Wilfred P. Godin
AUBURN — A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Wilfred P. Godin was celebrated by the Rev. Brendan Harnett on Thursday, at Sacred Heart Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. During the service, Will’s grandson, Joshua Silverman, served as flag bearer and Will’s granddaughter, Jessica Silverman, read words of remembrance written by her mother, Kathy Silverman, in honor of her father. Joshua then spoke of life lessons taught by his grandfather that he will want to follow throughout his life. The Old Testament reading was presented by family friend, Anita Roy Vanoosten, and the New Testament reading was given by family friend, Peter Vanoosten. Peter also recited the prayer of the faithful. Will’s wife and daughter, Mary Godin and Kathy Silverman, then brought the offertory gifts to the altar before communion. After a procession to Mt. Hope Cemetery, Brother Irenee Richard, OP, recited committal prayers followed by the U.S. Army honor detail playing “taps” and presenting our country’s flag to Will’s wife, Mary, for services rendered by her husband to his country during World War II. Pallbearers were Jim, Eric and Kevin Theiss, Jim St. Pierre, Ed Cloutier and Dr. Dan Lalonde. The Godin family committal was followed by the Janet Lalonde family committal who was Mary Godin’s sister, who died this past winter so that both the Godin and Lalonde families could complete committal services together all on the same day which Brother Richard also recited. Then all in attendance were invited to a reception of fellowship at DaVinci’s Restaurant in Lewiston. Arrangements were by Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel and Tribute Center.
