William L. Cushman Sr.

MONMOUTH – William Lee Cushman Sr., born Feb. 24, 1934, went peacefully to the Lord April 4, being held up by his loving family.

Bill was a mechanic in the U.S. Army and worked at Bath Iron Works as a shipfitter and inspector for more than 33 years.

He especially enjoyed farming, working in the woods, gardening and giving the produce to family and friends. He was a skilled carpenter, having built his own house and enjoyed making bird houses and furniture for his children.

He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of family, to be kind, love each other and to be hard workers.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and we will never forget his great sense of humor.

Per his wishes, he was privately laid to rest in the Cushman family cemetery on Packard Road in Monmouth.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 47 years, Brenda (Crocker) Cushman; six children, Cindy and her husband, Colly, Deborah and her husband, Curtis, John and his wife, Ann, Karen, William Jr. and his wife, Marcy and Elizabeth and her husband, Matthew; and 15 grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his grandsons, Joshua and Colin Blakeney, who welcomed him into heaven.
