It is disconcerting that the town is so worried about the small percentage of misuse of the transfer station and want to do inspections and 'snooping' around the house, but they do not do anything in regards to other code inforcing.. about junk yards in peoples backyards, unsafe dwellings, trash out on the lawn at all times downtown. What are the code enforcement officer doing?

With this state having a

With this state having a growing population of Somali's and other people of color, Indian's, etc, it would have been very wonderful that the new Governor went to a MLK event and talk about acceptance. I work in Lewiston and hear almost daily people referring to Somali's basically as no better than rats. They do not understand that they escaping horrors in their own land, but people jealous that they "live on the state" and "have better cell phones them 'Americans.'" We as a state, which didn't have a very large population of African-Americans, and now Africans, Indians, Pakistanis', etc we need to teach tolerance, and that is what the Governor of Maine should have been teaching yesterday. Not ignorance.

Parents & Students need to think about the bill b4 school starts

Parents and college students are not being informed of the final cost of education. When you receive your bill, it looks okay, $5k a year for example in stafford, and it lists them all out. What isn't give is Principle and interest, compounded by the estimated term times a 4. They graduate with what they thought would be a do-able $200 a month and can owe up to $1k a month. I was lucky, I went to UMF and only owed $15k total including interest, I pay $90 bucks a month. A relative who is in Med School will owe $200K in undergrad, and 75k a year for 4 years of Med School--not including 9% interest because there is no federal loans for advanced degrees. We estimate that for the 30 year term it will be $3500-$5000 per month in student loan payments. Even a 40K a year student loan times 4 will be over could be almost $1000 a month at least in student loan payments. Is a liberal arts degree worth that? Even a tech degree would start at 40-60k a year. Parents and students need to THINK ABOUT THEIR BILL rather than the location of the school, how much fun they could have.. 4 years of fun isn't work 10-30 years of no fun due to student loan obligations. With colleges like the for profits, Kaplan in Lewiston Phoenix.. even CMCC which isn't for-profit but how good is the education that these three schools when you are not being instructed by professors knowledgeable in the subject? My brother is at CMCC and I find the topics, homework, discussions and text books 10th grade material. Its college. It is suppose to teach you to think and analyze not regurgitate material like high school where so many of the instructors are from. Is their education worth it? This country needs to encourage institutes of higher learning to decrease costs, promote grants with their endowments, not just built larger and larger buildings because you receive money from the feds from loans. Also to help this country excel and grow in the future we need federal loans and grants for advanced degrees. Not just allow those that want Masters and Doctorates, and M.D's to be drowning in debt.

I can say as a voter in the

I can say as a voter in the town of Jay, that I cannot vote for a proposal for a school consolidation with Jay paying 71% of the cost but not having a majority of the school board vote. With the current proposal we are going to let L/LF run Jay students when their town's schools are some of the worse in the state? To me, it doesn't matter that Livermore and Livermore Falls has a higher population.. Jay has the money. Money pays for books and teachers, and labs. Jay has run its school very well considering the issues faced with declining population. Most people you talk to, both Jay and Livermore residents agree that Jay should have more votes than the other two towns because we have the money. Apparently only the Consolidation Board doesn't believe that.

Thank you Mike for your comment and no vote.
