William H. McCann

DOVER, N.H. – William Hubert McCann, a resident of Nottingham, N.H., and formerly a resident of New Gloucester, died on May 1, at the age of 66 at Hyder Hospice House in Dover, N.H.

 Bill was born on May 9, 1943, in Lewiston, to A. Lucille Barwick McCann and C. Leon McCann. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

 After his enlistment, Bill returned to his native state and later launched a successful business partnership with his brother, Richard A. McCann. From 1983 to 2005, they owned and operated McCann Fabrication in New Gloucester. He retired in 2005, and with his wife moved to be closer to their children and grandchildren with whom he loved spending time. Many treasured times were spent boating along the New England coast or fishing and RVing. An avid NASCAR fan, Bill and his son attended races annually. A soft-spoken man with a sharp wit, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. His courage in the face of adversity and illness was unfailing.

 He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lynda B. McCann; his daughter, Heidi McCann Smith, her husband, Andrew, and granddaughter, Emily; his daughter, Elizabeth Anne Taylor, her husband, Clint, grandsons, Colin, Jackson and Logan; his son, Robert A. McCann and his wife, Sarah; his daughter, Terri Ann Drain, her husband, Frank, grandson, Matthew, and granddaughter, Jennifer; his son, William H. McCann Jr.; his mother; and his brother.

Bill was predeceased by his father; and a brother, John Leon McCann.
