Vehicles collide on Route 9

DURHAM – Drivers from Paris and Topsham escaped injury Monday night when their vehicles collided on Route 9, Maine State Police Trooper Ricci Cote said.

He identified them as Kelly McCarthy, 46, of Winter Street, Topsham, and Nellie Emery, 26, of Durgin Road in Paris.

Emery was driving west up a hill with a sharp curve near Swamp Road when she lost control of her sedan due to her unfamiliarity with the road, he said. Her car crossed into the path of McCarthy’s oncoming pickup truck, he said.

McCarthy was shaken when her air bag deployed and was evaluated at the scene of Durham Fire and Rescue personnel, but she did not require further medical attention.

Cote estimated damage to McCarthy’s 2004 Ford Ranger at $5,000; and Emery’s 1993 Dodge two-door at $3,500.

There was no charge brought in the 5:25 p.m. crash.
