Water-poster winners named

FARMINGTON – Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual poster contest highlighted the theme, “Water Wise,” to demonstrate the need for people to be wise about the way that they use the resource of water.

The contest provided kindergarten through grade 12 students an opportunity to share their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues.

All winning posters will be sent to the state level for judging. First-place state winners will proceed to the national level.

There were 71 posters submitted for the contest. First-place winners will receive a $50 savings bond. Second- and third-place winners will receive a certificate for a shrub or tree.

Winners included:

Division 1, grades kindergarten and one: first, Jared Winslow, New Sharon, first grade, home-schooled; second, Julia Ramsey, New Sharon, first grade, home-schooled; third, Devon Everett, Farmington, first grade, W. G. Mallett School.

Division 2, grades two and three: first, Kyle Tracy, Farmington, third grade, Mallett School; second, Autumn Clair, Chesterville, second grade, Cushing School; third, Nathaniel Everett, Farmington, second grade, Mallett School.

Division 3, grades four through six: first, Dustin Thompson, Farmington, sixth grade, Cascade Brook School; second, Ashley Hardy, Farmington, sixth grade, Cascade Brook School; third, Branden Thompson, Farmington, fifth grade, Cascade Brook School.

Division 4, grades seven through nine: first, Joshua Walker, East Dixfield, eighth grade, Mt. Blue Middle School; second, Jodi Harnden, Wilton, eighth grade, Mt. Blue Middle School; third, Kirstin Blood, East Dixfield, eighth grade, school unavailable.

Division 5, grades 10 through 12: first, Morgan Turner, Jay, 10th grade, Jay High School; second, Mickinley Adams, Chesterville, 11th grade, Mt. Blue High School; Chloressa Blood, East Dixfield, 10th grade, school unavailable.
