Wish the reporter had waited for all the facts about this accident before writing anything. Hopefully he will print more later. My heart goes out to these kids.
There are many dangerous intersections on this road and too many accidents have happened at them. Many people use this route for a raceway. You look one way and then the other and back again but before you can pull out, there is a car right there. Speed on this Rte. is unbelievable!
It was good to see over 500 residents saw through the "sky is falling" scenario that is going through this State. Once zoning is in place, there is no going back. Many of the people who are against the turbines would find out the zoning has come back to haunt them .
The French do have their radio spot but they also learned English. Learning English should be required for all immigrants. All earlier foreign settlers might speak their native language when they were home but all learned English and spoke it in public. It is not very polite to go shopping and there are 2 or more Somalians talking in their native tongue and laughing. What are they saying that is so funny?? I guess we are suppose to learn their language now. Just a thought.
Kudos to Caton! That was fast work. There is hope for this area after all. Now if the judge doesn't just slap their hands and send them on their merry way, they may learn something. I wonder what their parents think of their sons.
This is about what I was going to write. I wish her name was published but her friends and neighbors already know who she is and the word will get around. Someone should have reported her sooner. From reading the papers, the towns in this area are becoming lawless. So many break-ins and stealing.
It sure sounds like a lot of "sour grapes" to me. If all these nay-sayers had worked half as hard as the Berry's have , they would be all for the wind mills. None of this property was left to the Berrys. They worked, earned the money and bought it. So they logged the land. That is what loggers do.They sold the wood, to heat your home, to paper mills for your newspapers, etc. Jealousy takes many different avenues. Quotes unverified and it is all green with envy.
The amount of tax for the town of Jay sounds outrageous. Is this some more of let the mill pay? What happens if the mill isn't there in a few years?? Seems it would be more equable to move the County seat to Jay.
What,s up with the court in this area??? A female gets off with a slap on the wrist and this joker has his freedom for now. Sure doesn't sound right. Must be some very good talking lawyers.
Maybe it is time to start looking for a new one, but bet he has a contract for umpteen years! I am sure Ernie Steward has done the very best he could with what he has had to work with. Things have gone down hill ever since the dispatch centers were consolidated in both Livermore Falls and Jay. I guess we get what we pay for!
Bet Steve Brown knows where everything is in this office!. At least every paper or folder that is important. It is too bad the town is so split on the wind energy. Of course everyone wants it but not in their front or back yard or even close by. As for the wind mills erected on private land, why not? I would think this was the landowners decision. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me.
Seems like something similar to this happens every week in this area. Since all the consoladation of police departments in the towns, the druggies and idiots are looking for a quick buck and pretty well know where they can get it after hours. Am sad about the museum break-in as there has been so much work gone into this . It is important for future citizens to know the background of the towns, who worked here and etc. It was wonderful that Sherry Judd had some backup of the computers. Hope the culprits are caught soon and their names and faces are published every week for a month, plus a heavy fine and jail time.
Am so sorry for this family. Really hope Mr. Fleury can rebuild a barn or some kind of a shelter before Winter. He has put so much hard work and money into this place. The animals always looked well cared for and was a joy to see when out to pasture.
Have seen many close calls with vehicles, either the driver is on a cell phone or texting with both hands and trying to drive with the heels of their palms. I have often wondered exactly how many accidents have happened because of the use of cell phones while driving. Any ban will not stop it but it might slow it down a little.
When and if they are caught, I would be very interested in their reasons for the damage and total disrespect of this cemetery. Chances are they will say they were bored or it was just something they wanted to do. They will be underage and with a slap on their wrist , they will be sent home to their parents. So very sad.
There is only a partial turning lane in the shape of an elongated triangle, to enter Fortune Fountain's parking lot when heading East toward Farmington. Four lanes with a center turning lane only goes from the FMH (hospital) to the Walmart entrance. This accident occured right after the Walmart entrance, if I read the article right. Because businesses were allowed to build or preexisted right up to the highway, it would be very difficult to make a center turning lane plus keep this a four lane highway. Eventually something will have to be done to this stretch of Rt.2 & 4.
This turn into Future Fountain, when heading towards Farmington, is extremely dangerous. There is not a full turning lane there. This accident is no surprise! The speed limit is 40 mph. This whole stretch of road from the FMH ( hospital ) traffic light to the center of Farmington should all be redesigned. Maybe like other towns and cities have , with a full turning lane in the center. With so many businesses on this part of Rt.4, it is a nightmare to travel sometimes.
I wonder how many people in the town of Jay have seen their contribution to Franklin County taxes this year. Unbelievable!!! The residents (property owners) must be very very rich. So surely they can all kick in some more for the Livermore, Jay schools consolidation.
In a different write-up by the SJ it is reported the marijuana would sell to patients for $400. per ounce. If this is accurate, I wonder if the State kicks in for the people who are on Maine Care? This sounds bazaar as most people can get it cheaper on most any corner and it doesn't cost the State a dime.
If you ever saw first hand what these people do, it would make you sick. They do not have a clue. Mr Powers should really be ashamed for hosting this bunch because he knows what they have done.
And now what did these guys gain?? They will never have or own anything of value and will wind up just another couple of bums. I hope they have to make good on some of this destruction. They certainly will not be able to repay much as who would hire a couple of punks like these two? No jobs, no money, so they take what other people have. Not much of a future.
I will not comment on any other articles here as I thought this was about the daily crossword. I throughly enjoy it just the way it is. Now the "New York Times" one on Sunday is another story!!!! I am still trying to find the survey pertaining to the crossword puzzle.
Looks like many people in the Jay school district must to have won a jackpot. They certainly are not thinking of the many people who live on Social Security or the many residents who still are looking for work. For the number of children in the schools, this amount of money is crazy. Hopefully some people who do not agree with this budget will get out and vote this down.
How colleges have changed over the years. These students should have been sent home the next morning after spending a night in jail. And no graduation this year. Their parents must be so proud of them. It seems to be the trend in any college town. The students dictate the rules to the "natives" and heaven forbid if you do not agree with their actions. All of this will come back to haunt them someday. Guaranteed!!!!
It does seem strange that some help could not be found for this family other than a room in a motel. This family must not be refugees and yet they are. From the pictures, it looks like someone was trying to build a home. Either lack of money or no-how, it could not be finished. How very sad for the family, the town and the State.
I hope this is the end of this fiasco in Farmington . Either the town fathers pass some kind of ordinance or the State does. Some families would like to do their weekly shopping in town and will not while this dame is loose. Many other towns and cities in this State have passed decency laws and I would think Farmington would want to. Maybe the businesses get plenty of walk-ins from the college, enough to keep them going. What a selfish stupid witch this Andrea is. If she ever gets breast cancer, she will remember this day.
Mr Heath is way behind in judging the College and Farmington. They have had quite the reputation for weirdos for some time now. You wonder if this is what a college education does to supposedly sane people. Maybe it is something in the water?? Our family and friends stopped shopping in Farmington when this march was announced as I am sure many other families have. As for dear Andrea, I hope she still feels and looks the same when she turns 70. Just slip sliding and flip flopping around. What an attention getter for her, which is all it is.
The PETA people should get a life. That quote was one of the most assinine utterences they have made in a while. I for one am very sad to see the sardine canning factory closing. The fish were some of the best, but they probably knew that! The price was right also. Less than half what it costs for the foreign sardines. Most of all , I feel sad for all the workers that are losing their jobs. Yes, they can retrain, but for what??? and the benefits do not last.
Maybe Andrea should return to the jungle. She could be right at home with some of the tribes. Farmington already has a reputation beyond liberal and many people avoid shopping there. I do not believe this action will help the local economy any. There will be onlookers but not the kind that buy goods. I wonder why Andrea hasn't checked out our nudist colonies or is it because she just wants the attention.
What a shame this bond could not go forward, especially for the businesses and the railroad in Northern Maine. Is it no wonder there is talk of dividing Maine. Sounds like it already has occurred, at least as far as the Senate is concerned.
This is great news if it comes to pass. Two people may lose their jobs but this could also create some jobs for independent trash haulers. Maybe taxes will go down!
This may be true for most people's thinking but it isn't to Ms. Murphy. I can't see where jail would help her unless there also was medical evaluations and appropriate treatments.
I do not wish them in my neighborhood. What if someone had been in one of these structures? A homeless person maybe? Hopefully the courts will take a dim view on these arsonists.
Really enjoyed the editorial as it was more than fair and I praise all the people who voted for this takeover. Down the road, they will never be sorry. I have to strongly disagree with smedley and maybe he should move to Nevada. It is a very "up and coming" State, or so I hear.
Pepper pinetree is right but the police can't be everywhere. Newsworthy? you betcha!
The jerks who did this are in every town or city in Maine. What would be really newsworthy is when (or if) caught, their pictures were on the front pages of all newspapers plus where they live, instead of the slap on the pinkie and never making the newspaper.
Taxpoor, you hit the nail right on the head! A few years back , they would all be Tarred and Feathered! How times have changed and I do not believe for the better. Do the gays really think a piece of paper is going to make people think differently about them? In fact, times are changing so fast the gays may not care if they are "married" or not. What does Islam say about them? And they may well be our future leaders.
Why pay a phone company bucks for caller ID if the numbers cannot be believed? These "Spoofing" companys are truly scary when the Federal courts see nothing wrong in what they are selling.
