Willard Stone


AUBURN – Willard Stone, 84, a resident of Megquier Hill Road in Poland, died Sunday, July 15, at the Hospice House.

He was born in Poland on June 20, 1926, the son of Ralph and Josie Prescott Stone. He attended Poland schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1941.

He was employed by Bailey Brothers store until he joined the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He married Irene Walsh on Nov. 2, 1947.

He owned and operated his own poultry farm prior to being employed by the Maine Department of Labor/Bureau of Employment Security, from which he retired in 1986.

He served as a selectman for the town of Poland and was town fire warden for many years. He was chairman for the building of the Ricker Memorial Library. For many years he was a 4-H club leader. He was a 61-year member of Tyrian Lodge 73 AF & AM, and St. Andrews RAC 51.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; son, David, and his wife, Vivian; daughter, Susan Monuge, and her husband, Kevin; seven grandchildren, Jason Sayler, Eric Sayler, Aaron Sayler, Ann Stone, Carol Stone, David Stone Jr. and Jillian Pendexter; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Merwyn Gary, Wilfred Gary and George Stone; and a great-granddaughter, Sasha Stone.
