BUFFOONERY

I used to have a card that said: "Put brain in gear before opening mouth" - a credo our "beloved buffoon" evidently does not subscribe to. oh well, only 2 more years of being the laughingstock of the entire world.
i saw a bumper sticker that describes our governor(???) best - it sez "Impeach the bumptious buffoon" - couldn't have said it better myself.
i think he just keeps insulting the lowest paid workers in the world hoping they will quit so he can hire more of his relatives.

shaws or hannaford

two peas in the same pod - both owned by out of the country conglomerates.
and i'll bet the food city folks (where groceries are much much cheaper)are just jumping for joy. hannafords is one of the most overpriced grocery stores anywhere (except for shaws).
i shop three stores - food city, wal-mart and caswells.
hannafords driving philosophy can be summed up in 5 letters:GREED
their prices are 30-40% above food city and walmart. and their monster store is obliterating trees, polluting a wetland, ruining a neighborhood and adding more urban sprawl to the landscape. maybe mcdonalds can put a store right in the river.
and as far as the appeal against hannaford's goes - i guess the people that will suffer the most just didn't have enough money to pay off the judges.

isn't it amazing that a rank amateur homeowner hits a guy in the foot and the guys who are trained to use guns (in case you didn't catch it - the cops) always end up killing the guys who threaten them e.g. a woman on her porch holding a rusty shotgun and a guy in a wheelchair with a knife. protect and serve - spare me.

Educational deficit

i'm always impressed by a newspaper that lets the computer do its edititng. this article is a good example. are we to believe that this electronics firm is out to cheat the state of Maine and they are just another bunch of scam artists or did this fine publication just not check what they publish before they press PRINT?

if i'm not mistaken, when you go to this factory, you will find the employees DISASSEMBLING electronic goodies and not lying to the public as this article would have you believe in its title - DISSEMBLING

If this paper offered me that kind of free publicity for my business in a bad economy, i'd have to offer them a quote from a famous but misguided person - "THANKS BUT NO THANKS"

USOC hypocrites

a few years ago, i gave the USOC a donation to support the athletes which i totally respect due to their hard work at becoming the best at their chosen sport. i made it clear to the USOC that i could not afford any more but wanted to support the athletes as much as i could. what did the USOC do with my money? in the following year, they sent me over 20 more requests for more money effectively spending all the money i had given them asking ME for more money after i had told them i couldn't afford anymore. i told them to take me off their mailing list and that i would never send them money again. eventually, it took a call and letter to the state's attorney general to get them to stop. therefore, i have no sympathy for these guys and so say - GO REDNECK OLYMPICS~!!!!!!!!!

there may be some good ideas in the bible (may be) but if you take it for an interesting piece of fiction like shakespear or danielle steele, we'd all be better off. myself, i have a hard time reading a book that advocates and promotes such violent behavior in the name of a so-called supreme being who says he'll love you if you profess allegiance to him and who'll send you to a place you'll really suffer forever if you don't. fortunately it's only make-believe but unfortunately our current governor isn't. more business

to Bob Woodbury - our legislators aren't worried about conservation of anything least of all gasoline. i'm sure our beloved governor would point out that cars and trucks using more gas is good for business and regardless of his campaign promise that "it's about the people", that's his main agenda - business at the expense of people. he's already signed a bill allowing aerial pesticide spraying within 75 feet of your house with no notification.
more gas stations staying open later which means more electricity use which means more oil burned to generate electricity, more mechanics, more body shops. our legistlators aren't concerned about conserving anything including people's lives - most people don't know how to react at 45MPH in an emergency so now they can drive twice as fast. and now they got it through up there, it will be easy next year to increase it all the way to kittery. they already drive 75MPH on my street and the police do nothing about it. a famous newsman for Channel 6 used to have a sign on Route 302 by his house that said "Speed on - hell is only half full". they made him take it down claiming it was a billboard. those will be back next year too if you can read them at 75

So they voted down something that would have helped our native brothers. What a surprise. As George Carlin used to say, "in addition to all the other insults, then we named them after us - Native Americans". I bet not one native inhabitant of Washington County had any doubt how the vote would go. they probably didn't even bother to follow the new story. just another example of how the rapacious corporate **** and bigoted citizenry operate in this country. It sure is a good thing we killed most of them off with disease in the first place or they would have risen up and polished us off by now and we would have deserved it. to bad they didn't band together and finish us off in the 1600's - problem solved - the ultimate solution to immigration.

legislating for the sake of legislating

marc has it right. the repubs have pissed their time away and the people's money wrangling over snacks and desserts and other trivial things (like alienating the NAACP) instead of concentrating on things that matter. the voter registration bill is just typical of attacking a non issue and wasting time similar to voting down our right to be notified when someone is going to aerially spray pesticides near our property. now they can spray within 75 feet of your property without even telling you. (brought to you by our "brilliant" local representative). big business must be laughing all the way to the bank on how easy it is to bribe the Republicans and how cheap. if a state representative would sell out all his neighbors so he could spray his crops and just not mention it, what's next? i hate to think.
however, another state rep told me recently (a Democrat - Republicans would never mention this as they rather operate behind closed doors without that messy publics knowledge) that very few people actually contact their representatives to let them know directly how they feel about bills in the legislature. i guess if we don't participate, we don't have much complaint, do we? in this electronic age, it's easier than ever to contact these bozos rather than just whine about the results. so, get off your duffs and do it.

what a good idea - in a time of low employment, lets eliminate 150 more jobs. I bet those meter readers are just so grateful that CMP got rid of them. just as happy as i am about having CMP stick something on the side of my house that in time will be able to reach into my computer and see what i'm doing, who i'm talking to and what websites i visit. These are, after all, just wi-fi devices. Besides, if i want to piss away electricity and run up my bill, that should be my decision and not CMP. Eventually, CMP will be able to read how much juice you are using and if they don't want you to use it at certain times, they'll just shut off that appliance to teach you THE RIGHT WAY. Then guess who will be in control of your life - You? Wrong answer. Who invented these things - George Orwell? Next they'll be putting a webcam on them so they not only know what you are doing electronically but they'll see you doing it. And they get away with saying that it wasn't their idea. The feds made them do it. They're probably right. After all, 1984 has come and gone.

this BURNS me up

"employers would have more options" - yes like employing kids who should be studying so they don't have to work for scum who would cheat good employees under 20 and people that have been out of work for a long time out of a living wage. in a time of high unmemployment, employers should be thinking about how to stimulate the Maine economy instead of how to screw it. and Mr Burns from the poorest county in the state should be ashamed to even propose this. I'm sure all those high school grads down there in Washington County are going to be even more likely to stay there to work for even lower wages.
I say, let's follow the lead of countries to our south and save a lot of money by closing all the schools. Places like Columbia and Mexico are the smart ones. They put kids to work as young as 7 or 8 working 10 or 12 hours a day six days a week. It promotes family unity as the kids work right alongside the parents, they contribute to the family budget and the country benefits by not having to support all those money-sucking schools. We could overcome state and federal deficits in a couple of years if we just got rid of the schools. I'm calling my local legislator tomorrow to get a bill going and to get the minimum wage lowered to Columbia and Mexico's - 21 cents an hour. Isn't that an option employers would get behind? It's a win for everyone.

training wage

how about if we pay all those new Republican legilators a training wage. how about if they work the first 6 months of the legilative session for free and then if they don't do things like argue over desserts or murals when so many people in this state are hurting for food, heat and jobs, then we can decide to pay them or not.
this is the dumbest most discriminatory thing i have ever heard. legally at age 18, you are an adult but now you're saying those adults can't get paid the same as other adults doing the same job. the word DISCRIMINATION comes to mind. how about if we pay women and minorities even less. oops - if forgot - we already do that. i'd feel a whole lot better about all this new regime if they didn't keep stepping in it. once i've stepped in it, smelled it, and tasted it, i don't do it again but i guess the gov and the legislators must like the taste of all this stuff. me, i can smell it from here. -PU

history

maybe the quote we need here is : those who deny history are doomed to repeat it and, lo and behold, in a time when we are trying to raise the literacy rate in school and raise the number of Maine students who graduate from high school and raise the number of kids prepared to go on to college, those buttheads in Augusta want to let kids work as many hours as they want AND pay them an unfair wage for 6 months. what's next - going back to child labor, the 15 hour day, the mandatory 6 day week. It's a slippery slope and these laws were enacted for a reason. Most employers would never think of doing any of this but there are those who are pushing legislators to do this and once one worker protection is gone, it makes it easier to just keep taking them away. Hopefully not.

i repeat

i repeat, even if she was confronting police with a RPG, if they just shot her in the leg, she would have fallen to the ground and dropped the weapon. most people cops confront are not pro assassins but drunks or a little unbalanced and definitely not prepared to take out a bunch of cops. if cops can't handle guns any better than this, they better go into another line of work. and there's no need to shoot anyone more than once. this is absolutely shameful. i feel protected - yeah - right

RECALL RECALL RECALL RECALL

THE funniest part of this whole debacle is that the Gov never saw the mural except in pictures.
the disturbing part is its just one more example of his "bull in a china shop" approach to the people of Maine. I'm sure that works great for all the suckers at Mardens but his sneaky, underhanded way is wearing pretty thin and he's only been in business for 3 MONTHS. This combined with the outright lies e.g. "many people complained about the mural" but they won't say who and they move the mural over the weekend when noone is around and won't tell us who moved it or where it is or who is interested in having it (my guess is they destroyed it when they took it off the wall) or the gov had seen many reports BPA wasn't harmful but he wouldn't tell us what reports or committees meeting in secrecy - all this sounds a lot like a certain European country from a few years back. They didn't like black people either.
I'm guessing he wants all these workers rights laws lifted so businesses that don't have unions can come here and we can go back to the way things were when the governors ancestors were shipped down here from Canada and made to work from the age of 9 for 15 hours a day - 7 days a week - you know - businesses like LLBEAN - oops they're already here.
I'd say it's time to end this before it's too late but it's already too late. Recall - no, impeach this clown before he makes Maine the laughing stock of the USA. All the business he wants to attract won't be so hot to come to a state that's become a public joke.

training

i feel bad for all involved too but what i can never understand about these killings is supposedly officers are trained extensively in the use of their weapons. most of the people they face are not professional assasins but just drunks and loonies. why don't they ever just shoot them in the leg. that would throw most people onto the ground where they could be taken into custody. unless you were confronting a ruthless professional killer, most people are going to be so disconcerted by just the officers gun going off that they are not going to react with so-called "deadly force" but in a majority of cases when officers confront people, they end up killing them instead of fulfilling their mission - "to serve and protect". if you don't know how to use a weapon, stay behind a desk.

turnerpackrats's picture

RECALL -RECALL -RECALL

i sure hope those guys that did the removing got paid overtime but with Lepage's policies toward labor, he probably had them do it for free at gunpoint or he hired one of those out of state businesses he's wooing to do it. probably the one he wants to take over the state prison.
So, why don't the 62% that didn't vote for him get a petition going and get this butthead out of there before he does something that really affects all of us. If this bonehead can screw up this many times in 3 months, at the end of 4 years, we'll all be living in a police state.
RECALL - RECALL - RECALL -RECALL
I'm not computer savvy enough to start an online petition but if somebody out there is, let's get it going and deliver it to the state house with 62% of Maine voters signatures. hmmm -would that be a majority.

sorry miss taylor but the current dictatorial administration isn't interested in the facts or history but only in lining the already overstuffed pockets of every out of state corporation possible and then attracting them to Maine so they can pollute our environment and pay our workers low wages like they've done elsewhere - Wisconsin for example.
How about if we name the conference rooms Lepage 1 ,2, 3, 4, 5 or maybe something catchy like Goering, Goebbels, Ghadafi, Mabarik, Amin, Duvalier, etc.

I also think we need to have Mr L and his dog Mr Demeritt (I wonder if he curls up by Mr L's desk and has his own water dish) tested for Alzheimers as when a subject comes up, they always have a business that was adversely affected but when asked that businesses name - they can't remember. every time this comes up, there's always some libertarian whiner that knows someone who knows someone who would have been killed if they'd had their seat belt on. well, from one who wouldn't be posting this right now if i hadn't, i say baloney. i'd use stronger words but i guess sj won't let us. and the 70% who didn't buckle up and were ejected from their vehicle won't be posting here either. the point of seat belts is not about revenue but about health costs to the system when you are mashed against something hard in an accident and about being a good model for your children. also, if you're bouncing around your car like a ping pong ball and your kids are belted in, there's a good chance you'll be thrown into them.
statistics are not on your side and air bags alone won't save you and left on your own, you're not smart enough to save yourself by choosing to use your seat belts. i t hink the fine should be even higher esp. if there are kids in the car.
most rational people would agree that driving 100 MPH in the city, shooting your neighbor cause he reads the wrong magazine or strangling your child cause he won't eat peas is probably a bad idea. not wearing seat belts falls in the same category - stop being a baby.

layabouts

gee, i heard this same old tired mantra when i worked for DHHS 45 years ago. true, about 1/10 of 1% per cent cheat the system in some way but cutting programs that will cost you more in the long run because you didn't investigate the program enough doesn't sound like saving money to me. if the people on drug rehab or in mental health shelters end up in jail or the emergency rooms more often - you didn't save money, you spent 10 times more. those programs are pretty cost effective and put people back on the street that can actually contribute to society but hospitals and jail time are just stop gap measures and the people that come out are no better than when they went in plus both cost way more than the solution that got cut out of the budget.
When i was 23, i thought all these problems had black and white solutions but now i know its a lot more complicated than that and to wade into the budget with a meat ax instead of some contemplation of what you're doing is going to cost a lot more in the long run. but, hey, "it's about the people of Maine"

why don't our elected representatives who say they're going to make important changes stop worrying about huge profitable corporations and whoopie pies and get down to the business of making life better for the people of Maine. With all the budget, job, poverty, environment and health problems there are to solve, we need to stop wasting time with peripheral stuff. didn't our gov. say "It's about the people". Ruin that rep and we'll have a lot higher unemployment and a lot bigger hole in the budget. Sure, it probably won't show up in Adolf Lepage's blighted reign but after he's gone, we'll be paying for it for a long time. A good example is Mr. Timberlakes attempt to shortcircuit the 1/4 mile notification if an adjoining farmer is going to spray pesticides. Mr Timberlake is not an organic farmer so he could care less about spray drift - not his problem right. but if his toxic waste drifts onto a certified organic farm, it can put that farmer's certification and ability to make a living in jeopardy. also, if your house is in the path of that drift, you will be breathing it and 100 feet is not a big space when it comes to pesticide drift. many agricultural pesticides are linked to cancer and other diseases. It's not much of a burdensome obligation for farmers to notify all property owners within 1/4 mile much less our farmers who are state representatives to notify their constituents before spraying them with toxic chemicals. maybe they'll only spray democrat neighbors.

Dora Mills firing

he fired the first one, Mr Marple, for reporting that the amount of people on Maine Care had actually decreased last year. that went against one of Lepages campaign honks that he was going to take care of the increase in welfare. same problem - facts got in the way of what he thinks. my guess is the same thing happened with dora mills. i think within two years he will have dismantled Maine Care completely. what does he care? his health insurance is covered. maybe he can let his daughter take over.
INTERESTING FACTOID - many people shop at Marden's for the great prices - probably even a few poor people, however, Marden's doesn't accept Food Stamps. Lepage sez it isn't about politics - it's about Maine people - rich Maine people. Oh well, probably some of those WWII internment camps are still up in Northern Maine (you know, the ones they put the Italians they picked up in Boston and kept during the war) and they can put the folks on Maine Care in them.
Buy a sippy cup and send it to Augusta c/o Paul Lepage.
IMPEACH LEPAGE!

background checks

I'm buying Ted Geisel a bus ticket to Augusta. Sounds like they wouldn't even put him in jail in Maine. Not being able to mow down 32 people might interfere with his individual rights.

Page costs

Maybe Mr. Simpson wasn't a lawyer. When I appealed a case in Androscoggin County Superior Court, I requested a copy of the testimony in the case and was charged $3 per page for 96 pages or almost $300. When I got the bill from the other side's lawyer, I found that he had paid 50 cents per page or less than $50. Even this charge seems a little high in this age of instant digital imaging. How much does it really cost to churn out 100 pages and pay a min. wage clerk for 2 minutes time. Since they were copied on the same machine, that seems a little strange. So, I guess Mr Simpson just needs to become a lawyer and then his costs will go way down.

THIS IS TRANSPARENCY?

During the campaign , der Fuehrer stressed his administration wouild be completely transparent and it wasn't about politics - it was about Maine people. Well, evidently only the people he likes and only people as stupid as him that he doesn't feel threatened by. Also, I think his staff has realized that they better do the talking as every time he opens his mouth, he puts his foot in it. I don't remeber Baldacci or King or Curtis having a DEMERITT that told Maine people what the governor thought. But now every time der Fuehrer wants to say something IMPORTANT, it's a staffer we get and not the big cheese. Maybe those governors weren't afraid of being stoned or having rotten tomatos thrown at them by their subjects. Just as well as far as I'm concerned.I couldn't stand looking at or listening to that two faced a-hole that just left the white house - GW - and I can't stand the dough boy in Augusta. WHAT'S THE DOUGH BOY AFRAID OF? INTELLIGENT SPEECH AND THE TRUTH - EVIDENTLY.
Well - go to go - the guards are taking me down to the showers now.

Dora Mills firing

Between this, the debacle yesterday over the loan group that has been loaning money for the state for 20 years without a default and is suddenly risky and the stupid comment about women and BPA, its pretty clear the smell is coming from the Blaine Mansion. However, he won't have to worry about the shaving problem cause my guess is his wife doesn't live with him. He claimed he cut the inaugural ball to save money but i bet it was to dodge questions about why he would show up without a dancing partner.
So far in two months, he has shown himself to be racist, homophobic, sexist, anti-liberal, anti-science,anti-poverty, anti environment, pro rich and now, just plain stupid. We didn't get a governor - we got a dictator. can you ghadafi?
I have two words for him - no not those words. My words - IMPEACH LEPAGE!!
What's next - internment camps?

off to a bad start

like the bumper sticker sez "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance". this seems to be lepage's platform not transparency. if he's ducking questions already, what's it going to be like if we put this bozo in the blaine house. will he claim the homestead exemption on that property too?

missing pot plants

i know who took the plants. didn't the original article say the perpetrators were released on $500 bail. i'll bet they just went and took back their own property. i hope so. this is hilarious. if this doesn't say "legalize it", i don't know what does.

turner hannaford

finally - sanity starts to return. i know we have so many out of towners living here now that can probably afford hannafords vastly inflated prices that that is no longer an issue but the traffic one is. between its proximity to the 117 - Rt 4 intersection and the way people speed on rt 4, i'd be reticent to turn in there even if i could afford them. add to that, the problem of light pollution as these stores are always surrounded by 10 skyrillion megawatts of security lights and we have a great example of urban sprawl. i know i may be old fashioned but it seems totally unethical for them to locate so close to food city also. build it down in that scenic gravel pit next to the gas station - it'll fit right in there.

wouldn't this be a great place for all those billionaires that vowed to give half their fortunes to charity last week to put their money - come on gates, buffett, jobs, schott - cough it up!!

serious business

paper cuts could get infected. i'm surprised the officers didn't respond in their usual manner when confronted with a deadly weapon like a court order. in most cases like this in maine, those doughty denizens of the law who have had countless hours of target practice with their weapons usually just go ahead and kill the guy.

who's addicted

thats what burns me is that those who whine most about the legalization of marijuana are the ones who stick an addictive narcotic in their face 40 times a day and get their kids hooked or who down a couple of six packs a day and get their kids hooked.  marijuana isn't even addictive, you don't have to smoke it to enjoy it, you can drive when using it unlike alcohol and you can quit anytime. i would urge my kids not to smoke it cause smoking anything isn't good for the lungs but i'd lots rather having them using dope than have them die from lung cancer from smoking or driving when drunk.  loosen up , you cigarette smoking drunks.

hannafords

yes and i'll bet the folks who run the grocery store in the mafia mall are just jumping up and down with joy.  it must be nice to have enough money to pay hannafords rip off prices - an average of 40% above wal mart.  as everybody's favorite stupid politician sez "thanks but no thanks".  i'll keep going to the old grocer (if its still in business) and driving to places i can afford like walmart and caswells.  these bozos will have one of these damn megastores in every gunkhole in the state in a few years. thanx for supporting a foreign corporation e.g. hannafords owners.

turner laughingly expressed an interest a few years back in maintaining open space and the rural character of the town.  so much for that.  welcome urban sprawl.  its not bad enough we have to be a bedroom community for L/A - now we have to look like them too.

scrap metal

or if they are going to have to haul their own appliances anyway, why not haul them to the junk yard who is paying $165 a ton or more right now. i wonder if the city gets a kickback from that scrap place.

and then the rest of this stuff goes to destroy the environment when a lot of it normally gets hauled off by the pickers. but no, auburn chose to screw the environment, the poor and the residents all in one fell swoop. thank you, city of auburn (and lewiston)

it was my understanding that the maine catholic diocese bankrolled these guys to the tune of 3 mill. but i suppose now they need that money to defend themselves cause they turned out to be the homosexuals. as pogo said, "we have met the enemy and he is us"

and then the kids go to lunch after all this great education and get fed government processed crap.  there's not much point to teaching the kids good habits and educating them about the right way to eat if the school systems and the us gov aren't providing good food for them
