You beat me to it!

Thank you to Josh Wojcik of Upright Frameworks. My Monday morning mission was to find where exactly this house is located and ask these folks if I could plastic their windows. I am overwhelming impressed by the out pouring of generosity from not only Mainers but from other states as well. Sometimes it takes only speaking to the right person to get some much needed help. I would also like to thank Ike Libby. He is one of the most caring, generous people I know. He has helped my family out more than once by bleeding the furnace for free and showing me how to do it, delivering and giving me time to pay and sending the repair company when needed. Hats off to all who have helped!! Now, to see if these folks need any other assistance.....Just because I believe in Pay It Forward.

I'm sure there was at least one more involved in this one.... Unfortunately my family has had a legal 'run in' with this kid. Some people never learn any lessons. This person chooses to NOT be a productive member of this society.

i can (topically) agree with the consolidation..

HOWEVER.... you want to bus kids from WHERE? I went to Mt. Blue. The freshman were not there when I graduated. Grades 10, 11, 12 attended. They were, and still are, bussing kids in from Weld, New Vineyard.... far reaching towns. Kids from Weld got on the bus (a high school student mind you) at 5:30 in the morning to make 8 o'clock classes. Got ON the bus.... not got up, but ON THE BUS. When I lived in Brettuns (just outside of Eat Livermore), my 4th grader had to get on the bus at 6:15 to get to school by 8. (that was the first year SAD 36 tried what they called the "Dirigo Bussing Schedule") At what point does practicality take over? Do you want your little 5 or 6 year old, living on the outskirts of Buckfield or Sumner to have to get up at 5 or 5:30 am to get on the bus by 6??? Tom Ward was the Principal from my alma matter..... I think he did an ok job... Now my kids go to school here at Dirigo and I was GLAD to see him as Super. If you dont like what you are refering to as "duplication of services" I am sure that the State of Maine would gladly "refund some of your tax dollars because you do not have a school aged child" (that is a widely heard statement among Baby Boomers). The public in general complains that children graduate from EVERY school in the U.S. EVERY year that cannot read or write on an accurate grade level; some not at all.... yet that SAME public LOUDLY complains when they have to pay school taxes.... I dont get it.... PUBLIC SCHOOLS= DANGED IF YOU DO, DANGED IF YA DONT.

you HAVE to be joking....

Seriously mister.... do you know what the components of Pepper Spray are??? No human in their right mind would "use this to spice up their food". The ingredients are NOT all natural nor are they intended for human (or animal) consumption. Do a little more homework before you go ranting off about law enforcement. My father has been on the force for over 36 years, so I do have some back ground info to rely on here. Just because we, Joe Q. Public, are hearing about this now does not mean it was JUST reported. The whole legal process takes time (thusly called DUE PROCESS) and more than likey was reported to a lawyer around the end of their incarceration. You, nor I, know the history of these criminals, what their charges were or under what pretense they were there. Here are some facts I found in a quick search on google (just so you DONT think I am making this up)...
"In the state of Maine, criminal usage of pepper spray or similar products is a violation of law, however usage of said products for self-defence as well as possession are legal".............Pepper spray is banned for use in war by Article I.5 of the Chemical Weapons Convention which bans the use of all riot control agents in warfare whether lethal or non-lethal. In the US, when pepper spray is used in the workplace, OSHA requires a pepper spray MSDS be available to all employees ............Some "triple-action" pepper sprays also contain "tear gas" (CS gas), which can be neutralized with sodium metabisulfite (Campden tablets, used in homebrewing), though it, too, is not water soluble and needs to be washed off using the same procedure as for pepper spray............Like Tasers, pepper spray has been associated with positional asphyxiation of individuals in police custody............The US Army concluded in a 1993 Aberdeen Proving Ground study that pepper spray could cause "Mutagenic effects, carcinogenic effects, sensitization, cardiovascular and pulmonary toxicity, neurotoxicity, as well as possible human fatalities. There is a risk in using this product on a large and varied population..............."The effects of pepper spray are far more severe, including temporary blindness which lasts from 15-30 minutes, a burning sensation of the skin which lasts from 45 to 60 minutes, upper body spasms which force a person to bend forward and uncontrollable coughing making it difficult to breathe or speak for between 3 to 15 minutes."
For those with asthma, taking other drugs, or subject to restraining techniques which restrict the breathing passages, there is a risk of death. The Los Angeles Times has reported at least 61 deaths associated with police use of pepper spray since 1990 in the USA,[5]. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) documented 27 people in police custody who died after exposure to pepper spray in California since 1993.[1][6][7] However, the ACLU report counts any death occurring within hours of exposure to pepper spray. In all 27 cases, the coroners' report listed other factors as the primary cause of death, though in some cases the use of pepper spray may have been a contributing factor.
............. let me know when I have given you enough info.....

Mistake?

Mistake on the part of the elderly man? What did he do wrong? Cross the road??? More like the guy that hit him is going to get off on this because he is a corrections officer and a part-time deputy. How about the fact that it was around 730 in the morning? That means Mr. Fail was coming home from an overnight shift. How about the possibility that he was very tired and (maybe??) speeding. There is a reason it is called an accident - not on purpose. Maybe the poor elderly man that lost his life was NOT to blame. And the sun? Oh my eyes!! Come on.... doesnt anyone else see the error in this preliminary judgement??

my condolences

I worked at Edgewood on 2 seperate occasions. Recently after i graduated high school, as a dietary aide, and then a number of years after that, as a CNA. Al had a sharp wit and remembered me from my previous employment there. He also remembered who my family was. He was always very sensitive about the needs of others and would often put himself "down on the list" so others could be tended first. I spent a fair amount of time with Al. He was a terrific man who had a story for every occasion. He could always tell when something "was up" as he put it. He was always proud of his job for UMF and also made all the name tags for the employees of Edgewood and it's sister facility also located in Farmington. I am sorry that I learned of his passing after the service had already been held. I would have liked to attend. My deepest condolences to his family and friends who truly knew him well. People like Al continue to live on even after death. And he wouldnt even mind if it was vicariously thru other people who loved him and cared for him. I am grateful for the times I shared a small part of his life. I hope this letter reaches his family and it makes them smile warmly.....

With greatest sympathy

I am very saddened to hear of Ms. Jacobs passing. I remember her as a substitute during my high school years. I always loved hearing that our "sub for the day" was her. My deepest sympathies for her family... A great woman who will be deeply missed by all those fortunate enough to have had their lives touched by her.

i dont see this as new

i dont see this as new ground. what about meth clinics??? they think it is regulated... it isnt. it is sold right outside the damn place. i think there are much better things to worry about than pot.....meth is so much more addictive. i know people who have ruined their lives by 'doing pills' so they decided to get help. they went to the meth clinc. the result?? now they are ten times worse than before. they didnt get help. they just traded a variety of pills for the one someone handed them LEGALLY. and it is covered by insurance!! pot isnt. it isnt like 'one hit buddy n your hooked' meth? one pill cuz you were already hooked on another..... none of it makes sense. people ruin their lives on a daily basis and then want 'help'. using marijuana medically isnt abusing it. there is nothing that meth is used for medically other than to get someone off all the other pills. pot doesnt kill your liver and kidneys. meth does. yes, pot kills brain cells, but so doesnt sneezing.... that isnt illegal yet.

just so you know... it is NOT a crime for someone to be looking into your windows with or without binoculars. I had this problem with a neighbor i had when i lived in livermore. i contacted the state police 3 different times about the woman next door peering from her property into my kitchen wimdow. when he came to investigate she claimed that she was "just looking out for her own safety" and was "bird watching". I had 6 children in the ouse at the time ranging in ages 4 to 13 and the cop never gave her anything other than a verbal warning to leave me alone. he told me she had every right to be doing what she stated.... not right but thats the way it goes sometimes.....As for probable cause.... i believe there were reports from neighbors about loud noise and young kids being disruptive.... there's your probable cause to enter the residence.

not neccesarily inspection

not neccesarily inspection (if they are not driven on the road) but they do have to pass "tech specs" which is just simply following the guidelines put forth by the Maine Mud Boggers Assoc. Does sound like he was a little close. I have never seen anyone allowed in the pits themselves during the heats. I participated in the MMBA last year and was very happy to see the safety guidelines in place.

If I drive w/o a license, do

If I drive w/o a license, do property damage and get caught I have to pay restitution, a fine and receive a suspension notice.... Yes I do agree that accidents do happen.... but the law is the law. No one should escape due to race, creed, color, religion or sexual orientation. Of course the story doesn't provide us with the details... it wouldnt be real news reporting if it told the whole story.... My mother always said "Believe what you see, half of what you read and none of what you hear."

You guys must be real "old-school"... This sounds like a case of "Children should be seen and not heard." Do you forget so easily that children have ten times the energy that any adult could muster? Makes me wonder if you guys ever had children and if you did what your course of discipline was.... I would rather see a child behave as it felt rather than sit stock still like a drone.....
