Volunteers sign up to draft wind power ordinance

WELD — Several residents have volunteered to serve on the Wind Power Ordinance Committee. Anyone else wishing to serve should contact Town Clerk Carol Cochran at the town office by April 1.

Voters rejected adopting an ordinance that would have put a six-month moratorium on wind power facilities in the town to allow for the development of a town ordinance to regulate those entities.

Instead, voters decided they would set up a committee to study the issue before making recommendations for a draft Wind Power Ordinance..

The group is commissioned to draft an ordinance that will be presented first at a public hearing and then to the annual town meeting in March 2011, Cochran said.

A brief organizational meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the Multi-purpose room at 23 Mill St. at the town office complex. The purpose of the meeting is to set a schedule for future meetings, elect a chairman and view sample ordinances from other towns.

Those volunteering to serve on the committee so far are Bob Tirrell, Rand Stowell, Chris Smith, Dave Jones, Heidi Marshall, Beth Lundy, Ted Simanek, Rich Doughty, Joan Braun and David Rackliffe.
