JAY – The Jay Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary will host a luncheon for VFW National Auxiliary President Linda Meader on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Post 3335 on Route 133.

Meader, of Concord, N.H., was elected national president last August during the national convention in Nevada. Meader and her late mentor, Past National President Arlene McDermott, are the only people from New Hampshire named to the office.

In accepting the position, Meader introduced her theme, “In the Spirit of America – We Are the Champions of America’s Cherished Heroes,” which she developed to honor her later father, Edward C. Colby, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

With America’s Cherished Heroes as inspiration, Meader hopes auxiliaries will achieve 100 percent membership for the first time in 14 years and top previous program records.

Meader brings a wealth of experience to her new position, including leading her auxiliary as president at the age of 19.

As district and department president, she was named Outstanding President of the Year. She served as captain of Alliance State Color Guard and three terms each as department secretary and chief of staff.

After the luncheon in Jay, the group will visit the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Bridge Monument in Jay before they travel to the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.
