CHELSEA, Maine (AP) — An Iraq war veteran who helped pull an injured Maine woman from a burning car says he’d done it before.
Thirty-one-year-old William Stover of Pittston earned two purple hearts during service in Iraq in 2004.
Over the weekend, Stover and three police officers pulled 47-year-old Tracee Pushard of Richmond from her burning car moments before it went up in flames.
Pushard’s car had hit the guard rails on Route 9 Saturday night and then hit a utility pole.
Police say Pushard was hospitalized, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Stover tells the Kennebec Journal burning vehicles were a frequent sight in Iraq and he’d dealt with burning people and burning cars before.
