rebuilding the dam

I would like to see the dam rebuilt if its falling apart as long as they have a fish way for the fish to get through the dam and get upstream when needed to lay its eggs.
If the dam produces electricity, then rebuild it, but make sure the fish can get through the dam with a fishway.

Council candidate

I would not want to have a Council member or a Mayor to give the City a bad reputation and in trouble with the law and/or attacking children which are only 10 years old.
The City should not allow anyone like that to even be on the Council or even run for Mayor or any City position.

I wouldn't even support anyone like that.
I hope he spends 30 days or more in jail for even touching a child like he did.

That's my opinion of it.

bridge ownership

They thought of everyone but the right one.
The one that built the bridge in the first place is the Central Maine Railroad used the bridges to get to the station and when the park was filled with railroad tracks for the railroad daays of passenger service.
The tracks still remain under the walkway at the park in auburn and along the trail that goes under the street in Auburn and towards the Washington street area.

Building Inspectors

I can support more building inspectors for Lewiston as I have seen how bad looking most of them are and those that have been condemned and the landlord's haven't done anything to the building should be torn down or the city takes the building and fixes them up and sell the units to low income buyers and let the owners of each unit maintain the building.
There are a lot of buildings around Lewiston that needs to be cleaned up property wise and also the building needs to be fixed up so it doesn't make the area look bad and affect the other buildings that have been fixed up so it doesn't bring down the value of the other builds in the area.
Some owners that fix up their buildings do it to bring up the value as an investment, but there are those landlords that simply wants to collect rents and not fix up the building until they are just used up.
You can go around town and its easy to see what buildings owners care about and the ones that just suck the life from the building until its unsafe to live in.
If I was an inspector, I would help volunteer my time to help the city get an idea on how bad the problem really is so the city could decide what to do about the problem.

smoking

I see they talk about banning smoking in clubs, but they law that I have heard so much about which says smoking in public places is banned, but I noticed people are still smoking in public places such as sidewalks. Sidewalks are public places and they don't seem to care, but they stop public from smoking in places to eat, bars and other places. I would like to see the law stop the smokers from smoking while on sidewalks as I don't like the smell of the smoke I breath in when I go by them and I have breathing problems as it is.

New Governor

Well, we'll see if this one is like the last one or not.
But we all will see if they make cuts if the disabled or elderly will be the first as always.
The State of Maine has already shown very clear that Maine does not care about the disabled or elderly over the past few years as seen in newspapers too.

using real names on comments

I can see it now, some that doesn't like someone they know making a comment on a story turns around and starts making comment about that person to be mean or to ruin their life online. Whats to stop that from happening or someone trying to be someone else and makes personal attacks towards other to just to ruin the real persons life online.

There are lots of people like that because some can't get along or just plain hates the person.
Using real names just makes it possible to have others look up where they live or other things.
Just think about about all those that steal others ID or creates problems for others.
I'll have to see how the new system works out and check the paper to see if crimes against any commenters happens.

I have read in news sites about crimes against story commenters because they didn't like what was written.

sex charges

I have to wonder why people look at those sex offenders on the list for the area they live in when we have sex offenders that come from other towns and commit sex crimes.
How do you know if a sex offender is from another town and hanging around to watch kids or to commit a sex crime. I have to wonder if anyone ever thinks that other sex offenders plan to go to other towns knowing that others won't know who they are and hangs around our kids in the Lewiston/Auburn area parks.

I have to start wondeing how safe our kids are since we don't really keep track of out of town sex offenders or who they are.

Man stealing from those with walkers and wheelchairs

I make bags that can be carried over the shoulder and they are quite strong and secure.
Maybe I should start making a few for those in wheelchairs and using walkers and let them have them at only what it cost me to buy the material to make them.
I carry one of my bags , but I didn't care how it looks on myself but it does the job and it is secure for me.

I think I will talk to some of them about the shoulder bags when I go out.

But I think who ever is doing these robberies of those with walkers and wheelchairs still have to worry as they are still on the loose and I hope the cops catch them very soon.

parking areas

If they build these garages and expact people to use them, then why does the city continue to make more and more open parking lots that takes up more space when those areas could be developed for rental apartments or condos or even houses.

That is why the parking garages are not filling up. The chestnut garage has a parking lot on the other corner from the garage and down the street there is another parking lot from where a rental building was torn down, and a couple more down the street. So tell me how they think that people are going to use the garage to park in and pay for the space when there is free parking down the road.

Look at the garage at the corner of oak and bates, the garage is never full and then you have a huge parking lot next to it and hardly anyone using that because you have to pay to use it. Look at the free parking near that garage that people are using instead of the garage. All those lots could be used to build rental property and then the city would get more revenue, but they raher waste the money.

If the city was smart and wanted people to use the garages, close off all the other parking lots and build rental property since lots of people are looking for decent rents.

I have noticed that the city allows owners to build rental property and not enough space for parking and during the winter people have a hard time to find parking because they can't park on the street during the winter. Why isn't the city building parking garages in the residentual areas since parking is in big demand.

Get with it Lewiston City Hall, you all need to use common-sense. Wake up.

drivers don't pay attention to pdestrians

I have noticed that more and more drivers are not stopping for pedestrians since warmer weather is here.

But I noticed that more and more pedestrians are crossing against the traffic that do have the green light. Pedestrians need to wait to cross when its time for them to cross at controlled intersections.

I'm sure I'll see more accidents with car/pedestrians as warmer weather gets much warmer and some drivers think they have the right of way when they don't.

Drivers need to follow the laws much better than they do now and the same with pedestrians too.

Is the Auburn Council going

Is the Auburn Council going to act like children just like the Lewiston Council did, and they where wearing suits and nice clothes.
The Auburn Council needs to grow up. If they don't want to wear proper atire, then they don't need to be on the council looking like bums and we don't need to have people thinking the city is run by bums or adults acting like children.

I just want to point out

I just want to point out that all those people at Walmart or the Auburn Mall, how many there are sex offenders. Can you tell who they are, NO because they could be from another town and people around Lewiston and Auburn only looks at the list for the LA area. We don't know who or how many that are from out of town.

I have found 4 or 5 sex offenders out at the Auburn Mall hanging around and watching everyone. I don't like it when I see them staring at the kids, but I'm not getting into trouble for harassment either. I'm sure they could find better things to do besides sitting around the Mall doing nothing when they could find odd jobs around making money for themselves and staying out of trouble.

Those that harassed that panhandler could be in trouble because I read in the paper when they show a sex offender in the paper at the bottom it says harassment or threats is against the law.

I wonder whats really going

I wonder whats really going on as I see business's bypassing Lewiston/Auburn and going to Augusta.
There are lots of things bypassing Lewiston/Auburn and now it looks like they want to run the passenger train service to everywhere else but Lewiston/Auburn.

Someone or a few big investers seem to be making big business and other investments that Lewiston/Auburn isn't worth spending the money in this area and in a way, convincing those out there that Lewiston/Auburn is a slumming mill town that has no future.

I see and read about how money from the state is coming to Lewiston/Auburn and then it turns out they cut the amount of money or it ends up not coming to Lewiston/Auburn at all.

I've read or heard about the same thing with money from the federal government and then it gets cut before it gets out of Washington D.C. ..

Well, give it a good thought on how money and everything else gets allocated and then taken away when we really need the funds to help bring Lewiston/Auburn into the 21st Century with passenger rail service and all the other tech that can be used in a everyday life of Lewiston/Auburn.

I think Landlords need to put a provision in their least that if they do have power to the apartment, they can not stay there.
I think tenants are letting the power company turn off the power because they want to either party and not pay bills or either they just want to try and save money because its warm weather.
But I would have the least say they can't live in the apartment without electricity.

I was told by one of the workers doing the concrete wall that the end of the riverwalk was going to be very steep and didn't think that wheelchairs would make it.
I myself think the walk should be elevaated enough for those in wheelchairs to use it as well as those that can walk.
I hope I can get the city to fix the end of the walk not so steep and to make it enough for wheelchairs to use it too.
