Oh...
...a "Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na" post.
It's too bad...
...Mr. Romney has decided not to take the high road.
No..
That had been pre-determined long before the union came in. I could explain but I really don't want to name the company and I've been too long-winded all ready. No. I don't want to restrict freedom. Neither do I think dirty tricks are the way to go about it. And your responses have been a standard response when you do agree with the policies. Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black.
Here's my proof...
These comments are directed toward every union member in the state. They imply every union worker knowingly joins a union to extort money from an employer. “...extort from an employer...”
“I have never had or met even one employer who was out to exploit anyone. You can't possibly believe that. To imply that most employers do is just union propaganda.” This implies every employer, EVERY EMPLOYER, is pristine and has never done anything untoward to any employee. I have been a victim of this not once, but twice, once with a union, once without a union.
“...the real passive attitude is to pay some dues and hand your responsibilities off to others because of vague hand-waving about supporting the "workin' people". This implies all union members have no brains and cannot figure things out for themselves, they are just unthinking, ignorant lemmings. I suppose you believe that.
I worked at a place that was non-union. The workers wanted to form a union. Despite all the underhanded tricks the company attempted to prevent the vote, I still voted against forming a union, one of five negative votes. There were 39 in favor and a union was formed. I think 39-5 is fairly decisive. It's what my co-workers wanted. I joined the union. The dirty tricks didn't stop. As an example, employees found bad reviews in their folders without ever being notified they were there. The company brought in a new "manager" who wasn't a manager at all. He specialized in union-breaking. He was not successful. A few weeks later, we found out why all this was happening. The company was to be "right sized," not down sized, right sized, and the company would be free to do what ever it wanted if the union disappeared. It didn't, and as a result, those being right sized were given a decent separation package, something that probably wouldn't have happened without a union. It was to have been my last job and I retired. Didn't like it so I went back to work for another 13 years at a wonderful company, non-union, that treated it's employees wonderfully, as did two other non-union companies I worked for prior to the union job. I think you can see, for the most part, I prefer a non-union shop. But I also learned how helpful a union can be. To have an individual cast a blanket over an entire group of people, as the gentleman I was replying to did, is inexcusable, union or non-union. He is trying to move his agenda forward without regard to other people's feelings. We don't do that in Maine. At least we didn't before we got a business first governor. Just today, the papers announced our bond rating may go down, thanks to the programs of our business first governor. People (read government) need to talk with one another and come up with reasonable laws, not just say the hell with it and jam laws down our throats.
Just replying...
...in kind. In case you didn't read his post, he called a lot of people a lot of names, people he doesn't even know. They were totally unfounded.
Politics...
...before people.
Must be nice...
...to have enough money to "do what you want to do, go where you want to go" for a job. Sounds like you didn't need a job in the first place. If you've never met an employer out to exploit anyone, you haven't "worked" in too many places. Some people have to take what they can get wherever they are and you can't tell me they aren't exploited. You talk about Union propaganda like folks can't figure out what propaganda is and isn't. Your entire letter pre-supposes people are too dumb to know what they're doing. The result - you're part of the one percent. And certainly not "working people." In fact, you've probably exploited real working people for your own gain and would have cheered had not Bath Iron Works, Maine's largest employer, and it's employees reached agreement and put all those exploited people who don't understand union propaganda out of work.
Nice job.
Nice job.

For the most part...
...I'm with you, Paul. You just picked the wrong example. In fact, it was Bush, Chaney and their cronies (all oil barons) that began the slippery slope with rules and regulations that has become $4 a gallon gas. My point was if Republicans, Democrats, Independents (of which I am one), Greenies, etc. put all the time and energy they waste on blaming each other into finding solutions, we'd be a lot better off.
I guess I don't understand...
...why it is more important to blame people for something instead of trying to fix a situation. My only thought is that it's easy to blame someone, it's difficult to fix something.
I can't see...
...where this is a political problem. Why is it more important to assess blame than find a solution?
A lotta angry there.
And some very narrow minded opinions about something you admittedly have never experienced. Shoot from the hip much?
Sorry...
...the union kicked you out. Didn't follow your own rules about tattoos, body piercings, etc., I guess.
Why is the Catholic Church...
...trying to force the mandates of it's parishioners on everyone else? I thought it believed in the separation of church and state. Apparently not.
You're yelling again...
...Mr. Burke. Please stop.
First, Mr. Burke...
...don't yell at me. I don't believe I've ever done anything to offend you. Second, let's assume the gentleman in question is an excellent skier and would not have skied in excess of his prowess. Why we would do that, I don't know. But let's, just for the sake of argument. So why did he lose control and ski into a tree? Perhaps he had a medical condition (heart attack, stroke, etc) and skied off the trail. Perhaps he had been drinking and his skiing thought processes were impaired. As for his wife, from what printed articles have said, perhaps her yelling and screaming at the paramedics in the van (she is, after all, a professional trying to educate what are apparently non-professionals according to her - what did she say - she's a nurse practitioner - was a distraction to good driving habits and she was let out of the vehicle, thus solving the distraction problem. All of this speculation needs to be addressed, calmly and professionally, and that takes time. I know you're in a hurry, Mr. Burke. Everyone is, nowadays. That's why they exceed speed limits, don't stop at stop signs, go in the out door, go up the down aisle. Hurry, hurry, hurry. Fairness takes a little longer.
Just curious...
How do those who wish to dictate how a woman uses her body feel about artificial insemination?

There is nothing...
...nefarious about my statement. It is straight forward. There are no religious or political connotations and I would appreciate it if you don't try and turn it into one for your own purposes. If you live in Lewiston, you give to the local rape crisis center. If you live in Maine, you give to homeless shelters and/or food banks. If you live in the United States and you have been touched by cancer, alzheimers, MS, etc. you give to one of those. If this isn't plain enough for you, I'm sorry. There will be no more replys.
Could you be...
...a little more clear, please. In doing so, you may answer your own question.
I still think...
...charity begins at home. That would include the countries which house "the neediest on the planet."
How was the Churchill facility financed?
What did it cost the taxpayers? What is it costing the taxpayers today? Does that amount, plus the monthly electric bill, amount to a savings (very, very cheap isn't very definitive)? Where were the turbines made that produce the electricity? Did they come over from China on fossil fueled ships? Since the rail system across Canada was built by Chinese, I have to ask where the workers who built dam # 1 and are building dam # 2 are from. And the materials, as well. Since Labrador takes in bundles on money from Atlantic salmon fishermen, what was the cost of fish passage? Same questions for dam #2. There's also a huge dam on the Ottawa River west of Mattawa. As the crow flies, I believe it's closer to Maine. Wouldn't electricity from there be cheaper than Labrador? I don't know. I'm asking the expert. Maine was built on hydropower when? 1800's? Aren't many of those dams now considered outmoded and are being removed (Newport's city fathers removed one voluntarily recently). Edwards dam in Augusta? Winslow dam? I'm not an expert on dam removal, but I seem to read about them in the paper fairly frequently. The only recent dam I can recall being built is in Benton. I don't know these things, Ms. Gray. Enlighten me.
I have no doubt...
...the noise is real - TO YOU - but you're telling me I'm a liar even though I was there, in Mars Hill and at a couple of farms that went on for miles in the mid-west. That's OK. I'm a liar. See, I've reconsidered and you're right. We should cling to our dependence on foreign oil with our good friends in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and South Sudan. They will never let anything happen to us. That great power, the South Sudanese navy, will take care of keeping the Straight of Hormuz open, although I don't think our good friends in the mid-east would close it on us. Which is a good thing because South Sudan doesn't have a navy. I suppose they could fire AK-47's from shore, like Viet Nam. That would keep wars going, with is always a good thing for manufacturing. Not so good for our kids, however. Yes - dependence on foreign oil is a good thing. And please - no entreaties for hydro. That went by the boards 20 years ago.
I think it's wonderful...
...how you diagnose my infirmities never having met me. A sign of someone who is unsure of what he's saying is to begin by name-calling. I reported what I heard. You didn't like it. You wouldn't like anything anyone said about anything positive about wind power, which is approved by over 70 percent of the state's residents. You even become an apologist for the ski industry. You speak only of the towers, not the rape of the hillsides. And you've done a little building of your own - tunnel vision.
So you equate...
...turkeys with mountain lions and wolves. OK>
I understand.
Completely.
I think it's nice...
...the Bishop won't be using birth control methods. His parishioners, however, are a different story.
If wolves and...
...mountain lions return to Maine on their own, I'm all for it. I'm against artificially introducing species, such as elk for example, where they do not want to be. It's not nice to fool Mother Nature.
I agree.
However, I believe Mr. Nutting was fined a considerable amount which either has been paid or is in the process of being paid. If I am correct, he has paid what the courts said he must pay and is now even. If I am incorrect, I apologize. Again, I agree with what you are saying.
"...0.08 isn't drunk."
Who died and made you the judge?
I wonder...
...if the Sun Journal published pictures of the tops and sides of mountains that were blown away to create ski areas. Since anti-winders are always, day after day, hour by hour, month after month, year after year, complaining there IS noise, it is news when they find NO noise. Ergo, the headline. I have been to Mars Hill. I have stood next to wind farms that extend for miles along highways in the mid-west. The only noise I heard was the cattle grazing under the towers and mooing and the songbirds singing. But that, of course, doesn't count, does it Mr. Michka. Oops, your bias is showing.
Maybe...
...Washington County voters didn't have picture ID's to vote. Maybe Mr. Paul used shuttle busses to bring college voters to the polls by the hundreds. Just sayin'.
Happy...
...Valentine's Day.
A agree with you....
....100 percent. I do wonder, however, as to how much time during the day that parent is on Facebook and why.
Nope.
And I think you need to loosen up a little. Just sayin'.
I would contend...
...that my facts are at least as good as your facts as well over a majority of folks in this state are in favor of wind power - something opponents seem to have an abundance of.
Takes one...
...to know one.
Well said...
...by an anti-wind shill.
Hate to disagree...
...with a Maine Master Guide, I really do, but the editorial presented the facts in a logical, reasonable manner. You just didn't like it.
I wonder...
...how many table game instructors there are in Maine, qualified to teach Mainers their job at the casino. Considering how welcome table game operators have been in this state, I would guess not many. I wonder whose head THAT is on.
The President doesn't spend money.
Congress does.
You are given the facts above.
You just didn't like 'em.
And you chose...
...to live at the base of a mountain in the wilderness.
You base your comment on...
..."I have heard it said..."? C'mon, Elaine. What do you take us for?
Would all these people...
...voluntarily choose to live in the wilderness next to these installations?
Not even close...
...to being confused. Unfortunately, your eyes are closed.
Simpler...

Dream on
Dream on.
Does the kid (Hersom)...
...play baseball?
Huh?
Huh?
How come...
...you glossed over the fact the President has gotten zero cooperation from the Republican party, which is more interested in party politics than moving the country forward?
Mr. Tierney...
...seems to be back into politics all ready. He asks why New Hampshire residents make more than Maine residents when he knows many work in Boston, where pay is better, and live in New Hampshire, where cost of living is lower. He knows that, but panders to unknowing Maine folk by saying we're as good as they are. So Mr. Tierney is being political again, telling half-truths as politicians are wont to do. Actually, we're BETTER than they are. I won't go into the PUC, winds farms or health care financing but with the example all ready given, I'll leave you to judge what he's saying, and NOT saying, about those topics. GO Class of '65.
OH NO!!!!
I KNOW YOU'RE THE SMARTEST MAN ON EARTH AND HAVE NEVER BEEN WRONG.
That's OK.
You answered my question.
Just curious.
How do you feel about artificial insemination, where thousands of children are created artificially.
Great work!
Keep it up.
The governor's plan...
...is not to cut expenses, it's to lop off the head of MaineCare.
Don't forget,
Mr. Tremaine - if he doesn't get away with maiming the sick and elderly, he'll take it out on the kids.
WOW!!!!
We have THAT many dishonest people in Maine!!!! What a corrupt state this must be with only two honest men in it and both, coincidenally, named Charlie (as in Brown).
I guess...
...there's something to be said about wearing your religion on your sleeve. I'm not sure what that might be, however.
What happened...
...with the fund raiser?
I agree...
...with everything except your statement about pandering to seniors. It cutting medical treatment for 65,000 seniors pandering?
Atta boy, gov...
If the governor can't get the elderly, he'll get the kids. Except the rich kids, of course. They'll be in private schools. Go get 'em, gov.
Just another victory...
...for our jobs first governor. We don't need your stinking 600 jobs. Go to ... Wisconsin.
You said...
..."Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez may be headed for legendary duo status in New England, joining a surprisingly short list (Orr/Esposito, Lynn/Rice, Belichick/Brady, of course, and then who?)"
How about Cousy and Sharman?
It seems...
...learning on their own gets them killed. I don't suppose parents have any responsibility in this. Naw. They're too busy with their own drinking to bother with their kids. The kids will take care of it. Drinking is the most important thing a person can do. They even spend thousands of dollars to go to college to learn how to drink.
You say...
...kids have to learn to drink on their own. Why?
Just the cost...
...of doing business. Is that right?
So because...
...it's an old story, it's less true I guess. Like your governor, you don't want to be bothered with facts. Believe me, I completely understand.
A great story...
...about two great guys. Thank you.
And you think...
...passing a law will stop texting and talking on the phone while driving? Let me ask - do you really stop at stop signs - do you run red lights - do you obey the speed limit - do you always use turn signals - you get the point.
Please read my reply...
...to Ms. Pease below. Thank you.
Thank you.
I appreciate all your help. I truly do. I have over time learned to take "expert" opinions with a grain of salt. With every expert "for" you can find another "against", both with compelling arguments. I saw nothing in the above material that gave us facts on how many avians would be impacted. Having concern about this particular subject, I have read several pieces, none of which give accurate numbers. There are many large wind farms in the mid-west. Avian interference has been "minimal". In regard to noise, one of these farms went on for miles, several hundred cows were grazing and didn't seem to be bothered by any noise. I left my window open the entire length of two fairly large farms, stopping occasionally, and heard nothing. I have made two trips to Mars Hill. I have listened in two different places on the separate trips and again, heard nothing. I have not made up my mind about wind farms. If they can supply electricity economically, with minimum damage to the ecology, I would probably be in favor of them, based on my experience. I am concerned about folks who throw what might be considered emotional roadblocks. There are today a certain number of birds killed by tall objects. That includes buildings, probably more than three stories tall, and our present power lines that have been in place for many years, but no evidence they have been a major contributor to avian mortality. I don't live in Lexington, so I don't have the NIMBY problem to worry about. If wind farms are bad, and there are documented facts to back it up, I'm with you. But when I consider all the huge wind farms that have all ready been constructed, I have to think they can't be all bad.
You said...
"No doubt NRCM’s wind developer buddies thank the staff handsomely: indeed, I’ve read about some generous “gifts” to various conservation projects."
Name one. Just one.
"The turbines kill thousands more birds and bats than the industry admits, and the sound reportedly makes people sick."
Verification?
"the high-voltage power lines are creepy, dangerous and ugly."
A Freddie Krugar quote?
Just a couple of questions...
1. How long did you compare the two meters side-by-side to determine the "infinite amount of usage" measured by the new meters and how is your electric bill lower when you're being charged an addition $12 a month for nothing?
2. Where did you read smart meters screw up garage door openers and security systems and how reliable was that source? It's not National Enquirer reliable, is it?
We are surrounded...
...by RF from several different sources every day. I'm curious to know why this particular source bothers you.
He shouldn't do...
...what anyone else did. He should do what's right for this state at this time. Thus far, he's failed to perform. Just this week he said he could solve medical problems if he were the czar of the housing department. He wants complete control and no one else's opinion is worthless - even yours, Joe.
In the official...
...L.L. Bean history, it clearly states Bean had his middle name changed.
I apologize.
From now on, all my posts will be deadly serious.
Just curious, Mr. Shields...
...if the Democrats haven't gotten the actual figures, how did you get them?
Patience, David...
...patience.
It looks like the new mayor...
...was the only one there with a tomato pinned to his lapel.
You got that right!!!!
"And that Maine high school basketball is a better place with Gavin Kane in it."
I believe...
...the bills he signs are passed by Congress. You're right - next November, vote this do-nothing Congress OUT.
Are you sure?
"...this committee also has elected legislatures..."
You don't suppose...
...the Legislature had anything to do with this, do you? Last I knew, the President didn't pass laws, the Legislature does.
You're right about one thing...
"When it comes to industrial wind, Gov. Paul LePage knows the facts." He's full of it.
Ooooops
The dreaded semantics monster.
Mr. Elze...
To help save the economy, the Government will announce
next month that Immigration and Customs Enforcement will start
deporting seniors (instead of illegal's) in order to lower
Social Security and Medicare costs.
Older people are easier to catch and will
not remember how to get back home.
I started to cry when I thought of you.
Then it dawned on me ... oh, crap ...
I'll see you on the bus!
I'm sorry...
...Wasn't Gen. Washing at war at the time and doesn't that change the dynamic, if only just slightly?
My what
?
Lie after lie
after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie
Another Queen of Hearts solution...
Instead of finding where the fat is and cutting it, cut the whole thing - Off with their head!!!!
So we dismantle one agency...
...but everyone in that agency will be transferred to the other agency assigned to do that job. No savings there. Now - we create a new agency, designed to save a million dollars a year. Does that count the salaries of the people in the new agency?
You forgot.
No Little League. We got together in the neighborhood field, chose sides by tossing the broken bat that had been nailed together, the ball was covered in black electrical tape, the bases were anything that happened to be laying around (hub caps, cardboard boxes, a tree, etc.). We had no umpires but calls were made and there was very little argument. We played until dark if we began after supper or until Mom called us for supper if we started after school. Despite playing on two separate teams, we all finished the game friends, telling who ever made nice hits that they had a nice hit or made a fine defensive play as we walked home together. And for the most part, we all turned out pretty well.
When you don't have an answer...
...kill 'em with semantics.
OK...
Now that that's out of the way, let's find some more poor people on whose backs we can balance the budget.
Well done.
Thank you.
...and criminal threatening with a fireman.
I'd like to see that.
Thank you, Ms. Caron.
Well said. Let's hope the right people are listening.
To all the Phoenix...
...best of luck from an old Andie (40's). But particularly to my old friend Gavin - not only an outstanding coach but more importantly, an outstanding human being.
The rest of the story....
He was hired to do a job where there was a clear conflict of interest, which Mr. Brown and the governor refused to acknowledge. When the hue and cry became too loud, they gave up their lost cause and Mr. Brown was thrown a bone. He has now consumed the bone and is headed home, tail firmly ensconced between legs. Sometimes politics can be cruel and just doesn't allow you to do any darn thing you want. Probably the first time in his life someone said "no" to Mr. Brown.
Ok.
I believe you - you're a purple frog.
I can't...
...but you CAN count the jobs gained without counting the jobs lost. That's what you did in your original post. And if you think I believe that propaganda graph you linked me to, I've got a mural I'd like to sell you.
And about six weeks ago....
...Maine lost over 300 jobs in the space of a week.
So you're saying...
...the excuse for keeping the Bush tax cuts in place (create jobs) is bogus and no matter what our governor says or does, there will be no new jobs. That's rather depressing and possibly a self-fullfilling prophesy.
Another one...
...bites the dust.
George -
On what do you base your statement: What they are is a liberal older folk abuser organization.
If you need help...
...get it.
"Justin didn't want to be labeled or stigmatized," Smilek said of his son's reluctance to seek help. "Society views you differently, and he didn't want that."
This is not necessarily true. At any rate, it's not worth a life. And Togus is a great place. They'll give you back you. You'll be whole again. Please...let them help. And thank you for serving and helping us.
The sooner men...
...are eliminated completely, the sooner the world will become Eden, right Misses Robinson - or are you trying to seduce me?
In no way...
...am I excusing Coach from ANY responsibility, just making a correction to the above letter. Pennsylvania law prescribes sexual abuse witnessed by teachers and coaches are to be reported to their immediate superiors. Coach followed the law with, I'm sure, the expectation his superiors would follow the law and pass his report along to the proper authorities. That wasn't done. I agree with the letter when it says: "Whenever we have reason to suspect that a child is being assaulted or abused, we must do whatever we can, whatever is necessary to protect that child. We should call the police, and/or call Child Protective Services, and insist that they take action. There is no institution, no reputation, no relationship, no person that is more important than protecting a child who is being hurt or is at risk of being hurt."
That's the bottom line.
We're from Winslow...
...and visit Shaner's two or three times a year. I'm sure there are many other families "from away" who make Shaner's a regular stop when ever we're in the area. We're all glad to have you back.
First...
...The Mall of America has more employees than Lewiston, Auburn and the surrounding communities combined. Wanna start again?
Under the Thomas review...
"...who averaged 20 points a year..."
That probably averages out to less than a point a game. If she's one of the top returners, things not looking good for the Terriers.
Why do I get the feeling...
...this is the wrong photo?
And this is relevant...
...because?
If all casinos are built...
...and some or all fail, or thrive, isn't that the way our system is supposed to work? Why would you not give it a chance to work the way it's supposed to. Are you too scared the system might work?
Speaking of weak and biased...
...have you seen the latest "NO" commercial?
Nice job, Cris.
Thank you.
This latest "NO" ad says...
...there are more outsiders voting to steal our elections than there are Maine residents who vote. Wanna buy a swamp?
Actually...
...No. I haven't. I all ready knew.
All in the name of...
...getting high.
Why is that?
Why is that?
Is it only...
...liberal politicians that want a casino. If that's true, I don't think there are that many of them so if you're against casinos, you have nothing to worry about.
Too bad, Debbie.
You're voting for a solution looking for a problem.
Now with his proposal...
...to limit local control and take away education money, honeymoon's over. Foot firmly entrenched in mouth once again.
This law is a solution...
...looking for a problem.
Fair and accurate elections...
...have been held in this state year after year after year. This is a solution looking for a problem.
So you...
...would let them go because they are victims.
So she's wrong...
...because you found a technicality and that negates her entire argument. Get a life.
Oh, I see.
We're at the nah, nah, nah, nah, nah phase now.
You say...
...using road miles is sneaky. How many people would go by air. You asked why the rush when you admit there is no rush. That's pretty sneaky. You're entitled to your opinion, but don't back up your point with rhetorical falsehoods. The only reason to do that is if in your heart of hearts, you think you might be wrong.
There is no rush.
Casinos have been proposed for years and years and years.
Sorry...
...should be "tower" and "they aren't".
Just curious...
Where would a rower be acceptable. I would assume since they are acceptable in remote areas, the would be acceptable within Lewiston's city limits - or Portland - or Bangor - or Watereville - right down Main Street, maybe attached to light poles which all ready block seeing the stars at night.
Since Republicans...
...control Congress, and nothing has been done, who would you guess might be holding things up?
I contend...
...passing this law was political harassment.
Perhaps you'll do this list...
...with retired coaches. If you do, I'd like to nominated Dick McGee and Pete Cooper, although technically, Pete isn't retired.
I wonder how...
...the good representative from Newcastle would replace the approximately $15,000 per student (approximately $3,000,000) in tuition the state would lose by making out-of-state students residents.
I feel sorry...
...for Mr. Martin. Mr. Summers has not exactly been on a roll lately.
If the Republicans cared...
...they now have the power and could change the law. They didn't. They don't care. In fact, this Congress has been a do-nothing Congress. Ooopppps, Sorry. It has spent its time blabbering about Obama instead of doing something constructive.
Changing the law...
...after all these years could be characterized as conservative political harassment.
Sumner who?
Sumner who?
I believe...
...it's time for Mr. Webster to return to private practice.
Well done.
Thank you.
Guess you didn't read...
...about the fantastically smooth transition between two arch rivals into a single unit - Livermore Falls and Jay High Schools into Spruce Mountain High School. Just one example, but I thing folks see what they want to see and don't see what they don't want to see.
All you need to do...
...is move.
It's time for Mr. Summers, Esq...
...to go back to private practice.
There doesn't seen to be...
...a comprehensive report. However, I was able to find an incidence of 13 deadly force investigations by the AG's office from January 2008 to April 2010, an average of 4.3 a year. Seven of the incidents were by town police departments, three by state police, two by county sheriffs and one Indian Township officer. Hope this is helpful.
You need to speak...
...to the FRepublicans, not the President. The Republicans are in charge in Washington, now and can do anything they want. They can also do nothing, and blame the President. So far, this has been a do-nothing Congress.
Just a thought...
3/22/11 - A total of 162 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty last year, up from 117 in 2009. So far this year, 49 officers have lost their lives, a 20 percent rise from the same time last year.
20 days later, from 49 to 57 killed:
4/11/11 - (CBS News) ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The police killings began Jan. 1 with the fatal shooting of a deputy in Ohio. And the violence has continued, reports CBS News justice correspondent Bob Orr.
So far this year, 26 officers have been gunned down - 44 percent more than the 18 shot and killed at this point in 2010.

You'll be...
...SORRY!
Who are they...
...and where are "they" doing this?
This is Class B?
Really?
No, no, no.
This is the NEW Morning Sentinel building, which I have said since it was built would make a great city hall. There are hardly any Morning Sentinel employees left.
Hey, Gov!
Wanna buy a bridge?
No.
I've never known you to be wrong. And I'm not even going to attempt to answer you as that will just result in a hundred more reasons why I'm wrong.
If she didn't do that...
...you would take her to task for ignoring facts. Let's face it. You don't like her. You have a vendetta and will twist anything and everything to cast aspersions on her. You really don't need to reply. I bow to your superior intellect. You're always right. I'm always wrong. You are infallible. I am stupid.
No.
In regard yo "your area", I don't suppose my 12 years in newspapers, eight in television and 18 in radio counts, does it. So all those years covering stuff in the LA area was good for background material but not much else, right?
The Sun Journal...
...doesn't hire qualified local people like you because apparently, you don't apply.
How can electric rates in Maine...
...be lowered. Natural gas is definately NOT the answer.
You have all the answers.
Why are our rates so high?
An Oakland couple...
...exited the ship the day before.
My daughter...
...who is now 50 years old and still living at home, was born without a functioning thyroid. I won't go into detail but you could look up, if you're at all interested, to see how that manifests itself. You will find that's not unusual in an adult, but it was the first time, ever, it was diagnosed in a newborn infant. I also will not go into detail about what we then had to go through as parents. She receives Social Security disability and for several years, SSI. You can choose to believe me or not, but she is not a slacker, she is not a faker, she is not an addict and she is not a drunk. We used her SSI to teach her about a very important abstract - money. Another abstract she had trouble with was telling time. I would be interested, very interested, to know how you characterize her.
Show me.
Do something positive for a change.
Bottom line...
My paycheck said, right on it in black and white (or what ever color they were using on my check) that this amount of money is for MY Social Security. It said that for 53 years. If that money is no longer there, it has been stolen. Those who stole it need to either put it back or go to jail, like any other thief. I don't want anything special. Just the money taken out of MY paycheck for 53 years.
Show me
your grand daughters plan.
OK.
Show me.
From what I understand...
...solar has the same complaints and drawbacks as wind; wood will decimate our forests, which includes mountains and not just on top; I've heard of methane coming from cows but not from water, so you've got me there.
Never mind...
...oil and natural gas will be as common as dinosaurs sooner than we realize. Then what would you suggest?
Please...
...where did you get your stats?
I totally agree...
...with the first part of your statement.
I believe...
...the headline writer took a phrase from Mr. Ruff's letter, which I presume, since you didn't notice that, you didn't read. Which just adds to the believability of your rant, don't you think? I have nothing to do with the situation. But if the previous person had the low bid, all insurances and equipment and had done a credable job, and the new person has no experience, and we have to believe on faith he actually has the equipment he has pictures of, and he hasn't yet purchased the proper insurance, then as a responsible person, I think I'd want to dig into this thing a little deeper. You apparently don't think so, that everything is hunky dorey. Are you a relative of the new bidder?
Oh come now.
These people are only trying to get into the highest tax bracket so they don't have to pay taxes and create more jobs cheating Medicare. C'mon!!!! If it wasn't for these patriotic folks, you couldn't complain about ObamaCare.
Mr. Marchesi...
...is now teaching a course in grasping for straws.
Hear, hear!!!
Great move!
As a former Andie -
(late 40's, early 50's) I would hope coach Tag would be given a place of honor for the parade and at the game. He's not just a great coach, he's a great human being.
Hey, Jason -
You just pointed out the Democrats' two biggest pluses are Paul LePage and the Tea Party.
Who ever buys it...
...has a lot of painting and wall papering to do.
So am I, Doris.
But I am curious. Why?
Nice going, Michael.
We're proud of you. And I'm sure your late Dad (always Toots to me) is extremely proud as well.
The wealthy...
...are all ready doing that.
Obviously...
...you don't get out much. The proof lies in your reference to Nazism. There is a complete lack of discipline on the part of parents these days, with barely any responsibility for a childs education. As junior breaks a jar in the grocery store, you can hear the mother yell at him not to do that. That's it. No punishment. Then the parent denies the kid did anything, the jar simply fell off the shelf. Teachers are not allowed to discipline children anymore, under the threat of a law suit. Why such high unemployment? Look in the mirror.
You're speaking of...
...ski areas, right?
I believe...
...the first mention of who Spruce Mountain was playing is in the 10th paragraph.
Are you accusing me...
...of being an illegal alien?
I tried, and failed...
...to get your head out of the sand. Oh woe is me!
Depleting oil...
...depleting and dirty coal. That's planning ahead. Nice job!
The 61%-ers...
...will be heard in the next election. Count on it.
I give up...
...what does Baldacci have to do with LePage's performance - or lack of it. Oh, I see. A smoke screen to cover up the truth. Or lack of it.
I thought...
...it was YOU who approved the letters for this publication. After all, you tell anyone who disagrees with you what their mental deformities are.
English translation...
...you have absolutely NO idea.
Congratulations!!!!
You have skillfully avoided my question.
Such as...
...Just a wee bit more, please.
Such as...
...just a wee bit more, please.
What would you use...
...in it's place?
What would you use...
...in it's place?
Exactly.
It is more important for Republicans to vote for Republican things and Democrats to vote for Democratic things rather than do what's right for the people. The people are only lemmings, to be allowed to fall over the cliff. The privileged shall inherit the earth.
No.
You all ready did all these things. You have the most remarkable tunnel vision I have ever seen. You shut everything else out. You took your ball and bat and went home long ago. You're not interested in debate. It's my way or the highway. You aren't wrong about the process. You're a prime example. If my vision is clouded, yours is blinded. Just an observation. What you are calling my liberal tendencies is just the ability to listen to both sides of an argument and, if necessary, compromise for the good of the majority. You are so far right, there is no left. I'm glad you're comfortable with that. But here's a quote from another story in this paper today from what I would consider to be an unbiased source, as at time I agree with his/her opinion and sometimes disagree..."Our economy is in the tank until the two prevailing parties decide that cooperating to fix it is more important than winning."
I know you'll reply to this. You HAVE to. You have to have the last word and win.
Oh - The latest on Bush's war...
"Al-Qaeda's second-in-command, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, has been killed in Pakistan, delivering another big blow to a terrorist group that the U.S. believes to be on the verge of defeat, a senior Obama administration official said Saturday."
You have a blind spot.
There is absolutely nothing I could say you would agree with. So let's put an end to this. You're right. I'm wrong. Feel better?
It's a good thing...
...he got there around midnight or there wouldn't have been any black pipes.
"...When he was halfway across, he climbed over the railing and onto the black piping that runs underneath the bridge around midnight,"
This will come as a shock to you...
...but I'm not confused.
Thank you for your help...
...but I REALLY CAN take care of myself. I know what I want to do. One thing I DON'T want to do is get bogged down by semantics. That's what politicians do to avoid doing their job.
You ask for a list...
...I give you a list and say there's even more. You don't like the list. Can't help you.
I still want...
...to participate in a democratic society. I register in each party before its primary so I can make my voice heard. After each primary, I re-enroll as independent.
A few accomplishments...
enforcement of equal pay for women; began withdrawal of troops from Iran; family of fallen troops expenses covered to Dover AFB; media blackout on deceased soldiers and their return to Dover AFB; stopped policy keeping soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan past their withdrawal date; phased out outdated weapons, even those being used inIraq and Afghanista; Gitmo being phased out, also new "no torture" policy (you may be able to tell I'm a vet and volunteer at Togus); removed restrictions on stem cell research; increased infrastructure spending; new funds for school construction; Auto bailout (whixch I hated at the time, but the money has been/is being paid back and companies made some hard choices (Pontiac's gone. Would rather not talk about the bank bailout. If you've seen the Southwest Airlines commercial about the guy charging a change fee - that's the bankers. Now Buffett is giving $5B to BOA instead of to charity like he said he would. Banks should be allowed to fail); this is getting pretty long. You want more?
He has made...
...many, many logical and meaningful suggestions that, had they been acted on, would have pulled us much, much closer to solvency. Unfortunately, tunnel vision opponents have said they didn't care what he proposed, the would be opposed. He can't do it alone. No man can. There needs to be compromise. That, unfortunately, has become an outdated concept. He hasn't been given even a remote chance by those who don't even acknowledge his existence. If you have a job, you know you can't do that job alone. I was put in a highly responsible position at a very young age in a vocation in which I had very little experience. I had five departments and 65 people reporting to me and I wasn't yet 25. It didn't take me long to find out I was as good an administrator as the people whom worked for me. If they had decided to work against me, I had no chance. Unfortunately, members of Congress today are forgetful of the fact of for whom they work. I paid into Social Security and Medicare for 53 years. The government stole that money. The money they stole is now called an entitlement and needs to be cut. I'm only asking for MY money back. Not yours. Not theirs. Mine. A government for the people, by the people? Not any more. Tunnel vision folks. My way or the highway and thank you for paying my outrageous salary and for my lifetime medical with your entitlement money.
So far -
I've only found one with serious doubt. And I do have serious doubt about that one.
I'm 73.
You can stop jumping to conclusions now. My great-grandfather, who was an MD in the Civil War (mule driver), my grandfather, my father and I were all life-long Republicans. My affiliation with that organization ended emphatically with Bush II. I am now a registered independent. My voting record has always been one in which candidate was better for me. It had nothing to do with party. I did not blindly vote for a person because of what they called themselves, like so many folks are doing these days. After the debacle in Washington this past year, I believe the two party system is now destroying this country because no one talks with anyone. Both parties are parties of "my way or the highway." Is this a great country or what?
And from your reply -
neither is anyone elses.
Just curious -
You said "there is serious doubt in the minds of many". Name one, besides yourself.
No, Mike -
He won't be alone.
Give it to the governor.
He'll put it in safe storage for you.
Yes, Bob...
...corporations are people and the heads of corporations a really, really rich people, getting richer every day on the backs of their employees.
It's about time
"Maine Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen calls that nonsense."
Hear, hear!!!!
Mr. Belanger -
What's your term for brutality against police officers?
3/22/11 - A total of 162 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty last year, up from 117 in 2009. So far this year, 49 officers have lost their lives, a 20 percent rise from the same time last year.

Actually...
...those busses (a second one for the Republican presidential nominee) were ordered by a previous administration. But, I suppose, a '57 Chevvy would be more appropriate.
Yea...
I guess a '57 Chevvy would be more appropriate. By the way, did you happen to notice when those busses (there are two, one going to the Republican presidential nominee) were ordered and what presidents were using for busses before? Thought not. Just read what you want to, Rev, and ignore the rest. It's easier that way.
Who is
O'Keefe?
Huh?
Wanna re-write this in English?
Once upon a time...
...in a galaxy far, far away, stores were closed on Sunday. As in didn't open. Closed.
A guy carrying concealed...
...goes to walk into a store where a guy is standing out front carrying openly. Concealed, thinking open carry is going to fire on the crowd, pulls his weapon and fires, killing the open carry. Justifiable homicide? I think that's as likely to happen as any other scenario they can come up with to carry and show the world how macho they are.
We go to Minnesota by car...
...every year and have for about 50 years. We cross into Canada at Coburn Gore, Maine (Woburn, Quebec) and cross back into the United States through the two Sault Ste Maries (Ontario & Michigan). We have always taken Canadian money with us. Sometimes ours is worth more than theirs. Right now, theirs is worth more than ours. We have no trouble using Canadian money in Canada. Why would you not do that?
Isn't the Miller Hydro Group...
...the same people who owned Edwards Dam in Augusta?
If hoarding all that money...
...works at creating jobs, and those tax breaks have been around since Bush 11, why hasn't it worked?
Thank you.
And good luck.
Hear, Hear!!!
Well written!!!
We OWN him!
"It was the fifth blown save of the season for Rivera, who pitched a scoreless inning in each of his first two appearances against Boston this season."
What...
...no police brutality comments?
This was a solution...
...looking for a problem.
Crazy.
Can't even have a day of prayer without politics.
Troopers HAVE to go fast...
...to catch speeders. You can't catch someone going 85 mph when you're doing 65. Da. And your Dunkin' Donuts comment is really, really old and worn out. Try something else to denigrate the police.
Mr. Shaner -
Roundup works better than a blow torch. We live in Winslow but visit western Maine fairly frequently. We always stop at Shaners. Please open again soon. Thanks.

Wait a month.
She'll get a bill.
A gentleman in North Dakota...
...was decapitated by fireworks.
In what context...
...do you believe she was using the phrase?
When you say...
"These new "smart meters" cause fires, ruin appliances, put personal and national security at risk and pose health threats, as recently concluded by the World Health Organization and many scientists."
are you saying CMP is intentionally, with knowledge and forethought, using technology that causes fires, ruins appliances, puts personal and national security at risk and poses health risks?
You DO have indisputable proof, of course. Don't know why CMP would intentionally discard paying customers by killing them. Couldn't find anything about this at the WHO web site and "many scientists" is a little vague to try and do research with.
Could you help me, please?
I understand others have done it...
...but Uncle Paul LePage - the governor of the people - the governor who wants to put the little folks back to work - the governor who wants to create jobs (for pay, we assume). This is WAY below him. Just come to the table, Uncle Paul, and we'll talk.
I'm sure...
...he'll be able to borrow a state car - from his sister.
I hope...
...he takes his family. They deserve a vacation.
Oh boy...
A place where we can go to see blood, guts and carnage, not to mention single digit gas mileage. Great job, legislature.
Additional fees...
...aren't the answer. The answer is to cut back on services, most notably helping to search for lost people. That service has nothing to do with IF&W. Let local government in the area where the person is lost look for these people, and pay for the service.
I just want to understand...
...You didn't want the Sun Journal to report this news?
Selling water...
...is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the human race.
To see your avatar,,,
...what are your instructions for a Mac?
We have to take care of the landfill...
...but the "potential owners" don't have to buy. We're stuck with it. Then again, we're "open for business."
The sign...
...is probably in the same room with the mural. And with what you described about the Democrats, with this bill, the Republicans have caught up and passed them.
You wrote a comment on this letter?
Really?
That's great.
Being precise is what I was looking for, something we were sticklers for when I worked at a newspaper years ago - So, the editor's name and how far SHE has to commute?
Thanks...
...for the explanation and the pass. I appreciate it, although some still might consider your post a technicality. Out of curiosity, who wrote the editorial and how far does he/she have to commute?
Enlighten me
I live in Winslow, have occasion to visit the LA area frequently, just looked at a rather detailed map and am tracing the route in my mind. It all says Center Street runs between Lake Auburn and the Courthouse. Does the courthouse have an "official" address on another street and you're being technical just to be able to say "Ha Ha" to the newspaper?
Just curious...
What are you protecting yourself from, Macho, Macho Man? There is NO violent crime evident in Maine. See the latest figures.
Kudos to Douglas Rooks.
Great article. Great journalism.
You need to provide...
...more tax money to bring the staffing at the prison up to snuff. Depending on how many thousands of dollars you are willing to provide will depend on how many guards the prison will be able to hire. One hundred thousand dollars would probably get you a couple, although you might need to give more than that, depending on the benefits.
Is it possible...
No.
Statistics don't kill people...
...people kill people. But since you brought it up:

I had a friend...
...who umpired baseball and refereed football and basketball for decades. He knew the rule books inside out, backward and forward, and never once officiated a game by the book. He officiated the game by the spirit of the rules.
A former Maine basketball commissioner, Mike DeRenzo, began his career coaching Rockland boys basketball. As Mike tells the story, during a game, his team wasn't doing very well (I could have put five chairs out there and done as well) and decided to take a technical to try and stir things up. He watched the game for five minutes and couldn't find anything wrong. A little later, Mike noticed the trail official, my friend, standing at mid-court. Mike yelled at him, saying the play was down there, not out there. To which my friend replied "Mike, you put something down there for me to look at and I'll go down and look at it." Mike never did get the technical.
Often we forget - it's a game - played by kids.
A couple of things...
I was an Andie in 1952, not a Panda. The present football field was not there in 1947. The football referenced above was turned 90 degrees from the present field. But she was right about one thing - History Night rocked. What a thrill it was for me to talk with Coach Tag, a Livermore Falls graduate, about 15 minutes and I hope a sports museum will come to fruition.
If doing two sports...
...doesn't work out, wouldn't the athlete know that and do something about it? Our kids aren't dumb. Make it their choice. Why ban it?
This is...
...a dumb system.
Who did they play...
Stony Brook or Binghamton?
A legislator said...
..."although right-to-work was worthy of an "honest and fair discussion," " he should have added "again." The bill is not a priority "this session" because some thinking Republicans realized they were beating a dead horse.
How you can relate...
...more dangerous weapons as being safer is beyond me. It equates to more chance for more nuts to open up.
Open the other eye.
"Do we need to encourage doctors, EMT's firemen, police officers, plumbers, electricians,or landscapers to do the same?"
None of these people need a little encouragement - EVER? No one ever likes to hear "Nice job". Are You a computer?
No CCW?
Semantics. Whether anyone has a CCW or not, if they kill people, they're just as dead. Where's the vast difference now? The pilots who came through Portland, then flew into the World Trade Center, did everything legally leading up to their mass murders. And those safeguards you talk about are not as stringent as you would have us believe. You make it sound like it's a perfect system. Far from it. Your arguments are standing in quicksand and everyone knows it.
I would guess
you are one of those responsible for his demise - and proud of it. Read the previous letter. It has an accurate description of your ilk.
Well said.
Hear, hear!
You say...
"Those Maine people who are smart enough to get educated and get decent jobs are able to prepare for their senior years."
I did that with a pension and two IRA's, putting needed money away for my "senior years." Or at least that is what I thought I was doing. Though I "gave till it hurt," it wasn't enough. Now you say I'm one of "Those who are so enthralled with the entitlement mentality have not done anything to prepare for growing old." There are no extenuating circumstances. It was only my stupidity.
Damned if I did. Damned if I didn't. You have a convenient way of making all this my fault.
Well done!
Well thought out and well written. Too bad the governor doesn't read. Oh, sorry. I meant to say too bad the governor doesn't read newspapers.
Considering his track record...
...why are you appalled at anything this loose cannon does?
On the officer exchange -
try to find officers who speak English. Congratulations of Sheriff Pike. Well deserved.
Just what we needed...
...double digit increases for Aroostook and Washington Counties. Nice going.
Excuse me...
...didn't Longfellow do a similar book?
Get ready...
LePage is not only an extreme minority governor, he is unqualified for the office. Give me a minute to get to the door. I want to hear your scream. Thanks.
Yes.
Next question.
What's your point?
I was born in Maine in 1938. There is a section on my birth certificate that asks if I am legitimate or not. Give it up, Mr. Davis. Relax. The time of birthers is over.
Technically, you're wrong
It wasn't the baby boomers or greatest generation - it was, as always, politicians. And if it wasn't for the greatest generation, English would not be your first language.
I don't understand...
Because of what Mr. Lamoine did, makes what Mr. Congdon did all right?
Yes, you would.
"Would I be so brain dead to stand up there in front of an audience and a microphone and say those kinds of things?" he asked.
When you consider the administration you work for, yes you would. In the long run, we the people have to consider the source.
Just the other day...
...I saw a businessman leaving the Labor Department. He was cowering, hunched over, shivering uncontrollably and crying. As he passed me he said "Did you see that mural?"
Sure he's changed.
Show me.
You haven't been listening.
Art work is just the latest this buffoon has done.
Elect a republican
that acts responsibly and he/she will get my full backing. This man has made Maine a national joke.
Tantrums , out of control protest , walking away from their resp
I thought you were talking about LePage.
Right on.
He has no shame.
Maybe...
...they worked on the LePage campaign.
Local kids...
...attend public schools. The letter writer is absolutely correct. There are enough private schools, including religion-based schools which also recruit, for there to be a tournament just for private schools and another tournament for public schools. Easy, eh?
No.
The thought of it being the best time to do it never entered my mind. And if there is hatred, he earned it.
Now we know...
where the term "bully pulpit" came from. But don't worry. He'll change the name to the Department of Business. It's a shame an ineffective legislature can't reign him in.
Perhaps, Kevin
someday you'll join the 21st century. Or did your family own the shirtwaist factory?
Hear, Hear.
Well said.
Maybe...
they got a call from the governor who told them to walk out.
Just another example
of LePage's campaign to wipe out the middle class.
Paranoid
much?
You say...
"His statement is opinion, not fact."
Is there any opinion in your statement?
No.
Tell us about it.
Right wing wacko
by whose definition?
I wonder how...
...they stay in business, having been wrong or misleading from the beginning.
OK. OK.
You've convinced me. Putting trees in front of fast-moving skiers is extremely safe. I assume that's now accurate. I'm sorry being concerned about people's safety is so mean spirited. I won't be concerned about their safety any more. They're all safe gliding at speed through the glades (isn't that a wonderfully soothing term - glades) and no one will get hurt because trees are in the way. My apologies.
So I guess what you're saying...
...as you try and overwhelm me with statistics, is that death was OK and putting more trees in the way for people to hit is extremely safe. OK.
So he was killed on an open run.
Now we put trees in the way and it's safer. OK.
Please, Russell...
Don't bother the governor with details. Just do what he says.
To have what you ask...
...you need a governor for all the people. He needs to satisfy his special interests first. Remember, he has stated he eschews special interests and indeed told the NAACP where to go.
Hear, Hear!!!
i agree completely. I have, for several years, proposed a separate tourney for ALL private schools, including the Christian-based schools, as they all can recruit regionally, state-wide and throughout the country. Public schools have to draw only on local kids. There are enough private schools now to have their own tourney. But no one listens.
Really remarkable
"Common knowledge may suggest fast-moving people and trees don't mix, but the number of accidents and serious injuries coming from these newer and wilder slopes are remarkably low."
Yea. As I recall, only two kids have been killed so far. Remarkable.
So because...
...parents are lax in disciplining their children and allowing them to stay up, it's OK to send them to work and ignore their education? That would certainly give them more money for more technology and maybe even illegal substances.
Women get abortions
without Federal funds all the time. What's the contradiction?
Truth be told...
...I'm not looking to blame anyone for anything. I would just like to have what I believe I've worked for for over 60 years without having my neck stepped on and told what a bad man I am.
Another snarky bumpersticker
Another 12 years and you'll catch me. In all that time I paid into Social Security. My money. Now, people rag on me for wanting some of it back, calling me a freeloader, and if I mention no COLA for two years, I really get jumped on. Even in the three years I was "right sized" and worked three jobs, in my late 50's and early 60's, to try and make ends meet, I didn't take unemployment. That's NOT a criticism. That's what it's there for and if qualified, should be used. That will get me some posts about what a liberal I am and how my time has now come and I should sit back and enjoy it and how my Social Security should be taken away. Teachers pensions should be taken away. Bargaining rights should be taken away. And that money, that rightfully belongs to working stiffs, goes into the pockets of the rich, which, according to my conservative friends, is how it should be. Keep the boot on the neck of the working class. What goes around comes around. Gov. Buffoon will get his.
Anything you say...
...professor. You're so much more intelligent than I and of course, have a lot more money (probably mine) and are much more important than I. Anything and everything you say is right on.
What rock...
...are you living under? The only reason there aren't more unions in the private sector - corporate greed.
Why aren't there more unions...
...in the private sector? Corporate greed.
The only reason...
...there aren't more unions in the private sector:
Corporate GREED.
The only reason...
...there aren't more unions in the private sector:
Corporate GREED.
So, Mr. Finlayson...
...what you're saying is that the 1,500 people who DID vote were duped and had no idea what they were voting for or against...voting automatons, as it were. You don't think much of the people of Bridgton, do you?
Hey Kevin -
not necessarily.
The Sheriff of Nottingham...
...is alive and well, with his boot on the neck of the poor in order to give to the rich.
Do you have any idea...
...what it medically costs to put people back together after an accident when people don't wear their seat belts. And if they don't have insurance. guess who pays for that. Buckle up. Lower hospital rates.
Are you volunteering...
...your time to run down EVERY out-of-stater who comes to Maine to hunt and/or fish? I thought not. Then, to answer your question, Yes.
Question...
"I very much agree with neighbors that the area is not the place for a slaughterhouse."
Then why did the good folks of Auburn zone the area for this kind of business?
I guess I don't understand...
...what President Obama has to do with this. What IS the case in point pointing at in your previous statements?
The problem is...
...the proposals he's made in the first month are so ridiculous, it's scary. I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt when there IS doubt. But all of a sudden making rules easier for business to do business have turned into raping natural resources. That leaves little doubt to give benefit to. And that's just one example.
What is the official...
..language of Mexico? Spanish. If you are arrested in Mexico, will you be supplied with an interpreter? No. If you vote in Mexico, will you be given an English language ballot? No. I could go on but you should be getting the idea. Go to Mexico, speak Spanish. Period.
...full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing." Again.
English translation...
of "took full responsibility for their actions..."
Yea, I did it. Now get off my back and leave me alone.
...Gov. Paul LePage is a little brash,..."
What led you to that conclusion?
And the red tape meetings are all ready paying off. Speaking to a business group he said the 62 changes in environmental laws were not made by his cabinet but the changes were made directly by business people, who, as we all know, are the foremost environmentalists we have. Their side of the story is all that counts and we only need to hear from one side anyway. Cuts red tape, you know.
I guess your sarcasm...
...is just too deep for poor little undereducated, petty, bitter and downright ignorant me. Could you please explain in simple terms what a Patriots, and by extension a Tom Brady, fan has to apologize for. Thank you.
Mr. Stone.
I guess I don't understand what partisan politics has to do with this story. Could you explain, please?
What about downtown Lewiston.
Shouldn't people be able to hunt there as well?
Who is
Barry Obama?
If LL Bean is open...
Marden's is open.
When it snows...
...EVERYONE should call their local Marden's and ask if they're open.
The problem is...
...he DOESN'T have thick skin. He tells the President to go to hell, he tells the NAACP to kiss his butt. I would hardly call that being thick skinned.
I'll bet there are two families...
...out there who would be happy to split that 41 grand.
Earlier in the story...
...he said it wasn't his people who are re-writing the regulations, it's business people. Say goodbye to Vacationland and all the tourists that go with it. Let's see...tourism was our #1 income producer with the most number of jobs and all of that will be gone. What's #2? #3? #4? #5? We'll need to replace those jobs.
Ever heard of...
respect?
Fat salaries???!!!
Not in MY town.
So you're saying...
two wrongs make a right. And if someone posted a website that said negative, and untrue, things about you, you wouldn't want to know who did it. You'd say "Ha, Ha, Ha. Look at that." And move on. Interesting.
Neither...
Ms. Scarcelli nor Mr. Moore need run for anything again.
Gosh...
...he LOOKS innocent.
So far...
we have an embarrassing buffoon for a governor. I'm hoping things will get better.
Actually...
This is the kind of bill Gov. LePage MIGHT be able to understand.
Sort of a businessman????
Apparently you were out of state during the campaign. That was his entire platform.
Then maybe...
we need to eliminate the media completely.
He's just a showboat.
And we have four years of this crap.
How special is LF-Jay?
I was an Andie from the early 40's to the early 50's, playing for Mico Puiia my freshman year, following which we moved (1951). Many, many years later, having spent my entire career in sports, I called Winslow coach Harold "Tank" Violette and asked if he wanted to go to a Livermore Falls-Jay game that night. The next day, his Black Raiders would be playing for yet another state championship and I knew he would be restless and thought this might be a good distraction for him. His reply? An extremely enthusiastic "Really!! I've never seen a Livermore-Jay game." I picked him up, we went to the game and Tank couldn't sop up enough atmosphere. After the game, we got into the car to go home and he said "Woody, that's was great. That was great." And he didn't stop talking about the game and it's atmosphere almost all the way back to Winslow. I think we can agree Harold Violette was one of the state's finest football coaches ever. To this day he considers that night one of his finest experiences in football.
I guess you missed the part...
...that said he was from Massachusetts. Everyday, accepted behaviour there.
Those who saw the videos
say they've seen worse on Saturday Night Live and some of those cartoons that pass these days for adult entertainment. And for that, he loses his job. Yes, he's been "reassigned." Want the naval translation of reassigned? Retired. A good man now a days is hard to find. It just got harder.
Are you saying...
you can worry about just one thing at a time? If that's true, we gotta get rid of the two term limit. Doing one thing at a time, LePage may not live long enough to accomplish his agenda.
I give up...
who's Dan?
After Saturday...
they'll have to start over...temps in the 40's Friday and Saturday.
After Saturday...
they'll have to start over...temps in the 40's Friday and Saturdy.
Will we be sorry to see you go?
No.
You may not have heard...
Jobs are kinda hard to come by these days. So when you have one, you kinda hate to give it up.
I'm really sorry...
you've given up on "this once great country." Where will you be going - Mexico?
$200 fine?
"...one of these individuals, "as we understand it, tried to sell the research on which the distortions were based to another campaign for $30,000.""
It seems to me a $30,000 fine would be more appropriate.
Sounds to me like...
you're defending Mr. Bailey.
Cowards.
"Bailey admitted he was one of the co-authors and largely charged Maine’s media with ignoring the substance of the files."
Why do you suppose that was. Try starting with no attribution. We're supposed to believe the Good Fairy? None of you should ever be allowed to participate in elections ever again. Everyone else in the world has to identify - except you. You have determined you are above the law and only us peons have to abide by the law. The only office you are qualified for is dictator.
Other people...
(at least two) during the campaign have been fined for not properly identifying themselves. I'm curious as to why you want these people to break the law and get away with it.
Ms Metzler...
had the right to assume since she had been invited by the ski area to participate in this activity, the ski area had taken the proper precautions that it was safe. She had the right to assume she would not be invited, by a reputable business, to participate in an unsafe practice.
Your lack of medical knowledge...
is showing.
I guess this means...
you're in favor of spending money to upgrade the jail.
Did Collins miss......
No.
Congratulations, Bob.
Well deserved.
Oh, the POOR rich
We pick on them mercilessly. When they slap us down, like Pirate, we should smile and say "Thank You." We shouldn't begrudge Pirate's gift of a second Mercedes for his wife, parked in his four-bay garage with his BMW and his cool little Spider. Nor should we mind when Pirate checks his Rolex to make sure he gets to the office on time once a week to sign the checks for the little people who work to line his pockets while he pays sub-standard wages with no benefits. We should smile, kiss his diamond rings and say "Thank You oh Worthy Master."
It's OK.
They gave our $250 check to millionaires and billionaires where it was most needed.
Agreed.
We seniors have not received a cost of living raise for three years. That's three years the government has said there has been no increase in the cost of living. And if you believe that... Then, they kill a one-time $250 check intended as a token in lieu of the raises and give it instead to millionaires and billionaires who, I'm sure, can use the money more than we can. And if you believe that... I spent over 50 years paying into the SS account. I'm not asking for special treatment, like the millionaires and billionaires (Lord knows they need the help). I'm just asking for a little of that money back that I paid in. Is it selfish to think it's MY money? I don't think that's asking too much.
Do what you will with SS...
just give me the money back I paid in for over 50 years.
So you would have rather
have the Red Sox NOT make the trades because they're not any better off. Interesting.
I don't think
someone is going to quit their higher paying employment to take "low paying wages" from the casino. And low-paying wages are probably higher than no wages at all. And let's try to remember this is Maine, not New Mexico or Michigan or Connecticut or Massachusetts or Rhode Island. And I see you've predicted broken promises. How are you with New Year's resolutions?
Make sure eggs don't come from Turner
"Relying on a single business to revitalize the area was putting too many eggs in one basket, he said." The "he" is a Mr. Vlaun, who could start another company and have two eggs in the basket. That could inspire someone to put another egg in the basket. It has to start somewhere, Mr. Vlaun. Someone needs to be #1. Now all you have to do is find a #2 and your worries are over.
Nice going.
Do you have a web site where criminals can go to get advice on other matters as well?
You're right, Si...
but I don't think this is the way.
So you wouldn't mind
if several other casinos would be built in the same area, creating another Atlantic City. Is that right?
I wonder when
LePage will formerly announce the appointment of the Here's What I Meant To Say Committee.
Ms. Sherman...
You just don't travel in the right circles.
Way to go, Bob!!!!
Woody.
This safety system is all ready in the air...
in Cirrus planes.
You could have said this...
with a lot fewer words. As it is, they look at the length and skip it.
Actually...
if you voted in an election, you voted for someone to represent you. That's he person who may have helped increase your taxes. I don't know who that is since I don't know who your representatives in Augusta are. You'd have to do that and vote accordingly next time. Then again, if you didn't vote at all...
Frankly...
it doesn't.
A better idea...
More tax breaks for the rich while putting that burden on the low and middle income folks like you and me. From what I've read in this forum, that should take care of it.
If I'm not mistaken...
two of those three Matt Kaubris wins came at the expense of my Lawrence Bulldogs. One was a great game. The other...wasn't.
May we assume
you know the writer personally and you have direct knowledge he is on welfare?
Good.
Things like this concerning our veterans, ALL our veterans, NEED to be done.
The more things change
the more they stay the same.
Let's not compare
LePage to Garcelon. Garcelon was a fine man.
Are you looking
for an excuse to get him out of it?
Is it just me?
Schools are hurting for cash. I understand the premise behind all this consolidation is to save money. I also understand one size does not fit all. Does it make sense to take thousands and thousands of dollars AWAY from a strapped school system, penalizing the kids and their parents, just because some arbitrary deadline isn't met?
My suggestions...
Media would be able to charge five times the going rate for a negative ad.
Media would be able to charge ten times the going rate for an anonymous negative ad.
Make 'em pay
If an entity is going to air a negative, attack, etc. ad, then media should be able to charge five times the going rates. If the ad is anonymous, ten times the going rate.
Most of the liberals I know are rich white men, Hollywood actors
Don't get out much do you Mary Jane.
Most of the liberals I know are rich white men, Hollywood actors
Don't get out much do you Mary Jane.
I liked it.
Really. Nice road. You should see mine.
Marsha, Marsha, Marsha
The answer to all your questions is in your letter - the Lewiston-Auburn area is the SECOND largest city, and to these out-of-state firms, it's not big enough. But cheer up. We live in Winslow and visit the L-A area quite often to shop. And as a matter of fact, our entire family will spend eternity in Auburn, on a hill overlooking a shopping center.
Politicians who created
the no-call list granted an exception - to politicians.
We've just got to teach these animals
not to jump 180 feet into the air into those blades, that's all. And I believe those blades are made from rust-proof material so they won't deteriorate from all the animal blood.
Business isn't coming to Maine
because the deer tagging fee has gone up. OK.
The closing of a Pepsi plant
has turned Maine into a welfare state. Interesting. We should be able to fix that. Just open a new Pepsi plant and welfare goes away.
With your description
the place should be closed altogether. It's not safe for man nor beast.
Ms. De Moras
Just curious where you did your research. We get to Bangor from Winslow quite often and downtown is quite busy. You talk about bingo, basically a church charity, and the state-run lottery. People will always be on welfare. You'll never get rid of that. And I don't believe any entity has ever promised to get rid of welfare entirely. I didn't find a lot of potholes in Bangor, no more than anywhere else. I haven't consulted the hospitals but I believe the budgetary problems they're having now is due to the government not paying its bills. I guess you didn't go into the five story hotel part of the casino with its full cleaning staff, desk personnel, parking garage attendants, etc. Bangor will be building a new auditorium, basically with casino money. That's in addition to the moneys they've spent on upgrading the Bass Park racing facility and donated to much higher harness race purses all over the state, plus the money that helped the city council with the cities, and education, needs. Help me, here, Ms. De Moras. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand.
Negative ads
From what I've read in the state's newspapers, most of us were disgusted by all the negative ads. How about this - allow all media to charge about 5 times the going rate for a negative ad.
Who are they?
The website's anonymous creators are cowards.
Ahhhh...
"get rid of it and let the market decide, people will work, just let them negotiate with the employers for the wages."
I thought slave labor was against the law.
Ok. You're right.
OK. You've all convinced me. Every candidate is a crook and none deseerve a vote. The Republicans have been highjacked by the radical right, the Democrats are spending us to death (although they're not responsible for two unfunded wars). And Independents are, well, independent. So I say fire 'em all and start over.
You got me...
OK. You've all convinced me. Every candidate is a crook and none deserve a vote. Let's kill the mom
and save the fetus.
That vote...
"Fortunately, before taking effect, that law was soundly repealed by Maine voters in a referendum in June 2010."
That "fortunate" vote instantly raised all our taxes. With friends like that we don't need any enemies.
Hey, that's the way...
Have a little trouble staying inside the lines when you color? Or is it just a little problem with law enforcement?
Best in the state
I covered sports all over the state for 40 years. Livermore Falls-Jay is the #1 rivalry in the state. Case in point - the night before a Winslow-Lawrence game, I called Winslow coach Harold "Tank" Violette and asked him if he wanted to go to a Livermore Falls-Jay game being played in Livermore Falls. Winslow-Lawrence was NOT just another football game at the time. Tank sounded really excited when he said he'd love to go. After the game, he couldn't stop thanking me for taking him saying it was one of the most exciting events he'd ever been to. Tank was in his share of rivalry games, Waterville being another, and had been, both as a player and coach, in a lot of thrilling games. Livermore Falls-Jay was right at the top of his list. I played for the Andies my freshman year under Miko Puuia. The marvelous and beloved "Tag" was in his second year of coaching at Jay. Frank Barkley was probably our best player (I may now hear from team mates) and he was a lineman. I didn't play in the Jay game due to injury and the next year, went to school in Fort Kent. There's a picture in the yearbook, with the snow coming down (an 11/11 game) of all the players on the bench. All are wearing hooded (cardboard-like) parkas and no one's face is visible. But I know which one is me. And that was almost 60 years ago.
I'm also one of them and I say
Amen to your letter.
I covered sports for 40 years.
This is why.
Thanks, Coach.
Thanks, Coach.
Actually, there are two ways to vote...
absentee or in person.
Mis-interpretation.
"...LePage's flair for the flamboyant."
Actually it's not flamboyancy. He's a loose cannon that fires at will, not seeking any particular target, just trying to hit anything he can. Damn the torpedos. Full speed ahead. We'll worry about the consequences later. Sounds like a Democrat to me.
Ahhhh...
You say: "To make this a reality, it will take entrepreneurs and investors with insight, vision and patience, not grand, get-rich-quick schemes and wild speculation touted as fact."
Sounds like the casino to me.
Know what?
I feel better.
Unfortunately...
he's right. I don't remember where I read it. Didn't think I'd have to. For what purpose? But I do remember reading it.
You're absolutely right.
Mistakes should never be pointed out.
OK. You've convinced me.
If all bikes had loud pipes, there would never, ever be another accident.
All kinds of resource material
is available at www.bikemaine.org/ for Walk & Bike to School Day. And it's all free.
Tufts is in Medford
not Boston. Big difference.
I guess I must be thick.
After reading all this, I don't understand what Connecticut requires and charges for a license renewal have to do with the President.
I don't know why...
you went to the meeting. Your mind was closed and all ready made up.
I WONDER IF WE MIGHT STAY ON TRACK.
This is NOT a partisan story. It is a story about men and women who have served our country and need a little help. They are Republicans and Democrats, Christians and Jews, white and black, native Mainers and some from away, coasters and inlanders, folks who have sacrificed so you can spread your partisan vitriol all over hell and creation. Can you leave this ONE story alone, unless you want to thank our veterans for a job well done.
Highly unusual
to have the only games played in inclement weather in the Portland area. Normally, Portland-area team don't play if it's cloudy and any game further away than Deering Oaks is an overnight. Postpone for rain? Ask Kevin Cooper's Dad, Pete, what he thinks about postponing Friday night games because of rain .
Our Senators...
did what was right for MAINE. If Republicans had to vote for everything Republican and Democrats had to vote for everything Democratic, we could save a LOT of money. We wouldn't have to send anyone to DC. No staff to pay, no travel expenses, etc. Republicans and Democrats would submit bills by E-mail from home. If there were more Republicans than Democrats, they win. If there are more Democrats than Republicans, they win. All neat and tidy. No pain, no strain. United we stand. Divided we fall, right Al?
It's simple
Let's send our money to Louisiana, West Virginia, North Dakota, Alabama, South Dakota, Kentucky, Virginia, Montana and Hawaii.
It's my guess
Casey Ftorek is the son of Robbie who played for, and coached, the Boston Bruins, among other teams.
xyz
Spoken like a true pothead.
I live in Winslow.
Hathaway Shirts in Waterville was the last, US shirtmaker and like every other shirtmaker, ran into financial trouble. The company was put up for sale with the stipulation the factory in Waterville be kept open. A large New York conglomerate agreed and Hathaway was sold. A few months later, the factory was closed and the brand taken overseas. All they wanted was the Hathaway name. Sue? You got the money? Now LL Bean has a store in China and we're getting SOME of our money back. But don't just jump on people about China. Sometimes, there's no choice. And maybe, Mr. Cutler got some of our money back.
Mr. Miller...
This is not a partisan subject. Democrats, Republican, Independents, Greenies, Communists, Socialists and the unenrolled all get sick. I was with you all the way, until your next-to-last paragraph, where you turned your seemingly well thought out letter into a partisan rant. I know you'll find this tough to believe, but Republicans have spent money, too.
We all ready know...
...Mr LePage wants to turn down almost $200 million for education. If you REALLY want to see change, put your vote there.
If Paula says it...
...do it.
Surprise,
surprise, surprise.
Of course not...
LePage didn't answer the questionnaire or submit to an interview because every time he opens his mouth, he puts his foot in it. This isn't the first non-partisan group he's given the cold shoulder to.
It's obvious...
...those two young men have something to hide.
Attorney Jonathan Hull...
Trying to make a name for yourself? You should be ashamed. At least answer your phone.
Mr Bauer...
Instead of blaming folks, particularly the elderly, for not spending a lot of money for cable television in tough times, did it ever occur to you that you might be charging too much?
..."who past away..."
C'mon, Bob.
Hey, Big Mac...
Care to tell us how or are you one of those bloggers with tunnel vision.
Excuse me...
but who is Joe?
I think it's wonderful...
A man can run for governor as a resident in one state while his wife is a resident in another. Is this a great country or what!
She's from Florida...
and was only in the state a short time on a mission of mercy. She didn't have time to get off the interstate to inspect our roads for us in a conscientious manner. Give her a break. She's from away.
I assumed you meant the Constitution...
And the system wouldn't let me edit my own post. Tell me about the Constellation.
Can't...
Old Ironsides is the official headquarters of the First Naval District, based in Boston. Can't be moved.
Remember...
the daughter got a break attending college in Florida because of the Florida tax exemption.
I give up...
When did Bill Clinton announce his candidacy for Maine governor?
Walter Preble III, Windham...
is another pot head who wants to smoke without getting caught and paying the price.
I'm happy for Evans-Renaud...
but what was the score of the game?
Malfunction
When I press the edit button to correct the spelling of correct, the computer tells me I'm not authorized to edit my statement. So I guess this is the only way I can correct the word "correct." It should be spelled correct. Sorry.
Say what?
Mr. Fletcher says the editorial was wrong, then says, in every other paragraph, "While the editorial was carrect..."
Hooray for term limits.
Great film
Saw it at the film festival in Waterville last year. Both coaches and some kids from both teams were there and joined in a discussion after the film. A super evening. I wouldn't rate this rivalry with Livermore Falls-Jay but it may be getting there.
Letter writer leaves items conspicuously absent
Just as an example - Obama has far fewer vacations than his recent (20-25 years) predecessors. If he will fudge something as trivial as that, what else is he conveniently not remembering?
Suspended license
Since when does a suspended license result in the person not being able to drive?
From a former Andy
I matriculated in Livermore Falls from the 4th through ninth grades in the mid-40's to the early 50's. I always thought "Andy" was for the Androscoggin Valley. No?
Too quiet
This would have never happened if he had installed louder pipes.
Thanks from the Francos
It's nice you allow the Somalis to speak their own language. May I assume your liberal views also allow the Francos to speak French?
Check the facts...
Maine all ready taxes the water Nestle takes and there are all ready laws on the books to protect the resource. Can we move on?

As a former lifelong Republican...
who turned 72 this year and is now an enrolled Democrat, I have not and will not forgive Bush for demanding to know what books I rent from the library and what phone calls I make. I have been found guilty of being a terrorist by Bush and Cheney and no, as a veteran who served his country in the United States Navy (unlike Bush who NEVER served and in fact did his absolute best to avoid service), I will not, I cannot, forgive.
You were lucky...
I got $300 Canadian last week and paid $303 for it. It's the bank, not the government. I've given up taking the leftover back. I keep it because we go through Canada to Monnesota every summer. When the times comes, I'll just spend it and take whatever consequences I'm given by merchants. Getting the exchange in Canada may be a great idea, though, depending on the Canadian banks exchange rate.
She needed the weapon...
To protect herself from other women drivers. And maybe she was headed to Acadia National Park where we all know, you NEED to carry a weapon for protection from rabid chipmunks.
It wasn't her fault...
judging from what I've read from other motorcyclists, you just needed louder pipes and everything would have been OK.
Motorcycles don't kill riders
Riders kill riders.
Ooooops
Mr. Corwin says: " Nestle’s clever public relations campaign must be countered by an informed and mobilized Maine public to make that happen."
True. I believe Nestle is all ready being taxed and laws in place to protect the resource.
They're all alike...
Ms. French says " I will be a senior at Bates College in the fall and, upon my graduation in May 2011, I hope to pursue graduate school and eventually a career in the field of communications. Does that seem to match the "party girl" image?"
She implies all female Bates College seniors who hope to attend graduate school and find a career in communications are NOT party girls.
If that is, indeed, true, I didn't realize they well all so dull.
I offer my condolences for her loss, a loss no one her age, or for that matter any age, should have to endure. However, after spending 40 years in communications myself (radio. TV, newspapers), I don't believe her generalization is true and she allowed her ire to get the best of her reason. Let's hope her future doesn't hold a reporter's position until she gains a little more maturity.
Please explain...
how you will screen applicants BEFORE they are put on the ballot.
Wrong assumption
You speak as though everyone in your party agrees with you. Let me assure you - that is NOT the case. I know this goes against all your tenants of belief, but there really are TWO sides to every story.
It also means
parents can deny their children medical attention, regardless of the situation. Untenable.
Told ya
The medical marijuana show is just a sham. Christen and his supporters just want to smoke pot.
Prices
Ugly Sticks, by themselves, usually sell for between $35-40. To get a "tackle kit" with it would be a great bargain. I'd buy one but the one I have, about 25-30 years old, is still as good as new. And I don't know about Cabela's ice cream ball, but LL Bean's works just great and comes in two sizes.
Speed a factor?
There are no speed limits in Canada.
Ice fishing crowd
The opening paragraph talks about the "fly fishing crowd" being stirred up. But the "ice fishing crowd" didn't give any examples. Is that just a "gotcha" line or were there really complaints from fly fishermen. Doesn't seem to be, from this story, at least. One paragraph does not an uprising make.
Something to consider...
An example: There are two parking places, one handicapped and the other non-handicapped. A person with a handicap placard takes the non-handicapped parking space because a spouse is going to run in for a quart of milk. Then you, without a handicap placard, come along. There's only one parking place left, but it's for the handicapped.
Mr. Carter said
"... the project would fail to reduce greenhouse gas emissions." Mr. Carter is the Green Party spokesman? I wonder how many Greenies would agree with him?
Alces
Sorry you didn't have time to actually READ the story.

From whom are you protecting your family? Is your neighborhood rife with pistol packing mamas and papas? Do you live next to a shooting range? Just remember, as you go around shooting people in self-defense. You gotta prove it.

A lotta experts on smokin' weed here. Including a Mom of 4.
When you figure your taxes this year...
subtract 25 percent. That's how much you would NOT have paid had Question 1 been defeated. It's as simple as that. As for the "over 100" other taxes, that has NOTHING to do with you. All that matters to you are the taxes you would have paid IF you took advantage of that particular service. If, from that list of over 100 new taxes, you had only had your car serviced, that's the only tax you would have paid in that list of "over 100 new taxes." Maine has the narrowest sales tax in the country. It needs to be expanded. And don't bring up No Sales Tax New Hampshire, which is in the top three in the country in property taxes.
I watch CBS all the time
And they faithfully report the casualties. Including the two most recent from Maine. And since one was the son of a good friend, and since I grieve for each American casualty of this senseless war, I am fully aware of it's coverage. Bickering over who does or doesn't do what accomplishes nothing, except to put the bickerers names in print. They are NOT concerned over the war. They are ONLY concerned with their egos.
Great for Mardens
As Governor, Mr. LePage would be able to enhance his employer, as he did when he allowed 200 jobs to walk out the door at the LL Bean call center in Waterville recently. LLB was having weekend sales that weren't going to Mardens. That stopped when LLB started opening stores in other states. Which meant that LLB was paying rent, electricity, heat ETC. on a large building, half of which was empty. As mayor, did Mr. LePage ask LLB what it doing with half an empty building? Does Mardens pay rent on empty buildings? LLB couldn't get a break on the lease from the owners. And Mr. LePage did nothing. So when the lease was up, LLB didn't renew. I don't think you or I would have renewed, either. 200 people walked out the door at the end of April and the owner has an empty building. I don't think Mickey Marden would have allowed that without a fight. Nice job, mayor. Now you want us to vote for you to do what?
Property tax
I read somewhere where New Hampshire is in the top five in property tax. What they could do is base their icon on the UNH (University of No Hardware) mens ice hockey team.
Coming attraction
And pretty soon, we'll be able to add marijuana to the mix. Oh happy day.
Scary
I don't think I'd like to walk in ANY area where I would come upon a mastiff-pit bull mix named Baby Girl.
Picked on again
Poor motorcyclists. Always picked on. This never would have happened if we had just let them have louder pipes/
Mac antSaior
Huh?
Nice try, Pirate
But us Maine suckers see right through you. Us Maine suckers will be sending more money to Augusta this year, and so will you. Your left wing wacko vote cost us all money we could have had in our pockets. Thanks, idiot. Sock away most of your $100,000 paycheck and leave us poor folks in peace.
winchester
If they didn't put it in the story, you'd complain about it NOT being on the story and accuse the paper of telling half the story.
Pet Peeves
Drivers who don't use turn signals, which is not only unsafe by very rude; and drivers who think the yield sign is on the Interstate, not on the entrance ramp. Guess my little Camry is supposed to force that 18-wheeler on my left into the median so they can get onto the highway without looking or slowing down.
birong001
You have an odd way of honoring Herbie. In fact, I would say you were shi--ing on his grave. You must feel really good about that.
Don't Care? Don't read.
What's your problem?
Mexico's immigration law
Article 123 of Mexico’s General Law of Population says, “A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally.” Other provisions in Mexico’s immigration law state, according to Pat Boone, writing at WorldNetDaily.com, that immigrants must speak Mexico’s language, that foreigners aren’t to be a burden on taxpayers (meaning no health care or government assistance programs), that there will be no bilingual programs in schools or specially printed ballots, that government business will be conducted in Spanish, that Mexican authorities will keep track of every single person in the country, and that foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported or imprisoned.”
Unfortunately...
Mayor LePage stood by and did nothing while 200 jobs walked out the door at the Waterville LL Bean call center. Might his job as head of Marden's have something to do with that? If so, is that the kind of Governor we want? I think not.
No Coast Guard?
That's odd.

GO AWAY!
Ooooppppssss
Me thinks three kids have addled Ms. Hawkes brain. Congratulations, kids, for upholding the tenants this country was built upon.
Hathaway
"Company officials decided they could move production off shore and maybe cut that cost another $10."
Unfortunately, this wasn't done by the REAL Hathaway owners. It was done by a big New York Conglomerate (re: world's richest man who also bought Dexter Shoe) who bought the company, promising to keep the Waterville factory open. Obviously, it didn't keep it's word because all it wanted was the Hathaway name to produce it's own inferior shirt. I have the REAL Hathaway shirts hanging in my closet and they will proudly last me until I die.
Facts, not unsubstantiated accusations, are what's needed, Mr. Carter.
...alleged police brutality...
No comment on it because there wasn't any. The allegations were made by embarrassed idiots.

Idiots
Two women were waiting to be treated and they wouldn't let the ambulance through. It's too bad some of these drunken sots weren't REALLY abused (instead of their imaginary boo boos) and were refused treatment.
Extra-curricular
Sports is one extra-curricular activity that leads to a well-rounded education, along with band, glee club, French Club, etc. They all add to a students ability to become active, complete citizens. So if you're going to discriminate by eliminating just one, I suggest you eliminate them all and only to book work. But I think you'll want to watch the drop-out rate.
No chase here, tron
DURHAM — A local man was arrested following a head-on collision on Route 136 on Tuesday afternoon.
Paul Bucklin, 25, of Newell Brook Road was charged with operating under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.
Were they being chased?
Head on crash story - "Lewiston Police Sgt. Brian O'Malley said Tuesday night that Taylor Bentley, 10, of Auburn, and Joel M. Frenette, 17, of Lewiston, were transported following the 7:50 a.m. crash at the intersection of Lisbon Street and North Lisbon Road."
Let all the criminals go

Then I am definitely for it. And I don't even care what "it" is.

Since they seem to have more money than they know what to do with, I think PETA should come to Maine, purchase the factory, hire back the employees with full benefits and turn a two-three month season into a 12-month season canning those dumb, unfeeling blueberries.
