in those standby hours. ever be successful. Some children do not want to learn. Some children with severe handicaps simply cannot learn. My son and daughter in law adopted such a child three years ago. They have had her as a foster child since she left the hospital. She is a beautiful little girl that is truly loved by all of us. However we all realize that for entire time here on earth she is going to require 24/7 care. Shortly she will have to attend school according to state law. This is a child who through no fault of her own cannot sit up in a chair without being supported. She has a feeding tube because her brain cannot teach her how to swallow. How in God's name is this child expected to be at grade level in school. It is time that this well intended law be revoked.
Large trucks
have many blind spots where a great number of things can hide from view. Sitting in the drivers seat the area directly in front of the driver is not viewable. A car kid, adult can hide there eaisily. Another is both sides of the tractor between the rear tractor wheels and the back of the cab. Respect the trucks for thier size, give them some extra space, and make sure they see you.

I'm not a reconstuctionist. However having driven a class "A" vehicle for over 20 years there are possibilities for this crash. (1)The driver was travelling at well over the posted 40 mph posted speed limit. (2)The vehicl was severly over loaded. (3) The brakes were in terrible condition. Quite possibly all three conditions were met as a vehicle with 22 tires on the ground would not leave 200 feet of brake marks at the posted speed.

grade student at St Louis school when the fire started. When it got close to the school the children were taken farther up the hill. from there they watched the school, the church and the convent all burn to the ground. Everything is in the downtown area of Lewiston Auburn? When was the last time you were in either downtown? Your right fifty years ago all the stores and jobs were in the downtown areas. They sure arn't now. While there are a few parts of Westbrook and So Portland that are closeto each other (they do border each other) there are many othersthat arn't. If you are at the Maine Mall and going to the exit 8 area of Westbrook/ Portland the Pike is the only sensible way to get there. If you want to save the toll in New Gloucester going south you can always jump on in HLewiston get of in Auburn and run down 100 and 202 catching the pike in Gray like I have to.

Try that between Westbrook and So. Portland or Falmouth. How about if you live in Wells you pay the same toll as a person getting off in Gray. While you make some good points the entire length of I-95 and I-295 have to be toll roads or freeways. That would be the only fair way to do it.

There were four contracts where we had a choice of slight increases in wage and more into our health and welfare contributions, or taking more money and less contributions. Looking beyond raises for the next three years we settled for higher contributions because we knew the economy was down and we couldn't have both. Oh by the way our pension fund included no cost of living increases so I am receiving the same today as I did in my first retirement check. The same is true for state workers today. The biggest argument is for the workers who are not yet employees. Business' cannot operate without profit and neither can government operate above their income. This is a sad but true fact. Thats right paid for by the government that now thinks it is such a bad habit. Was it good for us, of course not but you had to do it to be in the in crowd. Unfortunatly some of us got really hooked. Sort of like all of you that have to have a drink or two every day, or a joint or what ever your habit is. Would i like to quit of course I would, and have tried many times. Would there be an increase in the murder rate if I did . Most likely the answer is yes until I were caught.

Skiing is a dangerous sport. Even under the best of conditions it is much more dangerous that auto racing. When you are skiing it is you against the obstacles. Every skier knows this (or should at least). When one gets to the slopes they start to think with the left side of their brain. Oh sure they tell me it is icy but that only increases the challange. People go out driving during an ice storm then complain when they crash their car that the roads were slippery. Well duh did you really need whatever you were after that bad. If you are old enough to remember when you went ot the doctors office and there was a doctor and sometimes a nurse / receptionist and only other patients in the office the cost of the visit was reasonable. However now when I go to the same doctor there are six office people and three RN's. Why because everything has to be documented. Why because if you go to the doctor's office and feel that they misdiagnosed, mistreated you then some sleeze bag lawyer runs up to you and tells you that you will get millions if you sue. While this is good for a few it adds millions to the cost of malpractice insurance. Ask any doctor what their insurance costs along with the added office staff and you will see why an office visit costs so much.

The firefighters did one
The firefighters did one hell of a save on the building. according to Federal standards there have to be 19 firefighters on scene before anyone can enter a burning building. It is a shame that a town the size of Rumford has only two paid firefighters on duty.
The tiny town of Oxford has four on duty from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday thru Friday and two on duty on weekends. They do share duties between the fire and rescue departments. Perhaps it's stime for other towns to be looking at a better staffed fire department.

Being a responder in Oxford I can't count the times that we and neighboring towns have been dispatched to that arn't emergency situations. If your riding along and see a motorcycle laying on it's side stop and ask if the rider is alright, we have had three situations where we have been dispatched to a motorcycle crash when in fact the bike layed over because the kickstand sank into the dirt. It's a good thing to report an accident but a lot of people put themselves in jeopardy to respond to these situations that are not emergency situations.

Being a menber of a small local fire department and having joined the ranks of toll taker at our local MDA toll bridge I can tell you no one is forced or coerced into giving. Perhaps it is time for the festival organizers to step back and take a good look at the way they are doing things and come up with better ideas to attract sponsors. Paris office to get home, and if you use the free RFD mail service the mail is delivered to your house, which many residents on the hill do. That said six pieces of mail a day seems like a money losing practice to me, especially when you can put the outgoing mail in your home box and put the flag up to let the carrier know you have outgoing mail.
