Walker rallies Rebels

BETHEL – Nate Walker hit a bases-loaded single to score Max Meader with the winning run in in the bottom of the eighth to lift Telstar to 11-10 win over Georges Valley in baseball action on Friday.

The offense came after Rebel center fielder Mike Fleet made a great defensive play in the top of the inning, making a diving catch for the second out and then throwing baserunner Stephen Ranney out at home to end the inning.

Meader had two doubles in the game and picked up the win on the mound with four innings of relief work. Kimball also had two hits for Telstar (8-6). Elisha Sprague and Brandon Caron each had three hits for Georges Valley (1-11-1).

Mt. Ararat 5, Leavitt 2

TURNER CENTER- Jordan Bichrest and Bobby Van Nott each knocked in a run in the first inning, and Mt. Ararat went on to defeat Leavitt 5-2 in KVAC baseball action Friday.

Nick Cloutier, who had three hits, and Bichrest connected for back-to-back doubles off Leavitt starter Scott Redmun in the first. Van Nott followed with an RBI single. The Eagles (10-5) also picked up three unearned runs. Kyle McPherson allowed just five hits to earn the win.

Leavitt (2-13) was paced by Nick Letourneau’s two singles.

Winthrop 6, Lisbon 4

WINTHROP – Travis Frautten scored two runs and knocked in two more as Winthrop edged Lisbon 6-4 in MVC baseball.

Forest Dwyer (5-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Ramblers, yielding six hits. Frautten hit a two RBI single in the third inning, and David Ricker followed one batter later with a two-run triple to stake Winthrop (10-3) out to a 4-0 lead.

Mike Wilkins went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored for the Greyhounds (8-6), and Kyle Neagle had two hits for Lisbon. Wilkins was also the pitcher of record (3-2) for Lisbon.

Jay 8, Madison 3

JAY – Zane Armandi singled in the third inning to drive in the game-tying and eventual game-winning runs as Jay doused Madison 8-3 in MVC baseball action Friday.

The Tigers (11-5) received a fine pitching performance from Steve Nelson, who had a pair of strikeouts and improved his seasonal record to 6-2.

Ezra Gourley had two hits for the Bulldogs (3-11), including a double in the third inning to drive in a pair of runs for a brief 3-1 lead. Jay scored a pair of runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win.

Mountain Valley 12, Boothbay 2

BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Ben French had a pair of hits and three RBIs as Mountain Valley (13-1) downed Boothbay 12-2 in five innings to close out the regular season.

Marcus Palmer improved to 6-0 with a one-hit performance from the bump for the Falcons, finishing his career at Mountain Valley with a record of 21-2. Palmer also had two hits, including a double.

Scott Norwood hit a double for the Seahawks (4-9).

North Yarmouth 4, Fryeburg 0

FRYEBURG – Ian Nichols belted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs to help North Yarmouth capture a 4-0 win over Fryeburg in a Western Maine Conference baseball game Friday.

Nichols smacked a two-run double to left center in the third off starter Vince Osgood (0-1) to stake the Panthers (5-9) to a 3-0 lead.

He added an RBI double in the fifth to complete the scoring. George Birkett went the distance for the win.

Finn Chappell had two hits to pace the Raiders (4-11). Travis Fillebrown hurled four innings of two-hit relief, striking out 10.

Oak Hill 6, Belfast 5

BELFAST – Chris Ellis came on in relief to start the second inning and gave up no runs over the next five, earning the pitching win in Oak Hill’s 6-5 squeaker over Belfast in KVAC baseball.

The Lions chased away Raider starter Justin Plourde with four runs in the first frame, keyed by Zach Carr’s bases-loaded triple. Oak Hill (9-5) chipped away in the fourth and fifth innings, getting four RBIs with two out over the two frames to take the lead.

Eric Daniels blasted a lead-off home run in the top of the seventh inning for the Raiders and also hit a triple in the game. Jake Arthurs had a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh for Belfast.

Lacrosse

Morse 11, EL 4

BATH – Mike Percy swept up five goals to lead Morse to an 11-4 victory over Edward Little in KVAC boys’ lacrosse action Friday.

Ryan Goodfellow also had an outstanding day for the Shipbuilders (3-8), sinking four goals for Morse.

The Red Eddies (2-10) were overwhelmed in the first half as Morse found and exploited a weak spot in Edward Little defenses.

The Shipbuilders took a 7-1 lead at halftime.

Edward Little toughened up their defenses in the second half and played a bit more even. Seniors Josh Mockler and Nick Merrill recorded a goal apiece for the Red Eddies.
