WOODSTOCK – Wendell O. Twitchell, 86, of Woodstock, died Sunday, May 7, at home.

He was born in Mexico on Sept. 2, 1919, the son of Oscar Elijah and Flossie (Beedy) Twitchell, and was educated in Turner and Woodstock schools.

He worked as a dairy farmer for more than 30 years before going into building construction, which he did for more than 20 years, retiring in 1989 to travel and slow down.

He loved hunting and was an avid gardener. He was a former chairman of the Woodstock Conservation Committee and a member of the Woodstock Planning Board, as well as being involved in many other civic activities.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eva (Colburn) Twitchell of Woodstock; two sons, Jeffrey Twitchell of Manchester and Milford Twitchell of Georgia; one daughter, Carol Haskell and her husband, Edmund, of Woodstock; two brothers, Abbott Twitchell of Portland and Roger Twitchell of Locke Mills; one sister, Mona Twitchell of Roanoke Park, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Ronald and LaForest; and three sisters, Rachael Twitchell, Cleo Billings and Faye MacDonald.
