compassion for drunk, texting driver

I have read a lot about having compassion in the comments to this story. I believe in having compassion. But more importantly, I believe is being responsible. I believe this young lady and young man who survived the accident should be held accountable for their lack of responsibility. The fact she had been drinking, and then to top that she was texting while driving is not being responsible. Their are consequences to your actions

Good Shepherd Food Bank

I believe that the founder of Good Shepherd, Joanne Pike would have a fit if she saw this being run as a business. Joanne founded the foodbank on the scripture, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" and also "freely you have received freely give." I can remember volunteering to sort the food during a 3 or 4 hour shift. At the end of the shift the volunteers were allowed to take food according to the size of their families. I understand that they have done away with volunteers and hired people to sort the food. What a shame. The vision that Joanne had has vanished.

Day of prayer

How many have actually read the proclomation signed by Governor LePage? He goes back into history, right to our founding fathers, up through the civil war, right into today's circumstances. Where were you anti prayer people, when President Bush had a national day of prayer after 9/11. Didn't hear all these complaints then. And how about when the President signs the proclomation for a National Day of Prayer in May? It's about time we had a leader who recognizes where we are supposed to be in times of trouble. I agree with the previous poster who said if this isn't your thing, then don't participate. As a Bible believing Christian, I will be participating in this great day. I will be praying for this state and nation as I try to do everyday. May we never forget the words and wisdom of our founding fathers as they prayed and sought God's guidance in establishing this great country.

So called Gay Marriage

Here we go again. Hasn't this issue been voted on twice and been rejected twice by the people in the state of Maine? I guess three strikes and you're out. Why do the gay and lesbians feel they have to force this issue down our throats? As far as I know they have the same rights and privileges as everyone else. Please stop the nonsense and let's work together on more important issues like jobs and ending unemployment, helping people stay in their homes etc.

Health Insurance

It's about time that the state legislature did something about Health Insurance in Maine. It will be great to allow more competition by allowing Mainers to buy health insurance across state lines. It will drive down the rates. We can now actually shop for our health insurance. It is interesting to hear the Dems and liberals complaining about how this bill was "ramrodded" through the legislature. Do they recall another health care bill being passed in DC? If memory serves me correct, backroom deals were made to secure votes, debate was cut off and Obamacare was shoved down our throats. Where were the Dems and Liberals then? I didn't hear them complaining that the health care bill was "ramrodded" through Congress. What goes around comes around.

Mary Martin Retirement

Mary is the epitome of what a principal should be. She is a hands on person. My Wife was the music teacher for approximately 4 years. After every concert, Mary was always busy putting chairs away, picking up trash and doing whatever needed to be done. She had the respect of the staff and students alike. It will be very hard to replace a person like Mary. I hope her retirement is filled with happiness and time to spend with her family

Democrat Kool Aid

It was the House Speaker who said, and I quote "let's pass the bill and then read to see what is in it."
If this bill was so good, why did Nancy and Harry have to twist some democrat arms and make some last minute
back room deals to get it passed?
I guess the democratic kool aid must be really good.

Obamacare

If you remember when the health bill was being debated, the republicans offered a few ideas which were rejected by the democrats. They suggested a limit on lawsuits involving doctors. That was turned down. They offered the idea of allowing us to by health insurance across state lines like we do with care insurance. That was turned down. Then when it came time to vote for this monstrosity, arms had to be twisted and backroom deals made in order to get the number of votes needed to pass it. Then when asked for the chance to read the 1000 pages or so, the former speaker said, "Let's pass the bill and then find out what is in it." Doesn't that make sense. Now that the republicans have acted on their campaign promise to repeal this terrible bill, why is Harry Reid afraid to let come to the senate floor for debate?

First, do you really think that Mainers are going to get the high paying jobs? I doubt it. Second, if you think times are tough now, wait until those that are struggling now try to hit that one big payoff only to lose everything. About teachers, my wife taught for approximately 35 years. She was a music teacher. She not only taught instrumental, but did chorus and general music. She also gave free guitar lessons before and after school. She offered holiday musicals in the fall which she did on her own time. She would attend her students sporting events. She had 2 years to go for retirement but was laid off this summer and replaced with a kid out of college to save money. Tell me if the system is fair

Mark B. I wouldn't exactly

Mark B. I wouldn't exactly call Obama a democratically elected president. Do you recall the black panther thugs with their billy clubs outside a polling place in Pennsylvania? Does the name Acorn mean anything to you? I could go on. Although I respect the office of President, I do not respect Obama. He and his cronies have taken this country down the wrong road and it will take us a long time to right the ship. As far as Paul Lepage is concerned, though I do not agree with the choice of words, I am glad that we have a candidate that is not going to cater to the masses to be politically correct. It's time we have a politician who will speak his mind. I wish we had that in Washington. By the way, maybe Lepage should use a teleprompter like our communicater in chief then he would be politically correct

Brad Plante

I am sorry to see Brad leaving our town. In my dealings with Brad, I found him to be fair and honest. My first encounter with Brad happened shortly after he became town manager. I had an incident at my home one afternoon which precipitated me calling the police. The next day I received a call from Brad. After discussing the situation that day, he kept in touch with me and eventually remedied the situation. As far as I am concerned, Brad was a doer. I hope that our town council will take that into regard when hiring the next town manager. In the meantime, Godspeed to you Brad. You will be missed by this Harrison resident as well as many others I am sure.

Music Teacher meets with Olympia Snow

Kudos to Lee Libby for taking action on a drastic situation. RSU 16 was blessed to have 3 very qualified excellent elementary music teachers. The kids were getting a first rate music class in the schools. When the cutbacks occurred most or not all of the other positions were filled in house by the end of the school year. The elementary music position was the only position advertised in public and all three of the teachers had to apply as though they were applying for the first time. They were left hanging in the air for the last 2 months of school not knowing what their fate was. I understand a teacher fresh from college was hired to "SAVE DOLLARS" I presume. Were any administration positions cut? Did the administration take any cuts? I doubt it. What Mr. Duquette and his administration has done is virtually end the music teaching careers of three individuals. I hope they are happy.

Salary

With teacher positions being cut because of so called budget cuts, with programs being reduced or cut due to lack of money, why is the administration not taking cuts. A salary of $103,000 dollars is totally ridiculous in this present economy. And especially in an area such as Oxford Hills where people are still unemployed and would be grateful to get a salary of 35,000 to 40,000 per year. I have nothing against the new superintendent, I don't even know the man, but it seems to me that this is a ridiculous amount of money to be paid in this present economy.

Now that the good citizens of

Now that the good citizens of the town of Paris have shown us how to get rid of the

individuals who like to control things, maybe we can share that with the rest of the

country and get rid of the present administration who are attempting to control

us.  The people of Massecheusets started the ball rolling, let's keep it going to November

of this year and in 2012
