Walk-a-thon to benefit historical society

STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will sponsor its third annual walk-a-thon at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, with a rain date of May 15.

Starting line-up will be at the Stratton Elementary School parking lot, going along School Street, turning around at the site of the old dump two miles away and returning to the school parking lot.

It is an activity for all ages from kindergartners through senior citizens. Drinks and snacks will be provided at each mile marker along the way. There will be prizes for people bringing in the most money and small token gift for children participating.

This year the goal is to paint more of the museum.

Participants may start collecting pledges as soon as they receive the pledge sheets, which can be picked up at Pine’s Market, Northland Cash, Fotter’s Market or Arnold Trail Quality Fuel and Sports Center. They need to be turned in at the walk-a-thon.

Upon completion of the walk-a-thon, participants will hand in their lap tags. A volunteer will record each individual mile total on their pledge sheet and return it. Participants may then collect outstanding pledges and return pledge sheets with the money to Mary Henderson, President/Treasurer, 180 Main St., PO Box 15, Stratton, by Sunday, May 16. All contributions are tax-deductible
