Everything could qualify as historical. That doesn't mean it's interesting to anyone or worth holding on to. The buildings referred to in the article are not only eyesores but are simply areas that drugs and crime are drawn to. Historical garbage is still just garbage. The space could be used for things that are useful to the area and may become attractive as a potential sale for someone looking to develop if it was an empty lot rather than something that needs an insane amount of money to refurbish or tear down. The Maine State Historical Commission needs to step aside unless they personally are going to refurbish the properties within the next 3 months (so it doesn't sit for yet another 7 years) without expecting us to contribute. Let's get realistic about the health of our community.

I'm wondering why we haven't had a vote to have all priests under surveillance ala "big brother". Its all fine and dandy to say that a moral issue should be voted on, ignoring the law, but how would the priests feel if my moral outrage over their molestation cases was brought to a vote and the majority decided that the molestation percentages were high enough that they all need to live under 24 hour surveillance? Would we be removing their right to privacy legally?? Beyond that the only way to not discriminate against gay couples if they are denied marriage is to remove the rights that only married people enjoy, there are over 100 of them including tax breaks and benefits.

Science (the scary voodoo thing) has shown that being gay is genetic not a choice. God has chosen genetics to stop the over population of the earth that strains all of the resources God gave us :) Don't want gays? Stop reproducing. Marriage is a religious ceremony. No one's religious ceremony should be recognized by the state. We should have to file business partnerships to gain the benefits from the state. To anyone posting that this was an accident, you may want to take a look at the facebook and myspace accounts of these guys. This was pre-meditated. The passenger in the car stated hours before that they were planning a crime against the victim and they all claim to be in a gang. That's right, a bunch of back woods Maine white boys throwing gang slang. There is no defense. The previous issues with the victim were dealt with in court. Street vigilantism by "gang" members is not okay. Please give us the Book, chapter, and verse that you interpret saying marriage is for reproduction. I understand what your saying better than most will as my "husband" and I just had our ceremony and it was on the summer solstice at his request per his religion which is Pagan. I am a Christian. We did not get a license but are filing partnership paperwork for the insurance and medical rights. John, Thank you for your wit, highly enjoyable! I wrote this letter, and before I had to cut it down to 250 words I had quite a bit of information on the book of Leviticus. It makes for interesting reading. There is a bevy of websites with search-able text on the bible now which makes it so much easier to find information. Even having read and re-read my bible I cannot remember each and every verse. The phrasing of "man lying with man" was spoken directly to Moses. The people against gays use it almost unilaterally across the board as their reasoning, but refuse to abide by all of Leviticus for their daily lives because it is the old testament so it does not apply. I fail to see how one verse applies but the rest does not.
Beside that issue though, I do believe what I stated, the government has hijacked a religious ceremony to get more money out of the people. I don't believe they have the right to do so. If religion wants to keep it's word, then let it. The government has no right to it anyway.

The majority voting on the minority
I'm wondering why we haven't had a vote to have all priests under surveillance ala "big brother". Its all fine and dandy to say that a moral issue should be voted on, ignoring the law, but how would the priests feel if my moral outrage over their molestation cases was brought to a vote and the majority decided that the molestation percentages were high enough that they all need to live under 24 hour surveillance? Would we be removing their right to privacy legally?? Beyond that the only way to not discriminate against gay couples if they are denied marriage is to remove the rights that only married people enjoy, there are over 100 of them including tax breaks and benefits.

God has chosen genetics to stop the over population of the earth that strains all of the resources God gave us :) Don't want gays? Stop reproducing. Marriage is a religious ceremony. No one's religious ceremony should be recognized by the state. We should have to file business partnerships to gain the benefits from the state. To end: If you think your voting against gay marriage to "save the sanctity of marriage" then the state should be very literal and revoke all divorces it has granted, they destroy the sanctity of marriage far faster than a gay marriage will.

Defending the hit and run?
To anyone posting that this was an accident, you may want to take a look at the facebook and myspace accounts of these guys. This was pre-meditated. The passenger in the car stated hours before that they were planning a crime against the victim and they all claim to be in a gang. That's right, a bunch of back woods Maine white boys throwing gang slang. There is no defense. The previous issues with the victim were dealt with in court. Street vigilantism by "gang" members is not okay. A lot of grown people need to actually grow up, get a job, and make a life for themselves instead of acting like they are in high school fighting over girlfriends.

Sorry Sista, but no. I was a single 18 year old mother. I NEVER endangered my child. When I got pregnant I had to leave childhood behind. Your sister is responsible for everything for that child and there is no way she didn't think what she did was stupid unless she was stoned out of her mind. No one thinks it's okay to leave a baby alone in a car, or that it's legal. Anyone using that excuse needs to get real, 20 years ago when my son was born everyone knew not do do such a thing and they are even more aware of it now. There is no excuse for this behavior and it only shows the obvious carelessness these parents have. No one that I know that read this story today had one single ounce of sympathy for them. Again, no excuse at all. They are screw ups and don't deserve to have a kid. Please give us the Book, chapter, and verse that you interpret saying marriage is for reproduction. I cannot find it no matter how hard I try and I am in fear for my marriage because I cannot have children. History shows it can take as little as 14 years for this to happen (1918 - 1932) and we are several years into that time frame now.

I understand what your saying better than most will as my "husband" and I just had our ceremony and it was on the summer solstice at his request per his religion which is Pagan. I am a Christian. We did not get a license but are filing partnership paperwork for the insurance and medical rights. John, Thank you for your wit, highly enjoyable! I wrote this letter, and before I had to cut it down to 250 words I had quite a bit of information on the book of Leviticus. It makes for interesting reading. There is a bevy of websites with search-able text on the bible now which makes it so much easier to find information. Even having read and re-read my bible I cannot remember each and every verse. The phrasing of "man lying with man" was spoken directly to Moses. The people against gays use it almost unilaterally across the board as their reasoning, but refuse to abide by all of Leviticus for their daily lives because it is the old testament so it does not apply. I fail to see how one verse applies but the rest does not.
Beside that issue though, I do believe what I stated, the government has hijacked a religious ceremony to get more money out of the people. I don't believe they have the right to do so. If religion wants to keep it's word, then let it. The government has no right to it anyway.
