Vikes’ Jurczak tosses no-hitter

SOUTH PARIS – Jen Jurczak struck out 12 batters en route to tossing a no-hitter, as Oxford Hills blanked Edward Little 2-0 in a KVAC softball matchup Wednesday.

Emmylou Blake scored the first Viking (13-1) run on a passed ball before Tiera Durgin scored on a double by Mindy Rugg to push the score to 2-0. Tia Pratt and Megan Gauger each had two hits apiece.

Georges Valley 15, Winthrop 2

THOMASTON – Desiree Smith belted out a three-run homer to lead Georges Valley to a 15-2 romp over Winthrop in softball Wednesday afternoon.

Ashley Geel contributed two triples and a single, and added two RBIs to the Buccaneers (7-4) win. Nicole Pouland hit a triple and Sarah Alley smacked two doubles.

Ashley Marcellino hit an RBI double for Winthrop (2-9).

Madison 3, Dirigo 1

MADISON – Jessica Hayden scored on a passed ball to tie the contest before Hannah Seamens scored on a bases-loaded walk to tally the game-winning run and lift Madison to a 3-1 triumph over Dirigo on Wednesday.

The first Bulldogs’ (8-4) run was scored when Amanda Costa walked to first, stole second and third, and then came home on an infield error.

The Cougars (11-3) lone run was tallied by Michelle Holmquist who scored on an Ashley Noyse single.

Brunswick 8, Lewiston 4

BRUNSWICK – Emily Pollock had a big single in the Dragons’ four-run third inning as Brunswick captured an 8-4 victory from Lewiston in KVAC softball action Wednesday.

With the Blue Devils (8-6) trailing 8-1 in the seventh inning, freshman third baseman Stephayne Doucette tried to spark things with a two-run single.

Maria Labbe pitched in with a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Jenn Timmerick started the ball rolling in the second inning for the Dragons (11-3) by pounding out a two-run single.

Brunswick capitalized on eight Lewiston errors, and Jess Timmerick notched her ninth mound win of the season for the Dragons.

Monmouth 3, Mountain Valley 2

RUMFORD – Alyssa Morin scored the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning on an error to lift Monmouth to a 3-2 win over Mountain Valley in a girls’ MVC softball matchup Wednesday.

Morin had two hits for the Mustangs (11-1).

The Falcons (4-8) were led with an RBI double by Sam Blood.

Telstar 13, Jay 1

BETHEL – Jillian Kimball hurled six innings of two-hit softball and received strong support at the plate as Telstar rolled over Jay 13-1 in a late-season MVC matchup.

Veteran catcher Liz Rosenberg led the undefeated Rebels (13-0) with three hits and two RBIs.

Kayla Mills belted out three hits, while Jesse Farrington and Abby Hutchins added two hits each.

Katie Hall handled pitching duties for the Tigers (4-11) and was tagged with the loss. Her style threw Telstar off for the first few innings before its bats got heated up.

York 2, Poland 1

YORK – Maura Roche tripled in the first run on the Wildcats’ only hit of the game as York clipped Poland 2-1 in WMC softball action Wednesday.

The Wildcats (5-8) took advantage of two Poland errors in the fifth inning to take a timely 2-0 advantage.

Courtney Gray tried to light a fire under the Knights (6-6) with a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning, but Poland’s hopes fizzled as time ran out.

Waterville 5, Oak Hill 3

WATERVILLE – Katie Rodrigue hit a single and a double to lead Waterville to a 5-3 win over Oak Hill Wednesday in softball.

Taylor Hart hit an RBI double, while Paige Gardner had two hits for the Waterville (2-9) win.

The Raiders (7-6) were led by Audrey Pelletier with two hits and two RBIs, while Kristen Eaton and Danni Potvin each had two hits apiece.

Livermore Falls 5, Mt. Abram 3

LIVERMORE FALLS – Taryn Flagg smacked a home run in the sixth inning to lift Livermore Falls to a 5-3 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC softball action Wednesday.

Erica Gatz and Cashlin Bronish chipped in for the Andies (10-4) with RBI doubles. Whitney McDaniel struck out six and allowed five hits while earning the mound win.

The Roadrunners (8-5) were paced by Bethany Wheeler with two hits on the day. Logahn Walker handled pitching duties and was tagged with the loss.
