AUBURN – The Auburn White Sox blanked the Rumford Cardinals 8-0 Sunday at Auburn Suburban Little League in a Central Maine Senior Baseball League contest.
Sean Cheetham hurled the first 6 inning, allowing only a single in the fifth. Marc Palmer went the distance for the Cards.
Josh Bernier was the big stick, clubbing a pair of 2-run singles. Dan Coleman drove in 2 runs, one with a sacrifice fly and the other with a double. Cheetham and Jamie Lobb also had RBI hits. Repeat hitters were Steve Labossiere, Mike Hlister, Jay Russell, Lobb and Bernier.
The White Sox (6-1) won by forfeit last week. They travel to Winthrop next Sunday to take on the Red Sox.
Wave Washes Red Sox
In another league contest, the Central Maine Green Wave edged the Augusta Red Sox 3-2. Aaron McAloom scored the winning run on a balk in the last of the 13th.
The Sox took an early 2-0 lead but the Wave came back with a a pair of runs in the third on hits by Matt Austin and Rick Doble.
The Sox defense was tough in the late innings, throwing out 3 potential game-winners at the plate.
Torey Carr for the Sox and Kevin Main for the Wave pitched 10 outstanding innings, each allowing 6 hits, with Carr striking ot 12 and Main 10. Doble got the win, hurling the last 3 innings.
Matt Richardson for the Sox, and Austin for the Wave were the only repeat hitters.
The Red Sox, 5-3, will host the Auburn White Sox next Sunday at Winthrop High school, while the Green Wave travel to Readfield to face the Kennebec Indians at Maranacook High School.
The Great Falls Outlaws held on for a 7-5 victory over Goody’s of Pittsfield. Winning pitcher Greg Massey extended his scoreless inning string to 23.1 before surrendering 5 runs in the 8th inning. Dave Coburn and Randy Marcum cracked 2 hits apiece. Craig Farrington drove in 2 runs. For the season, the Outlaws (4-4) are led by Rod Bates, .500; Val Beaudet, .411; Massey, .366; and Coburn, .333. McKenney took the pitching loss.
