Vikes home free after Martin’s 2-run blast


PARIS — Brie Martin belted a two-run home run in the seventh inning to lift Oxford Hills to a 3-1 victory over Mt. Ararat in KVAC softball action Wednesday.

Alex Rowe and Crystal West led the Vikings (10-4) with two hits apiece, while West also picked up the mound win.

Mt. Ararat (8-6) was paced by Jodi Curley with an RBI double in the fourth frame. Miranda Riendeau went the distance for Mt. Ararat and gave up 10 hits in the loss.

Oak Hill 4, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Lauren Hall scattered seven hits and had ample run support as Oak Hill hustled to a 4-0 victory over Leavitt in KVAC softball action Wednesday.

Kortnay Michaud led the Raiders (10-3) with two hits, while she helped her own cause with an RBI single.

Shannon Clark led the Hornets (5-8) with two hits, while Adrie Newton suffered the loss.


Jay 11, Madison 6
JAY — Ashley Quirrion sparked a five-run sixth inning for Jay as the Tigers overpowered Madison 11-6 in MVC softball action Wednesday.

Quirrion belted a bases-loaded triple to ignite that big sixth-inning rally. Ashley Dorrey and Alexi Deering joined Quirrion with two hits in the contest.

Natalie Michaud led Madison with two hits.

Mt. Abram 3, Mountain Valley 0
SALEM — Molly McCafferty gave up just two hits and walked none to lead Mt. Abram to a 3-0 victory over hard-hitting Mountain Valley in a key MVC matchup Wednesday.

Taylor Jordan broke things open for Mt. Abram (6-7) in the sixth inning with a two-run single to left center field.

Mackenzie Paterson led the Falcons (4-7) with two hits, while Lindsay Gallant was tagged with the loss.

Lisbon 13, Hall-Dale 2

FARMINGDALE — Three players had three hits for Lisbon as the Greyhounds raced to a 13-2 victory over Hall-Dale in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds got things started with a five-run first inning. Pitcher Kimber Morse tossed eight strikeouts and allowed just four hits and two walks for Lisbon.

Carolyn Wolfington produced a single and a triple and drove in both of the Bulldogs’ runs.

Dirigo 12, Livermore Falls 6

DIXFIELD — Sophomore third baseman Gretchen Bradbury led the way with three hits and three RBIs as Dirigo doubled up Livermore Falls 12-6 in MVC softball action Wednesday.

The Cougars (7-6) assembled six runs on five hits and three Livermore Falls errors in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior pitcher Sam Greenwood blasted a three-run shot in the second inning, and Marissa Welch collected a solo shot in the top of the third to tie the contest at 6-6 for the Andies (0-13).

Dirigo reacted with three runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, and held the Andies’ offense at bay over the last four frames. Mariah Larsen shared a game-high three hits with Bradbury.

Telstar 15, Carrabec 0

NORTH ANSON — Telstar punched in nine runs in the first inning and winning pitcher Kayla Merrill struck out seven batters and walked one as the Rebels (12-1) clocked Carrabec with a 15-0 victory in a softball game Wednesday.

Kayla Merrill had three hits, including a double, and drove in five runs. Katie Sumner also doubled. Catcher Lyndsay Merrill singled twice and drove in a run.

Carrabec pitcher Courtney Turner also struck out seven batters and teammates Brooklynne Lewis and Ashlee Knight each singled.

Cony 13, Lewiston 4

LEWISTON — Cony scored in all but one inning taking advantage of seven Lewiston errors outscoring the Blue Devils 13-4 in class A softball action.

Sam Howard earned the win on the mound and cracked a double for the Rams (9-3). Jillian Deeves recorded a pair of hits, including a triple. Jessica Fuller also tallied a pair of hits, including a double. Erin Brochu had a pair of singles for Lewiston (3-11).

Erskine 1, EL 0

AUBRUN — Edward Little squandered plenty of scoring opportunities, stranding 11 runners on base and losing to Erskine 1-0 in a KVAC softball match up.

Mikhaela Helm ripped an RBI double in the top half of the first inning, plating catcher Meryl Bond with the game’s lone run. Sonja Morse fired the shutout for the Eagles (8-5), allowing five hits and striking out 11.

The Red Eddies (7-6) threatened to score one last time in the seventh but were unable to score Melissa Paione after her one-out triple.

Georges Valley 9, St. Dom’s 2

THOMASTON — Kennadi Grover had two hits, including a double, to lead Georges Valley to a 9-2 victory over St. Dom’s in softball action Wednesday.

The Saints (8-5) put up runs in the second and third innings, but the Buccaneers (11-0) responded with three runs with two outs in the bottom of the third. Kelsie Thompson and Tamra Wallace singled in runs after the first crossed on a passed ball.

The Saints had only five base runners over the final four frames.

Gray-NG 11, Poland 5

STANDISH — Gray-New Gloucester pounded out 15 hits en route to an 11-5 victory over Poland in Class B softball action at St. Joseph’s College.

Sandy Ricardi rapped four singles while driving in a pair of runs for the Patriots. Alex Thompson, Maggie Chaplin and Lindsay Nunley each had a pair of singles in the victory. Kellie Sanborn also had a double and a single to knock in a pair of runs.

Maggie Chaplin scattered eight hits while striking out two to earn the victory. Kat Seeley paced the Knights with a single and a double.
