Robert, if you just look on the internet a bit, you will see that the Meals on Wheels recipients also receive frozen meals for the weekends, if they need them. For days where the weather won't allow delivery, they have been given "Storm Packs" which tide them over.

My mom needed Meals on Wheels at one point and was too proud to ask for it. She lived in another state, over 400 miles away, and did not want to move closer to me, and my employment did not give me the option to move to her location. Because it was very hard for her to get up out of a chair, she lost over 20 lbs because she simply would not make herself meals when it hurt too much to move around. It was a blessing for her to go into assisted living because at least she was eating regularly and had help when she had problems moving around. If she had meals on wheels, she would have been able to remain living on her own for at least another year.
