Well Done: Nicklaus Ryan Laverty

Nicklaus Ryan Laverty of Lewiston was awarded a Fellowship by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi on April 17. Laverty is a senior at the University of Maine. The fellowship will enable him to pursue a PhD in political science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is the son of Scott and Linda Laverty.

The honor counts Laverty among 100 students nationwide to receive the fellowship and award of excellence. He is one of five students to receive the Walt and Adelheid Hohenstein Fellowship, named in honor of former Phi Kappa Phi National President Dr. Walter Hohenstein and his wife “Heide.”

The selection process is based on the applicants’ undergraduate academic performance; leadership and service on the campus and in the community; evidence of graduate potential; personal statement of educational perspective, purpose and objectives; and the evaluation reports from three individuals who are in a position to attest to the student’s performance, citizenship and character.
