It was crazy.... The scary part was my 8 yr old daughter had just come inside from riding her bike like 5 mins before it all started. One of the casing was barely 5 feet from where she was drawing on the sidewalk. One of the men scaled my fence, a few mins later we found bullet casings at the end of my driveway. This is the third time this week! Time to get out of here. No wonder its called dirty lewiston. I dont want to think what might have happened had my daughter not come inside when she did.
it's not that I hate massachusettes just the idiots that live there. There are some good ones there but when they come here and speed down rural streets and give you the F$#k off look just because you won't let them pass, they honk thier horns. I drive school bus and I've seen more plates from mass pass my bus in a school zone where it's 15 mph doing 40-45 or faster. It's a school zone for the safety of the kids. Of course the ones from mass don't care because there kids are in mass. If the guy wanted to sell pot tell him to stay in mass we don't need any more trash here we have enough already.
it's not just drunk driving any more. It's driving under the influence of anything, drugs, tiredness, rage, depression. If you have any of these don't drive. Call a friend. Texting, and using the cell phone are also on the list. C'mon people get real. You're going to kill someone someday if not yourself. I don't want it to be me or any of my loved ones.
fish tanks are calming. They are known to help lower people's blood pressure. I have a 55 gallon with only three fish. I have two 7 inch oscars, a 8 inch algea eater and a crayfish. They eat out of my hands. They are work but worth it. I also have two cats that love to sit by the fish tank and watch them. Although my fish don't find the cats amusing, and they tell them by attacking the sides of the tank and telling them that. Overall I think all sit down restaurants should have fishtanks in them.
I've had that happen to me as well. I moved out into my first apt at the age of 24. I was a late leaver. Anyway this was when cmp was on main street at the old ritz theater, I went to get my elec hooked up in my name. Low and behold they wouldn't give me service until I paid a past due bill of 350.00!! I told them I never had elec in my name ever. They thought I was joking. I had the same name, birthday and middle initial as the other customer, except the other customer was 10 years older than me.
It happened again in '89 when I was working at the irving on minot ave. A vender for uncle henry's came in to bring in new copies and pick up the old outdated ones. AS I signed the slip the vender looked at me confused and surprised. Seems her name was also Cathy Bryant. Same birthdate, same middle initial, but 1 yr younger. You never realize you'll ever meet somneone with the same name let alone everything the same except for year of birth. The third time it happened was in Pa. I got pulled over for expired tags the officer kept trying to tell me I was using the wrong license number or that I had given him the wrong license number. I had my license since 84, this was 93. I knew my number by heart. There is no way I have two licenses with different numbers from the same state. The picture was the same. it seems that somehow when i renewed my license my picture was put on a different license with a different number. However before I received the license in the mail they realized the mistake, and sent me the one with the right numbers on it. but in doing that they forgot to cancel out the other one. So someone had the right license but according to the license pic it wasn't her it was me. I've had credit cards sent to me in my name already activated with my name on them that I never sent for or filled out an application for. I remember getting a 10,000 credit limit for american express. I could have used it right there. Has my address and name on it. But I didn't. I opened the letter not thinking then when I realized what it was called the company and told them of the mistake. Sure enough the person had the same birthday, same name and middle initial, but was 10 yrs older than I was. I was 25 at the time she was 35. So it happens then they try to blame you for their mistake, it can be frustrating though.
they make harnesses for your dog that clip onto to the seat belts. You should always have your pet secured in the car. They are in fact part of your family! Little dogs should never ride in laps especially of drivers. Thats as bad as letting your infant sit in your lap while you are driving. Glad eveyone was ok, sorry about your dog.
exactly. Then at least the single parents can collect child support. Make the users and abusers and losers work for minimum wage and give the money they make to the people they defrauded or owe money too. But then again the other side of the coin, if they're not making money where will they live? In a shelter? Who pays for that, We do! No matter what there are always pros and cons to every solution. But it would be a start.
Well i have one. I was paying almost 100 a month for my cell phone. But I don;t use the free phone because they are junk. The one I have doesn't charge and you only get 250 mins a month and if you don't call on the 10th every month they shut the phone off. I went back to my old cell but turned it into a go phone with a set amount every month. Still the free phone is good for emergencies. If nothing else.
I work with a few somalians and some are always bragging about thier business, or my phone. arghhh shut up already. I have a jeep with front end problems, a cable bill thats over due and an elec bill that's due. I've had people tell me to drop cable and save some money, that's all fine but I'm taking online college courses and can't just dump cable. They think that I can just drop school and pick it up once my finances get better, but what they don't realize is it still costs me money to drop classes, then I have to re- apply for student aid and then they look into why I dropped in the first place and become reluctant to approve me again. That's just like in the summer, I took my daughter to the pool in kennedy park and there are rules. There were two or three somalian kids that were oblivious to the rules and the lifeguards had to throw them out of the pool. Well the parents of the kids went ballistic and tried to say it was racist. Well they come over here then they expect everything to be handed to them. I drive school buses and I have to deal with somalian children. For the most part they are ok. You have those that don't care, they hit each other spit, steal whatever but when you single them out you get blamed for being biased. There are rules and the people that were here first US The native's can't get the same treatment anymore. Most of the jobs are gone to somalians. Look at walmart. They can't even speak english. They need to follow our rules, learn our language and get the same priveliges not be treated like they are above the law. That is the reason most of us "honest" struggling citizens are upset. This is only heresey but I hear they get up to 3000.00 a month! I could be wrong but if I got that I could see why i had no worries. There are many problems here not just with the refugees, and dhhs but that's for another place and time. I think DHHS should be held accountable when they make a mistake and make someone else pay for it. I get 282.00 a month for foodstamps. which when you think of it doesn't go very far. My dad used to spend 200 a week. I think as far as cash benefits go if you are eligible to work after so much time you should be taken off the system. I only get food stamps and maine care. Heating assistance is only during the winter. I only make about 200 per week because I only work 20 hrs a week. That's only when school is in session. I don't make money in the summer unless I get unemployment or find a part time summer job that lets me pay my bills and be able to afford day care for my daughter. So to you silent citizens don;t be afriad to speak up. What are they going to do, lock you up?
I think you should be able to buy hot food on foodstamps. What about those who have nothing to cook on? Of course you would have to put restricitons on going to a restaurant to buy a 25.00 steak or whatever, but go to shaws and buy a hot soup from the salad bar should be allowed. They can also regulate the purchase of cigs and alchohol on ebt cards. There are ways that They can also regualte the purchase of drugs.
Well what about when the honest individual trying to support their child the best they can. when they get a new job and report changes within the 10 days like they are supposed to. Then they keep getting the same benefit amount because they didn't realize anything because DHHs was supposed to know what they are doing. Then that person gets a letter saying that because we(DHHS) didn't act in a timely manner, you were overpaid and we are keeping your cash benefits and taking 40 a month off of your food stamps. So This individual who did nothing wrong and is complying with the system, and who is supposed to be receiving child cupport ona regualr basis but isn't, gets penalized for something that person didn't do. So that when they file thier state taxes DHHS takes thier money? What part of wrong does that fall under? Why should the ones that are on the program and doing their best to get off pay for DHHS mistake? Why don't they go after the noncustodial parent who isn't paying support yet has a job and buys a new car or whatever. In fact that person got a letter form the state agency where the non custodial father lives saying he never showed up for court and now has a writ of body attachment. Whatever that means. There are a lot of somalian refugee's that have store they got on welfare money. There was one buying a whole bunch of 5 pound bags of sugar. Thought she was going to do some baking but she was buying them to resell at her store. Sad part is she bought them with foodstamps. Imagine that. Do you think they get in trouble for that. yea right. They get everything handed to them because they are refugee's. I pay my own rent and bills, all I get from the state is foodstamps and maine care and some heating assistance. 105.00 every three months. That isn't even 50 gallons. That might last 2 weeks. By the time i pay my rent, bills, buy houshold items, and clothes for my daughter i have nothing left for gas for my car, or to even fix it. God forbid I have to pay a cab to go grocery shopping. If I didn't get foodstamps I wouldn't have food for my daughter. I'd have to go to the foodbank and I think that should be in place for those who have absolutely nothing. I have a roof over my head and a job. So in other words DHHS is as much at fault as the ones who defraud welfare. Pregnant for 40 months? Where is the prenancy test from the Dr's office confirming that. Oh wait they don;t even check that. That is a document that can be forged really easy. DHHs should be required to call the Dr. to confirm it. It's usually the same ones who abuse the system anyway. this definitely has to be reformed. If you take a look most of the somalians all have new or newer cars, or minivans, the latest cell phone, clothes etc... But then we the working folk don't have the money to buy a car, or to repair the one they do have yet it seems I see more somalians running cab companies, opening businesses etc. When is that going to stop and let us all be equal. I pay taxes like everyone else, I work for a living and I go to school.
If the teachers would give the kids homework, not just little stuff and the parents would get the kids of the video games there wouldn't be any kids left behind. My daughter is a third grader working at 6th grade levels. But the system isn't challenging her enough and she gets bored easy. Everything she is doing now she was doing in kindergarten because I was teaching her. It seems that teachers don't correct spelling errors, instead we just tell the kids good job? What happens when they get older and you tell them they have been spelling constitution wrong? constitushun. They will be even more confused and might even get upset and say well it wasn't wrong then because no one told me it was spelled wrong.
We need to spend more time with our kids then what we do now. Now we let them watch tv, play video games while we do our things. This is wrong.
take the veterans bridge from center street or take minot ave by the rollerdrome.
there are many different ways between aub and lew so you can avoid the traffic
I drive school bus so I know what you are talking about. Bartlett and birch street are really bad when schools get out. Kids are trying to cross with the crossing guard. Twice I saw a somalian driver in a jeep almost hit a kid because he went through the stop sign, Then he almost hit a car that was turning because he went through the stop sign at the same time. We just need to send the somalians back to africa. I have nothing against somalians except that they need to learn our laws and aboey them. There is no special privileges just because you are from some other country. We work, pay taxes, follow our laws. But when you go around thinking you can do whatever whenever that's so wrong. I saw one on the interstate almost flip over because she was on the phone trying to text or something. They can't just use translators and get their licenses. They need to go through driver's ed. Nobody cares anymore. They are so worried about getting where they want to go, they just don't think. Today driving the school bus on sabattus and randall, I was in the right lane turning right and the car next to me starts coming into my lane. How can you miss a 48 ft bus that 12 ft wide and bright yellow sitting right next to you? Maybe they should put those spikes that they put in parking lots that pop your tires if you go the wron way in the streets. The kind that go down when you go over them the right way and stay up when you don't. But of course that will cost too much and not be practical. The somalians don't even know how to use the sidewalks. Instead they walk in the middle of the road and expect you to move for them.
ash, pine, howe, all those streets are bad. Especially horton coming from ash or pine. People park on the corner to go the bank or to the store, park on the side of horton street where there is no parking signs. People don't stop at stop signs. There are a lot of kids around getting on and off buses. Those streets are all 25 mph. Slow down!!!!!!! I live on horton street and since I have been here there have been 6 accidents in the area of horton and pine, howe, walnut and bartlett. Plus people have been turning left from bartlett to ash. Ash is one way, you can only turn right if you are coming from sabattus street. If you are coming from walnut street you can only turn left. If you don't know the area look at the signs. Every street is clearly marked. Since ash street is now a one lane road, there needs to be no parking. There isn't enough room when there is snow. Best thing to do is just slow down.
Why doesn't all the members of the legislation take cuts on their payroll and their insurance coverage and see if they can manage. I'm already fighting DHS because of a mistake they made and because of their mistake my income tax refund is in jeopardy. I've already lost my maine state refund. This is wrong. DHS takes money from people who are on the system because of the mistake DHS made. That's not right. Why should the people be punished for a mistake that wasn't their fault. Stop spending other people's money. I work as much as I can so That my 8 yr old can go to school and have food, a roof what I make versus my rent and bills barely lets me have any money left over for dr visits, car repairs or basic household necessities, toothpaste, toilet paper etc.... Why don't they take it back from the people who defrauded DHS. I have mainecare but I don't have dental. Maine care only pays $8.00 for eyeglasses and they break all the time because they are cheap. The only way I can get mainecare to pay for a dentist is if I break a tooth or need one pulled. I can't just go to the dentist to fill a cavitiy or to have my teeth cleaned. That isn't fair. The legislature is supposed to be helping those citizens that are having a hard time. Instead of going on those fancy vacations, buying that new car why don't some of you Take your bonuses and put it back into the system. If I could afford to live like that I would give up my bonuses. It's about caring, oh wait the only thing the legislature cares about is what in their pockets and who they can screw next.!!! I'm all for rules and regulations but it needs to apply to everyone. Starting with the lawmakers.
well then fine the ones who drop the butts on the ground. But really it will be hard to fine because it will cost more to have someone patrol to find these smoking law breakers. They need to just ban cigarettes period. They ban most everything else anyway. People don't like to wear seatbelts but they do because they know they will get a ticket if they don't. I've actually had people pull in my driveway and dump their ashtray on the ground and leave. I quit smoking 12 years ago and I dropped one butt on the ground and got yelled at by my neighbor. That was the last time I did that.
doesn't matter if you are near someone when smoking. It's still in the air. Do you think that just because you are in a smog infested town you can just go to the next town and not have it? Wrong. it's in the air. it's like pollen it flows through the air. remember that nuclear fiasco in china? the particles from that registered all the way here in Maine.so just because you're not smoking near someone don't think it doesn't affect us. I'm an ex smoker. i can tell if a person smokes while walking down the street. I can smell it from the car in front of me. It's called second hand smoke. You are forcing us to breathe it in even if you didn't mean it.
why not make more cigarette butt canisters near popular smoking places. You can find a street light or street sign on almost any corner. Why not put these near bus stops, outside grocery stores, in parking lots. We have to pay for garbage disposal which comes once a week. It may cost more but in the end it will cost less. Less cleanup, less mess, and less damage to the environment.
Sorry to say the the luck that was with the giants 4 yrs ago won't be there this year. Welker is playing, gronk and hernandez weren't on the team, chung and others weren't on the team 4 yrs ago either. Brady won't make the same mistakes. Branch is back and knows almost what brady is thinking. Also ocho though not having a very impressive season is there for the first time. So watch the pats come out on fire and continue to do what they do best. come back against haters. This will be a good game but the outcome will be very different. 38-21 Patriots on top.
I do check my mirrors every 4-6 seconds. I drove rigs too. first though truck drivers have maps, and little things called gps. Before he even left with his load he should have plotted a better route or at least looked at all his options knowing the roads were bad. Also if the pickup driver had looked in his mirrors he would have seen the truck and maybe could have got out of the way. Also if you had read the rest I did say check your mirrors.
If the driver of the bus saw the truck he could have tried to get the bus out of the way. get over to the right as mich as possible and tell your students to get to the right side of the bus. The pick up truck too. thats why you always watch your mirrors and your front all the time. I was sitting at a red light with my B/f and this dump truck came up right behind us over the hill. I looked in the mirror and saw it wasn't stopping. I pulled into the ditch as for as i could which was the best thing i ever did. The truck ran the red light and slammed into the telephone pole that was on the right side of the road where we were sitting. We were in a 280z we would not have survived. He split the pole in two. he would have slammed us into it the force of hitting the pole and the truck would have killed us. I made the right choice that day. I always look in the mirror. If there is a red light and somone ins't in front of me or traffic i will go through the light to avoid a collision. or pull over as far as possible. I would rather get stuck in the ditch then become roadkill. The semi was going 25 in a 45 so he was going slow. While I agree he shouldn't have gone in the opposite lane, he thought he had enough time to get in the other lane. But he should have tried to head into a snow bank. If it were me I would have told my student to get back in the bus ans turned off my reds let the pickup go then the whole thing could have been avoided. So don't pick on the driver he reacted. Would you have thought to do it differently if you were in that situation? Doesn't matter what they teach you in drivers ed, what happens when you get ito a skid, takes a lot of thought, sometimes you react because there isn't a lot of time to react. By the way, I'm a school bus driver. You can't avoid everything but you can sure try and prepare for it.
I think there should be a curfew on young drivers. As far as teens working a job where they need to drive maybe the business ought to change the hours.
teens 16-17 can drive until 9pm then an adult or other driver with say at least 1 yr driving experience drive the night hours, still no cell phone use allowed while at work unless pulled over. but on another note, there are still teens that have the experience but one they are on their own seem to make thier own rules and forget what they were taught. I have been driving since 1984, Have had one major accident and a few fender benders where no one was seriously hurt. It,s not just the young driver it's the other driver as well. The young driver without the road experience may panic and slam the brakes on causing other events. I think if a teen really wants to be independent they need to follow the rules and take extra time to gain the experience before hitting the roads alone. I also had a friend who had gotten her license a few weeks before she had an accident and was killed along with 2 of her friends. Speed, weather, other drivers and many other factors play roles in serious accidents. I think it would be a good thing.
Parents need to step in and take the cell phones. The teens don't need them in school or while driving. There are still payphones believe it or not. Now a days teens seem to be attatched at the hip to the electronics. I didn't have a phone when I was a teen. We barely had pagers. Remember the first text while driving could be your last. It's not ok to text at a red light either. If todays' teen's want to be viewed as responsible enough to take the car out they have to stop texting. im guilty of using my cell while driving but I don't text. I'm a school bus driver and since I've become a school bus driver I don't use the phone while driving unless I pull over first. So you're late because you pulled over to use your phone, at least you got there. Parents put your foot down. There is no need to drive while on the phone or text while driving. It starts with the parents. If you care about your kids then you need to set the example. Nothing is as important as staying safe on the roads. If a friend gets annoyed beacuse you didn't answer there call so what. If they truly care they'll understand. you can always have your passenger text for oyu if it's that important. If you don't have a passenger pull over or wait.
there are a few semi feral kittens arond my house. They did go near one older gentleman that was feeding them. I haven't seen him in a while now and the cats still come around. i have been trying to catch them with my have a heart because they are not even a yr old they were born this past june. They will need time to be socialized but are young enough to do that. I will attempt to catch them and being them in to the shelter.
You're cruel. this mother is missing her child and is trying to help find her. The media may be her last hope to find her. If police had found Ayla's body you would have heard about it. give it a break. What if it was your child, you would be in the media as well until you found your child. I know I would.
If it had been my daughter she would have kicked the crap out of him. It's all the parents fault. the kids are emulating the parents because the parents don't spend time with them. Or are too busy drinking and doing drugs. When I was 14 I had a job. I was working at Luiggi's for my parents. This kid is crying for attention. Parents listen to your kids. There is nothing more important than the kids. The parents ought to do the right thing and pay back the little girl their son robbed.
Thats' also where he should have had the state send something to the mother stating he was taking a lower paying job. if the mother had any common sense she would have realized he was doing his best. I'd rather have the dad in my daughter's life than the money anyway. but the money really helps. If he were in his daughters life and told me all he could send was 50.00 I'd be ok with that. But he doesn't even answer my letters.
Better than my previous post, why doesn't the state require you to show your picture id when you use the ebt card. Those who are home bound and have someone else shopping for them ought to have that person registered as the authorized pick up person and have that person show id. That will nip that in the bud. You have to do that with wic. You need the book that wic checks come in and you have to sign the checks. They are not transferable either. If you are not on the card as the authorized person you can't get the items. I've always had to show id whn I was on wic. it doesn't cost anything either.
How can it be too costly? We all have Id's dont we? Those who don't drive need a picture id to cash thier checks. So why is it too expesive. Why can't they take it out of the benifits one time and get everyone a picture on their card. Or make the EBT user sign their name on a paper. That way it can be double checked against the owner .
Actually texas is tougher than maine. There is a website i think it's called deadbeats and it shows men and woman who have not paid child support. They can be behind for as little as 500.00 and they get their licenses revoked and go to jail. Of course with no income because they are in jail, the custodial parent doesn't get anything because the noncustodial isn't making any money. I think that deadbeats shouldn't get any kind of assistance, loans, food, housing or stuff like that until they are caught up with child support.
Or what about those dads who pay when they feel like it but when DHS catches up with him through his job, right before they garnish his paycheck he quits his job. He's remarried and has another daughter and two step kids but doesn't acknowledge his first born daughter. So there are three kids getting support form thier biological dad and thier step dad, while his oldest daughter gets nothing. That's not right. If their are other kids in the mix they should make sure the biological dad pays for all of them not just the ones he lives with. I go without so my daughter doesn't. It's hard to catch him because he lives out of state.
I don't hunt but I have atteneded hunter safety. you don't shoot at anything unless you can see it completely in your sights. If you're not sure don't shoot!!!. Plus dogs are a lot shorter than deer. C'mon officer you know better than that. Do you shoot a kid or person if they look like they have a gun or do you wait til the last possible second to see if its actually a gun?? If you can only see a tail you need to wait and Identify the target before shooting. The woman should have been wearing orange along with her dogs but it's up to the hunter to use better judgement. Good luck on a full recovery for the woman.
It's about time officers aren't afraid to arrest one of their own. I've seen many officers cause needless accidents because they were in a hurry and used thier authority to get away with speeding, and drinking.
if you read the headlines "4 killed in palermo accident... That should be self explanatory. There were 4 men, tyler, dennis, kyle, and roy. I understood who died, all four men two brothers and a father and son.
Im struggling myself this year, so I got my daughter to go through her toy box and get the toys she doesn;t play with anymore, then we went to the store and bought some toys for boys because all we have are girls toys. We couldn't afford much but we gave some to another family. It just goeas to show you don't have to be rich to help. I've been on the other end when I didn't know what i was going to do. My daughter is first after bills and food. I go without. Bet we always try to help. We help the shelters for the kids and for the animals at least once a year as much as we can. We brought our donations at 11 am to the back door. So those kids who have nothing will have a christmas after all. Cathy and Skyler
I drive the special needs van to windham highschool and there are too many drivers not going the school speed limit. When the lights are flashing the speed limit is 15 mph. I have cars pass me at 40!!! People you need to slow down!! Im sorry if you are late. Leave earlier. What if it's your child crossing the street and you're in such a hurry to get to work that you hit and kill your own child? or your neighbors, or even someone child you don't know? For the sake of the kids and other drivers please slow down and adhere to the speed limits in school zones. Remember we voted for this law. Let's keep our kids safe.... I am a bus driver and I see this all the time.
I have toys that my daughter outgrew we were going to save them for a yard sale but we would rather help those who could use them. We have toy computers, leap pads and stuffed animals. We will drop them off. It's better that way, plus when we needed help people like hope haven came through for us and made my daughter's christmas special. we decided to pay it forward.
That has happened to me, my coworkers all got together and bought me and my daughter a complete turkey dinner, if there were more people like that in the world people would actually have a reason to smile. If we would all come together to help instead of blaming or judging the people asking for help or even the ones who don't ask for help, that really need it, we would all get along much better. Granted, there are those that will still ruin someone's good deed or happiness just because they can, but most of us do have a heart. Christmas is not about what you get, but what you give. I would rather see a smile on a childs face or an elderly persons face from a card, toy or just an I love you or even a hug than seeing a new tv, or computer game under my tree. A smile is priceless everything else is just overpriced and materialistic.
Oh great. now what are people like me going to do? We work our tail off, just to make it to next weeks paycheck, we can't afford to go get new eyeglasses, or take our kids to the dentist because we can barely afford rent and bills. a lot of people were upset because the casino was defeated, now they are cutting health care. Maybe if they look at what is more important they will see that a casino is not important. Those who need medicaid won't get their meds and could die. So then who would be able to go to the casino when they are dead or in the hospital on oxygen because they couldn't afford their meds. Why can't Lepage work for nothing? His lives off us taxpayers. I think it should work this way, we elect the officials, president, governor, mayor etc... they work for us. Why should we go without. We hired them shouldn't we have the right to say what we want them to do with our money?.. We can't drive without wearing a seatbelt, we can't smoke in our cars, or in a restaurant, we can't wear or nose rings, or lip rings, and we have to cover up our tattoos for fear of offending someone. We deal with that, but we won't deal with more cuts to our health care. There are way too many people out of work that need it. Yes there are some that take advantage of the system... but there are also lots of us that have always worked our whole lives that got laid off, or downsized and for the first time finding ourselves needing some help. Where are those people who used to be happy to help? Oh wait... The government took everything they had and gave it to those who came here from some other country and said, here have this, these other people won't need it. They've lived here all their lives they now how to survive. Those who live here don't have any say. We now have to let the others have what they want.
im on welfare because i dont have a choice. i dont get child support i am a single mom i work i go without so my daughter can have things. if it weren't for my daughter i would be working three fulltime jobs etc... without any assistance. even if i work 3 jobs now id only be working to support my babysitter and never see my daughter. I saw someone at walmart with a sign,, traveling home. broke anything will help. if you are broke why are you traveling. stay in one place get a job. there are jobs.. you just got to look.
have you noticed the refugees each have the latest phone, or a nice new vehicle, even the newest style clothes or sneakers. They didn't have what they have in their native home. What about the people here don't we count? I would love to have the latest phone or a new car or one that isn't falling apart. money to start a business etc... just saying
im a single mom working and living paycheck to paycheck. I have to pay my rent a little at a time. i can't afford to do laundry, or buy my daughter new clothes or even fix my vehicle let alone pay for heat. each month i have to decide which bill to pay and which bill to let slide. this month my phone was shut off. so was my cable and I'm taking online classes. my heat assitance is 180.00 per month enough for approx 50 gallons. unfortunately most oil companies only deliver a minimum of 100 gals. i cant afford 50 gals what makes you think i can afford 100 gals. 50 gals wont last a week. i dont have control over the thermostat either. The government needs to stop worrying about cutting health care and heating. why don't they cut down on their vacations, and that new car they just bought. the majority of us that are receiving help would rather be able to afford it on our own. I would go cold if i had to but i have an 8 yr old. They keep cutting down on the things we need help with the most.
I heard that he's from missippi and hasn't been here long. We need to stop taking in everybody's refugees and fix the problems here first. The refugees are bsginning to think they can run the place and all of us that have been here don't have a say in the matter.
That's why you need to teach your teens that no matter what let their parents know where they are at all times. Your parents may not like it but at least they know you're safe.
Busing ensures that students get to school safely. Some parents can't take there kids too school or live too far out. It's easier to transport larger groups of kids with less problems. imagine if all the kids either walked to school or there parents brought them or picked them up. longer waits at school, more traffic. Plus bus drivers are also people that see what your kids is doing everyday when you're not around and before they get to school. Get rid of busing and there will be lots of kids not going to school because there parents may not have a vehicle or means to get their child to school.
Why can't special needs kids go to the same schools but have the special ed teachers and have separate classrooms? they would get the specialized help they need but would also be able to interact with other students. These special needs kids are like any other kids except with a disability to be able to communicate in a way the kids without disability would understand. Kids are kids. They like everyone. Unless we as parents tell our kids that this person is different and you should stay away or whatever. then kids will be kids and they will make friends. We teach our kids early about segregation without even realizing it. Granted there are many races somalians, african americans, asians etc,,, among the people of the community also going to our schools, it only takes one from each nationality to make us all look at them and judge them. We are all people with needs. Yes some take advantage of the system but so do americans whether you are white black, yellow, whatever. As you stated " the single best teacher for young kids as other young kids." Kids relate better to someone that is just like them. So one school for different grades shouldn't be so difficult. We need to teach these kids and let them grow. Kids react to a safe calm environment better than a hostile one. Why not let the kids decide? They are the ones that are going to school, we've been there.
I went to EL and graduated in 84. That was a great school. It was clean and well suited. Of course there was the time when three students broke in and set fire to three of the science labs while high on cocaine. Anyway, I lived in texas and tey have a school its an ISD school which is K-12 It works. It may be a small town, but it saves on bussing the students, and helps because you can keep track of your kids and they can also grow with the teachers that has been there since they started. My daughter went to kindergarten in texas and before she even reached 1st grade was already doing 5th grade lessons. Why have schools all over the place like we have now? I'm a school bus driver for lewiston and it's a pain when you have three runs for three different schools. they all have to stagger starting times so that the kids can get to school on time. Then when one is late getting the kids on or off the bus then we are late picking up the next group of kids. Just a thought. I went to st pats for Kindergarten then I moved to poland where it was k-8 then I had to go to St Joe's now is trinity which is across the street from the old st joe's, then went to Walton then EL. I think it's just confusing. You have to leave your friends, or get used to new teachers and familiar territory. I think it upsets the kids learning having to go to different schools for different grades. Just my opinion.
Well after watching a national geographic show on illegal hunting of tigers in china, I will never eat at a chinese restaurant again. they showed chinese cooking everytihng from dogs to cats to foxes and other types of animals. while i was watching they actually video taped a woman taking a puppy that looked like a husky, alive and butchering it right on tv. So you're not far off. So just remember that teryaki stick might not be the pork or beef you expect, but just might be someone's lost or stolen pet. There may be some real chinese restaurants that only serve pork and beef, but I'm not willing to take that chance anymore.
I think it ought to be used for the seniors as the multi purpose center is crowded and there is a need for more space for the school kids. Then the seniors will have a place to go to see friends, play bingo, or knit, and just enjoy life. We don't need anymore bars or restaurants. or low income houseing as there are lots of empty apts already.
No one pays attention anymore. cyclists and pedestrians still have to watch for turning cars. Granted if they are in a crosswalk they have the right of way. but to wait to cross until the light turns green and a car starts turning is suicide. last night i was behind a car going up college st. It turned left on bartlett then started turning left on ash st. I honked but the car turned anyway and almost ran the car coming down ash street off the road. People also stop at ash and bartlett because they think there is a stop sign. I've had cars at the bridge on main st run through red lights almost rear-ending me. So pay attention. Get off the phone, wear reflective clothing and use a bike light. cyclists have to follow the rules as if they were driving a car. They have the right of way but only if they follow the rules. eveyone is always in a hurry and have no patience anymore.
People don't care anymore. what was fun to share and have a good time with is now don't let anyone see what you have or it might get stolen. people are greedy, and selfish, and lazy. People turn the other way when someone needs help because they think that person is just lazy. But what they don't understand is they may have been victim to a fire, job loss or other disaster and maybe they weren't elegible for help. I've been there. I was living in florida but my job, and apt fell through. I had no money for food, shelter or anything. So I went to apply for temporary assitance, cash, foodstamps etc.. Well I was denied food stamps because I didn't have a 40 hr a week job. Well if I had a 40 hr a week job I wouldn't have needed foodstamps! Of course things have changed a little bit but not much. This is the season of giving. If everyone in the usa would give one dollar to everyone who needs it we would all be rich. Think about it... 7 billion people x 1.00$ equals 7 billion. I would be willing to give someone 1 dollar as opposed to 100.00?
Before any casino comes in I think we need to clean up more of the violence. Casino's breed gamblers, as well as tourists, and crime. With tourists come drugs, guns and bad seeds. Leave the casinos, to las vegas, and find other ways to bring in revenue. Like new places for the seniors, a childrens rec center, maybe another arcade. I used to love going to the dream machine in auburn. I can just see not only tourists gambling but those on welfare. Thinking they might win the big money, take the little money they get and try to win. Then when they are broke, they wonder what happened and want more money. Until we fix the crime and the economy here in our own community, i think the casino should be just that a figment of imagination or a what if. Lewiston is not the place for a casino, now or in the future.
I work with some somalians. Some aren't bad but there are some that take advantage of companies. I work with one that used to drive a school bus. He was fired because he failed to stop at the tracks, and failed to stop for police. Etc... he is on the phone while at work. luckily he's not driving, he works as an aide, but nobody is supposed to be on the phone at all unless pulled over, and have no kids in the bus. He thinks it doesn't apply to him. Then you have the ones who don't know how to drive, they run stop signs while kids are crossing the street. Etc.... There are rules we have to follow just like anyone else. You want to come here and work and expect us to treat you like everyone else, then follow our rules like everyone else or go back home!!! Plain and simple.
This is not right.. for the most part you kick out people aho need the help they go back what they do best. Drink, do drugs etc... Why can't they incoporate some of the empty buildings into shelters? why do we need new malls or new condos where people can't afford anyway? I don't get it. This ecocomy is really bad right now, and now your putting the people who need help most back on the street. even if they are using the other facility for temporary shelter a lot of people won't be able handle the transitions. Addicts are the ones who do the same actions all over. Kind of like OCD. I rhink before we start building new hotels, condo's or even casino's we better address the homeless. This state works backwards. Making it hard for those who need help to get it. Then once they get the help they throw them back on the streets.
I had to call on two occasions. once during hurricane irene because there was someone going up and down the block squealing tires and such. This was at 12 midnight!! Then I had two or three kids from across the street from my house letting off bottle rockets into my driveway where my daughter was rifing her bike!! By the time they came by the secind time they had left. They came by the first time and went right by. I came by my house today on the way back from my am run and there were three cops on pierce street again. So it's a never ending thing.

The damage was done by the defendants, not the police. The police didnt cause any further damage so I dont get the basis of the law suit. The courts could have pressed on with the case without some pictures and let the jury decide if there was enough evidence. The property that was lost was not property of the victim. Maybe he should sue all the citizens of Lewiston for not being at his apartment to stop the attack? Da, where were you? Why did't you stop the attack? Maybe he should sue you. In reality, all sarcasim aside, they were convicted of simple assault and since civil court is only preponderance of the evidence rather than beyond reasonable doubt, the ones to face the suit should be the ones convicted of the assault. But I realize there is no money there so of course, go for the deep pockets and make the tax payers suffer.
This was who I was speaking to but I reply to your comment instead. didn't mean to confuse you.
The property that was lost was not property of
the victim? It was the victims property. his laptop, his keys, his wallet? Where did you not see that this was his stuff that was stolen? hello. then the defendants tried to get money out of his account. The police may not have done the damage but they lost the evidence.
Ty. And whats even worse my nephews friend was killed from an overdose of drugs. sad part was he wasn't a user. Just goes to show that lives can be lost at any time. Why take chances especially while driving.
or at least use a headset. Why do you think there is voicemail??? So you can call the person back when it's safe. I'm guilty as well as using a cell phone while driving but I don't anymore as my job depends on it. One time caught on my cell phone while driving I lose my job. So I just turn off the ringer while Im driving. When I stop at a parking lot after my students are off the bus then I might check my messages. But i don't even bother until I'm done for the day and return home. I see young girls at red lights trying to put thier makeup on. Hello!! what happens if your are trying to put your eyeliner on at a red light and the driver behind you doesn't see you or the red light and hits you from behind? Well nmy guess is you might end up with an eyeliner pencil in your eye!! Put your makeup on at home.
I even saw a driver heading east on 202 trying to read the newspaper!! I guess it was too important to wait until they got home. In fact a 16 yr old girl Danielle Ranger was just killed when her car went off the road into a tree. She was on her phone. I know this because it was my niece that was on the phone with her at the time!! My niece was talking to her then all of a sudden she heard her scream then nothing. Then a short while later she learned her friend hit a tree and died!! So come on people Hang up the phone. Please!!!!
No I didn't miss that but do you honestly feel safe? no matter how many dealers they take off the street another one pops up. But to lose important evidence on an assault case, they are supposed to be trained not to do that. I understand they are human too. But the cops that gathered the evidence should of said, that he had the evidence to arrest them but it was misplaced. And for your information Im not criticizing the police. It doesn't matter if you wear a badge and uniform, if you have someone in cuffs that doesn't give you the right to beat him while helpless no matter what he did. I also didn't say I thought the man was innocent. Im sure he did something to get himself arrested. Plus if I was criticing those who do a dnagerous job for public safety then I would have to be dissing the whole US military in Iraq and Afghanistan for keeping us safe. Believe me I have had run ins with the police myself and they didn't care about me. In fact I was arrested years ago for a bounced check warrant that was inadvertantly forgotten about that I had already cleared. So when the cop came and arrested me instead of taking me straight downtown they sat on my road making personal plans for the weekend while I was sitting in the crusier with cuffs so tight my hands were purple. That case however was thrown out and I was also granted a harrassment suit against the arresting officer, because he was in the wrong not once, twice but three times. I also could have had an injury lawsuit because the day after and for two weeks following I couldn't feel my right hand from the thumb down to my wrist because the cuffs were too tight. Unfortunately I didn't have insurance and couldn't afford to go to the drs. Granted there are good cops and there are those who try to use their badge for their own purpose.
The cops spend too much time stopping speeders. They are also eating too many donuts. People are selling drugs under there noses and getting away with it. people that push victims around that don't fight back come back for more because the victim let them do what they want for fear of their lives. Mr Finley's only mistake was letting the girl in. Restrainig orders don't work. Police won't do anything until that person that has the order against them hurts or even kills the person who had the restraining order against them. The police saw the man bleeding walking with the two that beat him. The system doesn't work. I even saw the police walking a man in cuffs and just his underwear down horton st. The guy in cuffs pushed against one of the officers, and he ( the officer) threw the man on the sidewalk, then while the man in cuffs was face down on the sidewalk, the officer punched the man in the face. Now if that isn't police brutality I don't know what is. Regardless of what the man did, there's no need for the cop to do that while the man is handcuffed and face down on the ground.
Im a school bus driver and I see it a lot!! The person who will wait to turn left and wait and wait until there are no cars, even though he or she have had plenty of time to turn.
Or those who like to pull out right in front of you even though you are the last car in line, and then go 10 miles an hour. Then you have the ones that are doing the speed limit, then all of a sudden with no warning decide to slow down and turn, when there isn't enough time to stop, so that you are forced to change lanes and while changing lanes you have some idiot pull out right in front of you and there isn't any time to stop or change lanes this time, so you hit your brakes and spin out of control across 4 lanes of traffic at rush hour on center st in auburn by the boat launch. That happened to me in my jeep. Then when I finally came to a stop I was heading south on the northbound side of the road, and the driver that pulled out of the side street is pounding on my window saying it was my fault for changing lanes.
What about the people who are cruising in a 40 mph zone with a school zone where the lights are flashing 15 mph and they either speed up or keep cruising. I do the 15 mph because that's my job. Then you get the idiot behind you giving you the finger or shaking his head because he had to slow down. What if it's his kid that gets hit by someone not doing the speed limit.
Or what about the ones that stop at a red light where there are three intersections such as sabattus street and east ave. The light turns green for east ave but the person on sabattus street thinks the green is for themn and goes through it and almost causes a wreck.
C'mon people slow down. Well except for the people that do 20 mph in a 50 mph when we are trying to get to work on time, rt 202 heading to augusta. It's time the police start doing their job and not just pulling over speeders. I remember coming up pine street from canal. I was at the light at pine and lisbon and I had the green light. This cop came up lisbon st turned right on red as I was in the middle of the intersection and made me have to move over to the sidewalk to get out of his way. He had no lights or sirens on. I followed him. He stopped in front of he police station when it was on the corner of park and pine, and got out of his patrol car with coffee and donuts he just got at duncan donuts. Yes I confronted him about it. He tried to deny it until I threatened him with going to his CO with his badge number who was at the time my dad's best friend. He apologized and said he would pay more attention. So it's not just the civilians, the police do it as well. The same goes for the police as us, if you don't want to follow the rules of driving, then get off the roads!!!

That stretch of lisbon street is only 25/30 mph. People cruise along at 50. No wonder she had to swerve. If people would look further ahead at traffic they would be able to counter for any distractions. I drive busses for lewiston schools. A friend of my nieces was killed while she was on the phone talking to my niece when she lost control and hit a tree. Slow down. Even if she was doing the speed limit, this could have been avoided by just paying attention. So slow down! Especially in school Zones!! the speed limit is 15 mph and people go through at 45. What if it's your kid crossing or getting off the bus and gets hit? Is that what it's going to take to slow down!! I'm glad she's ok hopefully she'll pay more attention next time.
For your information, my dad and his dad lived on horton street most of their lives. 130 horton to be exact. They new all the neighbors and all would get together and have bbq's and play horseshoes. If a neighbors child had to get off the bus and their parents weren't home, they could go to the neighbors. My mom and dad owned Luiggi's that my grandfather (my mom's side) started in 1953. It's not the area that's bad, it's the bad people in the area. There is crime everywhere. Getting together and trying to do something to stop it instead of just ignoring it and hoping it will go away is not the answer. You're right about one thing, I could move... But I just moved here due to circumstances beyond my control. My mom passed and my dad suffered a stroke, so he's now living with my brother because I was living with him and couldn't afford the house and the bills at the time so he rented out his house to help with the costs. There are many people here that are doing thier best to make a better life, so why tell them to just move? Crime is everywhere and is moving no matter what. There are people in the country getting killed, or raped and no one knows about for a while. There are also many factors to consider. I was living in the country, but was only working part time and wasn't able to pay any bills. Couldn't afford the gas, now i have a better job, live closer, don't have the fuel bill. Anyway, you don't know me or my situation, Just because you and your mom never lived on horton st doesn't mean squat. The fact that she raised 3 kids by herself says a lot, but I bet she had a good job and lived close. Even if she didn't i give her a high five for raising kids alone. So my point is until you live in my shoes or the bannons, or anyone else that lives in this area, stop judging us. I grew up in poland, and harpswell where there isn't as many people in one area. I've had the money and the job and a taste of the good life. life is hard. I've gotten kicked and shoved, and Ive climbed out of the gutter many times. I still and climbing out. I'm not on welfare, Yes I do get some food stamps, but I don't get child support like I should im making it, slowly but my rent is current, even though I have to pay it late sometimes, I have a very understanding landlord. Anyway, get off your high horse and stop sticking your nose down to people just because of where they live. WE are not the trouble. grantes some of the ones here could be, but do you think the ones causing the trouble would waste their time to care what anyone else said on here?
Before you start judging someone because they can't afford to move, be sure you have the facts. I too live in lewiston on horton st. Im in the middle of all that too. When moving you need first and last months, reconnect fee for cable and elec, even phone. Plus you may have to wait for a place to become available. I am a single mother and I can't afford to move. I can barely afford the rent where I am now. As for "there is probably rent in other places for the same amount or less," I'd like to know where. My rent is 450 for a 2 bedroom and that's because my landlord is a friend of the family's. The crimes are happening at 10:30 am, 1 am, 1pm whatever time it is it doesn't matter. Why don't you help them move instead of complaining about them complaining about the crime.
So remember before you judge someone, take a walk in their shoes, then tell us what you think after.
For every tax break the rich get, They should put the extra money they save into a fund for the rest of the hungry. That would really help the poor. I have a rich aunt and uncle but do they help me with food and bills. no Yea right. They just flaunt what they have under my nose and blame me for not getting a good job... or not getting a good education..
If it weren;t for food stamps my daughter and I would go hungry. I wprk but my paycheck wouldn't pay the bills and buy food too. Right now it barely pays my bills as it is. The problem is the healthy food is way too expensive and junk food is cheaper. It should be the other way around.
These men will be missed. They were both well known in monmouth. Richard Kemp "Big Daddy" Always had a smile on his face for everyone. Winfield Studley also frequented the monmouth kwik shop on occasion as well. My heart and prayers go out to their loved ones.
First off I didn't put myself in this situation. I can't afford much. My landlord is a friend of the family and he's working with me on my rent. I don't want to live in a low income apt complex with everyone else. I work as a bus driver for Hudson bus lines, But believe me as soon as I can we're thinking of going back to Texas in the future. We only came back because my mothers health wasn't good and we lost her last nov. I basically just stay in my apt and my daughter plays in the small fenced in backyard we do have or I take her to pettingill park in auburn.
I just moved here from Monmouth. After my dad had his stroke, my brother moved him into his house. I couldn't find anything I could afford in Monmouth. Now I'm a bus driver here in lewiston. I can't afford to move because I can barely pay my rent and bills. I grew up in Poland when I was a kid. You could leave your house unlocked and everything would be the way it was when you left. We need to stop inviting people from other countries and places to come over here. We need to take care of our own first and foremost. This is way out of hand!!
Tell me about it. Right now even with a new job, Im juggling, buying new school clothes, putting gas in the car, paying rent, and how I'm going to pay both cable and cell phone. It's about to be shut off and I need cable because I'm in the middle of college classes for my bachelor's degree. They don't raise pay they just raise the cost of everything else. The politicians are going on nice tropical vacations and we're paying for it!!
Where are these well paying jobs anyway? If there were enough well paying jobs, those who move here wouldn't have any jobs because the people already from here would have them all filled.
Im glad my daughter was in school. I live right at horton and walnut street and didn't hear a thing except a siren. I have been here almost 5 months and there has been, three stabbings, gun shots, drug crimes, assault robbery, someone got hit by a car, another accident where a little 4 yr old boy was just barely missed by a car. Police need more manpower, not downsizing. The more patrols the less crime. Something needs to be done. I don't even dare to walk to the store across the street to my house at night, because I'm afraid something might happen to me or my daughter. It's sad when you can't even sit on your porch or walk down the street without getting attacked.
Anyone caught stealing a dog should be locked up. Especially if they intend to use the dogs they steal for fighting. They should be used as targets for hunting lessons. Not real bullets or guns but don't tell them that. That's what they make the dogs do, fight for their lives. See how the people who steal dogs feel like when they are running trying to stay away from getting hurt or shot. not with real guns though. or force them to fight for their lives Maybe then they will learn. But hitting an 11 week old child, there is no excuse at all. Babies cry. That's what they do get used to it.
Another sick person. Those who steal dogs and enjoy watching animals fight for their lives, then hits their own child needs to be locked away. There is no help for these cases. Although not all cases are the same. This has got to stop. People who like to see violence most times relate to that as feeling like they are in control. Is just saddens me that these people get pleasure watching someone or someone else get hurt.
Such sick people out there. Getting a 16 yr old girl to help slice a man? Where were her parents? That's why watching your child and making sure you are in her/business is so important. This guy is sick. He needs to be locked away forever... before he kills or hurts someone else. This is just sick.
They may become legal but im sure it will have rules. Im pretty sure that letting firecrackers off out of season is still against the law. Especially setting them off in the city or around people when it's not the 4th.
Stealing bikes, cars, lawn ornaments now stealing dogs. Next there going to start stealing kids. It's bad enough we have to tell our kids to watch for strangers or strange acting people. Now we can't even leave our animals in our yards or cars anymore. Pretty soon we won't even be able to go outside of our house for fear of someone trying to steal something from us. This world is getting bad. You can't just shoot someone trespassing on your property without getting in trouble. People are just sick. What are people thinking? I hope these people are found. They shold have the same thing done to them as they do to the dogs they steal. Have them be bait then shoot them in the head.
As a truck driver myself, there are blind spots. 25 feet behind the trailer is where the blind spot begins, midway between the cabs rear tires and the landing gear of the trailer is another one. about 15 feet in front of the cab begins another one. Even though we sit up a car in front closer than that is hard to see. realistically you need to not just rely on your mirrors. You need to look out your window as well. And for car drivers, if you are beside a truck make sure the blinkers aren't on. Just honk a little to let us know your there. And dont cut us off. We take a long time to stop. on a good day a loaded trailer will take approx half a football field to stop. It will take longer with just a cab and no trailer because we don't have the weight of the trailer to stop. This was definitely a case of not paying attention. The driver should have seen he was coming up on a car and slow accordingly.
Regardless of who hit whom, that stretch of rt 4 is very bad. I used to work there at the big apple when it was on the other side of the road. One day a small car and a jeep collided when the small car turned into the path of the jeep. They almost hit a lady that was getting gas. The small car didn't even see the jeep. The jeep had started slowing down trying to anticipate the car but the car never slowed just cut in front of it. It almost hit the store as well. That area needs a turning lane with a barrier of some sort. People don't pay attention anyway. Mt prayers and thoughts are with the wing family. Sorry for your loss.
I hear you. But I am working, i drive 18 miles each way to a job that pays 8.25 an hour for 20 hrs a week. Then end up paying approx 100 weekly in gas. Which leaves me approx 50 bucks a week to pay rent, and bills. so if I had an extra 5 I would love to be able to help someone else out. But right now i can;t even help myself. I don't go anywhere, I have to bring my daughter to work with me because the programs for daycare don't work with my hours. I usually work 6 am til 1. most daycare's don't open til 6:30am or I work 2 to 9 pm and most daycare's close at 6pm. So that doesn't help me. She'll be in school soon from 8:15 to 3pm so hopefully I'll find something closer and work during my daughter's school schedule.
Yea, because if everyone got off assistance, those who provide the assistance will be on assistance and they will need our tax money. This system is set up for us all to fail and become dependent on one government. Also I'm all for helping poor countries with no water or food. But why send them money, when they just keep needing more? Why not take a group of engineers, teach those countries how to do for themselves, and how to be self sufficient. Did anyone ever think of that? No because we in america just love giving our hard earned money to the other people who don't know how to do for themselves because they don't have anyone to teach them. *Note my Sarcasm*
I think it's funny that people who sit at home, don't work and keep having kids get more help than those working to survive but finding the more they work the less they can afford to eat, be warm, and put gas in their cars. I'm a single mom working 20 hrs a week and going to school. by the time i pay my rent and put gas in my car to go to work i have no money to do laundry or to buy necessities such as t. paper or anything else. I can't even get childcare because i don't work traditional hrs because the job i have is open from 6 am to 9 pm. I'd be living on the street if it weren't for my landlord being good friends with my brother. So I hear ya.more attention needs to be taken for the elderly, sick and disabled, single parent homes and those who are trying to get off assistance. Not the ones who keep losing jobs or are too lazy to do anything for themselves.
I have to safety space heaters. I put one in the room im in at the time. when i go to bed i move it to the bedroom. They stay at a regulated temp. If it gets too hot it shuts off. if it falls over it shuts off etc.. I works. It runs about 20 bucks a month on the electric bill. Last winter i could buy heating oil. so i put up a blanket in my living room an it stayed at 70 degrees. throughout the night in there. Both my daughter and I slept comfortably. the rest of the house was 50 degrees or below until we brought the heaters in to warm them up. I don't think we need new casino's or new restaurants etc... we need to help the poor and the elderly first. fix up homes and find low income houses. Instead of building new office buildings or condo's why not repair the ones still standing and fix them up for low income residents. That will save money. Im tired of being poor working my butt off and getting nothing in return. The government is living off our sweat and blood and living very well. They need to do the work once in a while and let us live off their sweat and blood.
here is my data. Obviously something is wrong here. If Texas can get averages like this, with many Spanish speaking students, then why can't we get the same? Our kids are smart enough.

When you go camping you should only bring what you need. Leave your credit cards behind at home. You can go to any bank and they can look up your account or you can go to an atm. Don't trust that no one will mess with your car. With the economy as bad as it is you can best believe that crime is up. When I went camping i had a soft sided cooler. I carefully took apart one of the seams and put my money and cards in then resealed it. You can put everything in a plastic bag and stick under the tent bottom, or in your cooler. I even had my money underneath the soles of my sneakers. Out of sight out of mind. Just remember, bring the bare necessities only. There is always a chance you might lose it or have it stolen, but of you only bring just what you need it won't be as devastating as losing everything.
My daughter started her schooling in Texas. By the time she was in pre-k she was already reading and doing math. By the time she was in kindergarten she was reading at a 3rd grade level. The school in Texas would giver her reading, math and spelling tests every week. she had a list of words she had to study and spell orally without looking at the paper. She also had math problems she had to do and turn it in the next day without any help from me. needless to say she brought home 100"s every week on every test. Now she is entering third grade, but spent the last part of the year in kindergarten at Monmouth schools. They never gave her homework, her spelling started to slip because they didn't challenger her or correct her when she spelled something wrong. In math the make her do something called number strings which basically adds three steps to simple addition and subtraction making in even more difficult to figure out. I even didn't know how to do it. So basically if you want your child to do good, you have to supplement that with at home learning. You can't trust the school system to do it on their own.
I even did a comparison of Maine schools with Texas; Texas came in at a third grade class with 90% reading and a 90% math levels. Maine came in at a 59% reading and 60% math. So something is really wrong here.
Of course not all schools are bad here in maine but things need to change.
This is one famous tree. This is my Aunt's tree. When we were kids back in the 70's all the relatives would go there for the holiday's I remember sitting down in the play room on a real bear skin rug watching tv. Then we would go outside and sit under the tree in the summer, or build a snowman under it, in the winter. All the kids would try and climb it, but my cousin Ross was the one who got the highest and had to have the fire dept come get him down. This tree will be missed, but some thing's have to come down. On the bright side, you can plant another tree. Lot's of memories at that house. We will miss it.
How would she like to be in a metal barn with no food or water? My daughter who is 8 would love to have a horse. unfortunately right now I can't afford it. To abuse any animal is sick. animals are one being that love unconditionally and you can always count on. Some people are so ignorant. If they can't afford an animal, give it to someone who can. You can even work something out and when you get your feet on the ground you can get it back. Someone ought to put her in a sauna with no water or food and see how she likes it. I've nursed a dog back from the brink after a coyote attack that left a 6 inch gash in its throat. And it was also shot in the shoulder by a gun. Both times I thought the dog was going to die. So to deliberately hurt an animal is just plain sick!
That's why as a good driver you have to expect someone to run into the street. I live around the corner where this person got hit. I hear and see it everyday. The other day there was a small child playing in a driveway near the road with no adult supervision at all. I stopped and then went very slowly that way if he did run out i would have been able to stop. Plus what is so important to get to that we can't just slow down in the city where we all know there are a lot of kids and people that walk in the streets anyway. Even though people may not cross in a cross walk they still have the right of way. Just be extra alert and expect the worst. I've avoided lots of accidents with people and cars that way. You don't need to drive like a maniac. just go the speed limit or slower if there are a lot of obstacles or activity. Don't blame the people. The car will be fine it's the person that can't grow a new leg or arm. I have a daughter and I can't be there every second. I try to but it's impossible. So just be more patient with the people crossing streets. God forbid you hit someone you didn't see then find out it's your child or someone you know.
They are really the same as bars used to be, smoky, with everyone winding down after work or meeting friends.
the other thing is you can't smoke inside restaurants and bars anymore but you still can at the social clubs. I went to the acme with some friends and couldn't stay long because of the cigarette smoke. Other than that it was ok.

Actually, I lived in texas and the speed limit is 75 during the day but at dusk it goes down to 70. Believe me cars may go 80 but the police do take notice. Especially after dark. Actually that speed drivers are actually paying more attention to the road. As soon as they hit 85 you can bet the cops will be there! Go for it!!! Most drivers here don't even do the posted limit. Yesterday coming up 202 through greene, I was behind a car doing 20 mph. It's a no passing zone so for 16 miles I did 20 miles an hour. Go figure.
The participants should have gotten their gear where they wanted then moved their vehicles somewhere else to park. it doesn't take that much effort to move your car after you unload your equipment. Still anytime towing should have called the sabattus PD and I bet they would have known it's a fund raiser. Especially since there were so many cars to tow from on spot? I would have thought something was funny with all the cars that were being towed.
Sure, keep killing America's wild animals. The only place you can really see wild tigers now are in zoo's. BLM kills wild horses and rounds them up, because they deem it's for the horses own good? The way things are goings our sons. and daughters kids will never see wild animals unless they are in a zoo. That may even be rare. if you hunt for meat to feed yourself and your family, fine, but leave the cats, and hunts just for the heck of it out. We are a destroying race, set out to destroy everything we touch. Just look at whats happening now, oil spills, mudslides, fires, etc.... Lets leave nature alone and can'y we all just get along??

Good bye mom. I love you, we will miss you. You are finally at peace again, and now you can finally start baking and stenciling again. Although we didn't always see eye to eye, you are the best mother I could have asked for. Cathy
Okay, first firefighters reported that the fire was on oak street in Lisbon, then when looking at the photos, the caption says "Pine St." so was it on Oak st in Lisbon, or pine st Lisbon?
Well if you weren't behind you wouldn't have lost your license. Just because you are ordered to pay so much a week or month, even 10,15, 25, 50 or whatever your could afford, each week would be better than not. I am just now starting to receive child support again after nothing for 7 yrs. So you really have no one to blame but yourself. I personally would much rather have my daughters dad involved in her life.
I had a deaf blue healer. I taught him sign language. He even walked himself on a leash.
Thats how they train dogs for the movies. Hand signals. No-one wants to hear a trainer yell ok now while watching a dog movie. Nice story but no big deal. My dog knew over 100 signs. even taught me a few.
I would rather listen to dog barking than the train or jake brakes on an 18 wheeler. If you live next to a farm are you going to tell the farmer to stop his rooster from crowing?
its an animal and its going to be an animal. get over it!
If these idots wanted to race, go to oxford plains. I've seen too many accidents on center street. I was in one. some idiot was in a hurry to get to somewhere near the ground round when it used to be there and passed cars in the turning lane into to where
i was turning into the old movie rental place that used to be by kinkos across the street.
just another case of bad parenting and not caring what your child is doing. If I were the parents i would take his car and keys away for life...
pitbulls are not unpredictable. It's their owners. All dogs can bite. all dogs can maul. I've seen rotty's and dobie's that were perfectly trained maul a cat, and even a small child. It's not the dog breed. its the owner. But I do agree fine the ignorant dog owner that allows an untrained dog to do as he pleases without consequences. Those are the people who ruin it for the rest of us. We do need more dog parks. There are a lot of empty lots and fields that can be made into a dog park. We don't need more condo's or shopping malls. We need more parks for our pets and children.
conveinence stores will just have to do it like they do in texas. Have bullet proof glass around the cash register. make it small enough that only a pack of cigs, or money can fit through, and have the door lead directly to inside the coolers, where the would be thief can't get in. They might take some beer, or candy from the shelves, but better than takinbg money, and risking injuring the clerk.
Mainers sending help down to the US? Where do you think Maine is? Canada? Umm I think you better check your geography. the last time I checked Mains is in the US.
Its not the tenants fault at all. I currently live in an old apt in an old house. Before I moved in it took the landlord three weeks to get the water running. (he pays for the water & sewer) it also took him 3 weeks in the cold to get the furnace running after I had spent 250.00 for oil and froze for three weeks until he decided to finally get the furnace running. Now my front door doesn't lock at all, he knew about that too. Told me the door is no good after being broke down by police a few years ago... but it was too cold to fix. I've been here since sept 09 and it still isn't fixed. My daughter and I live in the living room because it's too cold in the bedrooms even with the heat on. No we're facing eviction because we had to buy oil and pay elec instead of rent because i was unemployed. I just started a job but now I'm 4 months behind. Yea they worked with me but this apt has alot of issues. not enough outlets no fire escape except the front door, So what looks good at the time isn't always. We even still have a celing light that came out of the ceiling and still hasn't been fixed and the landlord lives in the house we rent. It only goes to show there are a lot of jerks that are landlords and only cares about the money, not the tenant. I feel for this family. Luckily they found place to go. Im still looking and I don't have the money for anything, and I need to be out by next fri apr 30th. I'm waiting for the state to let me know about housing. Until I hear, I guess my 6 yr old daughter and I will be homeless and on the street.
I say cut his weinie off and let one of those big men at the jail tie him down and have his way with him. see how he likes it. he won't have to worry abobbut dropping the soap, they won't give him the chance.
Thanks for letting me know that lobster and fish are individuals. I never would have known of peta hadn't told me. Duh.
Then instead of calling them sardines, they would be called lobsterines or herrbsters or some other combination of lobster and herring. Oh and peta, I just finished making the best seafood chowder, lobsters, scallops, shrimp, and haddock. Man it was delicious. I think Peta ought to try some.
it wasn't russell street it was sabattus just up from roopers. it's a busy intersection and people are always in a hurry to be the first through the light. The speed limit is only 30 but everyone goes 50 or more.
How about a professional football player with the New england patriots? A jeep patriot, or an extreme snowskier driving a chevy avalanche. A rodeo cowboy driving a ford bronco, or an army commander driving a jeep commander. Or even an astronaut driving a dodge nitro. Thats my take on this.. Cathy in Maine
What are you smoking? Cutting out subsidized housing in stupid. What about the single parent that can't find a job but wants to work"? How will that help with poverty? I was born and raised here in lewiston aub. I always had 2 or 3 jobs at the same time. The past couple years have really been hard for me. I can't find a job. I go out everyday without any luck while my daughter is in school.
Im 4 months behind on my rent but luckily I have landlords that are willing to work with me. I also go to school online to try to get a better job. It's the government. Thats the problem. The president gives out money to the big car dealers and banks to bail them out. Why not take that money and make businesses where we can find jobs? Or make more homes for the homeless. Give the welfare recipients more reasons to have hope. Don't kick us when we're down. Stop taking in refugees from other countries until we're able to support out own!! Thats the problem. The government is trying to help too much too soon. I grew up with parents that worked in a shoe shop most their lives until they acquired a restaraunt from their family. Since retiring they have had to struggle because the government takes out more and more taxes for something else. The cost of living keeps rising but the wages aren't anywhere near where they need to be for us to survive. I started working when I was 9. I babysat the kids on my road on the weekends and after school, so their parents could go to work or to the store. Then I got my first real job at the age of 13. I have nothing against helping other people from other countries, but make sure you help everyone equally. I see some of the refugees come over here and end up with new cars, clothes and money to buy businesses. They don't even know how to drive, some of them. Then they think we all owe them something. I hate being on welfare, but I can't find a job because there are none .
Plus what I get for welfare is in place for my nonexistent child support because I have a dead beat dad for my daughter who is remarried and supporting his other daughter with his new wife and 2 step kids. Figures doesn't it. So don't knock subsidized housing. Next you may pay more taxes just to keep us fed. believe me I hate being in the system. I want a job and to own my own house and make my own money. I'm tired of handouts but I have no choice at the moment. I have a daughter to feed.
If it were me driving I woukld have motioned the woman to cross if it was safe. I have had people walk in front of me after the light turned green Seems like they wait until you start moving then run out at you. Too many people assume you are going to stop for them anytime you cross the street, only in a cross walk. Besides, it was an accident. none was seriously hurt. A little banged up but nobody is going to die. So don't blame the driver it was both parties fault. We can't read minds. Plus the father of the child should be in jail... he tried to attack the driver. I would have just been glad that my child's mother and daughter were ok! Heck, common sense says both the driver and pedestrian should both pay attention to each other. Remember, way back there were NO Cross Walks, you just had to cross when it was safe to do so. Use common sense. Everyone
I agree. I am a 43 yr old woman who has worked since I was 13. Now I can't even find a job and I have a child to support. God knows I don't get support from my child's father. Seems like everywhere I look more and more low income refugees and such keep getting jobs or new cars, cell phones etc... What about the people who were born and raised here. What do they get? I'm on assistance and I hate it, but I have no choice, because there are no jobs. I live in Monmouth now. So if the city and state can afford to give these " low income class", who aren't natives cars, and money to spend, cell phones, and even to buy businesses, why can't they afford to have safe crosswalks for people.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying to locate a knitting pattern. I was at the Farmington Fair Exhibition Hall, and in one of the Grange exhibits there were four knitted hats on a shelf. The hats had earflaps that extended around the hat to cover the back of the neck. I have searched high and low for this pattern. If you know the person who made these hats, I would love to know where to locate the pattern. My phone number is 639-4674. Thank you. — Diana Hall, Phillips
Dear Dana, I have the pattern in one of my pattern books, the bad thing is I don't know which one. I will look for you and will get in touch with you when I find it. It's a fairly simple pattern. I will start looking for it as I have over 300+ pattern books and some of my own patterns. Cathy
the sun is also bad in that area at that time. I have had many close calls because of the sun and speeding cars. i think there needs to be a divider like they have going down parts of main street in Lewiston and on Washington street. just have spaces where people can get out of driveways. that way if someone starts to cross the center lane, then they will only hit the guard rail or the divider possibly saving someone else's life.

All I've ever heard is every one is equal. Equality. Well here there is no such thing! If you're just a little bit different you're not worthy to be treated equal. When you were kids, didn't your parents tell you that it was impolite to stare? Especially if it was someone who was in a wheelchair, or was disfigured? Now those people who voted yes are telling their children that it is okay to stare. I am straight, I am not a homo. In fact I am a single woman with a child. Years ago interracial marriages weren't thought of. No one wanted to accept that either, now it is pretty commonplace to see an African/American man/ woman with a white man/woman. We also see woman in sports, or in the military. Even the military would discriminate against gays/ lesbians who wanted to serve their country. Who cares! A lot of people think that homosexuality is a disease. In a way it is. When we are born we don't plan on liking the same sex. We don't choose our parents. I think the problem is that when we think of homosexuals we think of predators. A lot of people think that because someone is gay, that they will end up molesting some child or person.
It also says in the commandments " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." so basically those of you who voted yes wants someone to discriminate against you. Just wait, change is coming, and it's gonna be huge Are you ready for it? Can you handle it. Come on people. WAKE UP!!! All the churches are closing, doesn't that tell you something. I'm catholic and I voted no on #1 and I'm proud of it. I'll do it again. Just because someone ignorant people think that because they don't like that then they can set the standards for others. Like seat belts... I hate them I've seen first hand a few friends die because the seat belts got stuck or because they cut open their abdomens in wrecks. The seat belts may save some lives, but being responsible and careful when driving will save even more. But getting back to the point, All people should be treated equallly. I know we do have to make some decisions regarding how to treat some people, child molesters, rapists, murders etc... But even they can get married. So whats the big deal. Will it kill your child to learn that being gay is not a bad thing. what about that child, or teenager that is gay, but is too scared to say anything. What about the straight parents whose son has just told them he's gay. Will they still feel the same way when their son wants to marry his boyfriend? So change is coming so be ready for it, I am are you?
Never mind charging the kid Charge his parents for not watching him or knowing where he is. If it were my kid I would have turned him/her in. you have to set examples as parents. If he/she is doing these things imagine what he/she might do next. Stop it now and maybe being thrown in jail as an adult , will scare the crap out of him/her. juvenile det will just make it worse because he/she will still be around people his/her own age. Put him/her in with the big timers and see how he/she likes that.
We are so focused on equality that we forget we are all humans! If we want to be treated as equals, then what is the problem? Just because one person (God) said a union of marriage should be between one man an one woman, that it should be so? Here's my take. I was just 3 months old when I was baptised catholic. Did I ask to be? No. I was dragged to church by my parents because they thought it was the right thing to do. I believe in God but I also believe in myself. I do not need a higher power to believe in when things get tough. God does not pay your bills when you are down. Helpful people who go to church may help if they are able. God does not pull you out of harms way when you are in a wreck it is up to you to pay attention. I am a single Straight woman who has never married and has a child. I would like to get married someday but as we all know, marriage is not as valued as it once was. I look at it this way, Is it going to hurt you to have someone get married because they like the same sex? Will it corrupt your childrens values?
Only if you let it. What if it was your child who told you he/she was gay and wanted to get married? Would you shun them or disown them? Or do you support them regardless because they are our children? I'm not saying that believing in God is bad or anything of the sort, but that it's not everything just to believe in God. My daughter is not baptised. I'm giving her a choice. This country is supposed to be about freedom and free speech etc.. but what it's turning into is, if we don't like it or if the bible doesn't condone it then neither shall we. If two people are in love they should be free to make their own decision. That is the only way to have complete equality. As long as both sides are consenting to do the same. It's almost like being 30 and marrying a 60 yr old man. so what, if they are happy together then let them be happy. What might make one person uncomfortable, may make another person happy. So quit your complaining because you can't control something that's out of your control! Now things have gotten so bad it's pathetic. If society doesn't like it then it's a bad thing. If you teach your kids right and teach then to accept all things no matter how different they are then, this world will be a much better place and a greater start to living harmoniously together. Here's an example... For a while bi-racial marriage wasn't even heard of. Now it's almost commonplace. Do you all have a problem with that? I sure don't. Love is love. Love doesn't judge, doesn't hate, love always forgives. remember that the next time you see a gay couple walking down the street. They still are human after all. Also remember that gay couple may be the people who save your life someday. You never know . Would you be thankful they saved your life before you knew they were gay? Or would you wait until someone else came by to help you just because you didn't want a gay couple near you? I'd take the first person who came along. We all have the same color blood and we all have feelings. Get Over It!!!!!!!!!! If No means the same sex marriage stays then I'm all for it. It doesn't bother me. I embrace change. I get so bored with the same lame laws and standards. You have to wear a seat belt, you have to register your car, you can't do this you can't do that, even suicide is against the law.
We as a country want to help others. Well we can't help people, while we shun others that are different than we are, just because of their personal preference.
It's time to reevaluate people let's get to it!!
Unfortunately I went to school with her. She wasn't too bad in school but has gotten worse over the years. She needs to be put away so she can't hurt herself her kids or anyone else. she's a waste. She could have had it all. But she wouldn't listen to anyone.

shooting
It was crazy.... The scary part was my 8 yr old daughter had just come inside from riding her bike like 5 mins before it all started. One of the casing was barely 5 feet from where she was drawing on the sidewalk. One of the men scaled my fence, a few mins later we found bullet casings at the end of my driveway. This is the third time this week! Time to get out of here. No wonder its called dirty lewiston. I dont want to think what might have happened had my daughter not come inside when she did.
mass
it's not that I hate massachusettes just the idiots that live there. If the guy wanted to sell pot tell him to stay in mass we don't need any more trash here we have enough already.
crash
it's not just drunk driving any more. It's driving under the influence of anything, drugs, tiredness, rage, depression. If you have any of these don't drive. Call a friend. Texting, and using the cell phone are also on the list. C'mon people get real. You're going to kill someone someday if not yourself. I don't want it to be me or any of my loved ones.
pot
leave it to the mass holes. And they complain about our driving here in maine. Mass holes. Kudos to the officer.
fish tank
fish tanks are calming. Overall I think all sit down restaurants should have fishtanks in them.
mistaken identity
Ray
Just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. Tyrone, Horace, DeeDee (sandra), Stanford, and everyone you are in our hearts.
sad
they make harnesses for your dog that clip onto to the seat belts. You should always have your pet secured in the car. They are in fact part of your family! Little dogs should never ride in laps especially of drivers. Thats as bad as letting your infant sit in your lap while you are driving. Glad eveyone was ok, sorry about your dog.
fraud
But it would be a start.
free
Well i have one. I was paying almost 100 a month for my cell phone. But I don;t use the free phone because they are junk. The one I have doesn't charge and you only get 250 mins a month and if you don't call on the 10th every month they shut the phone off. I went back to my old cell but turned it into a go phone with a set amount every month. Still the free phone is good for emergencies. If nothing else.
oops spelling error. Should
oops spelling error. Should say too long.
ebt
It's called cable internet. I can't use dial up because it takes too ling to submit my assignments. I don't have a home phone.
ebt
What are they going to do, lock you up?
ebt
I think you should be able to buy hot food on foodstamps. What about those who have nothing to cook on? Of course you would have to put restricitons on going to a restaurant to buy a 25.00 steak or whatever, but go to shaws and buy a hot soup from the salad bar should be allowed. They can also regulate the purchase of cigs and alchohol on ebt cards. There are ways that They can also regualte the purchase of drugs.
ebt

This is wrong.
traffic
take the veterans bridge from center street or take minot ave by the rollerdrome.
there are many different ways between aub and lew so you can avoid the traffic
signs
Instead they walk in the middle of the road and expect you to move for them.
roll over
ash, pine, howe, all those streets are bad. Best thing to do is just slow down.
cuts
Starting with the lawmakers.
smoking
well then fine the ones who drop the butts on the ground. That was the last time I did that.
burglary
We don't need NY's trash, we have enough here. Let them keep their own trash.
smoking
doesn't matter if you are near someone when smoking. You are forcing us to breathe it in even if you didn't mean it.
butts
why not make more cigarette butt canisters near popular smoking places. You can find a street light or street sign on almost any corner. Why not put these near bus stops, outside grocery stores, in parking lots. We have to pay for garbage disposal which comes once a week. It may cost more but in the end it will cost less. Less cleanup, less mess, and less damage to the environment.
superbowl
Sorry to say the the luck that was with the giants 4 yrs ago won't be there this year. Welker is playing, gronk and hernandez weren't on the team, chung and others weren't on the team 4 yrs ago either. Brady won't make the same mistakes. Branch is back and knows almost what brady is thinking. Also ocho though not having a very impressive season is there for the first time. So watch the pats come out on fire and continue to do what they do best. come back against haters. This will be a good game but the outcome will be very different. 38-21 Patriots on top.
truck
I do check my mirrors every 4-6 seconds. I drove rigs too. first though truck drivers have maps, and little things called gps. Before he even left with his load he should have plotted a better route or at least looked at all his options knowing the roads were bad. Also if the pickup driver had looked in his mirrors he would have seen the truck and maybe could have got out of the way. Also if you had read the rest I did say check your mirrors.
truck
You can't avoid everything but you can sure try and prepare for it.
licenses
I think it would be a good thing.
texting
If you don't have a passenger pull over or wait.
kittens
there are a few semi feral kittens arond my house. They did go near one older gentleman that was feeding them. I haven't seen him in a while now and the cats still come around. i have been trying to catch them with my have a heart because they are not even a yr old they were born this past june. They will need time to be socialized but are young enough to do that. I will attempt to catch them and being them in to the shelter.
star
You're cruel. this mother is missing her child and is trying to help find her. The media may be her last hope to find her. If police had found Ayla's body you would have heard about it. give it a break. What if it was your child, you would be in the media as well until you found your child. I know I would.
lucky kid
If it had been my daughter she would have kicked the crap out of him. It's all the parents fault. the kids are emulating the parents because the parents don't spend time with them. Or are too busy drinking and doing drugs. When I was 14 I had a job. I was working at Luiggi's for my parents. This kid is crying for attention. Parents listen to your kids. There is nothing more important than the kids. The parents ought to do the right thing and pay back the little girl their son robbed.
fraud
Thats' also where he should have had the state send something to the mother stating he was taking a lower paying job. if the mother had any common sense she would have realized he was doing his best. I'd rather have the dad in my daughter's life than the money anyway. but the money really helps. If he were in his daughters life and told me all he could send was 50.00 I'd be ok with that. But he doesn't even answer my letters.
fraud
Better than my previous post, why doesn't the state require you to show your picture id when you use the ebt card. Those who are home bound and have someone else shopping for them ought to have that person registered as the authorized pick up person and have that person show id. That will nip that in the bud. You have to do that with wic. You need the book that wic checks come in and you have to sign the checks. They are not transferable either. If you are not on the card as the authorized person you can't get the items. I've always had to show id whn I was on wic. it doesn't cost anything either.
fraud
How can it be too costly? We all have Id's dont we? Those who don't drive need a picture id to cash thier checks. So why is it too expesive. Why can't they take it out of the benifits one time and get everyone a picture on their card. Or make the EBT user sign their name on a paper. That way it can be double checked against the owner .
fraud
Actually texas is tougher than maine. There is a website i think it's called deadbeats and it shows men and woman who have not paid child support. They can be behind for as little as 500.00 and they get their licenses revoked and go to jail. Of course with no income because they are in jail, the custodial parent doesn't get anything because the noncustodial isn't making any money. I think that deadbeats shouldn't get any kind of assistance, loans, food, housing or stuff like that until they are caught up with child support.
crackdown
Or what about those dads who pay when they feel like it but when DHS catches up with him through his job, right before they garnish his paycheck he quits his job. He's remarried and has another daughter and two step kids but doesn't acknowledge his first born daughter. So there are three kids getting support form thier biological dad and thier step dad, while his oldest daughter gets nothing. That's not right. If their are other kids in the mix they should make sure the biological dad pays for all of them not just the ones he lives with. I go without so my daughter doesn't. It's hard to catch him because he lives out of state.
shooting
I don't hunt but I have atteneded hunter safety. you don't shoot at anything unless you can see it completely in your sights. If you're not sure don't shoot!!!. Plus dogs are a lot shorter than deer. C'mon officer you know better than that. Do you shoot a kid or person if they look like they have a gun or do you wait til the last possible second to see if its actually a gun?? If you can only see a tail you need to wait and Identify the target before shooting. The woman should have been wearing orange along with her dogs but it's up to the hunter to use better judgement. Good luck on a full recovery for the woman.
drunk
It's about time officers aren't afraid to arrest one of their own. I've seen many officers cause needless accidents because they were in a hurry and used thier authority to get away with speeding, and drinking.
crash
its winter time folks, time to slow down and leave earlier than normal because of the weather. Let's get there safe.
crash
if you read the headlines "4 killed in palermo accident... That should be self explanatory. There were 4 men, tyler, dennis, kyle, and roy. I understood who died, all four men two brothers and a father and son.
donations
Cathy and Skyler
bus
I drive the special needs van to windham highschool and there are too many drivers not going the school speed limit. When the lights are flashing the speed limit is 15 mph. I have cars pass me at 40!!! People you need to slow down!! Im sorry if you are late. Leave earlier. What if it's your child crossing the street and you're in such a hurry to get to work that you hit and kill your own child? or your neighbors, or even someone child you don't know? For the sake of the kids and other drivers please slow down and adhere to the speed limits in school zones. Remember we voted for this law. Let's keep our kids safe.... I am a bus driver and I see this all the time.
donations
I would give cash but I dont have any. I scraped up what i had to give my own daughter a special christmas. But I will help anyway I can.
toys.
I have toys that my daughter outgrew we were going to save them for a yard sale but we would rather help those who could use them. We have toy computers, leap pads and stuffed animals. We will drop them off. It's better that way, plus when we needed help people like hope haven came through for us and made my daughter's christmas special. we decided to pay it forward.
secret santa's
Dhhs
Oh great. now what are people like me going to do? We now have to let the others have what they want.
issues
im on welfare because i dont have a choice. i dont get child support i am a single mom i work i go without so my daughter can have things. if it weren't for my daughter i would be working three fulltime jobs etc... without any assistance. even if i work 3 jobs now id only be working to support my babysitter and never see my daughter. I saw someone at walmart with a sign,, traveling home. broke anything will help. if you are broke why are you traveling. stay in one place get a job. there are jobs.. you just got to look.
cuts
have you noticed the refugees each have the latest phone, or a nice new vehicle, even the newest style clothes or sneakers. They didn't have what they have in their native home. What about the people here don't we count? I would love to have the latest phone or a new car or one that isn't falling apart. money to start a business etc... just saying
heat
im a single mom working and living paycheck to paycheck. They keep cutting down on the things we need help with the most.
stabbing
I heard that he's from missippi and hasn't been here long. We need to stop taking in everybody's refugees and fix the problems here first. The refugees are bsginning to think they can run the place and all of us that have been here don't have a say in the matter.
Teenagers
That's why you need to teach your teens that no matter what let their parents know where they are at all times. Your parents may not like it but at least they know you're safe.
busing
Busing ensures that students get to school safely. Some parents can't take there kids too school or live too far out. It's easier to transport larger groups of kids with less problems. imagine if all the kids either walked to school or there parents brought them or picked them up. longer waits at school, more traffic. Plus bus drivers are also people that see what your kids is doing everyday when you're not around and before they get to school. Get rid of busing and there will be lots of kids not going to school because there parents may not have a vehicle or means to get their child to school.
special needs. kids
EL
Just my opinion.
raid
Well after watching a national geographic show on illegal hunting of tigers in china, I will never eat at a chinese restaurant again. they showed chinese cooking everytihng from dogs to cats to foxes and other types of animals. while i was watching they actually video taped a woman taking a puppy that looked like a husky, alive and butchering it right on tv. So you're not far off. So just remember that teryaki stick might not be the pork or beef you expect, but just might be someone's lost or stolen pet. There may be some real chinese restaurants that only serve pork and beef, but I'm not willing to take that chance anymore.
mill 5
I think it ought to be used for the seniors as the multi purpose center is crowded and there is a need for more space for the school kids. Then the seniors will have a place to go to see friends, play bingo, or knit, and just enjoy life. We don't need anymore bars or restaurants. or low income houseing as there are lots of empty apts already.
cyclist
They have the right of way but only if they follow the rules. eveyone is always in a hurry and have no patience anymore.
burglary
I would be willing to give someone 1 dollar as opposed to 100.00?
casino
Lewiston is not the place for a casino, now or in the future.
muslims
Plain and simple.
shelters
Then once they get the help they throw them back on the streets.
finger
I had to call on two occasions. once during hurricane irene because there was someone going up and down the block squealing tires and such. This was at 12 midnight!! Then I had two or three kids from across the street from my house letting off bottle rockets into my driveway where my daughter was rifing her bike!! By the time they came by the secind time they had left. They came by the first time and went right by. I came by my house today on the way back from my am run and there were three cops on pierce street again. So it's a never ending thing.
assault
By Nick Gagnon, verified user — Sun, 10/23/2011 - 22:05
This was who I was speaking to but I reply to your comment instead. didn't mean to confuse you.
victim
The property that was lost was not property of
the victim? It was the victims property. his laptop, his keys, his wallet? Where did you not see that this was his stuff that was stolen? hello. then the defendants tried to get money out of his account. The police may not have done the damage but they lost the evidence.
niece's friend
Ty. And whats even worse my nephews friend was killed from an overdose of drugs. sad part was he wasn't a user. Just goes to show that lives can be lost at any time. Why take chances especially while driving.
driving
or at least use a headset.

Granted there are good cops and there are those who try to use their badge for their own purpose.
assault
Regardless of what the man did, there's no need for the cop to do that while the man is handcuffed and face down on the ground.
drivers
The same goes for the police as us, if you don't want to follow the rules of driving, then get off the roads!!!

van
I'm glad she's ok hopefully she'll pay more attention next time.

horton st
WE are not the trouble. grantes some of the ones here could be, but do you think the ones causing the trouble would waste their time to care what anyone else said on here?
can't afford to move
So remember before you judge someone, take a walk in their shoes, then tell us what you think after.
the rich
For every tax break the rich get, They should put the extra money they save into a fund for the rest of the hungry. That would really help the poor. I have a rich aunt and uncle but do they help me with food and bills. no Yea right. They just flaunt what they have under my nose and blame me for not getting a good job... or not getting a good education..
hunger
If it weren;t for food stamps my daughter and I would go hungry. I wprk but my paycheck wouldn't pay the bills and buy food too. Right now it barely pays my bills as it is. The problem is the healthy food is way too expensive and junk food is cheaper. It should be the other way around.
tragic accident
These men will be missed. They were both well known in monmouth. Richard Kemp "Big Daddy" Always had a smile on his face for everyone. Winfield Studley also frequented the monmouth kwik shop on occasion as well. My heart and prayers go out to their loved ones.
in the middle
First off I didn't put myself in this situation. I can't afford much. My landlord is a friend of the family and he's working with me on my rent. I don't want to live in a low income apt complex with everyone else. I work as a bus driver for Hudson bus lines, But believe me as soon as I can we're thinking of going back to Texas in the future. We only came back because my mothers health wasn't good and we lost her last nov. I basically just stay in my apt and my daughter plays in the small fenced in backyard we do have or I take her to pettingill park in auburn.
moving
I just moved here from Monmouth. After my dad had his stroke, my brother moved him into his house. I couldn't find anything I could afford in Monmouth. Now I'm a bus driver here in lewiston. I can't afford to move because I can barely pay my rent and bills. I grew up in Poland when I was a kid. You could leave your house unlocked and everything would be the way it was when you left. We need to stop inviting people from other countries and places to come over here. We need to take care of our own first and foremost. This is way out of hand!!
re: the problem
Tell me about it. Right now even with a new job, Im juggling, buying new school clothes, putting gas in the car, paying rent, and how I'm going to pay both cable and cell phone. It's about to be shut off and I need cable because I'm in the middle of college classes for my bachelor's degree. They don't raise pay they just raise the cost of everything else. The politicians are going on nice tropical vacations and we're paying for it!!
well paying jobs
Where are these well paying jobs anyway? If there were enough well paying jobs, those who move here wouldn't have any jobs because the people already from here would have them all filled.
stabbing
Im glad my daughter was in school. I live right at horton and walnut street and didn't hear a thing except a siren. I have been here almost 5 months and there has been, three stabbings, gun shots, drug crimes, assault robbery, someone got hit by a car, another accident where a little 4 yr old boy was just barely missed by a car. Police need more manpower, not downsizing. The more patrols the less crime. Something needs to be done. I don't even dare to walk to the store across the street to my house at night, because I'm afraid something might happen to me or my daughter. It's sad when you can't even sit on your porch or walk down the street without getting attacked.
dog thieves.
Babies cry. That's what they do get used to it.
dog thief
Another sick person. Those who steal dogs and enjoy watching animals fight for their lives, then hits their own child needs to be locked away. There is no help for these cases. Although not all cases are the same. This has got to stop. People who like to see violence most times relate to that as feeling like they are in control. Is just saddens me that these people get pleasure watching someone or someone else get hurt.
killings
Such sick people out there. Getting a 16 yr old girl to help slice a man? Where were her parents? That's why watching your child and making sure you are in her/business is so important. This guy is sick. He needs to be locked away forever... before he kills or hurts someone else. This is just sick.

new law
They may become legal but im sure it will have rules. Im pretty sure that letting firecrackers off out of season is still against the law. Especially setting them off in the city or around people when it's not the 4th.
dog theft
Stealing bikes, cars, lawn ornaments now stealing dogs. Next there going to start stealing kids. It's bad enough we have to tell our kids to watch for strangers or strange acting people. Now we can't even leave our animals in our yards or cars anymore. Pretty soon we won't even be able to go outside of our house for fear of someone trying to steal something from us. This world is getting bad. You can't just shoot someone trespassing on your property without getting in trouble. People are just sick. What are people thinking? I hope these people are found. They shold have the same thing done to them as they do to the dogs they steal. Have them be bait then shoot them in the head.
blind spots
The driver should have seen he was coming up on a car and slow accordingly.
accident victim
Regardless of who hit whom, that stretch of rt 4 is very bad. I used to work there at the big apple when it was on the other side of the road. One day a small car and a jeep collided when the small car turned into the path of the jeep. They almost hit a lady that was getting gas. The small car didn't even see the jeep. The jeep had started slowing down trying to anticipate the car but the car never slowed just cut in front of it. It almost hit the store as well. That area needs a turning lane with a barrier of some sort. People don't pay attention anyway. Mt prayers and thoughts are with the wing family. Sorry for your loss.
liheap
She'll be in school soon from 8:15 to 3pm so hopefully I'll find something closer and work during my daughter's school schedule.
low income
Yea, because if everyone got off assistance, those who provide the assistance will be on assistance and they will need our tax money. This system is set up for us all to fail and become dependent on one government. Also I'm all for helping poor countries with no water or food. But why send them money, when they just keep needing more? Why not take a group of engineers, teach those countries how to do for themselves, and how to be self sufficient. Did anyone ever think of that? No because we in america just love giving our hard earned money to the other people who don't know how to do for themselves because they don't have anyone to teach them. *Note my Sarcasm*
heating cuts
Not the ones who keep losing jobs or are too lazy to do anything for themselves.
heating
They need to do the work once in a while and let us live off their sweat and blood.
schools
here is my data. Obviously something is wrong here. If Texas can get averages like this, with many Spanish speaking students, then why can't we get the same? Our kids are smart enough.

protecting personal items
There is always a chance you might lose it or have it stolen, but of you only bring just what you need it won't be as devastating as losing everything.
schools
Sorry some of my keys on my keyboard don't work right so some of my words are spelled wrong.
schools
Of course not all schools are bad here in maine but things need to change.
old tree
This is one famous tree. This is my Aunt's tree. When we were kids back in the 70's all the relatives would go there for the holiday's I remember sitting down in the play room on a real bear skin rug watching tv. Then we would go outside and sit under the tree in the summer, or build a snowman under it, in the winter. All the kids would try and climb it, but my cousin Ross was the one who got the highest and had to have the fire dept come get him down. This tree will be missed, but some thing's have to come down. On the bright side, you can plant another tree. Lot's of memories at that house. We will miss it.
horse abuse
So to deliberately hurt an animal is just plain sick!
accident victim
God forbid you hit someone you didn't see then find out it's your child or someone you know.

social clubs
They are really the same as bars used to be, smoky, with everyone winding down after work or meeting friends.
the other thing is you can't smoke inside restaurants and bars anymore but you still can at the social clubs. I went to the acme with some friends and couldn't stay long because of the cigarette smoke. Other than that it was ok.

semi accident
Attention walmart employees, Clean up on I-95 !!!
speed limit
Actually, I lived in texas and the speed limit is 75 during the day but at dusk it goes down to 70. Believe me cars may go 80 but the police do take notice. Especially after dark. Actually that speed drivers are actually paying more attention to the road. As soon as they hit 85 you can bet the cops will be there! Go for it!!! Most drivers here don't even do the posted limit. Yesterday coming up 202 through greene, I was behind a car doing 20 mph. It's a no passing zone so for 16 miles I did 20 miles an hour. Go figure.
gas
Kwik shop in monmouth also has low gas prices of 3.79 per gallon and is possibly going lower.
parking
The participants should have gotten their gear where they wanted then moved their vehicles somewhere else to park. it doesn't take that much effort to move your car after you unload your equipment. Still anytime towing should have called the sabattus PD and I bet they would have known it's a fund raiser. Especially since there were so many cars to tow from on spot? I would have thought something was funny with all the cars that were being towed.
hunt
Sure, keep killing America's wild animals. The only place you can really see wild tigers now are in zoo's. BLM kills wild horses and rounds them up, because they deem it's for the horses own good? The way things are goings our sons. and daughters kids will never see wild animals unless they are in a zoo. That may even be rare. if you hunt for meat to feed yourself and your family, fine, but leave the cats, and hunts just for the heck of it out. We are a destroying race, set out to destroy everything we touch. Just look at whats happening now, oil spills, mudslides, fires, etc.... Lets leave nature alone and can'y we all just get along??
goodbye mom
Good bye mom. I love you, we will miss you. You are finally at peace again, and now you can finally start baking and stenciling again. Although we didn't always see eye to eye, you are the best mother I could have asked for. Cathy
fire
Okay, first firefighters reported that the fire was on oak street in Lisbon, then when looking at the photos, the caption says "Pine St." so was it on Oak st in Lisbon, or pine st Lisbon?
to anonymous
Well if you weren't behind you wouldn't have lost your license. Just because you are ordered to pay so much a week or month, even 10,15, 25, 50 or whatever your could afford, each week would be better than not. I am just now starting to receive child support again after nothing for 7 yrs. So you really have no one to blame but yourself. I personally would much rather have my daughters dad involved in her life.
Upset with Dead beat dads excuses.
deaf dog
I had a deaf blue healer. I taught him sign language. He even walked himself on a leash.
Thats how they train dogs for the movies. Hand signals. No-one wants to hear a trainer yell ok now while watching a dog movie. Nice story but no big deal. My dog knew over 100 signs. even taught me a few.
dog barking
I would rather listen to dog barking than the train or jake brakes on an 18 wheeler. If you live next to a farm are you going to tell the farmer to stop his rooster from crowing?
its an animal and its going to be an animal. get over it!
racing
If these idots wanted to race, go to oxford plains. I've seen too many accidents on center street. I was in one. some idiot was in a hurry to get to somewhere near the ground round when it used to be there and passed cars in the turning lane into to where
i was turning into the old movie rental place that used to be by kinkos across the street.
just another case of bad parenting and not caring what your child is doing. If I were the parents i would take his car and keys away for life...
pitbulls
pitbulls are not unpredictable. We need more parks for our pets and children.
robberies
conveinence stores will just have to do it like they do in texas. Have bullet proof glass around the cash register. make it small enough that only a pack of cigs, or money can fit through, and have the door lead directly to inside the coolers, where the would be thief can't get in. They might take some beer, or candy from the shelves, but better than takinbg money, and risking injuring the clerk.
oops
I mean Maine not Mains
maine help?.
Mainers sending help down to the US? Where do you think Maine is? Canada? Umm I think you better check your geography. the last time I checked Mains is in the US.
bedbugs
Until I hear, I guess my 6 yr old daughter and I will be homeless and on the street.
sex offender
I say cut his weinie off and let one of those big men at the jail tie him down and have his way with him. see how he likes it. he won't have to worry abobbut dropping the soap, they won't give him the chance.
lobster and fish are individuals
Thanks for letting me know that lobster and fish are individuals. I never would have known of peta hadn't told me. Duh.
Then instead of calling them sardines, they would be called lobsterines or herrbsters or some other combination of lobster and herring. Oh and peta, I just finished making the best seafood chowder, lobsters, scallops, shrimp, and haddock. Man it was delicious. I think Peta ought to try some.
accident
it wasn't russell street it was sabattus just up from roopers. it's a busy intersection and people are always in a hurry to be the first through the light. The speed limit is only 30 but everyone goes 50 or more.
car names.
Cathy in Maine
cut out subsidized housing??
If it were me driving
Everyone
just last week
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying
Cathy
the sun is also bad in that
the sun is also bad in that area at that time.

All I've ever heard is every
Never mind charging the kid
Never mind charging the kid Charge his parents for not watching him or knowing where he is. If it were my kid I would have turned him/her in. you have to set examples as parents. If he/she is doing these things imagine what he/she might do next. Stop it now and maybe being thrown in jail as an adult , will scare the crap out of him/her. juvenile det will just make it worse because he/she will still be around people his/her own age. Put him/her in with the big timers and see how he/she likes that.
We are so focused on
We are so focused on equality that we forget we are all humans!
Way to go Lewiston. My

Unfortunately I went to
Unfortunately I went to school with her. She wasn't too bad in school but has gotten worse over the years. She needs to be put away so she can't hurt herself her kids or anyone else. she's a waste. She could have had it all. But she wouldn't listen to anyone.
