While I live and work in the Kennebec Valley region, I've become very concerned with both our declining economy and overall quality of life. IMO, this decline has been caused by the Extreme Far-Left political movement. It's time for some positive change in Maine. If you're looking for some of our potential solutions, please visit www.MaineTaxpayers.com and www.MaineRTW.com and help get Maine back on track.

Dirigo needs to be replaced
How soon before the failure called Dirigo Health Plan will be replaced with a better program?
Thank you, Josh
That is a great LTTE! The artwork will be a nice addition for any museum... however, we still have to deal with all of the greedy and selfish union bosses determined to further ruin our state and country. God bless our USA.
Great point
If she doesn't like that decision, what are the chances she'll give back the $60,000 tax dollars in exchange for the mural?
We are now moving in a better direction
and this progress will be further improved when the new Right-to-Work legislation is passed in Maine. The Far-Left union bosses have been taking advantage of honest and hard working people in Maine for too long. It's time to cut the puppet strings and let Maine workers enjoy more of the freedoms they deserve (FMI, see www.MaineRTW.com). It's time for our local labor unions to start acting like labor unions again and stop wasting our tax dollars on their blatant Far-Left political games.
That's funny Dan
You've asked, "Where are they?" Did you forget that some people have to work for a living so they can pay the excessive taxes which support the Extreme Far-Left movement and all of their daily protests. It's a real shame we have so many wagon-riders these days, but that is now beginning to be addressed by our more fiscally conservative leaders in Augusta.
Right-to-Work is 100% Right-for-Maine workers
Jonathan is correct about the two proposed laws - Right-to-Work is 100% Right-for-Maine workers and labor unions will even benefit if they simply start acting more like true labor unions and stop serving as Political Action Committees (PACs) for the extreme liberal agenda. Read the facts and benefits about becoming a Right-to-Work state at www.MaineRTW.com. IMO, the only people who won't benefit so much when Maine becomes a RTW state are some of those greedy union bosses (i.e., AFL-CIO, SEIU and NEA) and certain politicians... but the hard working middle class will only benefit when RTW is passes.
Portland does not own the artwork
Since a previous article has indicated that $60,000 state tax dollars were spent on the artwork, it belongs in a state museum and not in Portland's City Hall... unless the taxpayers of Portland want to buy it from us state taxpayers.
Maine's official tourism website
If you've never seen the state's official tourism website, it's certainly worth a look at www.VisitMaine.com
This is a teachable moment for Brad
Brad, since you don't seem to be aware of the related Laws, this will be a teachable moment for you. In 1977 (Abood v. Detroit Board of Education), our U.S. Supreme Court ruled that compulsory dues for politics violates the First Amendment and that it is illegal to withhold forced dues from dissenters beyond the cost of collective bargaining. You can read the facts about this case at http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=431&invol=209
In 1986 (Chicago Teachers Union v. Hudson), our U.S. Supreme Court found far-reaching rights in challenging compulsory dues withheld from teachers who refrain from union membership. The Court applied civil rights statutes and found that the teachers represented by NRTW attorneys were denied due process of law under the First Amendment. You can read the facts about this case at
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=475&invol=292
In 1988 (Communications Workers of America v. Beck), our U.S. Supreme Court also ruled that workers covered by the National Labor Relations Act can withhold forced dues from the union for everything but the documented cost of collective bargaining. You can read the facts about this case at http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=487&invol=735
In 1991 (Lehnert v. Ferris Faculty Association), our U.S. Supreme Court fleshed out earlier, vague language by establishing a rigorous three-part test, based on the First Amendment, to judge the chargeableness of union activities paid for by forced dues. It also clarified that non-members cannot be forced to subsidize union lobbying and public relations. You can read the facts about this case at http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=500&invol=507
Now, if you keep all of the above-mentioned decisions by our U.S. Supreme Court (especially Lehnert v. Ferris Faculty Association), take a few minutes and review the vague spreadsheets for SEIU Local 1989 which serve as their 2009 & 2010 Hudson/Beck Notices (posted for review at
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2099942/seiu-local-1989-2009-2010-report...).
If we start with one simple claim from their 2010 report (dated December 31, 2009), such as the $1,202,826 they’ve claimed as a Total Chargeable Expense for their “Field Representatives”, the union bosses at SEIU Local 1989 are unable to give a detailed accountability for those expenses. In other words, they cannot prove that money was used for non-political activities/expenses… and that is only the tip of an iceberg with the accounting practices being used within Far-Left groups like SEIU Local 1989.
BTW, as defined in Lehnert v. Ferris Faculty Association, “the union bears the burden of proving the proportion of chargeable expenses to total expenses.” Since a Procedural Audit of SEIU Local 1989 will surely expose an array of fraudulent accounting practices, it’s now time for that to happen. That labor union has used both Maine taxpayers and fee payers alike as financial puppets for too long, but a Procedural Audit will surely help resolve that fiasco.
Any questions? Class dismissed.
Hey Brad...
Read the law and you'll see that the public sector unions are not supposed to be using those monies for political purposes. Be patient, Brad. Sooner or later the union bosses will get nailed for the fraudulent accounting games.
Tax dollars should not be used for political expenses/activities
Mr. Hemingway - Since many of Maine's public sector union bosses have been using our taxpayer resources and tax dollars to promote their Far-Left political agenda/activities, do you really believe that's okay? We need to keep labor unions going in our USA but (IMO) they have no right to use our tax dollars for political purposes.
The facts are the facts
and these truths will be exposed when Procedural Audit is completed on organizations like SEIU Local 1989. There would be No Problem if their political activities did not involve the use/waste of countless tax dollars and taxpayer resources... but it does and it should be stopped for us taxpayers'. Fortunately, more and more people are now realizing what the extreme Far-Left is doing to further ruin our country while putting more money into their own greedy pockets. If you want to be part of that crowd, you are certainly entitled to do that but you have no right to do it at the expense of others.
You will first need to review
the SEIU Local 1989 spreadsheets from their 2009 & 2010 Hudson/Beck Notices, which are posted at
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2099942/seiu-local-1989-2009-2010-report...
Since I'm not going to play the game of Chicago-style politics, in short, the fraudulent accounting practices have been used to inflate the figures within the last column called "Total Chargeable Expenses." The union bosses at SEIU Local 1989 cannot prove those expenses were for non-political items, as required by law. Our honest and hard working state workers deserve a better union!
What about the false information you have published
Ms. Reaves, Why has the LSJ published so much false information about the RTW topic?
You've made some good points
but countless businesses looking to relocate won't even consider non-RTW states... just ask the good folks down at private sector organizations like Maine & Company. BTW, as for energy costs, what about those colder RTW states illustrated on the map at http://www.nrtw.org/rtws.htm? We need to find some solutions for the current economic fiasco, and it looks like RTW will be part of a good solution that will help almost all workers in Maine and every taxpayer. Are you a current or past union member/boss?
It's time for us to start cleaning up this mess
Thank you, Ms. Reaves, but the perception of how your newspaper is helping promote the Far-Left agenda is very real. We have major financial problems all over our USA, and it's time for us to start cleaning up this mess. If we don't start now, can you imagine what our future generations will face for debt?
Well said, Mr. Berry
It’s good to remember what Thomas Jefferson once said, "To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves is sinful and tyrannical."
Thank you for that update
It's nice to see that Mr. Lansley is clearly more open with the readers about who he is politically (e.g., his piece includes "Scott Lansley is a former Legislator, current s879electman in Sabattus. He resides in Sabattus with his wife and children. He also is the Political Director for Maine Taxpayer’s United"). For the record, since I am serving as the current Chairman for Maine Taxpayers United (http://www.MaineTaxpayers.com), it has been great to work with Mr. Lansley over the past few years. IMO, we need more people like him in Augusta who will roll up their sleeves and get the tough jobs done for us taxpayers.
Good workers are being used like puppets
Mr. Fessenden, the term “forced unionism” is defined as when an employer and labor union(s) have an agreement that makes union membership and/or payment of union dues/fees a condition of employment. This applies for both private and public sector employment in our USA, either before or after the hiring date. The employee has no choice but to join/pay, resign or get fired.
Since the use of Forced Unionism has grown significantly in Maine under Governor Baldacci, as illustrated at http://www.mseaseiu.org/forms/10-Hudson.pdf, more and more tax dollars and taxpayers resources have been used for political purposes. Although this is not supposed to happen, certain labor unions like SEIU Local 1989 have not been held accountable for their use of creative accounting practices.
For example; the spreadsheet listed on page 11 (above link) has critical information that deserves a Procedural Audit. In short, the column titled “Total Chargeable Expenses” has included a large amount of costs related to SEIU’s political activities. In addition, the spreadsheets from their 2009 and 2010 Hudson/Beck Notices are posted for comparison at
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2099942/seiu-local-1989-2009-2010-report.... When challenged, SEIU Local 1989 has almost no detailed accountability to prove those expenses were non-political as is required by law. Since SEIU has been a huge campaign supporter for Governor Baldacci and countless other Far-Left political campaigns, they have never been held accountable for the inappropriate use of both our tax dollars and taxpayer resources. When Maine’s new Right-to-Work proposal is passed, some of these problems will be reduced and our local labor unions will even have a chance to grow and earn more revenues.
Maine has some major financial problems right now, and many of them involve the current use of Forced Unionism within our public sector workplaces. Maine workers and taxpayers deserve better, but it seems obvious that some of the greedy Far-Left leaders are primarily concerned about what’s in their own wallets. If you’re sick and tired of being used like a financial and political puppet, please help Maine become a Right-to-Work state. FMI, see http://www.mainertw.com.
Shame on the LSJ for publishing that piece
Although we all know that an "editorial" is just that, an editorial, it seems unfortunate that this newspaper will publish blatant lies. While some readers probably know Mr. Fessenden is listed as the Chairman for Androscoggin County Democrats (Source: http://demcorps.org/AndroscogginME.aspx), that little fact isn't even mentioned... just like what happened in a recent LTTE called “Look at the facts" (By David McKeone and published Mar 09, 2011 at http://www.sunjournal.com/letters/story/995581#comment-76228).
Since David McKeone is also listed as a union boss in Maine, Business Manager for LABORERS AFL-CIO Local 327 (source: http://www.unionfacts.com/unions/unionProfile.cfm?ID=16117), it seems obvious that both he and the LSJ’s management didn’t think readers would need to know that major fact. David McKeone is not just some average taxpayer and resident of Poland Spring, he’s a major union boss and that fact should have at least been mentioned in his LTTE... just as Mr. Fessenden's position with the Androscoggin County Democrats should be included. Shame on all parties involved for attempting to slip those half-truths past the readers, but that does seem to be typical approach for the Far-Left's extreme movement toward more socialism in our USA. It's unfortunate how lop-sided our media outlets have become… I miss the use of those old fashioned (but good) facts.
This editorial from Mr. Fessenden has wrong information
Mr. Fessenden has included some very bad information in that editorial, especially his claim that the passage of Maine’s new Right-to-Work legislation “will weaken our economy.” That’s simply not true but it is an example of the typical rhetoric coming from greedy union bosses.
In reality, and as illustrated on the NILRR Fact Sheet at http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2589175/nilrr-fact-sheet-pdf-february-10..., the Cost of Living-Adjusted Per Capita Disposable Personal Income (2009) is lower in Forced-Unionism States like Maine. Wow, I wonder if the rest of his editorial has any additional false information… if you want real facts about the strong economic and social benefits that will come by passing RTW in Maine, please visit http://www.MaineRTW.com.
Passing Right-to-Work will help Maine workers and taxpayers
That's a great editorial by Mr. Lansley! I hope more workers in both our public and private sectors will recognize the large number of economic and social benefits that will come by passing RTW in Maine. FMI, or to help get RTW passed in our state, please visit http://www.MaineRTW.com.
The management of this newspaper
must have know who he is... they should have included his position with AFL-CIO next to his name and town. LSJ readers certainly deserve to know all of the related facts, and that's a big one.
Maine teachers deserve a better labor union
that will focus on labor needs/issues instead of primarily acting like a Political Action Committee for the extreme Far-Left's agenda... and our hard working teachers should not be forced to join the MEA in order to access a group liability insurance plan. Can you imagine how many teachers would drop their MEA membership if they could get that coverage some other way? The passage of LD 309 ("An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State") will be the first step in a better direction for our teachers. FMI, see http://www.mainertw.com
Unions could reap benefits when Right-to-Work is passed
All of Maine's honest state workers and the taxpayers alike deserve better! Fortunately, our legislators are now considering two proposals that could help all parties involved. The passage of LD 309 ("An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State") or LD 788 ("An Act To Prohibit Forced Payment of Labor Union Dues or Fees by Workers") will help all types of workers and taxpayers alike in Maine.
Please ignore the Far-Left’s rhetoric and learn the facts. Please get active and help get LD 309 and/or LD 788 passed this year... Maine workers deserve this improvement and labor unions stand to reap large rewards when it’s passed. FMI, see http://www.mainertw.com
David McKeone doesn't seem to know what the facts are
Mr. McKeone should read the economic facts posted at http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2589175/nilrr-fact-sheet-pdf-february-10...
It's a shame that letter is missing-the-facts
After reading that piece of Far-Left propaganda, you might want to know that David McKeone is also a union boss here in Maine… in fact; he’s listed as the Business Manager for LABORERS AFL-CIO Local 327 at http://www.unionfacts.com/unions/unionProfile.cfm?ID=16117.
If either proposal gets passed this year, LD 309 ("An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State") or LD 788 ("An Act To Prohibit Forced Payment of Labor Union Dues or Fees by Workers"), it will actually help all types of workers (in both the public and private sectors) and taxpayers alike here in Maine. The real facts are posted at http://www.MaineRTW.com. Please learn the facts and help get LD 309 or LD 788 passed this year... Mainers deserve this improvement.
Don't forget to audit the SEIU's role in this growing fiasco
Since the Maine Turnpike Authority has also employed the Forced Unionism strategy with SEIU, as illustrated at http://www.mseaseiu.org/forms/10-Hudson.pdf, the tax/toll payers deserve a detailed audit at SEIU Local 1989. It's nice to see our new state leaders taking us in a better and less wasteful direction. The corruption and political handouts need to be stopped!
AFSCME and the pro-socialism push
BTW… if you'd like to see some proof of what certain labor unions are attempting to do to our USA, just take three (3) minutes and watch at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M3DLGP4UKQ&feature=player_embedded -- in particular, at the 2:08 point, listen to Mike Imbrogna (a union steward representing AFSCME)... this is but one example of how public tax dollars are being used to push for more socialism/communism in our country. Do you really support those actions?
The new Right-to-Work bills will help all Maine workers
The facts: there are now two Right-to-Work bills under review by our Maine legislature -- LD 788 ("An Act To Prohibit Forced Payment of Labor Union Dues or Fees by Workers") and LD 309 ("An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State"). If either is passed, our public and private sector workers alike will all reap large economic and social rewards (FMI, see http://www.mainertw.com).
In addition, if either is passed, local labor unions will receive an added bonus - a new chance to offer better service and more fiscal accountability for their members. If the union bosses do a good job, more people will actually want to join their union without being forced to do so. This is a win-win situation for all parties involved, but the pro-socialism union bosses clearly don't agree with this concept.
Hence, one very important question: Do you support the union’s status quo pro-socialism approach or do you want to help solve our state and country’s major financial problems? Where do you sit?
The union's rhetoric has taken over
but the truth is out there if you have an open mind for it. Do you even care about the truth, Dan? Do you really support their blatant push toward communism at the taxpayers' expense? Which union are you connectd with?
The SEIU style is a major problem for Maine workers
From bad contract negotiations to poor management and accounting practices, the SEIU style public unions are part of several major problems for all Maine workers and taxpayers. Over the past ten years, the so-called union leaders seem to have become more interested in supporting the Far-Left political agenda with less focus on membership needs/wants... and this has all been compounded in the wrong direction with Governor Baldacci's forced unionism agreement with SEIU (in exchange for their major campaign support).
There is however one solution for this public sector mess - LD 309, "An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State" is now with our Maine legislators (FMI, see http://www.mainertw.com). We have some major financial problems within our state government, and SEIU is involved with most of them... state workers and taxpayers alike deserve to have SEIU get fired!
Not true
Dan, if a union doesn't have a monopoly contract, they don't have to bargain for everyone and thus your free loader problem goes away. You're 100% right that nobody should get a free ride. In addition, nobody should be forced to support an organization that violates their personal beliefs. Dan, do you agree with that thought?
Maine's public sector workers deserve better labor unions
Maine state workers and other taxpayers alike will all benefit if Mr. Quint's organization would stop primarily acting like a Political Action Committee (PAC) and go back to being a good old fashioned labor union that cares about their members. The big groups like SEIU, NEA and AFL-CIO have played a major role in this recent negative change... but there are now two solutions being considered by our Maine legislature. LD 788 ("An Act To Prohibit Forced Payment of Labor Union Dues or Fees by Workers") and LD 309 ("An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State") are now before the Maine legislature. If passed, our public and private sector workers alike will all reap large economic and social rewards (FMI, see http://www.mainertw.com).
In addition, if this legislation is passed, local labor unions will receive an added bonus - a new chance to offer better service and more fiscal accountability for their members. If the union bosses do a good job, more people will actually want to join their union without being forced to do so. If the union bosses want to keep pushing what looks like a communist agenda, they should be allowed to do so but not at the taxpayers' expense. LD 309 and LD 788 will stop that from happening while also creating positive economic development in Maine.
In addition,
the unions will receive an added bonus - a chance to offer better service and more fiscal accountability for their members. If they do a good job, there's no reason why more people won't want to join their union.
Great opportunity for Maine workers
Since both LD 788 ("An Act To Prohibit Forced Payment of Labor Union Dues or Fees by Workers") and LD 309 ("An Act To Make Voluntary Membership in a Public Employee Labor Organization in the State") are now underway in the Maine legislature, if passed, public and private sector workers alike we reap big rewards. FMI, http://www.mainertw.com/legislation.htm
SEIU has been abusing our state and taxpayer funded
resources for years while they promote a 100% pro-socialism agenda. Our tax dollars should not be used for political purposes on either side, but it sounds like you don't agree with that concept.
SEIU Local 1989 deserves a Procedural Audit
Chris Quint is fairly new to his position with SEIU Local 1989, but that organization still needs to be held accountable for their inappropriate use of taxpayer resources. If his organization would act more like a good old fashioned labor union that actually cares about their members, SEIU Local 1989 would not have to be fighting for survival as they now are. Just imagine, if they stopped focusing on a political agenda, people would probably be happy to join and support that union versus the current mandate for forced unionism with zero fiscal accountability of that Far-Left PAC. If/When a Procedural Audit is conducted at SEIU Local 1989, Maine taxpayers will see how that union/PAC has been abusing the state system for years. The chickens are finally coming home to roost!
Taxpayer resources should not be used by either
Brad, I think we agree that our taxpayer resources should not be used for political purposes by either the so-called labor union (SEIU Local 1989) or the current administration. Unfortunately, SEIU has been abusing our taxpayer resources for years under democrats! If you want some proof, just review their public photo albums posted at http://picasaweb.google.com/111658079725768564681/ -- and don't forget, a picture is worth a thousand words. Do you agree?
SEIU Local 1989 has abused the state email system for years
Since SEIU Local 1989 has abused the state email system for years, this reporter should do some research and write an article on that fact. That so-called labor union has been using our taxpayer resources for years to promote/support the Far-Left's political agenda. It's time for these political games at the taxpayers' expense to be stopped!
Right-to-Work law will be good for workers and taxpayers alike
The best solution for Maine workers is for us to become a Right-to-Work state, but Mr. Tipping and Mr. Quint are certainly too connected with the Far-Left’s political machine to recognize this fact (e.g., see the large donations from their organizations at http://www.maine.gov/ethics/pacs/index.htm).
We have some major financial problems here in Maine that have been caused by 30+ years of poor contract management and weak governmental leadership in Augusta. They made all kinds of promises to win votes for the democrats’ agenda but failed to set money aside to pay for everything. Fortunately, we have a new Captain at the helm who is working hard to steer our ship away from a nasty reef. As for Maine’s new Right-to-Work legislation, it’s not anti-union and it will help solve some of the economic problems in this state… but it is only one step of many we need to take. If you want to skip the Far-Left rhetoric and learn the facts about Maine Right-to-Work, just visit http://www.MaineRTW.com and do some research. It’s time for all of the political games at the taxpayers’ expense to be stopped!
How can you say that?
Dan, how can you honestly imply no politics are involved at the MTA? Did you forget that they're so-called labor union is the infamous and Far-Left SEIU? If you follow that union's website (http://www.mseaseiu.org) and read the MTA's contract (http://www.mseaseiu.org/forms/MTA_Employees_2009-2011.pdf), you will see that politics are very involved with the Turnpike Authority. If a Procedural Audit is completed on the past five years worth of MTA books, I believe the toll payers will be shocked. The Far-Left's political party at the taxpayers' expense is finally over!
The facts will amaze you
and they're available for review at http://www.maineopengov.org
tron, why do you lie like that?
Why did you say "his 'remarks' were read by a spokeman" when you probably knew that was a blatant lie? Did you perhaps have a tough childhood and you're still trying to heal-the-wounds? Good luck with your recovery.
you are 100% right... the iceberg tip is now visible
but we need to beware what's not yet visible. This isn’t rocket science folks, but it’s amazing how many valid questions/concerns a random review of the facts can produce. For example, here are two reasons why Maine taxpayers deserve a Procedural Audit of state programs like Efficiency Maine. If you look at the staff list for Efficiency Maine (http://www.efficiencymaine.com/efficiency_maine_staff), you will notice that the first and last names on the list are Joy Adamson (Grants Administrator) and Tim Vrabel (Strategic Initiatives Specialist). Next, since they are public servants, their 2009 compensation packages (listed at http://www.maineopengov.org) raise some interesting questions. Remember, this example is based on a random review of strictly the first and last person listed on their staff list.
#1. Joy Adamson is listed as “Grants Administrator” on the Efficiency Maine website. However, on the state payroll website, s/he has the following two (2) listings:
a) Adamson, Joy M // Public Service Coordinator III // $55,991 (total compensation 2009);
b) Adamson, Joy M // Utility Analyst // $22,419 (total compensation 2009).
HENCE, Joy’s total compensation in 2009 between those two (2) fancy job titles/positions was $78,410 tax dollars.
#2. Tim Vrabel, is listed as “Strategic Initiatives Specialist” on the Efficiency Maine website. However, on the state payroll website, s/he has the following two (2) listings:
a) Vrabel, Timothy J // Public Service Coordinator III // $78,066 (total compensation 2009);
b) Vrabel, Timothy J // Utility Analyst // $28,498 (total compensation 2009).
HENCE, Timothy’s total compensation in 2009 between those SAME TWO (2) fancy job titles/positions as Joy Adamson was $106,563 tax dollars.
In addition, some quick and easy Google searches under a person’s name will often provide more pertinent information… as it does for both of these two people. Needless to say, I hope Ms. Schalit will continue her investigative reporting in areas like this… the political games with our tax dollars must be exposed and stopped ASAP.
Tron, if you want some proof, please read
part of the event's program at
http://www.keepandshare.com/userpics/a/c/c/o/untabilitymaine/2011-01/sm/...
It's a real shame the Progressive movement has so many negative aspects. Isn't that right Tron?
FYI, Governor LePage was there
Hey tron, you should learn the real facts before writing junk like that... Governor LePage was indeed at this event yesterday.
Nice job, Ms. Schalit.
Wow, a real news story! The website (http://www.mainegreenenergyalliance.org) states “Maine Green Energy Alliance, a non-profit organization funded by a sub-grant of Efficiency Maine funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”
Hence two important questions: 1) Does this program involve more political favors from those Far-Left politicians? 2) What’s required for a person/company to become one of their so-called “certified energy auditor” that is referenced at http://www.mainegreenenergyalliance.org/how-we-help.html?
IMHO, since there seem to be several red flags waving for attention to this matter, it’s time for someone within the LePage Administration to follow-the-money by conducting a Procedural Audit at both the Maine Green Energy Alliance and Efficiency Maine. It’s time for the financial games with our tax dollars to be stopped!
so true, but just wait and see how nasty they get when
our new 'Maine Right To Work State' legislation gets passed and thus reducing some of the fat political bank accounts for so-called unions like SEIU, AFL-CIO and Teamsters. 'Right To Work' will be a great boost for both the Maine economy and Maine workers overall. If you want to stay informed about this important legislation, be sure to bookmark www.MaineTaxpayers.com and www.MaineRTW.com
The Far-Left has created this Maine mess
but Governor LePage will surely help us escape the pro-Socialism push... but some of the above comments illustrate how this won't be an easy task.
SEIU Local 1989 has been using state workers as political pawns
In case you haven't noticed, the state employees union (SEIU Local 1989) has been using state workers as political pawns for years... not to mention the countless amount of tax dollars they've also used on one-sided political campaigns for the Far-Left.

Paul LePage should be our next Governor
As usual, the extreme progressives are distorting how Mr. LePage would like to help rebuild our state economy, but the facts about his plans are posted for your review at http://www.lepage2010.com - please go read the truth. The extreme liberals have ruined this state and they want to maintain the status quo if we will let them... but our future generations deserve better. Please 'Remember in November' and vote for a team of more fiscally conservative politicians. It's time for the old status quo folks like Libby Mitchell and Eliot Cutler to step aside and let the conservatives start rebuilding Maine's economy.
Maine deserves more than the 'status quo' approach
Great rally for our hospitals! It's time for major changes in how our so-called state leaders have been running Augusta and wasting countless tax dollars. Libby and Eliot represent the status quo approach while Paul LePage is the only real fiscal conservative running for the Blaine House. We don't need another fake but polished governor, we need someone with a strong spine who is willing to get the job done... and Paul LePage can do just that. Our kids and other future generations deserve better than what the extreme liberals have been doing to our state... read the facts about Paul LePage’s plan at http://www.lepage2010.com
We should thank Libby Mitchell for this top ranking
This top ranking has been brought to the State of Maine by Libby Mitchell and all of her fellow Extreme Far-Left politician friends... and some people think she's qualified to be our next Governor. It's time for Maine's welfare system to be gutted of the widespread fraud and abuse!
Libby is right
Although Libby is right about how the DECD and State Planning office have failed the taxpayers in countless ways, Sen. Mitchell will only make the situation worse by merging the two departments. It's time to start cutting the fat at the top of each department.
If you're sick & tired of the ongoing damage caused by the Left,

and become part of the solution. Remember in November!
The extreme Far-Lefties are running scared
and this so-called news story is a great example of this fact. 'We the People' are in the process of taking back our USA. Remember in November!
the largest problem seems to be with MEA and NEA
Mr. LePage has the best plan to resolve our educational issues. One of the largest problems with our educations system seems to fall directly on the leadership. To be specific, both the MEA and NEA have gone very political in support of the Far-Left agenda. Just imagine what could be done for improvements if they just focused on education versus the Far-Left’s agenda. In fact, just take a few minutes and review the major 2009 contributions for the PAC called “Citizens Unified for Maine's Future” posted at http://www.mainecampaignfinance.com/Public/entity_financial_transactions... ***Follow-the-Money and you will find the true problem.
'Race to the Top' but slide back to the bottom
Shame on the Baldacci Administration for not doing a better job with that appication. Read more of the facts about how we've just missed a golden opportunity for Maine's educational systems at
http://mainepolicy.org/5/media/237/Steve_Bowen__Testimony_on_Race_to_the...
The Far-Left certainly has an agenda for our school systems
but the kids will be the ones who really suffer from this missed opportunity. Don’t forget, the Far-Left leaders at MEA are also responsible for this failure... have we all had enough of their "change" yet?
deimos is right
but there is also another solution - cut the spending! We must cut the wasteful spending by those Extreme Far-Left running this state. Just look at the countless examples posted on www.MaineOpenGov.org
The extreme lefties are simply amazing
but it's nice to see they haven't given up on Libby yet.
another failing grade for the Baldacci Administration
Sad but true.
what are the chances
[This comment was removed by the administrator]
AARP should focus on members & stop playing political favorites
Since the AARP has primarily become another PAC with lots of money to support the Extreme Far-Left movement, who cares what they think? It's time for the old status quo mentality to be replaced by a strong and fiscally conservative approach. It's time for Paul LePage to be our next Governor. If you’re still in doubt, please read his website at http://www.lepage2010.com
Voting machines at the shelters
What are the chances this bill will also be used to get voting machines placed at the shelters?
It would be nice if the lies could be stopped
Madeleine, the only fake Paul LePage is that one being painted by Extreme Far-Lefties like Jonathan and tron.
Jonathan Albrecht is the real extremist in this case
Can you tell the Far-Left extremists are getting nervous about the fall elections? Although I do respect his rights under the First Amendment, the only real extremist in this case/LTTE is the author Jonathan Albrecht. In fact, if you do a simple Google search for his name and the word Maine, his association with groups like the infamous and ultra Far-Left 'Maine Can Do Better' is one of the first links - http://www.mainecandobetter.org/index.php?id=21
The Extreme Far-Lefties are clearly nervous that they are about to lose political power in the fall, but I truly hope most of the voters will recognize what they're doing. They are the true cancer that is destroying our quality of life in Maine. They are the true cancer that is sucking us deeper into a more socialist/communist state. They are the true extremists that must be defeated in November.
As for Paul LePage, please visit his website at http://www.lepage2010.com
- especially the position statements and informational videos. If you get to know the "real" Paul LePage, you will see that he is exactly what Maine taxpayers need right now.

Maine needs a strong fiscal conservative as Governor
Mr. Dwight and thinkingman have both nailed it! In light of our major economic problems in Maine, it's time for the Extreme Far-Lefties running this state to step aside and let some fiscal conservatives get us back on track. LePage for Governor!
Find the facts at http://www.lepage2010.com
It's time for deep & wide cuts
http://www.maineopengov.org has all of the answers for where deep cuts should be made, but we need some strong fiscal conservatives in Augusta to make those spending cuts. Remember in November!
** Paul LePage for Governor **
Great vote
We owe a big Thank You to our Senators for this vote against more unfunded spending by the Extreme Far-Lefties. Enough is enough!
Tardif sounds like a Far-Left Extremist
Mr. Tardif is entitled to maintain his Extreme Far-Left opinions, but it's good to know that most people realize what he's trying to do with these LTTEs. If you're not familiar with the reality of what Mr. LePage stands for, please take some time and visit his website at http://www.lepage2010.com - especially the position statements and informational videos. If you get to know the "real" Paul LePage, you will see that he is exactly what Maine taxpayers need right now.
** LePage for Governor 2010 **
http://www.lepage2010.com
Remember in November
It's nice to see so many of the Extreme Far-Lefties leaving their cozy nests in Augusta... we need to Remember in November and replace them with strong fiscal conservatives willing to help put Maine back-on-track and headed in a better direction.
Nothing but 100% word & accounting games
How can they claim a "balance sheet in the black" after the clueless voters have just approved ANOTHER $100 Million in debt/loans? The Extreme Far-Left leadership in Maine is destroying the quality of life for our future generations. Remember in November and be sure to vote for a strong fiscal conservative.
Get to know the real Paul LePage
The Extreme Far-Lefties like tron will destroy our state if we don't stop their games in November. In short, if you're not familiar with what Paul LePage stands for, please take a few minutes and simply visit his website at http://www.lepage2010.com - note the various position statements and informational videos. If you have questions/concerns, send him an email and see how he responds.
** LePage for Governor 2010 **
By the way
the topic of this letter is also an ongoing discussion at www.AsMaineGoes.com
The entitlement mentality
This is a great letter (and comments so far) that deserves some attention by our so-called state leaders in Augusta. Since the dollar plays a major role in this issue, especially those monies from special interest groups involved, we might want to take a close look at this root problem... and one of the largest "problem roots" seems to be located at http://www.mseaseiu.org
Since you've mentioned Richardson
How's that case coming along with the Attorney General's office? When will the names of those volunteers which broke the law get released?
Libby should retire from politics
Remember in November how Libby Mitchell was a strong supporter of pushing 102 new and/or higher taxes on Mainers with Question 1 (which was defeated, thank God). We must also remember that Libby Mitchell is part of the Exteme Far-Left establishment that has created our state's current economic fiasco and she represents the 'status quo' approach. We need a strong fiscal conservative running our state, but Libby will deserve a big "thank you" for her past service as she's walking out of Maine politics for good. Libby, it's time for you to retire.
Required Reading for the anti-gun nuts
They should all read “More Guns Mean Less Crime” posted at
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=37245
We all deserve to know the truth
Voisine is right, the tide is finally turning and it looks like Maine will have a chance to dig itself out of this current economic hole we're in. We need a strong fiscal conservative leading the charge and Paul LePage is the best candidate for that job.
In fact, if you're not familiar with what Paul LePage really stands for, please visit his website at http://www.lepage2010.com and review the position statements and informational videos. The Extreme Far-Lefties will destroy this state if we don't stop their games in November.

Tuesday's election is a Big Win for Maine taxpayers
What a great victory for Maine taxpayers whom have been beaten down by reckless and wasteful government spending over the past 10+ years. Paul LePage will be a great Governor for Maine, but more people to get to know the man first.
Please bookmark http://www.lepage2010.com
and take some time to review the great videos and position statements on that site. This will certainly be a small time investment that will reap large reward for you.
Plus, please remember-in-November that Libby Mitchell was a huge supporter of the 100+ proposed new taxes (Question 1) which were soundly defeated on Tuesday by We The People. Can you feel the positive momentum that's building here in Maine? Let's keep it moving us forward in a positive direction.
We owe a large Thank You to many groups

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY … Senator David Trahan, for leading this fight against higher taxes for Maine residents.
In addition; please remember in November that Paul LePage was also a HUGE supporter for this ‘Vote YES on 1’ effort while Libby “status quo” Mitchell supported the other pro-tax side.
Maine needs Paul LePage as our next Governor
Congratulations to the LePage campaign, but now the real work begins. While I’m sure you realize there will be no time for a summer vacation this year, it’s now time to reach out and spread your strong fiscally conservative message to all Maine voters. Paul LePage has what the State of Maine needs for our next Governor, but the Far-Left’s major political machine will be a force to contend with. They have proven union thug stereotype over the past ten years, but the Conservative Spirit is alive and growing. If you recognize that our state has been heading down a very dangerous road, please step up and support the LePage campaign in as many ways as you possibly can.
The time for positive change has arrived! Please get active and help implement our much-needed positive changes for Maine’s future generations. Please bookmark http://www.lepage2010.com and donate as much time and money as you can between now and November.
BTW, this is one investment we really need to make; else the Extreme Far-Lefties and their status quo desire will drag us even deeper into Socialism. Sad but 100% true.
** LePage for Governor 2010 **
Libby Mitchell supports Status Quo Downhill Slide
Libby 'status quo' Mitchell will keep dragging us Maine residents into the depths of higher taxes and stronger governmental control. Don't our kids deserve better than that? As you probably know, our State has major fiscal issues and we need to make some tough changes within Maine State Government.
With that said, our next leader will need a very strong backbone and Paul LePage has proven he has just that and more. Although nobody's perfect, Paul LePage has the experience and skills that we need for our next Governor.

Tea Party is alive and growing stronger
Although it seems obvious that a lot of the Far-Lefties might wish "A tea party tempest is losing steam in Maine," that is far from true... and today's election results should illustrate this fact.
Trust your gut feeling when you vote
The 'No on 1' ad campaign is full of blatant lies to scare and confuse Maine voters, but I hope you won't fall for their tricks and lies. Please remember: ‘Vote YES! on 1’ campaign to avoid raising 100+ Maine taxes.
BTW, please don’t be fooled by the wording. The actual wording for question #1 on the June 8th ballot is:
"Do you want to reject the new law that lowers Maine's income tax and replaces that revenue by making changes to the sales tax?"

for No Higher Taxes in Maine

Portland CVB agrees with the Tea Party
It was nice to see that the Greater Portland CVB has joined with the Tea Party's support in a new statement for the ‘Vote YES! on 1’ campaign to avoid higher Maine taxes.
BTW, please don’t be fooled by the wording. The actual wording for question #1 on the June 8th ballot is:
"Do you want to reject the new law that lowers Maine's income tax and replaces that revenue by making changes to the sales tax?"

Before you vote...
Before you vote next week on the numerous Bond issues and Question #1, please take a few minutes and review the careless/wasteful spending at
http://www.maineopengov.org
The extreme Far-Left is spending way more than we can afford and the debt is going to bury our future generations.
Enough is enough! Vote 'YES on #1' for No Higher Taxes and be sure to vote 'No' on all Bond issues.
Don't fall for the lies
Please Vote ‘YES! on 1’ to support the Peoples’ Veto of 100+ New/Higher Taxes from LD 1495... and PLEASE spread the word to help defeat the lies.
The list of 100+ New/Higher Maine Taxes is posted at http://voteyestoreject.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Vote-YES-to-Reject...
Vote 'YES on 1' to help Starve-The-Beast
Wow, you should read the last bullet point within “UNDER TAX REFORM” posted at
http://www.pressherald.com/news/reform-alters-way-income-tax-is-determin... - it illustrates how higher taxes from LD 1495 will be used To Make Government and their Far-Left partners Larger, Richer and More Powerful… hence, it’s no wonder Baldacci supports this piece of terrible legislation.
The Far-Left’s political machine needs to be defeated on June 8th! It’s time to Starve-The-Beast! Please
Vote ‘YES! on 1’
to support the Peoples’ Veto of 100+ New and/or Higher Maine Taxes from LD 1495.
Vote 'YES on #1' to avoid Higher Maine Taxes
LD 1495 was designed by the Far-Left's political machine to raise Maine taxes even higher, but the People's Veto campaign (vote 'YES on #1') is a chance for us to stop-this-madness. Please Vote ‘YES! on 1’ to support the Peoples’ Veto of 100+ New/Higher Taxes from LD 1495... and PLEASE spread the word to help defeat the lies.
BTW, just take a quick look at the list of New Taxes at http://voteyestoreject.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Vote-YES-to-Reject...
and you’ll see that most Mainers (not tourists) will get hit with the new/higher taxes of LD 1495. *** It's time for us to stop the lies and Take Back Maine. ***
The Democrat's platform is scary
As we all consider the numerous candidates running for the Blaine House, please make sure you also read the Democrat's scary platform. This platform for Maine Democrats touts Raising Taxes, More Regulation, Pro-Abortion campaigns and Bigger Government. Please read it for yourself at www.AsMaineGoes.com. Is that what you really want from our government? I hope not. We need a strong fiscal conservative in the Blaine House, which should be followed by a need for more fiscal conservatives in Maine's Senate and House... the wasteful spending needs to be stopped!
Was Sussman there too?
Did Chellie also have Mr. Sussman and his deep/liberal wallet with her?
Ignore all of the lies and false advertising
Don't be fooled by the blatant lies from people like cbaojia. Vote ‘YES! on 1’ to support the Peoples’ Veto of 100+ new/higher taxes with LD 1495. See the list for yourself at http://voteyestoreject.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Vote-YES-to-Reject...
and at http://www.mainetaxpayers.com/initiatives.html
LD 1495 is nothing but another tax increase from Augusta
By the way, have you noticed where some of their funding is coming from:
“Pingree associate brings $100,000”
at http://www.kjonline.com/news/pingree-associate-brings-_100000_2010-05-13...
In addition, since the question’s sneaky use of words does not reveal the 100+ new/higher taxes that are part of LD 1495, PLEASE don’t be fooled by the wording. The actual wording for question #1 on the June 8th ballot is:
"Do you want to reject the new law that lowers Maine's income tax and replaces that revenue by making changes to the sales tax?"
It's an absolute shame that the question does not explain how LD 1495 will-raise-taxes on 100+ goods/services, so most Mainers will-pay-more taxes under LD 1495. **Plus, in all fairness for Maine voters, the question should also explain how people will lose their ability to claim all of the major deductions like Mortgage Interest and Charitable Donations. This fact alone will make your taxable income Go Up to offset the lower income tax rate (which would have been a great idea if it was done alone).
LD 1495 is nothing but another “Financial Shell Game” by our extreme liberals in Augusta, but the People’s Veto is our only solution. Please Vote ‘YES! on 1’ to support the Peoples’ Veto of the LD 1495.
Vote Yes on #1 to avoid higher taxes in Maine
The pro-tax extreme liberals who support LD 1495 are up to their old tricks again. They have created an organization called 'No Higher Taxes for Maine' to intentionally confuse Maine voters – see http://www.nohighertaxes.com - but yet they support the massive tax increases with LD 1495. Please Vote ‘YES! on 1’ to support the Peoples’ Veto of the LD 1495 proposed tax increases. Don't fall for the lies being told in those stupid TV ads, because a 'No vote' does support higher taxes overall. See the facts at
http://voteyestoreject.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Vote-YES-to-Reject...
and at http://www.mainetaxpayers.com/initiatives.html
Vote 'YES on #1'
for No Higher/New Taxes in Maine.
It's time for some positive changes in Maine
In all fairness, all Maine voters should become informed about each candidate from both sides, as we have some very good people running for the Blaine House. However, voters should also read those Extreme concepts in the Democrats’ proposed platform (read it at www.AsMaineGoes.com) for Maine. Can you say higher taxes? Can you say more regulation? Can you say more government? Can you say higher taxes? We need a new Governor who will Cut Spending. Period.
anyone but Libby Mitchell
Libby is a typical Extreme Far-Lefty in Maine politics. Needless to say, our current laundry list of major state problems is a result of those extreme liberals running this state for too long. In fact, since the “Maine Dems 2010 proposed platform” is posted at http://www.asmainegoes.com, all Maine voters should take a very close look at this plan for Bigger Government-Higher Taxes-More Regulation. Our state and country are in fiscal turmoil but the extreme liberal democrats want to keep spending more money that doesn’t belong to them. Our future generations don’t deserve the mess that is currently being left for them. It’s time for a strong fiscally conservative push for our USA. It’s time to fire all of the extreme liberals and replace them with some strong fiscal conservatives.
Please get out and vote for anyone but Libby Mitchell on June 8th… and don’t forget to Vote ‘YES on #1’ for No Higher/New Taxes in Maine. God bless our USA.
Don't be fooled
se taxes on countless goods/services so people will end up paying more taxes.

The WSJ was wrong!
LD 1495 will end up costing Maine taxpayers more money in the end. This is another example of bad legislation coming from the extreme far left and it must get defeated. Please read the facts about LD 1495 at www.MaineTaxpayers.com and help support the Peoples' Veto at the June 8th election.
Since a large amount of our
Since a large amount of our “excise tax dollars” are actually being used to fund political campaigns (not road & bridge repairs), doesn’t this fact bother any of the liberals? Here are a few examples as proof:
1. http://www.memun.org/public/publications/townsman/2009/10-09.pdf - produced with 100% tax dollars
2. http://www.memun.org/public/MMA/svc/SFR/initiatives/default.htm - produced with 100% tax dollars
3. Massive donations by Maine Municipal Association (100% tax dollars) for groups like “Citizens Unified for Maine's Future” as reported at http://www.mainecampaignfinance.com/public/entity_summary.asp?TYPE=PAC&I...
Shame on those tax
Shame on those tax evaders... they aren't doing their part for the liberal agenda of Maine's Far Left. In case you haven't noticed, here's how it works in Maine. The political Far Left are running the State of Maine, and our local and state tax dollars have become a major part of their political machine:
1) Most of us are forced to pay taxes/fees to our state and local governments and various other unions/associations;
2) Through a variety of highly questionable and potentially illegal accounting games, a significant amount of these forced taxes/fees are then used to fund strong political activities/campaigns in support of the Far Left's agenda.
3) After these campaigns have been successful in keeping the Far Left candidates in office, or perhaps implementing a new entitlement program for the far Left, their political machine has done its job... hence, the cycle starts over again.
As a few recent examples here in Maine, just look at the political donations reported (and don't forget all of the non-reported donations) from groups like AFL-CIO, SEIU, ACORN, National Education Association and the powerful Maine Municipal Association - posted at:
http://www.mainecampaignfinance.com/public/entity_list_BQC.asp
Hmmmmmm, could these excise tax evaders be making a statement that they don't want their tax dollars to be used for political purposes? Are they speaking out against the one-sided and Far Left actions of our so-called "state leaders" in Augusta and our local governments?
IMO, these tax evaders actually deserve a standing ovation for their efforts against the crooked Left.
Rob has made a great point,
Rob has made a great point, and you can simply look at the State of Maine workforce for one large example of how it's being abused... at the taxpayers' expense.
Before they make specific
Before they make specific cuts in Education and DHHS, we need some major changes in how the Baldacci Administration has been "managing" the state workforce.
In particular; if you read the overly generous “ARTICLE 63. SICK LEAVE” (pages 57-59) of the state employee’s contract
(http://www.mseaseiu.org/forms/admin07-09.pdf),
you’ll find one large example of fraud/abuse/waste at the taxpayers’ expense. The cozy Baldacci-SEIU relationship needs to be terminated now!
IMO, state workers should receive a maximum of four (4) paid sick days per calendar year, period. In addition, the unused days should not be rolled over for the next year. There also needs to be some type of incentive program to reward state workers whom don't use all of their sick days, and we must stop the widespread abuse of the current system (e.g., using sick days as extra vacation days).
The political games and BS with our tax dollars must be stopped, but that would require an administrative team which has a spine... or a pro-active voter base.
Are you ready for some positive change yet? Find the solution at
www.MaineTaxpayers.com
It will be interesting to
It will be interesting to see what kind of lies and scare tactics the Far Left will try to use against this campaign... it is indeed time for the concerned taxpayers to stand up and voice their frustrations with our so-called state leaders.

Gil is 100% right and his
Gil is 100% right and his experience is happening to countless taxpayers around all around the state of Maine... and this is nothing but a major political game that is wasting a HUGE amount of tax dollars to promote the Far Left's agenda. As one example, just take a quick look at the following four (4) URLs created and promoted by the Far Left's Maine Municipal Association (MMA):
RE: ‘No on Q.2’:
1) http://www.memun.org/public/MMA/svc/SFR/initiatives/excise.htm
2) http://www.memun.org/public/MMA/svc/SFR/initiatives/excise/Advocacy/reso...
RE: ‘No on Q.4’:
1) http://www.memun.org/public/MMA/svc/SFR/initiatives/TABOR.htm
2) http://www.memun.org/public/MMA/svc/SFR/initiatives/TABOR/advocacy/resol...
As one more example, just take a look at the so-called "union" website for SEIU Local 1989 at http://www.mseaseiu.org.
In both examples, a HUGE amount of our tax dollars are being used to promote the Far Left's political agenda, and this-is-wrong! However, as they say, Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes. If 'we the people' are truly sick-and-tired of the status quo in our state and local governments, we must take action on Tuesday. By voting YES on Q.2 and YES on Q.4, we will start turning this mess around. If the Far Left is victorious on either issue, the status quo will continue and things will get worse.

Now what do you think? It's time for one major investigation!
This deserves a close look,
This deserves a close look, but the AG will do anything to protect her fellow liberals. The corruption within the State of Maine must get exposed, and it's only a matter of time before that happens. As they say, "the rats are running scared" but we need to catch them. Please call the AG's office today and demand an investigation of this matter:

While they're at it, I hope they also investigate the massive in-kind political donations coming from liberal organizations like MEA, SEIU Local 1989, Maine Municipal Association, AFL-CIO of Maine, Maine People's Alliance, and so many more.

Is Libby Mitchell 100% clueless, or what? If "Maine entitlements" aren't bad enough already, if passed, this proposal would surely push it over the top... God help us Maine taxpayers not living off the governmental dole. These liberals need to be replaced before they completely destroy our state and country.

Robert61 and the Editorial
Robert61 and the Editorial Board are 100% right on this one, as We The People of Maine deserve better! True tax reform will only come if we break the status quo mentality in both Augusta and throughout many town offices around Maine... so, please vote on November 3rd and remember three importanr things:
1) Vote YES on Q.2! (lowers the Excise Tax)
2) Vote YES on Q.4! (TABOR NOW will reduce governmental power in Maine)
3) Get active and help us fix the Maine mess!

The lopsided political
The lopsided political machine has broken Maine government for us, but the political puppet masters are benefitting from what they have created... but it's now time for us to cut the puppet strings and fix this mess!
In order to do that, people need to know the truth about TABOR. For example, why didn’t this "newspaper" cover more of the facts from yesterday's important news conference?
RELEASE: Colorado's TABOR Expert Sets the Record Straight
University of Colorado Economist Debunks Opponents' False Claims
(posted at http://www.tabornow.com/news/58/27/d,News).
In addition, the TABOR NOW Chairman (David Crocker) has hit the nail on the head in his Blog titled "Citizens Unified for Maine's Future and the SEIU's Future"
(posted at http://www.tabornow.com/blog/28/Citizens-Unified-for-Maine-s-Future-and-...). The roots of Maine's current political machine run deep and groups like SEIU and ACORN are using taxpayer dollars to push their agenda. These political games must be stopped!
Maine taxpayers deserve real tax reform, but the pro-socialism and wasteful Far Left crowds would prefer to stick with the status quo in Augusta.
Hence, please get out and vote on November 3rd. We can improve our current mess within Maine State Government, and these positive changes can begin with two simple votes:
YES on Q.2!
YES on Q.4!
This is our chance to install positive change.

The only thing Obama
The only thing Obama deserves right now is to be impeached. God bless our USA.
Our state leaders have
Our state leaders have failed Maine taxpayers for too long, and it's time for a positive change with TABOR NOW! It's time for us to cut the roots of this cancerous government that's growing with no regard to how it will be paid for by our children and their children. As they say; if you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem! THE SOLUTION: Get out and vote on Nov. 3rd:
YES on Q.2! & YES on Q.4!
If our so-called state
If our so-called state leaders did a better job managing the budget, and stop wasting so many tax dollars, this wouldn't have to happen. Hence, all the more reason to get out and vote on Nov. 3rd:
YES on Q.2! & YES on Q.4!
It's time for some true tax reform in Maine. www.MaineTaxpayers.com
C-Span is probably the best
C-Span is probably the best way to go, because it's obvious the major networks (CBS, NBC and ABC) are even more corrupt and slanted than FOX.
What a great example of
What a great example of ACORN- and Chicago-style politics at work in Maine. The Far Left liberals have gone too far this time, and it's time for Maine to implement a law that would not allow jailbirds to vote. What will they think of next?
Since Deborah Hutton is
Since Deborah Hutton is married to a man who has spent the last 20 years working for the pro-tax union/PAC called SEIU Local 1989 (Tim Belcher), has she taken this action to protect her husband's organization? Just take a few minutes to review their VERY political website pages at
http://www.mseaseiu.org/Story91.html and http://www.mseaseiu.org.
The public deserves to have more transparency on both sides of important issues like this, but people like Deb Hutton are clearly on the pro-tax and pro-socialism side of the aisle. IMO, the best solution for our Maine tax problems is to cut government spending. In order to do that, we need to Vote YES on Q.2! (lowers the Excise Tax) & Vote YES on Q.4! (TABOR NOW to reduce governmental power in Maine).
Enough is enough with this
Enough is enough with this push by liberals for higher taxes - we must cut spending at all levels of government and the private sector do what they're supposed to do. Despite what the liberals say, more Socialism is not what our USA needs!
What are the chances that
What are the chances that this so-called "public forum" will be another one-sided pro-socialism speech from the greedy Far Left? If you would like to review more than 2,000,000,000 reasons why Maine spending should be cut, and why TABOR NOW should get passed, please take a few minutes and look at the '2009 Maine Piglet Book' - it's posted at
http://www.mainepolicy.org/library/resources/203.pdf
and plenty of additional facts are available at
www.MaineOpenGov.org
Our Maine governments have become too big, too expensive and too powerful! 'We The People' need to regain control before it's too late and our kids have to pay the price with even less freedoms and higher taxes.
We do indeed need more open
We do indeed need more open government, and the newly published '2009 Maine Piglet Book' illustrates "More than $2,000,000,000 in wasteful government spending" and is a great read for all Maine taxpayers. You can now read it online at
http://www.mainepolicy.org/library/resources/203.pdf
and it's time for both sides of the political aisle to clean up their act! While it's obvious that nobody is perfect, our Maine state government is full of waste and corruption that must be addressed. It won't be an easy or enjoyable task, but it must-get-done.
While our state revenues
While our state revenues continue on this downward spiral, our so-called state leaders are still wasting countless taxpayer dollars in a variety of ways. Since the '2009 Maine Piglet Book' is now hot off the press, it illustrates "More than $2,000,000,000 in wasteful government spending" and is a great read for all Maine taxpayers. It's now posted online at the MHPC website,
http://www.mainepolicy.org/library/resources/203.pdf
Since revenue will continue to be down, and our state is spending more than it should, don't you think it's time for some spending cuts in Augusta?
Since the "2009 Maine Piglet
Since the "2009 Maine Piglet Book" is now hot off the press and it illustrates "More than $2,000,000,000 in wasteful government spending" by Maine, isn't it time for some major spending cuts within Maine State Government?

Tony's 100% right, and I
Tony's 100% right, and I sincerely hope the schools do not get closed early! In fact, here are a few alternative ideas for how we can solve our current fiscal crisis in Maine:
1) Get active in the politics which shape our USA;
2) Pass TABOR NOW, http://www.tabornow.com;
3) Cut Excise Taxes, http://www.moregreennow.com;
4) Defeat the so-called “tax reform” by Maine’s liberal democrats, LD 1495, http://www.stillfedupwithtaxes.net;
5) Keep a close eye on all of the wasteful spending within Maine State Government, http://www.maineopengov.org;
6) Get active with a growing grassroots effort in Maine to “Reduce our state and local tax burden and promote prudent government spending,” http://www.mainetaxpayers.com;
7) Read our Constitution of the United States of America, http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.overview.html;
8) Keep a close eye on what Far Left pro-socialism groups like ACORN and SEIU are doing, http://www.acorn.org and http://www.seiu.org;
9) Elect a new Governor for Maine who knows how to run a business with a limited budget (i.e., Mayor Paul LePage from Waterville);
10) GET ACTIVE and know that your voice really does count!
Let's keep the schools open and cut spending in other areas like government waste!
Mayor Paul LePage seems to
Mayor Paul LePage seems to bring a lot of good business experience into Governor's race, and he's clearly able to make some tough decisions when needed. I look forward to learning more about Mayor LePage and the other candidates over the next year.
While this lawsuit sounds
While this lawsuit sounds like a good idea for all of our honest and hardworking state employees, the same workers might want to file a second case against their so-called union itself. The membership of that "union" deserves better, whether they are voluntary members or victims of the Forced Unionism agreement signed by Governor Baldacci.
From an array of highly questionable accounting practices, which is linked to the now infamous ACORN group, to the poor contract terms received this year, it seems obvious that members of this SEIU Local 1989 Chapter are being used as political puppets for their votes and financial contributions. How fair is that?
Hence, this one issue of longevity pay seems to be the tip of an iceberg that's worthy of a Federal investigation... but the political cards in Maine are currently stacked against the truth being told. It's a sad fact, but 100% true.
Since the ACORN roots are
Since the ACORN roots are already here in Maine, and actually run deep within State Government, I believe this "newspaper" should do some investigative reporting and help expose the local involvement and corruption. The facts are the facts, and it’s time for us to resolve this problem.
For example, some of the Maine connections listed on ACORN’s web page called “Support From Organizations” (http://www.acorn.org/index.php?id=17853)
include the following organizations:
1. SEIU (which is VERY deep within our State Government & more, http://www.mseaseiu.org);
2. Maine People’s Alliance;
3. AFL-CIO;
4. AFSCME;
5. National Education Association;
6. United Federation of Teachers'
7. ACLU;
8. Campaign for America’s Future;
9. and even the Sierra Club.
Do you know anyone who supports or belongs to any of the above-listed groups?
As we can see, ACORN has developed a major network throughout both Maine and our USA... but I believe it's time for some of those roots to get clipped before our USA gets more damaged.
Do you agree? If yes, what are you going to do to help bring about some positive change? It's time to resolve this mess which involves both sides of the political aisle.
It's nice to see that this
It's nice to see that this side of the media has finally decided to inform people about what's been happening with ACORN for more than a week now... especially since the ACORN "roots" already stretch deep into Maine politics and many aspects of life here.
In case you don't already know, some of the Maine connections per ACORN’s “Support From Organizations” list
(http://www.acorn.org/index.php?id=17853)
include the following organizations:
1. SEIU (which is VERY deep within our State Government & more, http://www.mseaseiu.org);
2. Maine People’s Alliance;
3. AFL-CIO;
4. AFSCME;
5. National Education Association;
6. United Federation of Teachers'
7. ACLU;
8. Campaign for America’s Future;
9. and even the Sierra Club.
Do you know anyone who supports or belongs to any of the above-listed groups? As you can tell, ACORN has developed a major network throughout both Maine and our USA... and their staff have now been caught doing corrupt actions like these recent examples:
a) ACORN in San Bernardino, CA:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s8w9GEpSzw&feature=player_embedded#t=237
b) ACORN in New York City, NY:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrpRGZq7Z-U&feature=player_embedded
c) ACORN in Baltimore, MD:

d) ACORN in Washington, DC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVDi7SH0ofo
e) ACORN San Diego, CA:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkj_OqfXypQ
Needless to say, IMO, we don’t need more corruption like this in Maine. Since some media outlets seem to be camping with the Far Left activists, I encourage folks to keep an eye on what’s happening via two good websites - http://acornwatch.org & http://biggovernment.com.
Is this the kind of change you’ve been waiting for? I hope not, and it’s up to us to clip the roots before it gets even worse here in Maine…but please know, it is already here!
Now, for the most important question, how do we get rid of this cancerous problem before it does more harm to our state and country!

It sounds like Maine is now
It sounds like Maine is now ready to support positive economic changes, and here’s a simple list of how we can do just that over the next year:
1. Pass TABOR NOW, http://www.tabornow.com
2. Cut Excise Taxes, http://www.moregreennow.com
3. Defeat the so-called “tax reform” by Maine’s liberal democrats, LD 1495, http://www.stillfedupwithtaxes.net

While I appreciate your
While I appreciate your suggestion, who oversees the Ethics Commission? When you have a corrupt system do you really think the system administrator will be fair and impartial? In reality, what we need is for the Fed's to come look under some rocks and complete some Procedural Audits within select departments of our Maine State Government, MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 and the SEIU Headquarters...and then some of the real dirty truths would get exposed...We The People deserve better than these political games that are wasting our tax dollars. Follow the money...it leads to the truth!
Maine State Government has
Maine State Government has proven they don't seem to understand the concept of either "full disclosure" or "accountability" in today's world, and especially when related for the liberals. It's time for more accountability on both sides of the aisle!
For example, just look at the massive political support and contributions which have come from MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 over the past eight (8) years. If you take a close look at their actions, especially since Governor Baldacci captured the Blaine House, you will also find some very inappropriate uses of our Maine tax dollars. If you would like to see some proof, just look at their newsletters or website (www.mseaseiu.org) and compare those work efforts with their laughable accounting records… little/no detailed accountability! How long are the Maine taxpayers going to tolerate this crap?
In addition, since the parent union/PAC has proven ties with the now infamous ACORN group (e.g., "Unions gave ACORN nearly $10 million" at http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Uni...), the roots for that network run deep in Maine and they go directly into SEIU Local 1989 (Maine State Employees Assoc).
We need more accountability and full disclosure on both sides of the aisle, and the only way to do that is through a targeted Procedural Audit at organizations like MSEA-SEIU Local 1989. It won't be a fun job, but Maine taxpayers deserve the truth and it's time for crooked organizations to pay for all of their bad actions.
However, if the LSJ is willing to do some good old fashioned investigative reporting at that so-called local SEIU union, I will tell them which rocks to look under. It's time for these political games to stop hurting the Maine taxpayers - enough is enough!
What about the massive
What about the massive political contributions which come from MSEA-SEIU Local 1989? If you look at their actions, especially since Governor Baldacci captured the Blaine House, you will also discover some very inappropriate uses of our Maine tax dollars. How long are the Maine taxpayers going to tolerate this crap? The ACORN roots are running pretty deep in Maine, and they go directly into this local chapter for SEIU…and a Procedural Audit will surely expose the dirty truth.
We need deeper and wider
We need deeper and wider cuts within state government, and they should start by killing the failing program called Dirigo Health. Sorry Gov, but your little pet project has already wasted too many of our hard earned tax dollars.
Susan nailed it with that
Susan nailed it with that letter, but it's unfortunate the liberals just don't get it... and that ACORN seems determined to ruin our USA.
There is another option from
There is another option from gas tax or potholes, and it's called better management and less wasteful spending. Can't we give that a try for a change?
We need reform, but a
We need reform, but a government run health care program will surely fail... just like what Dirigo has done, which was discussed in last Friday's WSJ article called "No Maine Miracle Cure - Another state 'public option' that failed" and is posted at

Don't our elected officials recognize Dirigo as a failure? If not, how low must that program go before they see that fact? Just look at the crazy spending by Dirigo at www.MaineOpenGov.org,
and you'll see countless examples of poor management IMO.

Most of the fear and lies
Most of the fear and lies are coming from the Far Left, not the Right. If we take a realistic look at what two major political organizations are doing, ACORN and SEIU, I believe many of our current state and federal problems can be associated with their activities. For example, here are four (4) items and the related website for your review:
1. Playbook of Dirty Tricks: http://nygoe.wordpress.com/2009/08/06/seiu-front-group-declares-war-on-t...
2. The “Muscle for Money” program funded by SEIU: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Uni...
3. ACORN’s “Muscle for Money” does the bidding of SEIU: http://www.sfexaminer.com/opinion/ACORNs-Muscle-for-Money-does-the-biddi...
4. ACORN Covering Up SEIU Ties?: http://spectator.org/blog/2009/04/22/acorn-covering-up-seiu-ties
Since groups like ACORN and SEIU are out doing these things, does it really surprise anyone we have so much fear and civil disobedience at some of these meetings?
Mr. Albrecht, Do you believe
Mr. Albrecht, Do you believe Socialism would be good for our USA?
Our State of Maine
Our State of Maine Government has grown to become far too big and expensive, but that seems to be the goal of the liberal politicians and their buddies at SEIU/ACORN whom are pushing this downward spiral toward Socialism. If you're sick and tired of what's happening, stand up and let your voice be heard...remember, the government works for us!
Mr. Albrecht has stated, "If
Mr. Albrecht has stated, "If you are not a member of a union you are being screwed. Simple." While I respect your right to hold that opinion, if said union is using 100% inaccurate accounting practices in the determination of their dues/fees structure, aren't the union members actually the ones getting screwed by their greedy union bosses? A good local example is MSEA-SEIU Local 1989, and all of the 12,000+ people they're supposed to represent...and a Procedural Audit would prove this is a fact. Don't forget to Vote NO on the terrible new contract, and it's time to sever the relationship with SEIU and get a more qualified leadership team to run this union.
Mary Ann is right about some
Mary Ann is right about some unions being good for their members, but she has failed to mention that many of today's so-called unions do little more than serve as a PAC (political action committee) for their puppet masters within the democrat party and/or primary union. A perfect local example of this is the MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 which is based in Augusta and has enjoyed a very cozy relationship with Governor Baldacci over the past 6+ years. If a procedural audit was completed at that organization, the membership would discover an overall lack of accountability and an inaccurate process for determining the amount of dues and/or the so-called "fair share fee" as mandated by Governor Baldacci. The "buddy network" is alive and well in the current union-government relationship of Maine State Government, but at the taxpayers' expense!

In fact, the SEIU front group has even created a playbook with their dirty tricks for events just like this one, and it’s posted at

Based on some of the above
Based on some of the above comments, ACORN is certainly alive in Maine...God help us!
Why is our Governor allowed
Why is our Governor allowed to lie like that?
Great letter Wayne, but it's
Great letter Wayne, but it's unfortunate we have so many pro-ACORN people in Maine. All they know how to do is spread lies and drag us deeper into Socialism. It's time for the concerned taxpayers to stand-up and protect our rights and freedoms. Here are three great organizations that are working hard for the non-ACORN folks of Maine:

We The People deserve more accountability from our governments, and it's truly time for some positive change!

Mr. DiMillo is doing a great
Mr. DiMillo is doing a great service for us Maine taxpayers, and we should all take notice of these facts. Our state government has proven they have no desire to reduce their wasteful spending, and this so-called "tax reform" will indeed make us all pay more in taxes if we look at the big picture. However, in light of the current campaign for another People's Veto, it's great to see more taxpayers are getting active and taking a stand to fix our problems with fiscal management in Augusta. In addition, the other two campaigns to cut taxes need to get passed at the November ballot. If we Cut Excise Taxes and approve TABOR NOW, we will all benefit from true tax reform. IMO, it's time for the shell games to stop!
How does Nicole have a right
How does Nicole have a right to claim "Health-care reform must cover immigrants, regardless of their documentation status."
Wrong! IMO, the countless illegal aliens in our USA have no right to either free health insurance or healthcare. Since they came here in an illegal fashion, I wish we could start rounding them up and sending them back home. If they come back in a legal manner, IMO, we should embrace and assist them as much as we can. Our current status as a major nanny state must be addressed, and then we might just be able to start solving some of our other issues. The illegals must go!

No tron, I never joined the ACORN School of Reading & Writing. How about you?
Very true Michael, but
Very true Michael, but Obama's happy because it took the spotlight off his terrible plan for ObamaCare...and the public's opinion of him keeps going down! It's nice to see people are beginning to realize he can't meet his grandiose campaign promises.
In light of their comments,
In light of their comments, it seems that both Barack Hussein Obama and Prof. Gates are racists. Let's hope tonight is indeed a "teachable moment" for them.
Has anyone heard if our DC
Has anyone heard if our DC delegates will be holding any "town hall meetings" on ObamaCare while they're home for late summer? We need more details on the plan!
We need to axe-this-tax
We need to axe-this-tax before it hurts most Mainers. If you're sick and tired of the status quo politics in Maine, I urge you to get active and help implement some positive change.

Rep. Bolduc has clearly been
Rep. Bolduc has clearly been drinking the ObamaCare kool-aid and doesn't seem to care about the facts. Yes, we clearly need to reform our health insurance industry. Since ObamaCare would put the government in charge of health-related decisions for our loved ones, we cannot let that happen. In addition, there is no reason why tax dollars should be used to give illegal aliens free healthcare. They should all get arrested and shipped home! While Obama might believe abortion is a good thing, he has no right to steal my tax dollars and use them for such a sinful act. Shame on Obama and all of his liberal buddies! Lookout, here comes the ACORN crowd...
Since Governor Baldacci has
Since Governor Baldacci has launched an investigation and audit for this case, I wonder why he's still avoiding a major concern right in his own backyard. Since his past campaign buddies over at the Maine State Employees Association (MSEA-SEIU Local 1989) and their parent union/PAC (SEIU) seem to have been using some very questionable accounting practices for their "fee calculations", we should ask ourselves if the Governor is avoiding this major problem as some form of payback for his union/PAC buddies?
While this Canadian problem certainly deserves a thorough review, since this MSEA-SEIU issue also involves a significant amount of taxpayer dollars, their highly questionable accounting practices deserve a procedural audit. Mr. Governor, it's time to end this expensive political game with your buddies.
Well that's too bad, because
Well that's too bad, because all government folks should be the first to convert off from their overly expensive Cadillac plans... but we know the unions/PACs won't allow that to happen...just ask MSEA-SEIU in Augusta.
There is no good reason why
There is no good reason why our tax dollars should be used to fund abortions or to give free healthcare to illegal aliens. While I believe we need major health reform, IMO, those two elements must get removed from ObamaCare.
It's a shame that Rep. Paul
It's a shame that Rep. Paul E. Gilbert has fallen for the lies being told by certain union/PAC bosses, but they do have some pretty powerful kool-aid if you're foolish enough to drink it. The EFCA should have been called the Employee Forced Choice Act, because it's nothing but a push toward socialism. If the EFCA gets passed, it will give more political power and forced union dues/money to certain PAC/union bosses and their crooked politician friends. The honest and hard working employees will be pushed aside after they have your vote and your money. Don't fall for this trick! If you would like to see some proof of how bad Forced Unionism has already become in our USA, including here in Maine, watch a few videos at www.youtube.com/righttowork and/or read a free book called 'Stranglehold: How union bosses have hijacked our government'. Order your free copy at www.nrtw.org/en/stranglehold-0 or call 800-336-3600. Don't listen to ACORN!
Tron, just wondering if
Tron, just wondering if you're a member of Maine's ACORN group?
If you look at who's behind
If you look at who's behind the leading Maine supporters, the so-called "Consumers for Affordable Health Care" group, they have a vested interest in pushing ObamaCare through. Just look at their website, www.mainecahc.org/coalition/memberlist.htm, and you will find a Top-10 list of the Who's Who from the Far Left special interest groups. Can you say ACORN? Please don't fall for their tricks, because we need to do healthcare reform the right way. Unfortunately, they don't see it that way.
While I believe we do need
While I believe we do need major reform in our healthcare system, I hope people will realize who's behind the so-called "Consumers for Affordable Health Care" group. Look out for the ACORN nuts, as they will surely challenge this fact.
Can you imagine how much
Can you imagine how much better life in Maine would be if our state leaders took action against all of the illegal aliens here? They are wasting our valuable Maine resources which should be going to Mainers, not illegals!
Let's round them up & ship them out!

The word of the day is cuts,
The word of the day is cuts, and this word should be spread wide and deep throughout the Baldacci Administration. It's time for some real change in Augusta.
There are two big reasons
There are two big reasons why the current version of ObamaCare should not get rushed through the review process. They are:
1) ObamaCare will provide free health care for illegal aliens.
2) ObamaCare will use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions.
Although there are also countless other unanswered questions and concerns with ObamaCare, there is no reason to rush on this important issue. We need major health care reform, but ObamaCare would send us in the wrong direction.
As this story illustrates,
As this story illustrates, the liberals and their special interest groups are planning a rally in Portland for this Saturday (July 18th, from 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM in Monument Square). In fact, you’ve probably seen some of these liberal groups at other pro-tax events as well - MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 (state workers and more), SEIU Change that Works, Health Care for America Now, Maine People's Alliance, the League of Young Voters, and AFSCME (www.mseaseiu.org/Story48.html & http://action.seiu.org/page/s/healthandjustice).
Since it appears that some of these pro-tax groups are even using our taxpayer dollars to organize this and other similar events (e.g., SEIU and MSEA-SEIU 1989), it’s time for these inappropriate actions to be challenged. This is nothing but another political stunt at the taxpayers’ expense. If passed, the so-called “free” healthcare will be anything but free for most American taxpayers.
In light of the information we've heard so far, ObamaCare is a bad idea that will surely result in higher taxes and no solution for the real problem - the out-of-control costs for healthcare. As taxpaying Americans, we deserve to know all of the facts before ObamaCare gets forced down our throats. Don’t forget, We The People do have a say in how in how our USA should be run. It’s time to voice your concern.
If you’re sick and tired of the negative direction we’re headed in, please join the peaceful Counter Rally at 1:00 PM in Monument Square.

See you at the Counter Rally!

What a joke, "Too early to
What a joke, "Too early to judge FairPoint." How can you possibly give a headline like that when the current level of service is so bad? This is not a test run for the company, they took this challenge on and have failed so far. Thank god we have other good options now for cellular service and Internet.
We need someone like
We need someone like Waterville Mayor Paul LePage to step into the Blaine House and help put our state back on track and going in a better direction. The Far Left has destroyed Maine, and it's time for We The People to take it back. It's time for all of our jellyfish-like state leaders to swim away for good.
Although it's good to know
Although it's good to know the occupants are safe, was a state plane he was flying?
Hello Mr. Baldacci, are you
Hello Mr. Baldacci, are you awake in there yet? You can't keep ignoring the real problems within Maine State Government; it's just too big and expensive. It's time for some major cuts in programs and related job positions. It's time to cut!
If you recognize this problem and are will to help implement positive change within our state government, please join Maine Taxpayers United at www.MaineTaxpayers.com, and now on Facebook. We are a grassroots organization with a good mission: "To reduce the Maine tax burden and promote prudent government spending." It's time for action in Maine.
Mr. Jones is right, and it
Mr. Jones is right, and it has become very clear that Barack Hussein Obama is dragging us toward Socialism and Communism. While the liberals probably like what he's doing, I believe he's destroying the USA.
It's sad that the MSEA-SEIU
It's sad that the MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 PAC/union has made out like a bandit this year, while the people they're supposed to represent are getting hosed in a big way. That union/PAC was able to use their membership to get the current democrats into position, and Gov. Baldacci rewarded his friendly union/PAC by imposing Forced Unionism (a.k.a., "UnFairShare Fees") on all state workers...despite the fact that the union/PAC has even used inaccurate accounting practices in determining that fee.
In fact, it's time for the FBI to get involved, and I'm sure a lot of people could point them in the right direction to stop-the-corruption. The honest state workers and all Maine taxpayers deserve better than this!
Meanwhile, here's a "fat & happy" partial list of the 2008 total compensation packages for the staff at MSEA-SEIU Local 1989:
$96,782 = Timothy Belcher as Executive Director //
$89,144 = Mary Anne Turowski as Political Director //
$82,617 = Steven J Butterfield as Director, Information Ser //
$25,487 = Steven J Butterfield II as Field Representative
(He’s now a State Legislator who sits on the Labor Committee) //
$80,920 = Michael Sylvester as Director, Organizing //
$79,507 = Rodney Hiltz as Director, Field Services //
$77,577 = Roberta de Araujo as Legal Counsel //
$74,489 = C. Patrick Reardon as Field Representative //

There is a solution for
There is a solution for their so-called tax reform (a.k.a., LD 1495), and it's called the People's Veto. The petitions are now beginning to circulate, and We The People can defeat/reject this overall tax increase. Don't forget, We The People are supposed to run this state/country, despite what the greedy and crooked politicians want to believe.
While the reduced income tax is a great idea, that does not justify the major expansion in sales tax and lost exemptions. We taxpayers are going to pay more in the end, and that just isn't right. When will our legislators realize we need major spending cuts in state government? This should be done by reducing the amount of wasteful programs and all of the related state jobs. It’s time for these wasteful political games with our tax dollars to stop!
It won't be easy, but it has to be done! If you believe the state should cut spending, come join the solution at Maine Taxpayers United, www.MaineTaxpayers.com

It's true; our country does
It's true; our country does have some major problems within the insurance industry. We have great healthcare options, but it’s far too expensive for many of us. However, it’s important for people to know who’s leading the local protests about healthcare - Maine People’s Alliance.
If you look at their list of “Allies and Partners” at www.mainepeoplesalliance.org,
