West Paris budget meeting Thursday

WEST PARIS – Selectmen and the Budget Committee will hold an emergency meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to finalize a spending plan for 2007.

The two panels are considering having one capital reserve equipment account instead of separate ones for each department. Town Manager Donald Woodbury was authorized to get an opinion from the Maine Municipal Association on whether that is legal.

The issue will be discussed Thursday.

Also on the agenda is a request for $1,500 from a community group that sponsors an after-school and summer activities program at Agnes Gray School. In 1995, voters decided not to accept any new social service requests, but selectmen and the Budget Committee support this one because it is for West Paris children. They will consider if it can be submitted to voters.

The panels met with representatives from 10 social service organizations and town departments last Thursday to hear requests for money in 2007.

The annual town meeting is at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Agnes Gray School on Main Street.
