And yet most who back these

And yet most who back these cuts claim to be Christian and yet in Mathews are the following words of Jesus:
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

It is a shame more who claim to be Christian don't bother to even try to live by the teachings of their own divinity.

It can be easy as a parent to

It can be easy as a parent to want to believe your kids will never experiment with drugs or alcohol much less drive while doing so but the bottom line is that most do experiment with one or both at some point. You might get lucky, your kids might be the ones that don't but then again they might just be the ones who do. It is far better to have an open honest line of communication with them and an understanding that if they do, they call for a ride home, no lectures, no punishment for giving in to the peer pressure, just a safe ride home. Some people believe that is tantamount to approving of the kids drinking or drug use but the reality is if the kids do not feel safe from punishment and lectures they will NOT call you.
You also have to make sure you are setting the example and not driving while under the influence and that includes prescriptions for pain meds, muscle relaxers or anything else that causes drowsiness and reduces reflexes. Do as I say not as I do does not work when dealing with teenagers it just makes them see you as a hypocrite to be ignored. So if you find yourself in a situation of being away from home and under the influence give your teen a call for a safe ride home. Set the right example!
The same goes for those cell phones put your own away and ignore any incoming text while driving it is just as dangerous for adults to text and drive as it is for teens. Make it visible that this is what you do and what you expect them to do. Then if you catch them texting while driving take away the license and the cell phone for a nice long time. They will survive without them. They just might not if using them irresponsibly.

No foreign business should

No foreign business should qualify for any form of government subsidy at any level, period. For that matter no company that is not 100% owned AND fully operated in the USA with USA citizens or those holding a valid work visa should qualify for any form of governmental subsidies or governmental contracts. Save the tax breaks for the American companies who keep the jobs in America only!

3 years for raping a kid?

3 years for raping a kid? Seriously? This judge should be sentenced to 20 years for failing to do his duty! There are people serving far longer sentences for selling pot to adults but a little too close to a school. Where is the justice in these light sentences for child rapist?

I fail to see what difference

I fail to see what difference it makes why someone fell asleep at the wheel. Bottom line is whether it is from lack of sleep, medication, alcohol, or illegal drugs you knew you were a danger on the road and should be held fully and completely accountable for any injuries or personal property damage you cause up to and including being charged with vehicular manslaughter if someone dies due to your failure to be responsible regardless of if there are drugs or alcohol involved.

Opening the dump rather than

Opening the dump rather than doing a pickup is pretty pointless even to a large number of home owners who do not own or know someone with a pick up truck and those who have physical limitations. Road side spring clean was a grand idea and should include apartment buildings. Exactly who does the council believes pays the property taxes on all those apartments in the first place? Do they honestly not understand that they are factored into the rent collected on those buildings so it indeed the tenants who are the ones actually paying the taxes?

Oh I did not miss your point

Oh I did not miss your point Mr. Breton. When you use something that is totally unrelated to the governors positions to try to prove your point it detracts from your own credibility and the credibility of your point which in my opinion is a very valid point but one that is unrelated to this particular instance of business loss. No policy will change the coming tide of change to the book industry. It is solely being driven by the new technologies that provide a more convenient format for consumers to acquire and read books.
If those of us opposed to the governors policies save our attempts to point out their fallacies to relevant issues we have a much better chance of swaying others opinions. If we don't we just loose even more credibility in the minds of those who support the current administration.
Making snide digs at every opportunity regardless of relevance in no way helps and in fact only hurts those opposed to the governor's more dangerous policies.

As much as I dislike our

As much as I dislike our current governor this is one I can't blame on him or his policies. Kindles, smart phones, pads, etc are quickly making print books obsolete. Why buy a book that you then need space to store when you can have several hundred books stored on something smaller than one hardback? Add to that you can find a ton of free books for your e-reader and there is even less incentive to buy a hard copy.
It is a shame, I for one really don't care for reading on those things. I fear by the time my grandkids have kids books will be things you only see in a museum.
It has nothing to do with politics however and everything to do with the direction of consumer consumption. Simply put more and more people are using electronic devices to read and fewer and fewer are buying hard copy books. If stores can't sell books they stop carrying them. If the main focus of the store was selling books, they go out of business.

Bullying has been on the rise

Bullying has been on the rise since the right to self defense was stripped from children in schools. The zero tolerance policies only make it easy on the staff and on the bullies who find it highly amusing the kid they have been tormenting for months finally snapped, punched them as they so richly deserved and is now the one in trouble.
Back in the dark ages when I was in elementary school something like 3rd grade I came across a boy terrorizing a smaller kid kindergarten, maybe first grader. I came to the defense of the smaller child. I was congratulated by the adults not punished for doing what was right! Today I would be the one suspended while the bully laughed all the way home. We have left our children powerless to defend themselves and wonder why things are as they are.

Either name calling today is

Either name calling today is much tamer than it was when I was in 7th grade or someone did not think this through very well. I know at that age when I was in school you really could not have repeated the name calling with out a string of vulgarity. If today's kids can write what they are being called without vulgarity they have it easy, but I doubt that to be the case since vulgarity has become such a norm in today's society. Seriously if you want to know what kids are being called today all you have to do is think back to what kinds of things were being said when you were in school. It hasn't changed that much I'm sure.

LePage is a prime example of

LePage is a prime example of why Maine needs to change election laws to require a run off between the top two in any election that no one carries a majority of the vote. We could really use a method for recall elections as well right about now.

I can remember a time when if

I can remember a time when if a woman was pregnant she could get medicaid to cover her medical care while she was pregnant and for 1 year after giving birth. Even if the child's father was in the home he did not get coverage and after a year only the child could get coverage. Other than that it was only for children, the disabled, and the elderly. You know the folks who have no choice in being able to work harder to take care of themselves.
I personally think it is time it goes back to that and then we wouldn't need the drastic cuts to care the elderly and disabled truly need. I have zero issue helping to take care of the elderly and disabled. I have serious issue supporting able bodied adults.

The problems I see with restrictions on subsidized housing is there is no way to locally legislate a requirement that the truly, at no fault of their own, physically disabled and the elderly be given priority to the existing housing.

I do commend these parents

I do commend these parents for being concerned about the safety of their daughter. However as many have pointed out crime is hardly a new thing for Bartlet St.. I would be more concerned about all the grandfatherly types cruising the area looking for hookers if I had a teenage daughter in that area.
Thankfully I learned quickly upon moving to Lewiston 13yrs ago that Bartlett St is to be avoided. I was looking for an apt when I first arrived here and money was tight. What I had, had to last until I had a job which I was planning for making what I had last at least 3 months so while I really liked the place I first looked at on Pleasant St. the lower rent on a place listed for Bartlett St drew me to it. I was standing on the sidewalk infront of the building waiting for the landlord to arrive to show me the place when a seeming nice grandfatherly type man in a nice car pulled up. At first I assumed it was the landlord, until he rolled down the window and propositioned me! I couldn't help but laugh all the way back to the place on Pleasant St which I immediately took deciding I could do without a few things to make what funds I had stretch in the nicer area.
I was laughing as I was dressed in jeans, a t'shirt, and a flannel shirt over that as the morning air was chilly to me and I was almost 40yrs old at the time! The thought of a 40yr old grandma in jeans and a flannel being mistaken for a hooker still makes me laugh.
I still avoid even driving down Bartlett St.

So will there be charges

So will there be charges filed against the man for attempting medicaid fraud? He is not a member of law enforcement so can't claim any legitimate sting operation immunity. He was ultimately denied yet these clowns try to use an edited version to show proof of fraud. The only proof of fraud I see is the individuals attempt to defraud the government. He should be prosecuted for his failed attempt.
I will grant the first worker should be fired for suggesting he just not mention assets and non verifiable income. Personally I think she should have excused herself as soon as he suggested he is a drug runner and called in the police.

While my initial reaction was

While my initial reaction was great another tax break for the rich after reading the article I can understand why these taxes were eliminated. When all the states around us do not charge taxes on planes and plane parts having that tax does indeed put our own businesses at a disadvantage.
Attracting those wealthy vacationers to spend more time here without worry of being hit by the "use" tax could bring in a great deal of business for a wide array of businesses that cater to vacationers. Eliminating the tax on planes and parts puts those in the repair and sale business on a level playing field with their competitors in our neighboring states.
Hopefully this will indeed have the expected results of drawing more sales and repair business into Maine which in turn will generate more well paying jobs. The sales taxes on other goods people buy while vacationing here and the income taxes on the additional jobs created should more than off set any loss of revenue from the elimination of these taxes as long as it has the desired effects for our local businesses. Only time will tell on that.
It sure would have been nice however if we could have leveled the playing field for our businesses by brokering a deal with the other states that would have them applying the taxes instead of us having to eliminate them but seriously that would never happen.

People who kill their

People who kill their children over loosing custody and visitation do not love their children. That is the actions of the "if I can't have them no one can" extreme possessiveness to the point of seeing a person as property. That is not love!

This young man is an example

This young man is an example of what you can do when you set your mind to over coming obstacles. Too many natural born American youth waste the opportunities afford them because they are raised to believe being a minority and poor they have none. Truth is they have the same ones this young man had. The difference is this young man Worked to make those opportunities work for him.

Congratulations on a job well done Saban and I wish you continued success in all you set out to achieve in life! I hope your story will be an inspiration to other young people in our community with obstacles to over come.

Actually yes I do. Smoking

Actually yes I do. Smoking pot is not a precursor of being dysfunctional and not smoking pot does not make you functional. Lots of breeders out there fall into both categories and none of them qualify as parents. Lots of very good solid parents out there smoke pot responsibly or drink responsibly. The key is to all good things let there be moderation. Some of the bible thumping holier than thou never touched a drink or a drug types are the worst of the worst of parents raising totally indulgent spoiled selfish brats who have no tolerance for anyone who doesn't think exactly as they have been brainwashed to believe is the one and only right and true way of being. There are many people who end up in prison from these fine upstanding families. It is far from as cut and dry simple as do they drink or use drugs to determine if someone is a breeder or an actual parent. I've personally known several wonderful parents who smoked pot after the kids went to bed at night and some really sorry breeders who never drank or smoked anything. If only life was as cut and dry simple as some seem to think it is.

Some kids of non drug using

Some kids of non drug using parents end up in jail, commit suicide, etc. The causes of such things are not so cut and dry as to who does or does not use a drug. The hypocrisy of many of those who yell how evil pot is while they pop those sedatives, pain killers, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs all day every day, but hey they are different they are prescribed after all, never mind they alter your mind and perceptions just as much and in most case far more than smoking pot does. For the record, no I'm not a pot smoker. I am however grounded in reality.

I think the GOP has the right

I think the GOP has the right idea but I doubt they would like how I would pay for the extension of benefits for the unemployed. You see we start with an across the board 25% reduction of salary for all congressmen and the president. Then we link their retirement to the same vested retirement plans all other government employees are in, you are in office for 4 years sorry you didn't get vested, in for 8 you get the same small percentage any other government worked would get who only worked for 8 years. Then we increase their contribution to their health care insurance by 10%. That should pretty much cover the cost. If not we start reinstating the tax breaks they gave themselves. Lets do recall you pretty much have to be rich to get into federal office these days so it is a matter of giving themselves tax breaks.

As a parent and grandparent I

As a parent and grandparent I am far more concerned about the disruption of the safety and education of the children who ARE controlling themselves and trying to learn. Those who are out of control not only present a danger to themselves but to the rest of the class. Beyond that they cause major disruptions in the education of the children who are behaving.
If a child truly has some disorder that makes them unable to control violent outburst there really need to be in a special school not disrupting the education of the rest of our children. I am all for the free appropriate education however appropriate needs to be more emphasized and include what is appropriate for the rest of the students as well.

To those expressing disgust at the use of restraints on these violent outburst children. You would really have a field day on our educators if they used your hands off positive modeling and that violent kid killed some innocent child while he wasn't being restrained. The children being restrained in our schools are violent and dangerous to themselves AND the rest of the children in the class! Restrain away, better send the violent outburst kids to a special school so the rest of the children have a safe appropriate education!
