Walk-a-thon will benefit historical society

STRATTON — There’s still time to get a pledge sheets for the Dead River Area Historical Society Walk-A-Thon to be held on Saturday, May 1.

The walk will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will begin at the Stratton School parking lot. From there, participants will walk up School Street, pass the first station at Earl Meyers, turn around at the site of the old dump and return to the bank parking lot.

Last year, the society raised enough money to paint the cupola and roof. This year, the north outside wall is exposed to the elements and needs painting. Bare 132-year-old wood is showing on the building.

Donations will also be accepted. All ages are welcome to participate in the walk. Drinks and snacks will be provided at each mile marker along the route. Pledge sheets can be picked up at many local businesses.

Sponsors will make a pledge per mile, which may be collected after the walk. Pledge sheets and money should be returned to Mary Henderson, president/treasurer, 180 Main St., P.O. Box 15, Stratton, ME, by Saturday, May 15. All contributions are tax- deductible.

For questions or concerns, call Mary Henderson 246-2271.
