Victim in fair condition

CARTHAGE – A Carthage man, who was beaten with a baseball bat Tuesday night at his home, was in fair condition Wednesday night in a Portland hospital, Maine State Police said.

Leonard Hutchinson, 45, suffered a head laceration and possible skull fracture in the attack, state police acting Sgt. Aaron Hayden said early Wednesday evening in Skowhegan.

Hayden said police were notified at 8:15 p.m. of a reported assault with several people involved, but, when they arrived, only Hutchinson and his wife were found.

Med-Care Ambulance took Hutchinson to Maine Medical Center’s trauma unit in Portland. A nursing supervisor there late Wednesday night confirmed Hutchinson’s condition.

Hayden said Trooper Matthew Casavant is investigating the attack, and does have suspects.

However, citing the investigation, with which the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office is also involved, Hayden declined to reveal more information.
