FARMINGTON — Next month, The Mt. Blue Voices a cappella vocal ensemble from Mt. Blue High School will represent the state during Walt Disney World’s Magic Music Days Celebration.
The 16-member group will travel to Florida on April 15-20, to perform a number of concerts and take part in two lengthy workshops.
On Sunday, March 28, The Voices will present a pre-Disney trip concert at 7 p.m. in Nordica Auditorium on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
The Voices, under the direction of Dennis Hayes, have put together a varied repertoire of popular songs representing each of the decades from the 1950s to the present.
Because of the Disney trip, “we have really expanded into styles that we have not tried before. We are confident that The Voices have something for everyone,” said Hayes. “Along with songs that have topped the pop charts, we have this year included a country hit by Shania Twain, some hip-hop dance music by Beyonce and, of course, a couple of Disney classics.”
“Disney promotes their Magic Music Days program as a way for student musicians to perform for an international audience. … People from all over the world are going to have the opportunity to enjoy the music sung by The Mt. Blue Voices,” said Hayes.
This year, Disney Youth Group Programs is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Magic Music Days. Some of the perks to be enjoyed by The Voices and other participants are reduced prices for theme park tickets and resort rooms.
At the March 28 concert, The Voices’ CD “Can You Hear The Voices?” will be available for purchase. Donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go directly toward funding the group’s Disney trip.
