Actually....

...the place where the Life-Flight helicopter landed was in the Lutheran Church parking lot at the beginning of Buckfield Road in Paris.

Such a horrible accident. We're hoping Dillon and everyone involved pulls through!

What we're witnessing is

a non-financial transaction between the town of Paris and a private cemetery owner. So disgraceful! Ted Kurtz of the Paris Selectboard and Phil Tarr the town manager are gung-ho in giving this public land to the cemetery association, so the association can make more money in the future (they've run out of plots and without more land, they can't make future income!). Warped capitalism at it's finest! Not only are these two clowns ignoring what Alice Cromwell put in place for Paris residents before her death, but they believe it's up to the town of Paris to do all the legal work (expensive!) for the cemetery association to boot. Yesiree, if you want a piece of free public land to put up an ice cream stand so you can make future income, don't worry: you won't have to pay a dime in legal fees or for the land itself: PARIS TAX MONEY WILL PAY IT ALL FOR YOU! TAH-DAH!

Ted Kurtz said that the cemetery association needs that extra land to be able to maintain the current cemetery. Ummmmm, really? You mean to tell me it's too expensive for them to rake and run a lawnmower around each plot? A citizen pointed out that the cemetery looks terrible which means it's not being maintained NOW. What if the next dead person to be buried on public land ends up being 11 years from now? Does that mean this cemetery association won't be maintaining the grounds during that time?

What a crock of crap.

I find it also disgraceful and disgusting that the Cromwell children don't care what their mother/grandmother put into place for the residents here. They don't care what the deed says and don't care what her intention was. All they care about is helping a few people make some money.

Anyone who wants to deed land to the citizens of Paris: BEWARE! Your deed with specifications will be laughed at and not respected by those who put capitalism ahead of anything else!

By the way, the two residents who stood up last night at Paris' meeting who said Mrs. Cromwell would be fine with slicing off an acre of two so the cemetery association can make some future money: ALL HEARSAY. Her deed is her voice. You can say she would have said this or that or felt a certain way, but her only true voice in the end is the deeded land with specific instructions left to the people of Paris to use. The End.

The guv'nah

Yep, A little over a year now

LePage has been office. Think he's riding on Baldacci's policies to benefit himself?

Kim Waite's picture

I saw the guv'nah speak last Thursday.

He also said he would like to open Maine up to strip-mining of metals and was backed up with enthusiasm by his EPA right hand woman who told the crowd that they're working on rolling back regulations to do so.

He didn't express sympathy to Rebecca Mason's father, but did however, take the time to "quell a rumor" of him driving drunk on 295. He made up an outrageous story, but then that night I got to thinking of where I did hear of a story of a LePage crashing his car on 295. I realized his son of his name, Paul LePage II did! http://www.sunjournal.com/city/story/1054815

Was he not tested for alcohol? Of course not! He's the guv'nah's son! See?

The guv'nah is drunk with power! Take away his keys!

You need MPBN

for the educational purposes it prescribes to! Why don't you read up on it instead: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Public_Broadcasting_Network

The wingnuts of the nation hate Sesame Street, because it teaches our children basic knowledge. To them, children should be taught in religious schools funded with taxpayer money because the Red Coats of today need that money for their King's propaganda! See? It's all making sense.

Kim Waite's picture

Yep, he said that

but he also said right after (I was there!) this that EVERY MAINER HAS CABLE TV. Ummmmm, no. Not true. When the meeting was over and the guv'nah was leaving, I ran up to him and yelled, "Hey guv'nah! Do all Mainers have cable tv?", and he responded with a smile on his face, "No, they don't". I said, "Exactly" with a very sarcastic tone.

MPBN is needed for those who don't have cable tv. The Emergency Broadcast System is MPBN. Oh wait! The republicans don't want Americans to be protected! Too expensive! Idiots. Republicans in the state legislature not too long ago were saying that the funding the state gets for this is a money saver.

DEFINITION: Neoliberalism is a contemporary political movement advocating economic liberalizations, free trade and open markets. Neoliberalism supports the privatization of nationalized industries, deregulation, and enhancing the role of the private sector in modern society. It is commonly informed by neoclassical or Austrian economics. The term neoliberal today is often used as a general condemnation of economic liberalization policies and advocates.

You really spin everything I say. Here's what you typed in big capital letters: "THATS ALL HE NEEDS WITH THAT LIB RAG. AND HIS WIFE IN CONGRESS".

You tell me what it means. You speak in tongues!

Speaking of George Bush....I think you should keep your big mouth shut because every time you open it an uneducated warmongering fascist gets it's wings! Ewww.

Obama is a pimple on Bush's ass? Ummmm....after Georgie left his shit-pile for the nation to fix and handle, he infected us all with gangrene. You have it all wrong, but then again, I'm not surprised. You are a Fabrication News watcher!

who is 10 times smarter than me doing with a man like you? I feel bad for her. Her choice wasn't good. Anyway, tell me what the answer is then: is it his skin color or is it because the speculators were saving George Bush from a complete national meltdown? You're married to a smart woman: ask her for the answer!

Drilling? It has increased along the Gulf Coast despite all the Howie Carr supporters saying, "Oh, you just wait! The Dems will say there's more drilling going on now than there has for a long time!". Well, that is true.

Do you support building the Keystone Pipeline to help the Canadians? Why would anyone be okay with another country using our land so they and the oil speculators/companies can sell the oil overseas so we Americans can buy it back at a higher price?

I'm not on welfare. I've owned my own business for 16 years now. You? You getting that socialist Social Security check each month, commie?

You hate Michelle Obama? Why? Because she wants kids to eat better in school but you would rather pump them up with sugar so America can continue to be the fattest country on the planet? Wow. Okay. Good reason to hate someone! *rolling eyes*

Yep, you tea people won a year ago

(you were sworn into office in January 2011), but what has happened since you took over the US House? Gas has gone up almost $1/gallon! Where's your outrage? The president can't go after the oil speculators directly, but the republican controlled House can, but they won't. They love the oil speculators and they love the profits they're making with their oil stocks.

I'm not little minded. Thanks for the opportunity to state the obvious!

What has also happened since you tea people took over? Oh that's right, almost all the bills that you've brought up have been about women's health care. How about creating some jobs? I thought you said you were the job creators so "Vote for us!" you all screamed.

Kim Waite's picture

I don't know you either

but I've surmised that you don't like a smart woman in your midst. Sad. Anyway, can you answer a very basic question that has been bothering me for some time: why is it under George Bush the cost of a barrel of oil got up to $150 and the price at the pump was $4/gallon, but under Obama the price for a barrel of oil gets up to $108 and the price at the pump is quickly approaching $4/gallon? Do you think it's because the speculators don't like Obama's skin color and party affiliation? I've often wondered.

The price of food has steadily been going up and the prices that have remained somewhat stable are in boxes half their size now. Did you notice that? A box of Cheese-Its we can fit in our pockets now and it's only 50 cents more a box. What a bargin! Been going on for years, but some didn't notice because they were too busy worshiping Bush's amazing warmongering.

Chellie's husband bought a very miniscule amount of the PPH. He doesn't own it. Far from it. But hey! Why let facts get in your way!

Kim Waite's picture

Ummmmm...

those who go against Obama's policies are the people on the wrong side of history. They're the same people who keep making our nation go backwards. They don't care about this country. They didn't do a thing to quell the tide for 8 years under Bush and now that it's time to fix those problems, these whiny ass titty babies don't want to!

Chellie & Mike want to see America continue to grow no matter how slow it's going. Better to be going forward slowly than backwards quickly!

This is why many were shocked when Snowe ran down fast to vote against the Blunt Amendment. Her shackles were gone!

Kim Waite's picture

Those "moderates"

George Bush in September 2008

when the stock market started crashing is the one who bailed the banks out by creating TARP in October 2008. During that fateful week of September 2008, a half a TRILLION dollars was taken out of the money markets (offshore? Must have been because to this day no one has been arrested for the electronic run on the banks that day!) in 90 minutes. The Federal Reserve pushed $180 BILLION dollars onto the market to stave off a total collapse. It worked temporarily, but then Bush said it was time to bail the banks out. He created a $753 BILLION dollar TARP (protects ya from the bad weather!) bailout and before he left office, he took $353 billion and gave it out to the Big Banks without strings attached. The Big Banks went wild with their new found money! In fact, after Obama won in November 2008, the Big Banks were on a high again and when Obama in early 2009 after being sworn in started adding strings to the bailout money, that's when the republicans of the nation started calling him a big meaning to the banks.

Guess how much Bush's TARP has cost Americans so far? $7 TRILLION DOLLARS. Had George Bush decided to give every single American who filed a tax return in 2007 a $50,000 check, our nation would have flourished and he would have been a hero leaving his presidency, but he didn't do that. Sad.

Kim Waite's picture
verified

And by the way...

....the credit unions of America saw the scheme the Big Banks were creating and they did not join in! The credit unions and small local banks were the only financial institutions that remain sound to this day. Wall Street and the Big Banks created this mess along with the US Congress to show the world "how strong America is" even after an event such as 9/11 happening to us!

I was in the housing market from 2005 to 2007. I walked into a Wells Fargo office with some homes that I was interested in buying. One was an apartment building. The two women behind the desk I met with had eyes the big as saucers (their greed was seeping out!) looking at that one and said to me, "We can also give you a $120,000 construction loan in addition to buying the building!". What should have been a $125,000 mortgage had suddenly doubled before my eyes. I walked out of the office disgusted. Why? Because I couldn't afford it and because it was very apparent to me that they didn't care.

Anyway, stop blaming poor people for the Housing Bubble, when it was the banks who took all the risk!

Kim Waite's picture
verified

As usual, Americans have no idea how our nation got in this mess

First off, after 9/11 the state of the economy went down because the Bush Regime had everyone scared out of their wits that al-Qaeda was living in their basements.

Secondly, George Bush in 2002 created the "American Dream Downpayment Act" (Google it!) and said to the nation that we are an "ownership society". From that moment, THE BANKS TOOK ALL THE RISKS, because people were allowed to get a loan without a down payment (thanks to the Free Downpayment Act ole Georgie created!), without a credit check, and without verfiying one's income.

And it wasn't only the poor who got a loan from a bank that they couldn't afford. The middle class went ballistic buying up homes. Some were buying more than one home to flip them to make a profit! And there were some out there across the nation who REMORTGAGED their home to buy a Hummer or to update their kitchen or what have you.

The Big Banks were fine with no one paying thier mortgage, because the banks took those toxic loans and "insured" them through AIG. AIG then turned part of their comp. into a hedgefund and sold those loans offshore into more hedgefunds! A $100,000 mortgage on land that was defaulted on became $1,000,000 in value offshore in the Wall Street Housing Casino!

So, in conclusion, between Bush's laws and the banks taking all the risk, neither one of them cared if you paid your mortgage or not. They gave out loans to anyone who wanted one. And guess how much the derivatives/credit default swap bubble is worth today? $1.5 QUADRILLION.

Kim Waite's picture

I'm so glad

Also Dan...

...what are the chances that Kristina & Jake were able to hold onto their cell phones or find them after the crash happened? Huh? Seriously, let's think about this for a second because we are the adults here: the car leaves the road and hits some trees with the ROOF FIRST, crumbling and crashing, and (as you saw in the picture) the vehicle ends up a total loss. Things that were in the car are now out of the car or they're inside the car and not in it's original place. Again, what are the chances anyone was able to hold onto ANYTHING during that crash? I was rear-ended this past March in Portland by a woman doing 35mph while I sat and waited for traffic to move forward after the light turned green. I can tell you: even my coffee didn't stay in the cup! Had my phone been in my hand (was in my purse) who knows where it would have ended up! Things I had in the car actually broke because of the velocity of the hit.

We don't know, but is it possible that Kristina & Jake were going for help because they didn't know where the hell their cell phones were to call for help? Could very well be. It was after midnight and I highly doubt 219 is a well traveled road that late at night.

Yep, she walked for a mile...

...because she wasn't unconscious. She was in shock and her adrenaline was in high gear. Saying her injuries are not significant, but yet, she's still in the hospital with her condition listed as SERIOUS, what does that tell you? Dan, there are people who fall off cliffs on a mountain and drag themselves a mile or so to safety. Does that mean their injuries weren't significant because they were able to drag themselves for a long way in pain? Gees. A guy I knew years ago was in a rollover accident and walked 2 miles to his house with many broken ribs. He had significant injuries to his body and yet, still walked!

Are broken bones significant injuries to you or not?

Kim Waite's picture

She's still in the hospital

Ummm John?

With rants like yours, you will have people tormenting her or physically beating her up for the rest of her life! I'm sure she knows exactly what she did and is already tormented. We don't need to add to this young girl's mental state, okay? All her choices that night were stupid. We get it. She gets it. She will pay the price at some point in the court system, but please, do not (and others too) create anger against her that puts her in harm's way, because honestly, what good will that do? She has a family who loves her. Her injuries are significant enough that she will have a long road ahead of her. If you want her to feel pain and to be reminded about what she's done, she living it right now.

Kim Waite's picture

She and Jake were drunk, remember?

Drunk people even sleep in snowbanks until a friend comes by and wakes them up! The brain will literally shut off pain sensors when need be.

Kim Waite's picture

As I've been saying online over the last couple of days...

It's time to plunk down a mangled car from a drunk driving accident (not referring to Kristina's car....could be a car from another accident somewhere in Maine) where a person (or more than one) were killed in it and put it next to the Oxford Hills school sign out front for the high schoolers and adults to see as they go to school or drive by. Why? Because I think we all need to be reminded of what could happen if we drink and drive. As pointed out by Missy the other day: a moment of silence at the school doesn't have much impact on these kids. I agree. They need a powerful image to see for them to understand what consequences of their choices could result in!

My heart still aches for all of the families involved. I can't even begin to image your pain and suffering. :(

We as parents need to call OHCHS

on Monday and our local police's non-emergency lines to see if they would be willing to do this! I was raised in Cumberland and Greely High School does this: they put a mangled car from a drunk driving wreck where a person or people died in it on the front lawn of the school so the high schoolers and those passing by can see what can result in a drunk driving accident. Maybe Mothers Against Drunk Driving are the ones who put the car there? Not sure, but nonetheless, I think it's time for a reality check for our young people. :D

Kim Waite's picture

Maybe it's time for OHCHS...

...to put a mangled car from a drunk driving accident on the front lawn next to the school's sign, so the high schoolers and the adults that pass by each day can be reminded what happens when someone drinks & drives or drinks & texts while driving? A powerful image....one that won't be quickly forgotten, especially if a large sign is put next to the car, "Drunk driving kills". Of course, there will always be kids (and adults) who just don't think and who make bad choices, which saddens me so.

Waking up to the news of Logan & Becca's death has haunted me all day. My heart aches for their family and friends along with Kristina and Jake's too. :(

What is most disturbing in this article is the last paragraph

where Phil Tarr, Paris' town manager says, "In regards to your meeting schedule and when you could act on this matter, Bob or I will be in touch with you on how best to make the transition...". Ummmmm, why is Bob now in direct talks with Tarr over the next move of the Chair position? Is it only because he's the Vice Chair or is there another meaning? I've watched Bob & Ted on the Board interact with each other and it appears these two are in cahoots with Phil again, so I'm a little taken aback that as soon as Ted announced he would step down, it was Bob who Phil chose as his direct contact.

Paris does not need any more funny business.

My vote for Chair would be for Jean Smart. She's mature, she understands the bylaws (and doesn't warp them or make them up when needed like Ted & Bob do at times!), and she would be fair to the process and to the taxpayers of Paris. She would go forward with the best intentions that have the least amount of impact on us. If getting rid of the "good old boys network" is a must now, then I believe Jean Smart would be the best choice in breaking this cycle.

Ted Kurtz treated Jean so horribly when he was Chair. To keep Ted tame, I think Jean would be the right person for the job!

Ted Kurtz is a right wing putz.,

The man obviously lives only by his rules and when he looks at himself in the mirror each day, he falls in love all over again.

I was there at the meeting when Lorrain abstained from voting. He had every right to not vote if he chose so. When Kurtz said to him he had to vote, myself and others came to Lorrain's defense by saying he doesn't have to. Anyway, did Kurtz ask who was opposed? Nope! Had he, then Lorrain would have raised his hand (or maybe not...his choice). See, the thing is: KURTZ DOESN'T LIKE ANYONE VOTING AGAINST HIM. He believes that if he thinks it's a good idea, then everyone does too and should show it by giving the man whatever he wants. The man appears to live in LaLa Land and I think he's becoming a little unhinged as the meetings go by because the board is not agreeing with him on every issue. Just look at his posture above in the picture! Does that look like a man who should be in charge of anything? I think he's scary acting to be honest. I don't blame the other selectmen for wanting a new chairman, because they see what happens when the wrong person has an ounce of power: that person becomes a dictator very quickly!

In conclusion: KURTZ HAS TO STEP DOWN AS CHAIR. He's not mature enough to be the chair as shown to those in attendance at the Paris Selectboard meetings for months now. He doesn't own Ryan Lorrain and someone needs to remind him that Ryan is a separate person from him!
